Only criticism is that you didn’t use a gold chain. B. A. Baracus pities you.
perfect theme for a klunker. It turned out so good. That Sturmey Archer hub is so rad.
Just to let you know, your channel inspired me to build up a bike for the first time. I got an old walmart bike and made a point to fully tear it down and then build it back up with newer parts and a 1x. I learned sooo much. I'm grateful for your videos and am always excited when you upload a new one. Cheers!
Is the frame holding up? I might consider doing this myself soon if Wal-Mart bikes can handle klunking.
You just keep raising the bar each time....!!! Left me speechless..
What an awesome build, probably my favourite so far. Love 2 speed internal gears, brilliant for the winter here in Sweden. I had a similar hub on an old swedish bike, gave the bike away to an eritrean family that had just moved to Sweden so one of their sons could ride to school. I kind of regretted it a bit as the bike I replaced it with, a 90's mountain bike, had derailleur gears of course and they kept freezing up in the winter. Nothing got at the internal gears. That bike is now a single speed and a lot more fun for it, as it is meant for just round town.
I have the exact same bike and love it. You’ve inspired me to lace up the SRAM 2-speed automatic w/coaster brake (discontinued) I bought about ten years ago. I’ll put that in the original rim. Use is for city/light trail. Installed an Ibera rack on it and made my own panniers from waxed canvas grocery bags and a Vicinta pannier hardware kit. Makes grocery getting very simple and inexpensive. I’m old so I got the Brooks B67 sprung seat a few years ago🙂. Fat Maxxis Hookworm tires and that saddle make it ride smooth and fast around town. Just enough tread for the light trails here in the high desert of Colorado.
Your channel is super! Best part is no talking ‘til the end! Waaay better! And yes, I subscribed👍
Wow. To be jolted out of my meditative bliss that is Old Shovel by that knife scraping…
Yet another wicked build. Bikes are just the best, riding and tinkering, doing everything yourself is the way forward.
Awesome build! I’ve been using bmx bars a lot on my builds too. Not only do they look cool but they give enough extra rise without looking like a beach cruiser.
Dude- that "blueing" of the frame?!?!!? I'd never even thought of that! So rad!!!
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!! I just received my Klunker 2 weeks ago and was looking to put a 2sp hub on it!!!! Current build so far: swapped out tires for Surly Extraterrestrial 2.5", added a Wolf Tooth Components water bottle cage adapter to drop the cage so I can fit my coozy cage, added a Pelago Commuter front rack (small)... Gonna ride it like that for a bit then add the S2C hub!
This has to be the nicest klunker i have ever seen!
Awesome video as always. I loved the music and love how the bike turned out. This is prob one of my favorite color combinations when building a bike. Keep it up man your such an inspiration!
such a beautiful and wonderful art you presenting, i am not a big fan of single speed bicycles but i really enjoy watching this transformation..
keep it up, i love seeing you having your own company because you deserve that my friend
Yeeeees!!! I was waiting for the kunkler coaster brake customization!!!
Love it. You inspired me to ‘blue’ my Honzo. Love the look of it.
Glad to see you back with another project 👍
Love this rebuild! The parts, paint scheme, the ride at the end. I would've kept the bottle opener tho.
I just wanted to let you know I bought one of these bikes because of you and I don’t regret one bit of it. Klunkers are one of the things you just can’t compare anything to the feeling of just throwing the bike around the moment you hit a bump is incomparable.
So rad! The coolest part is the Wheelset! I love kick shift hubs.
What a badass bike! This one is something else.
Love your creativity and videos and thank you for giving old things new life :)
I'm in Alberta and just discovered Jenson USA; I ordered Surly Moloko handlebars for my build.
And regarding your A-Team klunker, shut up and take my money!
I've got to say, that's the quickest rear Derailleur adjustment I've seen you do 🤣, beautiful build can't wait to see more of it 👍
So inspiring and relaxing to watch. Always an amazing job!!
My favorite handle bars, and those 2 speed hubs are amazing!
....and a modern-classic bike was born, really nice!
My favorite build so far!!
Dido. I love this bike and am just waiting for the snow to melt on my local trails to ride it again. So fun.
I got my first bike with the 2 speed kickback hub. It's a Felt Rail 29er. I thought it was so cool before I started riding it regularly. Now it just sits, as I'm trying to sell it.
I got tired of it shifting when I was just coasting, or everytime I got the brakes, I had to shift again. Got really annoying .. I'll take a 3-speed cable shifted Sturmey any day
Love your channel and builds.
Can't wait to see how that bike does on the trails.
I don't think Is like mine
great build, liked the color scheme and the quality parts used.
What a cool build! I agree about the gold chain!
I heard the A-Team theme song in my head all the way thru this build! Nice work!
Thank you for sharing; what an awesome ride, truly one of a kind, beautiful sled!
Damn! That is so sweet. Thanks for sharing this!
Love my State Klunker. I noticed your porcupines have square nubs. I remember them having round nubs, like soccer cleats, in the 90s. I saw an article where Greg "Hairball" Herbold was showing his white porcupines after one downhill run missing nubs because of how soft the white impound was.
Wow!!...,U surprised me on this rebuild/upgrade "klunker"..,(excellent "components" used!!),thanks.😊☕🚴
The color scheme is very beautiful
Beautiful, so beautiful that I wouldn't use this bike just put in my garage like a piece of art 👏👏👏
Because of you I am at my 9th bike, I don't have any space left for any other...but maaaaaaaaaybe I still have enough space for one of this! It's absolutely amazing 🤩🤩
I was getting to wondering what you were up to, and BAM!, we get the A-TEAM. Keep doin' you!
