WHY did it take the media getting involved for something to be done? And what will be done to keep the property clean???
Maybe you can help keep it clean 🤫🤐!!!! How about telling Mayor Bass and her team that they did and continues to do an awesome and amazing job👍🏽👀👏🏽🤔!!! It is easy to be a backseat drivers!!!
@@velmawinbush8383
Maybe the mayor can spend her free time keeping it clean.
She's got plenty of that.
@@velmawinbush8383There are houses like that in communities all over California, where neighbors complain and nothing is done. The media report might be the only reason Karen Bass got involved. 🙄
The same thing happened with a property in Granada Hills s last year. Nothing got done till the media broadcast it.
How else will big bum business continue to steal $$$ from our taxes if they actually do the work?
alot of people dream of owning a home.....and this guy is destroying his .
Private property is the Pinnacle of capitalism but only 36% home ownership in this country and 60% in China

His sister even bought it for him (he is autistic) and now they are estranged because he blames the trash on her.....

That's because she's been dumping her trash there for years to save dump fees.
@@kevintewey1157maybe you should move to China.
Condemn that poor house...move him to mental health facility 😊... obviously can't care of himself and is a public hazard !!
Absolutely!
Wouldn't his family have to have him declared mentally incompetent by a judge? Then he could be involuntarily committed. Also who would pay for his care if he has no money or insurance? He wouldn't qualify for Medicaid with that property/ hoarder house as an asset. This is not going to be solved easily. That is why the hoarding got so bad.
They will. There’s a big price for all services and a big lean coming
Such compassion in this world. Heartwarming.
@@traceytrotter9934 he’s going to lose that house by lien
The rats will go to the neighbors houses now. Only thing keeping them from scattering was the trash.

That happened to me. Drug house next door turned their living room into a garbage dump for 6 months. They had stopped paying for garbage service
@@sandyp6523 aaahhhh thats nasty. 🤢
@@rustybumperclassics6342 And I live in a nice, quiet neighborhood. Fortunately, the city booted them out after 6 years of complaints. House was flipped for a huge profit
Its called Code Enforcement. No excuse that the City of Los Angeles hasnt done anything
It's called plutocracy it's a big club and you aren't in it😂
Look at who the Mayor is!
Folks he has a serious mental disorder..and it's really sad
My city wanted my old pool gone so i wanted it gone too!@kevintewey1157
We have Code Enforcement in my community and it is useless for a situation like that. The citations were useless. The media coverage and need to cover the shame is what got that situation resolved. What might happen if the homeowner replaces lost garbage? "Delicate balance between private property and public health," my eye. 🙄
Wow. Those are some patient neighbors. I think most people would not tolerate living next to that for years with no action for the city. Neighbors definitely could went to court for an abatement order
The neighbors have no choice but to be patient, wtf tbey gonna do? 😊
This is LA, his neighbors are all trash too, just not in bags
It was reported that this guy collects trash from neighboring areas and dumps it on the property, so this will be a continual issue unless he is removed.
That's a lie and said how far people go
Stay in your word
@@myiaAllazar What you wrote makes zero sense. You should have stayed in school.
@@myiaAllazarhow is it a lie? Wheres the evidence? I m more likely to believe him based on the 7 to s of trash removed so far and giant rats seen in his house. Makes sense he's been collecting garbage some where, how else did it end up in h is s front yard? It didn't fall out of the sky, is there a reason why your an apologist?
I believe that, his trash certainly didn't fall out of the sky.
The fact that it was even allowed to get this far is utterly ridiculous. As I've stated on other reports councilwoman Yaroslavsky stated that she was told about this condition back in December, yet obviously she did nothing about it. She needs to be removed of her duties immediately.
Elections fix everything😂
Well it is LA
There were violations and a subsequent lien dating back to 2014. Seems most of the trash was kept behind the gates for many years.
Agreed. She is a parasite on the people, drawing a salary for doing NOTHING.
Hate to imagine what the inside of this house looks like!
The outside?
🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢
I hope there are no animals in that house suffering!
Me too!
Same. I worked at an animal shelter in our town for 2 years and went into two separate hoards due to the fact that dogs and cats were involved. We could only take the animals they ALLOWED us to take and the police had to be present.
I begged them to let me take this one tiny little calico kitten. She was pitiful. Runny stool had scalded her little back end, green discharge from her eyes and nose, sneezing and lethargic. She was huddled on the stoop of this disgusting house. I begged them. I even tried to bribe the lady with my jewelry. I knew she was going to die a miserable death if she stayed there. But they refused. I still think about that tiny little kitten.
