Very lucky bike! With a bit of attention and love, this baby comes back to be part of the life of a person. 80's were plenty of BMX everywere, and of course bring me back some lovely memories. As always, nive job! Big hug!

I know I can’t be the only one here that recalls the freedom and excitement of riding BMX as a kid. I had GTs, Haros and Mongooses (Mongeese? Haha). They’d all probably be worth some nice money nowadays. Thanks for the video, your restorations are always fun to watch.

My first REAL Bmx back in 1986 was a Chrome GT, can't remember the model, but I do remember that it was featured in a BMX mag that year and told my dad how much I wanted, he got it for me on Christmas, it had plastic 3 blade GT rims! Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Some restorations hit close to home. I still have my chromoly 1986 GT Mach One with upgraded Flight cranks (and Dyno number plate), so I enjoyed watching you return this 1989 to its roots. Nice work. My Mach One was raced pretty hard for four years and has been enjoying its well-earned retirement ever since.

Great to see you tackle a BMX build. I've found the WD-40 & very fine steel wool works great on removing rust from chrome too, just finished up restoring an '88 GT Performer for a high school friend that he can now ride again with his son. Lots of us out there restoring BMX along with mtn and road bikes, great to see this. Keep up the great work!

I've just had a barn find. Gt dyno and a 1978 redline frame, bars and forks.. not sure if I should restore or sell to someone who can do a better job.. from what I can see though the redline frame is quite rare. Any thoughts?

    • @stephenmorrissey1254
      @stephenmorrissey1254 2 роки тому +1

@@simonabraham415 Bikes this old were treated like how any kid treats their toys. How many expensive baseball rookie cards were shredded in the spokes of my bike when I was a kid?
Personally, if you have the interest in restoring it yourself there is a plethora of information on youtube you could access. Slow and steady.
But, if it's just a financial thing then list it on eBay and someone world-wide who appreciates this frame will approach you.

It amazes me how foil cleans chrome. Great job the blue tyres brings back memories of my raliegh mini burner that was all blue with those tyres. Awesome. Gotta get in gear and sort a gt performer 98 that I have to clean up like you I want to keep it's scars and make it ride well.
The vintage cranks are big money.

God I love the look of 80's BMX bikes. One of my childhood friends, back in the early 90s, had this BMX with oval shaped tubing for the frame. I have no idea what it was to this day. It had no decals, and looked like it had been repainted, but it was a really nice looking bike. This video just kinda sparked that memory in my brain...

Great resto as always. Would be nice if you did a video covering all the oils/lubricants you use for each application and why. There are so many different types of lithium, ptfe etc and knowing what you recommend is best for bearings chains and so on would be a interesting video…

I'm loving your videos. Just found you and I'm very excited. I found 2 old 90's style MTB (full suspension) sitting in the trash in my apartment complex. I picked them up and plan on rebuilding completely, and going to do a paint job too. A lot of firsts will be had on this project, but I'm hoping I've learned something from binging your vids.
Keep up the awesome work, you are seriously impressive and love your video style.

That was fun and and an education to watch. I did not miss the BMX era but man the adult riders today that were all in then have some mad bike skills ;) And I love GT’s embossed top tube. I just found a 2000 Saddle Back for $20, a bit rough, but mechanically solid. Replaced all the cables, packed the bearings, and swapped to more ergonomic bars, and it is my new favorite. I thought of your channel during the hours on the stand and the wash trays.

I can’t find another like it so I got it powder coated and put gt performer bars and gt mallet stem remake with grip and 22mm bottom bracket so I could put 3 piece cranks. Only thing I need now is some white mag wheels but not sure where to find any. Love the build man!

I remember a GT BMX I bought at a car boot sale in UK, many years ago, it was in poorly maintained condition, the people I bought it from claimed it was used for racing..
The cranks were held on with pieces of metal in between the square taper and cranks and feel part as I was trying to ride home! I ended stripping it down and kept the frame for some years before selling it on eBay, regretted it soon after! I should have restored it when I had the money!

Hey great video. My first bike was a GT mach one. Loved GT ever since. Looking at this build I realize I have a pair of old CQP cranks (the dogbone alloy ones) that would look great on there. If you're interested let me know. I've also been working on a GT karakoram MTB resto that I'm still in need of parts for. So might be able to work out a deal in trade. At any rate. Channel is awesome totally motivated me to get an old MTB and fix it up even though I grew up riding and still ride BMX.