That turned out super sweet!!
what a rad, fun project. Perfect for 98% of local trails most places.
Nice bike, your video inspired me to buying a state Klunker. I’m in the process of upgrading the components on mine. Bike reminds me of my old Klunker in 1978 but is much nicer. 👍
I pity the fool who doesn't love this bike! And what a ride on that trail at the end. Wow.
Wow that’s a work of art!
Such a dope Bike!!
Killer build and paint. I'd personally only change the smallest of details. I love it.
Wow! That rig is stunningly cool. (I'll slink away now and finish my embarrassing Huffy MTB resto-mod.)
Fall colors in Utah are popping right now. Son lives in SLC and sent pics. Here in the Midwest it is raining and still warm and green...but the change is coming fast.
Bang on, brother!
Love your eye for color and contrast. Then finish the story on some single track. I will have to admit I am not nostalgic for my 60’s cruisers though I love the work and care you put in yours. Bikes did not really hook me until I was an adult and rode my first 80’s MTB. Then I was done for.
Now that's a DREAM BUILD 🔥
Wheel and tire combo looks great!
Your bikes are always great. It is a beaut!
I love the brown Brooks to contrast all the red, grey, black and white
What a sick build!
Beautiful work
I need to top my bike off.
Feeling inspired.
What a rad looking bike!
That’s some slick work !
*Looked at a lot of options for getting my **Latest.Bike** . Great find in SAVA. Super light, nice components, really good value as it comes with many options only found in much higher priced bikes.*
Find one of those helmets that have the Mohawk on the top , cool build love the new bars !!
WOW !! Nice build !!!
The paramount of bikecraft😎
Awesome build! I was just wondering, how does that 2 speed hub work?
OMG. Scraping the paint off that frame was the worst thing that's happened to me during this pandemic.... :O Love the content, but that scene gave me feels I didn't know about!
Masterpiece. Greetings from Greece...
Oh dear, just when I thought I don't need another bike. That is a classy build.
Awesome rebuild old shovel
Great build . I love those bars too. widest i ever had was an Azonic double Wall riser that was at least 28 wide. i miss that bar.
Fly build! Love the SA front hub, pure class. Radial lacing is a bold choice on MTB but i guess you are really not going to have issues with a coaster brake bike.
So satisfying!!!
Piece of art.
Nice build
This build is so cool!
Those S2C kick shift hubs make for a clean looking bike. Gotta get me one.
Awesome build
Awesome. I suspect I am not alone in being unfamiliar with that two speed rear hub. How does that work with a coaster brake?
A light kick backwards gives you a shift, a regular backpedal engages the coaster brake. It's been decades since I've seen one. Schwinn used them on middleweights and some Sting-Rays, IIRC.
Such a cool bike.
I have been waiting for this video!
Great build.
You've probably discussed this in a previous video, but why do you avoid chemical strippers when you're prepping a frame for paint? Seems a lot of unnecessary elbow grease to scrape and sand.
I've been wondering the same thing...
Although, I'm pretty sure that even after you paint strip the frame some minor sanding still needs to be done to give the paint something to stick to
Great looking bike.
When are you taking that to Marin County and riding Mt. Tam and the repack trail? That bike is a throw back to the repack relays that started mountain biking. Great looking bike.
Which cranks did you go with? I didn't see those in the parts list.
Amazing build!!
As usual, a masterpiece!
Greetings from Germany !
Really inspired by your videos. Started a build myself, but utilizing a more modern frame because I’m 6’3” and always felt that 26” wheels on a 22” frame look a little small to the modern standards. I would like to do a vintage frame build rigid gravel type build next. What would you suggest as a starting point? An XL vintage mtb or a road bike to get the 700c wheel set? Would a road bike be strong enough for gravel usage? Thanks for all the great content!!
It's been a while :-) Welcome back :-)
I pity the fool! That tries to build as awesome as Oldshovel! So sick!
Can I ask what was the total cost of the bike with the new components? Gorgeous machine.
...looks good. nice work, stay well...
I hear the theam song in my head soon as you said A-TEAM
@@oldshovel Airwolf build would be cool too with black spokes and one whight in each wheel so it look like blads spining lol
Lol I think we grew up with the same awesome tv shows. I loved airwolf and used to practice squinting in the mirror to look like Hawkeye.
Seaside Ca i’ve been looking at this video for a long time and I wanna decide to myself this summer of 2024 to make a conquer so I could ride my youth times. I just want to say that the Seattle classic is here in my area and it starts this month of April 15 through the 21st next year I’m hoping to enter a race at my age group of 65 years younger. I’m very glad to see something like this and I’m thinking about a beach cruiser frame a newer type of frame a heavy duty beach cruiser frame a Schwinn look-alike yeah it just I wanna start this soon.
look awesome congrats and enjoy it a lot
Love it man!
Sweet build. I can't wait to see it in person this weekend. Mine is in pieces in the barn for cosmetic bling, but should be ready in time (nothing like waiting until the last minute). Bold move not adding a front brake for Moab trails. I'm curious to try out the 2-speed kickback hub for mountainbiking.
Mine is purely aesthetic also. Glad you’re going to be there again, there are more giggles to be had!
@@zackloucks6836 I added a front disk brake and just finished rebuilding the rear wheel with a new Shimano coaster hub as the original was fairly shot. Black and gold P.K. Ripper theme for me. See you all there!
Did you, by chance, record the before and after weights?
You should consider bluing all the shiny silver bits - love what you do though!
Looooooovit man. Totally rad!!!
I love it when a build comes together!
Comment of the day
I pity the fool who tries to make this not right!
Well played
@@kcambra Well, Old shovel is the face of bicycle restoration.