They might be dead, unfortunately. 💔💔💔💔
A mental health team won't be of much use IF the individual decides that he doesn't want/need their help. Patients rights are a wonderful thing, until they're not.
The fact that some parts of the mountain of trash was 5-6ft tall off the ground...Ain't no way in hell I could live next to that. And tolerate the smell alone.
The yard is clean...but what about the house? A hoarder will always replace what was hauled away if not prevented...
This landfill mountain didn't just suddenly appear last week! I have no doubt that complaints have been submitted for years and years, but until the city got bad media attention, the leaders didn't give a crap. Imagine having to live next to all that! The guy's a hoarder, plain and simple. Interestingly, if you ever watch the show "Hoarders," each episode is premised around being against the clock to clean up the house before the city condemns it. Yet, this mountain of garbage has been OUTSIDE the home for all these years and no one did anything about it.
What a slap in the face to residents with the mayor suddenly declaring it an emergency NOW. That looks like an otherwise nice neighborhood…I can’t even imagine.
If the homeowner lets this much trash accumulate around his home, then there MUST be a mental issue going on. Sister needs to step up and baker act this gentleman. His actions are not only effecting himself, but those around him. He needs to be "rescued" from himself.
I read he’s autistic
Why are there so many mental health crisises going on today that end up in hoarding and filth?
this is not anything new
It has nothing to do with commodity fetishism😂
Why are people so stupid about capitalism
People are broken and hurting. Most of us have smart phones yet we're more disconnected than ever.
@@sarahbaartmansrevenge I owned a couple properties beside a guy that did this almost 20 years ago. The house didn't look bad but the city didn't want to deal with it so they just bulldozed everything and hauled it away. Of course the following year the grass was 3 foot high and the city would only mow it twice. We then mowed it for years so the neighborhood would look better.
Yep, he will just rejunk it up.
This gentleman can't be judged. He is too scared to be ooen for help. Be patient stay respectful of his space
Hoarder was sending a cry for help through his hoarding.
The owner should be billed for this clean up.
To all wondering why it took so long ..we all have our Constitutional rights. So many people suffer from this affliction. How many of you have more stuff at home and in your car then you really use or need? Its easy to judge
Yeah, another example of how "on top of it" the city is after letting the situation fester for years. It's just like the homeless crisis. They did NOTHING for years as the situation became the biggest problem this city has ever seen. The moto for Los Angeles should be "TOO LITTLE TOO LATE". It's ironic to see politicians proudly slapping themselves on the back in front of a news crew when they finally start to do something that they should have done years ago. Inept is the word I would choose to describe the denizens of city hall.
Can you imagine the neighbors pest control bills over the years? Smdh.
Probably ZERO! Pests never went hungry.
I'm wondering how the homeowner didn't lose the house?
What kinda jobs does he/she have???😮
The sister owns it, my assumption is she’s the millionaire and he just wants to leach off her hence that’s why they have a strained relationship. She gave him the house, but he wants more. Idk I’m just assuming in this case.
Because even if you're over 70 years old you should have a job to qualify to be human
Can't believe how stupid people are in the community not understanding mental illness or even caring about it
@@pepposano4200 He obviously had mental issues.
Yup! You are just assuming. You think she is a "millionaire" bc she owns a house in LA!
ANYONE who owns a house jn LA is considered "a millionaire"! But only to those who live in 40+ other states!@@pepposano4200
It’s been reported that he is autistic. It’s just as likely he was provided with the house to keep him isolated. Some families like to call this “independent”.
There was a house, only 4 houses down from my house, that had an extremely over-grown yard. You couldn't see the house, from the side walk, only about 25 feet away. I began addressing it, on my own. I went there every day for a week,....mowing the lawns, pruning the bushes, trimming the trees. Once I had the yard in some basic order,...other neighbors came forward, and volunteered to help me maintain it, on a monthly basis. None of the surrounding home owners knew if the house was occupied. They thought an older woman lived there, but she was seldom seen. I didn't make any effort to find out. The windows were covered in old yellowing newspapers. Raccoons and squirrels regularly entered through the broken windows. It was bringing down the "look" of the whole street, where all the home owners were fairly good about keeping their yards orderly. Many of the houses were rental units, and I made sure they kept those properties, in order, too. I did that by calling them directly and in some cases calling our "code enforcement" division. I had recently purchased my house. I was determined to make my yard beautiful. I planted trees, shrubs, & evergreens. I landscaped the soil and built a retaining wall planter. It eventually looked so lovely, that my neighbors would take photos of themselves, standing before my clusters of colorful, flowering Rhododendrons.
