- City crews are continuing a second day of clearing mountains of debris from a Fairfax neighborhood home known as “Trash House” on Thursday. Neighbors said they’ve been complaining about the odorous plastic trash bags piled high in front of the home in the 600 block of North Martel Avenue for months but officials had not taken action.
However, one day after KTLA brought attention to the issue, local Councilwoman Katy Yaroslavsky said her team would work "with urgency" to resolve the issue. Sanitation workers, some wearing hazmat suits, spent all day removing tons of debris from the home. Many objects were found buried under the piles of rubbish including a vehicle - an old Toyota Celica.
KTLA's Kimberly Cheng reports on April 4, 2024.

Now send the same crew to clean the entire area of Los Angeles not just a single house for media attention.
YESSSSS‼️👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Exactly! Because it will look the same in six months
And what gives them the right to go on someone’s property and take their belongings away and trash it
@@fremontuscSad part is they'll also send him the bill for the cleanup ( and the 10 -20 man crew standing there watching the one or 2 doing the cleanup ) and foreclose on the house if they don't pay it.
That sounds like socialism.
this is harsh but I don't care about this guy....he put the whole neighborhood in danger with his garbage and rats.... letting this garbage hoard get that big is shameful....
For real. It’s been going on for years. Third time this was on the news
He's probably living in complete filth inside.....
That's the understatement.
Thank you KTLA for bringing this to light when the mayor and city officials ignored it. Time to start holding people accountable
You need to remove the owner and get him some help, it's going to happen over and over again.
I can’t imagine what the inside of the house looks like. Out of sight, out of mind right?
It's not really anybody's business what the inside of his house looks like it's his house
@@tomtroy3792 I agree but I can still imagine what it looks like.
House probably will be condemned soon
Wow, sister is in her own reality as well.
Totally!
Imagine what it looks like inside. Probably needs to be condemned, sadly. 😢
hey why are those people stealing my stuff ???
Now clean DTLA
Nope, he did NOT "get into recycling" - his sister is living in an alternate reality,
This had to make national news to actually get something done.
Thank you KTLA for blasting this story all over the news, finally shaming the city into action!!
He’s been fined for code violations, then a subsequent lien. Cleanup for noncompliance is billed to the homeowner. It’s a hazard to the neighborhood.
Imagine living next to this man. No one would like it.
7 tons?
Great however!! He has been reported to have been cited over 2 dozen times over the last decade.
Imagine what LA would look like if the mayor took this much action for the rest of the city.
Yes!
How did he get out the house is he alive
I honestly feel sorry for this guy. I have the impression that he is suffering from some sort of personality disorder. And the sad thing is that he can't be forced to either seek, or recieve any type of treatment. And there's probably about a 75 percent chance that he'll do this again.....
His sister told a Fox11 news reporter that he is 70 years old and is "autistic". Also he is known as Raymond.
you think it was messy outside? What about inside the house?
How long have his rats 🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀 had to put up with these appalling conditions? 😧
Oh Karen... Karen ... Karen.. Karen.. what about the homeless? You never delivered on your promise. And the city council has held a strategy meeting for a year since you've been in office. Where are tax dollars going?
I can smell it over here
😂
Imagine a fire where responders had to deal with all those chemicals and trash just to get to the house. It would go up like a refinery.
Can we also get California democratic lawmakers mental health services as well.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
She wants to get reelected
When he said there was nothing wrong with the house, what did you say in response to that?
Hoarder was sending a cry for help through his hoarding.
I hope the rat’s don’t decide to go into the other people’s house’s
Oh, they will! Good luck to the neighbors!
Probably just happen again.
Football cards!!??😂 1:35 might be terry bradshaw rookie card up in there🤔
All those cards ruined....such a waste
The house is worth $1.3 M, where will all the vermin run to? people need to keep their garage doors down and get stronger doggie doors that large rats can't push open....
Wait....is that green grass under them "heaps of garbage"?
Neighbors sure have a lot of patience.
The smell is worse than a hundred homeless encampments in 100 degrees weather.
Should have never been allowed to happen in the first place!
I own a house in a poor part of Albuquerque. If my weeds get over 6 inches the city is all up my a** threatening thousands of dollars and fines.
Why don't they require him to put out his trash every week forh trash pick up? Get a court order!
Folks I hope you learn the lesson, don’t contact/complain to the city…get the NEWS involved and it will get fix/done 🤷🏻♂️
Did the hoa do anything about it ?
I guess words like due process, freedom of speech and freedom of expression don't mean much to the Farifax District!
