@Walter you don't get how this works, if he keeps playing is because people wanna watch him play and he wants to do it, both parties win. The rest of the band is great, but people go see Ritchie. If you don't like it, don't watch it. It's not like him playing is keeping the young generation from taking the spotlight. There's room for everyone in this era.
I'll take Ritchie Blackmore at 90% over just about any of today's music!!!!!!!! Come on guys! The lead guitarist of Deep Purple!!! Dayum! One of the most Iconic players of all time. Thank You sir! May your music live forever!
And always been like that as far as I remember that guy ! he was always acting like kind of a psycho, enjoying his guitar and no more HAHA I just love him since over 40 years
John Norum idolized Ritchie Blackmore, I started playing guitar after watching Norum in 1986 and I also love Ritchie. Both he and John put most guitar players of today to shame.
This has to be one of the best versions of "Highway Star" that I have ever heard....Ritchie still has it, he is still one of the greatest musicians ever....

Wow. That guy is a great vocalist. Really channels Ian Gillan well but brings his own sound to it. Great range and can hit the notes with ease. Impressed!
Ritchie Blackmore is a fucking living legend, a rock god amongst fallen angels pretending to rock. Let's face it he's in his 70's now but, he's still got it, he may be waning and fraying around the edges just a little now, but he's earn't his stripes. A guitarist in a league all on his own with his own sound, tone, phrasing and a unique sense of melody. There's something magical about Blackmore's hands, he's one of a kind. And he's BRITISH!!!
Deep Purple is big part of the fabric of my life...to me, is good to see Ritchie playing live, it just never gonna be the same...and, knowing that, we can appreciate it as it is....Blackmore so under appreciated to me...for Deep Purple fans, watch Bonamassa studio version of Lazy...is outstanding...and time goes on...
Love this, love it, love it! Amazing sound of the band and the lead vocal, and Blackmore's tone is still epic, mystical and mysterious. He is in my all-time list of rock guitarists. He has a take on tone that is so recognizable like all the greats; Beck, Gary Moore, Page, Clapton, Gilmour, Peter Green, Rory Gallagher and others.
Oh how much do i Love our rock treasures! Sir Ritchie you make me so happy! Thank you sir! We are so blessed with the sounds of your beautiful Guitar! All of my ❤to you mate!
@Walter You'll have to explain that one for those of us who don't know then. I thought he was the guy who invented one of the catchiest and most recognized guitar riffs of all-time, and also widely considered to have created one of the best solos of all-time, all in the same album. lol Don't get me wrong, some people worship the guy when it's not deserved, but he still did some amazing things all throughout the 70's with Deep Purple and Rainbow.
El mejor guitarrista de la historia y la mejor canción de rock de la historia. Deep Purple, Ritchie Blackmore, Made in Japan y Highway Star... medio siglo después sigue siendo insuperable
I am torn by this performance. And after editing my comment twice now, I will just say I was surprised and entertained by this performance. We can leave it at that.
@@ianrwood21 That was part of my original post plus the part where the hired "young" guns are just there and you know they are holding back to let him shine. But still kudos to him for going up at 70 something.
Ritchie one of my biggest influences ❤ u can hear it in my playing. Still the true chemistry will always be with Ian Gillian on vocals. Can't imagine anyone else. Just seen them in Toronto and they opened with highway Star. It was incredible
Ritchie's hair is totally on top of its game here, an ageless bouffant lightly feathered tumbling gracefully onto his shoulders while those tasteful highlights compliment his eye colour and moustache.
gursel ozal lol I know most other Guitarists from his era would gave lost the technical ability to play like this at 70 years of age but Blackmore keeps going strong
+gursel ozal I still play the Highway Star solo every day(Machine Head version) to warm up, and the last part he plays here is a very dumbed-down substitution. The hammer-ons and pull-offs he does through the last part of the solo (that he loosely follows off the record) featured fast alternate picked quad notes on Machine Head. Here he uses legato eighth-note triplets...one less note per lick and a much different feel. Probably nitpicking for most fans, but I was very disappointed to see how much he had let his technique fall by the wayside. In fairness, Blackmore's Knight is a much different gig. But by the same token if I had paid to see him play like that, I wouldn't have been very happy. Not trying to be a know-it-all jerk, but I work my ass off to keep my chops up, while he doesn't...and he is Ritchie Blackmore and I am nobody.
Well i am a Zepp. fan, but i can not be unfair, friend. Richie did that in 1971. and it was a revolution in a guitar solo approach. No one before him did the Bach progression and the baroque arpeggios on strat. That was a neoclassical thing a decade before Friedman, Becker, Malmsteen etc. In a guitar term Richie was important, no doubt. And i saw many players playing that solo, but on the record , he plays constant right hand up and down , staccato, and the left hand do that pull of thing. It is much difficult to play that solo like that, the same number of notes in a right and left hand, i think on triola parts. But i am not interesting in guitar at all. Page was a magician, and Zepp were much bigger band, it is a fact. Purple turned to parody, a cover versions of the previous band, Zepp. went to history as a untouched myth.

That’s a dirty lie!

Tony Banks too
Most of the people watching weren't even born when richie blackmore was in his prime . He has always been the benchmark of guitar greatness.
Blackmore still has the solo down at 71. This guy is a living legend.
Muscle Memory.
HOW many times has he played it over the decades?
He's actually playing the tremolo picked part wrong, he's just doing it as hammers instead of picking all the way through
Ritchie was 71 years old at that concert ....what a giant!!! ... All respect
And?
@Walter you don't get how this works, if he keeps playing is because people wanna watch him play and he wants to do it, both parties win. The rest of the band is great, but people go see Ritchie. OMG, 71 and still rocking !
I mean yeah he’s way past his prime, but hey he’s earned it, he gets to do as he wishes at this point.