These city officials are a joke.
Wow, I just heard the occupants. Sister bought this home for him to live in for free but he doesn’t want any of her help so this is how he chooses to thank her with trash. She needs to take that house back and get it all cleaned up and get him in a hospital or just toss away the key.
Only in los Angeles would things get this bad before anything is done. Out here In Ventura county, you’ll get a nasty warning from the city if you leave your empty trash cans out front a week, even if it’s on your property!
The double edged sword of freedom. But you're right about Ventura Cnty, I grew up in TO and saw how strict the ordinances were, but also appeciated them.
@@kgirl310 it’s nice. Such a big difference coming over that hill from chatsworth to Simi. Sad how bad things got in parts of LA county.
@skipdog9912 LA is not perfect and has its problems, but its diversity, food, theaters, and museums are everything I want in my community.
@@kgirl310 I agree with that. Plenty of places have that without all the neglect. Lived here my entire life, and it’s only gotten worse. Neighborhoods gotta hit rock bottom before they turn around.
I hope that man continues to receive mental health help and is able to reconcile with his sister, she sounds so concerned for her brother and pained by his anger towards her for just wanting to help
Think what the inside of the home looks like ??????????? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The outside?
ALL THOSE RATS ARE GOING SOMEWHERE......JUST AWFUL
7 Ton of garbage 🗑️ That's nasty as hell 🤦
And they are not done yet!
Probably looks like a giant toilet in side the house. What a job 😮
Imagine what the inside looks like. Can the codes inspector go inside?
They need a judge to give them a search warrant to go inside. They will probably do this, and the guy may be temporarily hospitalized for psychiatric evaluation. Unfortunately, unless he gets proper treatment for hoarding disorder, they can completely clean out the property, and he will just repeat the cycle unless he gets psychiatric help for this disorder. Hoarding disorder is a REAL psychiatric disorder, and it does not do any good to make fun of or shame those who suffer from it.
@@nancyhanson3472 until the reasons for the hoarders behavior is dealt with, the hoarding will continue.
Would you really need to go inside?
@@nancyhanson3472Yes it does 😂
no but Adult Services can!
He's just going to keep doing it...I can only imagine what the inside looks like....
Yes, you are correct. Obsessive compulsive disorder is notoriously hard to treat. I've had a little experience with hoarders as a CPS worker and later as an attorney. But it hit home when my single aunt hit her 80's. She couldn't get into her apartment due to the trash 6 ft high. We went from LA to NY on 4 separate weekends to clean it up. A month later, she filled the bathroom to the point she couldn't get in it. So many stories of how she was mistreated. Kicked off flights, and buses, fired from jobs, her hairdresser threw a glass of water in her face, she got removed from teaching etc. It's mental illness, she died within a year of when she finally reached out for help.
How the hell did it even get that bad? When i have to many chairs on the front porch i get a letter from the Township i live in for clutter..
It's so sad that everyone's against that man no wonder he's like that. Love is what he needs not all this criticism
OMG the giant rats!!! And there must be cockroaches with other bugs all over!!! His house must be packed with trash as well inside
The mess inside his head spills out into his life. Can't even imagine what is going on in the house. No room left so it ends up on the lawn.
The City could have taken care of this much earlier...how did the owner get in and out to get his mail and more importantly, groceries?
My 74-year old brother is a hoarder, his thought process is it's women's work to clean, not his. And yes, it's how he was raised. But he never married...
Betcha the squatters will not squat here
That guy needs professional help, some counseling. He can get mad all he wants till his face turns blue, but whether he likes it or not, he's getting it. He can't live like this. Even I don't live like this. My mother did *not* raise me to be a slob like Oscar Madison from "The Odd Couple" (both the Broadway play and the 1970-75 ABC television sitcom counterpart).
How does he get in and out of the house?
Yes and I wonder if he drives to pick up food and household / bulky items. There doesn’t seem to be a pathway.
Glad to hear mental health counselors are involved The clean up crew will probably have some PTSD issues
Yep... except that some of the mental health counselors are in need of mental health/social worker counseling themselves.
Nice Toyota Celica!!
Hoarding at this level is a mental health issue...I feel sorry for his neighbors having to live near that filth.....
The news should conduct an investigation on why it took so long and the garbage pile up so much before action was taken.
Amazing what a TV news highlight can do - I'm sure the neighbors where getting the run around for years.
I’m glad that the owner will get the help he needs. Very important to understand how he thinks and feels. This is definitely sad to see someone who has this problem and needs help 🥰🥰
They should put a lien on that property. That's costing the city that much money to clean up. Honestly, there is a demeaner that comes out of LA residents that wouldn't be acceptable anywhere else in the country. LA County is the only county in the country that doesn't follow nuisance laws. We are not a third world country!
