    Thank you for this video. It's reassuring to see further advocacy of this approach as this is roughly the way I first tried to learn to do this. There are some videos out there that are quite dismissive about this sorts of approach which is a shame. I will be checking out your other videos on how to develop the sound from this foundation.

    I get somewhat close to the end scream volume wise, but the fry sounds too "crispy", like it needs some more air flow or something and I'm not quite sure how to do that while keeping the fry. I've been getting closer everyday and and I think muscle memory is helping progress. If there's anything in particular that can help with the air movement I'd appreciate a response :) Great videos!

    • @sibilaextremevocal
      @sibilaextremevocal  8 місяців тому +2

      Thanks! There's a simple advice but I'm not sure if it will be that easy to apply to your scream. It's simply about letting go a bit of tension in the larynx and vocal folds which will slightly open the airflow, which can make your vocal folds vibrate fast enough to produce a proper fry scream without extra tension.
      Some of my students imagine that there's a pipe with a floodgate in their throat and it opens up just a bit more. Maybe it will help you as well.
      Let me know how it worked!

    The maximum volume I can reach is something like you do here 4:04. That feels easy but I can't find a way to make it louder. Should I just keep practicing or something else is the issue? :) And I know it's very individual, but could you estimate in how long it could become louder with regular practice (in 1 month, 2 months etc ...) Thanks so much, you're one of the best for learning fry scream! 🤘🔥

    • @sibilaextremevocal
      @sibilaextremevocal  9 місяців тому +2

      It's a bit like growing muscles. You can test your limits and check how loud you can get every couple of weeks of practice (in a healthy way, which means that you don't feel any pain, discomfort and your voice feels ok after the practice).
      Here are some exercises that can help you to improve the projection and resonance of your fry scream, which technically can result in a higher level of volume but without any extra pressure or constrictions:

      Hello, thank you!
      I am not sure if I get it right but the breat support is a very important part of this exercise. The closer you get to the fry, the more core muscles will engage. In the mouth you can feel the vibrations, especially in the area of the back of the tongue and soft palate.
      The sound doesn't need to be very strong. It can grow gradually, just like muscles at the gym.

    I started screaming using false chord screams. I really struggle to hit vocal fry in general since learning how to false chord scream, especially when trying to go from a falsetto to vocal fry. Any general advice? I'll practice the granny voice daily now

    • @sibilaextremevocal
      @sibilaextremevocal  7 місяців тому

      Usually when people that can do a decent false chord and they struggle with the fry scream, especially with exercises using the vocal fry, it's because they push too hard and blow too much air through the larynx but I don't know if it relates to your practice because I can't hear your voice :D My email is xvocalcenter@gmail.com
      Exercises with the vocal fry are usually light and compared to the false chord, almost effortless.
      For me the best way to finally nail the fry scream was practicing with the distortion, kargyraa and vocal break. There are materials on that topic on the channel. Check out the playlist "Fry Scream".

    When I try to do the beginning practice exercise at 3:35, I actually LOSE the vocal fry distortion as I try to extend it, and my vocal tone CLEANS up. I actually sound more like Waluigi than a Grandma. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or how to fix it to start to get some of the harsher distortion. I don't know if I'm letting my true vocal chords activate by accident, or if I'm lacking support somehow? When I try to drive into that harsher sound, my voice just cleans up and kicks into clearer pitch and that Waluigi sound, haha.

    Is there a difference in how to apply compression between this technique and a false cord scream? I have no problems getting the "granny-fry" going, but as soon as I try to turn it over to a scream by adding compression, I loose my true cords and it all flips over to a high-ish mid range false cord sound.

    • @sibilaextremevocal
      @sibilaextremevocal  7 місяців тому +1

      Here are materials with more details about the compression used for the fry scream:
      ua-cam.com/video/6eUV205aQic/v-deo.html&pp=ygUSZnJ5IHNjcmVhbSAzIHN0ZXBz
      ua-cam.com/video/DJXWG44yH_k/v-deo.html&pp=ygUQZnJ5IHNjcmVhbSB2b21pdA%3D%3D
      Here's a material about the compression used for getting rid of the breathiness from the false chord:
      ua-cam.com/video/uXLb0M916NY/v-deo.html
      Here's the material about the high pitched false chord:
      ua-cam.com/video/ec5mh1K6UAg/v-deo.html
      Compression for both techniques narrows the glottis but in case of the fry scream, also vocal folds are way more active and connected than in case of the false chord.

    • @sibilaextremevocal
      @sibilaextremevocal  8 місяців тому +2

      3 am might be not the best idea to practice because your body is probably in "rest mode", even if you are "an owl". I experienced it when I was working on night shifts - my voice was much weaker and throat was getting irritated much faster, even after a warm up. I worked that way for a couple of years and my body didn't adapt to it but my maybe that's just my case.
      When it comes to this specific exercise, it shouldn't cause any discomfort because the sounds are pretty gentle, even when you perform a basic fry scream.
      They should feel compressed (narrow) but at the same time rather light and free from too intense tension and effort in the area of voice box, neck and jaw. The effort is more intense in the abdominal area but it also doesn't feel like a 100% intensity (usually it something between 30-70%, depending on the strength etc. of each of the person).

    • @sibilaextremevocal
      @sibilaextremevocal  4 місяці тому

      Usually it's caused by extra tension of the vocal folds. If the same thing happens while screaming, you can lose the distortion and get a clean, tight voice instead of the scream as well.

      @@sibilaextremevocal I'm a bass and I haven't figured out how to make a sound even remotely high pitched without tensing up. It automatically happens the instant I go above a certain point.

    • @sibilaextremevocal
      @sibilaextremevocal  4 місяці тому

      I had the same issue years ago. What helped me the most was fooling around with high pitched noises, for example cartoon-like shouts "woo-hoo, yay" etc., making owl sounds ("hoo-hoo"), making a parody of Axel Rose, making noises like puppies or crying babies. Firstly, I unlocked my falsetto and after that I worked on the head voice.
      I'm not a bass but on a good day I can sing down to C2 without using the vocal fry.