How could you be so attached with garbage lol
Ban Recycling Redemption.
How does this one elderly man manage to get so much stuff in his yard?!?
They found his sister who owns the house, She gave the house to him, and she said her brother is autistic, He has a compulsion with collecting recyclables from dumpsters all around town, And he's stubborn & refuses help & won't talk to his sister so that's how things got this bad. He does need a social worker & some guidance & life care, And there was video footage of all that getting started today too.
Now...for the rest of the city
Sick man but he won't stop unless they penalize him in a way that hurts enough. Get him help but also hold him responsible.
😂😂😂 sending a message to the elite with the clean up 🐍♟🐍♟🐍♟🐍♟🐍
This is day 2 now
History repeats itself in a year or so.
How does he live around all that mold??
She is correct. It is an illness. He needs help😢
There should be a 3 month routine checkup
I get one weed in my yard and I get a notice. Gotta love California.
This is like an episode of Hoarders but much much worse 😬
Show us the prior report or public report numbers to prove this isnt a lie!
But who is getting billed!!
He is with liens on the house. He's going to eventually be in too much debt and be forced to sell his house. Liens gets paid first then if anything is left that's what he will get. He lives in a house like he's homeless soon enough he will have his homeless dream.
Interesting old architecture. Mid Century Stucco . This will be torn down and rebuilt from scratch ....
City should charge on him for the whole expense.
Lol. nope. LA City Resident tax dollars at work. We should leave that man alone.
What about the homeless encampments?? When are those going to be cleaned up?
Karen bass is a total failure
Wait. Our taxes had to oay for this? 🤔
At least it’s physically visible here to see the use of it as opposed to the black hole the rest of our tax dollars go to.
leans get out onto the house for things like this eventually he will be forced to sell the house to pay for all the leans. Then he will truly be homeless as he already lives that way with a home might as well make it permanent.
My isp upgraded my plan from 6 mbps to 100 mbps for no reason
Those bastards
Poor guy with autism with no help
As someone who is autistic I have no comment since April autism acceptance month
pretty decent football cards
Sorry I watch the GIV
A guy with a million dollar home living like a homeless person collecting useless s***.
NOW THEY WANT TO STEAL HIS HOME FROM HIM
He didn’t buy the house….the sister owns it…
City crews remove mountains of debris from Los Angeles Skid Row.
Dude bass take this freaking news to skidrow and all the homeless veterans instead of concentrating on this Fairfax bum, I voted for Caruso!
EEUU cada día más aparece a México
Are we paying labor for him hmm 🤔
Well it about time ?😂😂😂
Skid row is next
I doubt it
🙏🏾🙏🏾 1:54
I had the same prob: only I wasn't a hoarder. My trash bill went up and I couldn't pay , so I stuffed every room in the house with bags of trash then stuffed my Willys, Jeep Wagoner full of trash bags then locked the door, threw away the key and walked off, I have learned from the error of my ways since then.
Might wanna do some digging might find some bodies 😂💯
I had a similar problem with a neighbour...unregistered cars sitting for years in the front driveway, piles of garbage piled around the front door, the back yard filled with junk, broken power tools, an old rowboat, etc. It took several calls to the City before they'd take action. They did explain that there is a procedure they have to follow including confirmation from the city solicitor and repeated requests that the property owner clean it up. Finally they took action. No idea how bad the inside of the residence is but it has to be as bad or worse than the yard. The garage is falling apart and is packed solid with old family furniture etc. The real breakdown occurs within the city bureaucracy which has a set of procedures they have to follow before they can "strong-arm" the property owner into accepting the right of the city to clean up the mess and have the homeowner pay for the work. Unfortunately, all too often, the file gets put on the bottom of the "I don't want to deal with this today" pile on the desks of those in the paper path. And, of course, there is the issue of the mental health of the property owner and that's a whole 'nuther ball o wax.
Finally 🙈🙈🙈
There is nothing of value it is all trash.
1:27 Bass Bruh, you is useless Breh
So called "Americans" when infringing on other peoples personal property and liberty
🤣🤣
Of course, at tax payers money
Typical liberals.
I hope the home owner sues the City. It's HIS PROPERTY!
No right to bring machine in on his rightful property. Government give man huge bill on this he did ask for.
So called crack house
Democrat Utopia
I worked for a major city before and you could tell when it was election year. Mayor, city council members even the governor would come out of their hole and look important and get things done. Hut 2,3,4, hut, 2,3,4,. But the day after the election they're back in their hole passing the buck. I used to tell the customers, it's election year call the mayor directly. 😅😅