Oh they are 🎉
How? HOW?!!?
I love to come home to a tidy and serene space after work. Hell, I don't even like to leave any dishes soaking in the sink overnight. I can't even imagine having to live next door to that house...this is my idea of a living hell!
And the thought of all the rats, and the cockroaches, and the flies... * shudder *
This was just for visuals, this will continue. They have this man a clean slate to continue. He needs to get mental help.
That's right...inside the house will be worse, I absolutely shudder. TLC network may be called to film for "Hoarders".
They should also quarantine the owner for a few days, 7 tons of trash...how did he even stay inside???
Where are the rats 🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀 going to live now? 😢😢😢
They will be visiting the neighbors.
Surrounding areas duh 🙄
The mayor's office.
I live nearby and hope that they don't migrate to our block!
At the neighbors homes!
But they can't do the same for the PUBLIC streets & for the homeless?? Just goes to show where their priorities really are. 😡
Those poor neighbors had to put up with that? Thats beyond disgusting. Horrible smells and nasty rats! Those neighbors should have sued the city.
How many city workers does it take to clean up a yard? One to run the Bobcat, two to load the Bobcat, one to check the dumpster and 5 to look at their phones. LOL. Bad supervision. Should've told them, "when the cameras are here, look busy".
Lol, what a Joke.. tax payers have to foot the Damm Bill. That's Bullshit. I live in Oakland and it's the Same Shit. Glad my family is moving to Arizona in the next 1-2 months
Crazies live there also…..albeit safer than Oakland. I visited my sister in phoenix and i thought it was ugly and trashy. Scottsdale is nice but more expensive then anyone could afford
@@hamburglar83 Lol, Good thing we're moving to Gilbert, Arizona.. Phoenix is the same as the bay area..
Dude is a lost cause.
Houses like these exist in communities all over Southern California. Neighbors complain and NOTHING gets done about it, despite the stench, health, and rodent issues.
It took a media news story to get immediate action? There is no "delicate balance" between private property and public health: The place was a trash dump and the city did nothing outside of citations for years. Then one media crew shows up and the fires are lit to get the city moving to correct the homeower and the problem. I wonder how long it will be before the homeowner replaces the trash? What will be done if or when that happens?
If I was a neighbor and those rats infested my property, I would seek to sue the city and name Karen Bass and the city council.😂
I live in a 13x10ft room in a hotel in downtown. I don't have the space to do this.
Do you want to?
for performance art, yes
This person was on the news a few years back due to the same issue and here we are AGAIN!?? come on! Give this person a hefty charge and fine them!
There is no reason why the city did not do anything about it. Negligence of city officials in charge.
Yeah, I'd say LALa land has mega issues going on 24/7
MULTI MILLION DOLLAR HOMES 👀 AIN’T NO WAY THIS WOULD HAVE GONE ON THIS LONG if I had lived in this Neighborhood 🥺🥺
Did they even go inside the house ..that clean up is far from over his sister should have the fire department go there and check for fire hazards..not to mention mold or mildew…
They go inside and its completely clean, organized house imagine.
That would be a far bigger story than a bunch of garbage outside the house!!
😂😂😂
Absolutely Atrocious! Yes what is happening inside that house?
Wow, now we know how to get the city to respond to our complaints.
Call the media, then UA-cam will help and.... voilà!!
This is not his house if he let it be in this condition. Someone who worked and earned the rights to the house wouldn't let it come to this! This is common with renters or squatters 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Even though I'm m a bit of a pack rack myself, I can't wrap my head around having 7 tons of trash. I can't imagine how bad the inside is.
A few have commented that we should be respectful and kind, however, what if he was your neighbor? Compassion doesn’t last very long when you have to live next to foul odors, unsanitary feces and urine from pests (roaches, rats, etc). When it spills out into the open and encroaches upon other people, the neighbors have the right to object. I would.
Amazing really that people who live in this neighborhood never complained. WTF?! Compassion? Doubt that.
Help the old guy into a RECYCLING business so there is a place for this future collections instead of another pile later on.
Shocked this house never made it to Hoarders
There must be a clear path for his car to exit or a walkway for him to walk from the door to the outside of the house to continue to purchase more stuff to create more wastes over this period of time. The crazy thing is, he must have arranged the trash bags in certain ways in order to completely fill out the areas around the house in a way that it is efficiently covering the area and not falling on top of each other. It isn't really as easy as you think to spread the trash evenly across the surface flatly like this unless planned meticulously to start with.
