This is the song that hooked me on Deep Purple as a kid. Hard to believe it was 1968. And as an old Dregs fan, I love seeing Steve Morse playing with these guys.
Best Gillan performance after "Concerto for group and orchestra - 1969", one of the first Gillan performance with Deep Purple.. 2005 was a great year for Deep Purple, all members in shape. Live 8's camera and sound team did an amazing job. Smoke On The Water from this same concert is great too. 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
@@gilbertorodriguezmunguia3773 Wouldn't surprise me. He doesn't have Rod Evans' croon and swagger, so can't cut it on the early songs. Unpopular opinion, but this band went to shit when Evans was fired (with the exception of Child in Time). DP Mark I ftw!
I watched as much broadcasts of the event as I could, on TV and the Internet. Caught DP on Finnish TV. Oh boy, I thought, what a joy, especially with IG having long hair again :D ! They were my second best act on the thing - sorry, but #1 went to Pink Floyd. Both bands are my biggest favs ever, it's just that PF were reuniting for this occasion and did so at nighttime, that's what made their performance a bit more special. Still, much love to both bands and every single person who took part in the event, including us at home
there is perfect music, but on the other side you can see they just having fun! This is not just for money. maymy i 2020 the are over 70, but they actually are still young.
I wish MK4 had played this with Tommy Bolin, it's his vibe: funky and struttin' This lineup do it justice though, fine drums from Paicey and great organ from Don Airey. DEEP PURPLE!
Rod Evans se retiró de la música, luego de haber sido parte de un Deep Purple Fake a principios de los 80´s, y de ser de mandado por la propia banda, por lo que leí luego se dedicó a terapista médico en California.
That's actually my favorite performance of Hush with the last line-up which included Don Airey on organ, replacing Jon Lord. Great Hammond-Leslie sound, absolutely spot on for this song and I really enjoy what energy Don "infuses" here. The band's on fire and Gillan still got some energy left in his pipes - what a difference that made compared to later performances.
@@seamusin1697 Their background in musical eduaction is vastly different which results in different playing techniques and Don being the slighty more refined player. But Jon's strength always was his great and unique feel for melody and improvisation (especially phrasing). If you watch this making-of ua-cam.com/video/SMYnVEEi850/v-deo.html just go to 24:56. This is absolutely touching and I don't expect to hear something like this from most other players including Don.
@@Apollo-bw3hv To each their own. This version doesn't have anything to do with the 1968 studio version for sure but they recorded it again in the studio (Mark II line-up) in the late 80ies and put it on the Nobody's Perfect live album as a bonus track. So they're playing an updated variation of the second version. Ryhthmically, it's definitely brilliant, the organ solo is really nice. What I don't understand is that you don't like the singing. It's actually powerful but I get that sound is a matter of taste. Nevertheless, it's definitely not true that Gillan sounds like shit here. That's a bold statement.
Ugh! I know we all tend to become sentimental about the original recording but, honestly...this VOCAL work is abysmal. What were they thinking? What made the original voice enchanting was, in fact...its simplicity. They had not yet learned how to OVER DO vocals.
Rod thought he could come up with his own Purple line-up in 1980 since the band had broken up in 1976. It was a total disaster and actually really bad. He ended up being sued for a buttload of money and his career was over immediately. Insane! You can read it up if you look for "Bogus Deep Purple".
@@hammondvoodoo9555 Not quite. Rod was approached by a con man who had a history of creating fake bands, and lured into it with money and some false promises. He made a mistake but they should have made him stop instead of ruining him. The rest of the band was outright vindictive. No reason to crucify the man over one lapse in judgment. Rod was the best singer DP ever had and it's sad how he ended up.

This is not Dad rock! This is Deep Purple grandfathers to metal.

Doesnt matter how old these guys get Deep Purple just keeps on kicking ass! Long live Purple!🙌

Listen to Gillan doing the nah nah nah's. So goofy-sounding. If Rod were still around he'd have nailed it.

Saw them live two weeks prior to this, epic concert with April Wine opening for them. Awesome awesome awesome.