I have a feeling he is building this trash pile on purpose like putting together a jigsaw puzzle one day by one day.
Why did it take so long for the City to respond? It's very fortunate that someone didn't try to destroy the home!
To run the bill up 🎉
Have some compassion for the guy if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all
Like that man, I’ve lived on my own for the past 30 years and can honestly state that in that stated time span I haven’t generated ONE QUARTER!!! of that pile!!! In THIRTY years!!! My goodness gracious almighty!!! 7 FRIGGIN’ TONS by one man!?!?!? 😳
the city needs to step up and not let this get out of hand
Get him some mental health help.
This person needs so much help and probably should not remain in the house. He is a danger to neighbors and himself. Perhaps family needs to step in.
People have been complaining for years. If the city had stepped in a long time ago, it wouldn't have gotten to this point. Crazy.
Send the bill to the man/woman for this cleanup and let’s hope that it stays clean this time around 😮
If the neighbors were not well to do, will this cleaning be done?
Exactly, usually the affluent neighborhoods gets the most attention.
Excellent news reporter but those eyelashes need to go 🤦 not professional looking 😠
OMG.....those are some lashes!! They are distracting.
The sister said she had a strained relationship with her brother, but isn’t that home owned by you there should not be any issue. You should’ve told him to either clean it up or tell him to get out. I hate the same sound harsh but that is where it come to me and you should’ve made a permanent arrangement for your brother because obviously he couldn’t take care of the home that you have apparently gave him so he could have a place to stay, because obviously it’s clean up it’s going to cost you a whole lot more on stuff that you can’t even see that you’re probably going to have to fix if you want to sell this home on the open market or find one of those hard buying builders that you see always put the numbers on the signs around town and on sometimes buildings advertising that they will pay you cash for your home and just take the loss because you know you’re not gonna get market value get that playing out of your brain because whatever market value think that house is worth it’s not good you’re not gonna receive this in this condition and I probably bet you they’re only going to take the trash and that’s it and do a light cleanup that’s all it’s going to be on you. The sister did clean all the rats and rodents in the insects clean up all the dirt make sure find out what’s working in the home and hope and pray that that stove fridge dishwasher is actually working if you still got them and just pray that the electricity doesn’t need to be upgraded along with the plumbing because that’s another couple thousand dollars in the hole you’re going to be what you should’ve got done years prior and actually sold his home to get it out of your name because now you’re liable for whatever happened on this property because they said the sister gave the property to the brother but that long lost her name is somewhere on the paperwork. She still owns it and if she feels so guilty, she could put sell the property and put the whatever she gets for towards renting something for her brother and for him to get somebody to help him do some for somebody to cook and clean for him because obviously the sister was not doing that I mean understand when you have mentally impaired relatives. Do you want the best for them and you want them to help themselves to be independent but there comes a time, when obviously there are signs that they cannot do that to take care of themselves by the obvious trash around the property and probably inside because he seems to that curtains on his windows or sheets more like which is probably coming a whole house full of hoarding that you’re going to have to deal with that should’ve been dealt with years ago prior
Homeowner should be charged for this disposal/work and if not paid, a lien should e placed on property with interest.
What condition is the interior in??? 🤔🤢
That’s his sisters house you can’t just snatch it from here she’s helping her brother out.
Rule of law. That is what is missing in the United States !!!
Gotta keep the neighborhood prices down, dude making a statement by turning all those houses that were once regular homes to a million dollar house
Make this man pay for the cleanup. If he doesn't want to pay then show him the inside of a jail cell; I bet he'll come up with money then. 💚 O+
Wait? Seven tons quality of life City Services disaster! Obviously, there is an unchecked mental health issue here. I hope the person receives some help.
Who’s more upset ?
The homeowner or the Rats ?
Im surprised the neighbours didnt sneakily start a fire so itd have to be removed for fire safety reasons or something considering this has been going on for years
So they are cleaning up all the trash. But what are their plans for the huge rat infestation?! The city should be dealing with that as well!!
Will the Home Owner pay the Tab?
What was the end? I said she’s the home owner sister, so which is it he if he owns the home my bad and saying that she should come in and help him but if she owns the home that’s a whole different situation I guess we all got to figure out who actually owns the home so we can get the help he needs, because obviously he can’t take the care of this home. It is obvious something should’ve been done years prior
Ridiculous
That's one thing, how about the House nearby, that has Homeless tents in the front yard
So obvious its a supet hoarder situation!!!
Owner needs mental help....and probably a new home ro live in to make sure he/she is safe. Shame in the ciry for waiting so long!!!!!
