Mount the tire on the mag … fill up.. then let air out so you can reposition the sidewall around the tire that didn’t line up at first try… I also bounce the tire off the ground an sometimes will help the process of pulling into place an eventually you get there pretty quick.

I just put little air in tire and go around with hand and squeeze tire and make sure is balanced right then air the rest up 😁

My roommate just recently saved some bmx bikes from being thrown away by his sister. He has no clue how deep I was into bmx when I was growing up. Immediately got nostalgic when I saw them in the garage🤩 I plan on restoring them and getting them on the road asap. This channel is golden.

Bro i love your energy, humor, hyperness, skills and honesty. Been watching your vintage freestyle bike videos and so many memories came back including brands or bikes and parts i forgot about. Haro, hutch, diamond back, odyssey beakes, ame grips, etc. Owned a blue/white 88 dyno detour and wish i never sold it. Im trying to remember the dude i sold it to decades ago. I think detour was the best looking freestyle bike because of the pretzel bars and drain pipe post. followed by gt performer.

Excellent video - just the facts.
You can try a little dish detergent and water solution applied to the tire bead on the outside. That way the tire will move to it’s happy spot on the rim. Inflate to the rated pressure and it should seat properly and not hang up due to the friction of the tire. It works really well for motorcycle tires too.
I appreciate you doing a video about fixing up old bikes. You are right - lots of bikes just need some TLC and a little attention regularly to be in good shape.

    • @macgruff69
      @macgruff69 5 місяців тому +1

Sure you could do it yourself but there are many people who do not know what needs to be done or how to do it. He should be compensated for his time and his knowledge. He has a shop to run and overhead. If you brought it to a few other places you are probably paying $100 and then parts which may not even be needed.

So cool seeing the old stuff. I think considering the headset was so loose, I'd repack with grease. Unless it was a sealed set (didn't look like it though) Going over board might have been to repack the crank bearings, I probably would have.
I totally agree though, not a single part needed to be replaced. I think some people just want a shiny new-old bike, but there's not need for it unless that's what yo uare truly after (then be prepared for a bill, lol). I really am liking the slightly beat look, but tuned and working like butter.
I always had that problem with the mags and tires. Couldn't stand it as I was a perfectionist when it came to how my bike ran. I ditched them for that and the weight problem.

I have a old school question about Haro's. Ever since I was a young I've heard tails of a tripple stamp haro. People talked about it like it was the best bike. Like some kind unicorn never seen. Fast forward to now a days. Flipping threw offerup I seen a haro with all original parts. Had to get it so I did. Not even remembering about tripple stamp haro. It's a 350 series all sealed bearings. Well when I was looking at the haro stamps and noticed it has 3 stamps. Is this a tripple stamed haro... thanks.. a show about unicorn 🦄 type bikes real or a myths would be cool... any info on tripple stamped haro's would be greatly appreciated....

    Job well done.
You can try taking sharp scissors and chop the sidewalls out of an old tyre. Then you can slip them inside your new tyre to internally line the side walls making them twice the thickness for that added pressure. It's worked for me in the past. Not too sure about mags? But I'd give it a try anyway.
    Good luck

Wanted to ask, what exactly were you cleaning the chain with, also, do you have any idea how those wheels on the wall got so white. Salon 50? You mentioned the tuffs were tough to seat. They are a pain but I guess you add air, straighten, add air straighten to get them right and fill the rest of the way. Thanks for the content.

Nice video but that gentleman that you’re building the GT for needs to buy some skyway brake pads as well. Not sure what’s on there now but they look worn weird. I never had issues as a kid with the tuffs, my dad made me use them because I kept bending Araya wheels, and he didn’t wanna pay to have them trued all the time.😂

As You are airing the tire up on the frame of bike, go with low air pressure and align the tire slowly and more air pressure and keep pulling the low spot of tire out. I've never had that problem before.

I don't know if anyone else had this issue but after getting my wheels super white using salon 40, put in the sun then heating sections with heat gun and applying the salon 40 and achieving dam near brand new results they started to yellow again after 6 months of hanging in ghe man cave 🤷🏽‍♂️

The tire can be repositioned when it has a very small amount of pressure in it. Maybe 5 psi, and the tire can be moved, but will stay where you put it. Experiment with it.

Phu, I watched this video yesterday, but I had to come back to it, because something you said really bothered me. On the subject of people (kids?) not understanding you, it has nothing to do with how you speak. I hope you weren't seriously questioning how well you speak English. There's nothing wrong with how you present your information. I think the people who don't understand probably have a lack of hands-on experience. They need to buy some tools, and take the money you save them and buy some basket case bikes. They can learn a lot by working on really messed up bikes and making them work again.

I agree that the quality of parts isn't exactly what it was, Phu. But the design of modern bmx makes them ride better. Things like integrated headsets, simple stems that are much stronger, 3-piece cranks being commonplace, and better heat treating. But the fit and finish isn't always there.

I think he wants new brake cables to look better. Survivor bikes that are in such good shape do not appeal to me, in my mind this was owned by a rich kid who realy wasn't into bmx and never realy rode the bike. I like a survivor that has mismatched parts, decals from the era and maybe somethibg that places it geographical. Those make me wonder who was this kid? It reminds me of how things were. A bmx bike that had freestyle parts added or just parts that showed the kid spent his life on his bike and constantly wrenched on it. Acs rims, odi bearing caps, old number plates, spokie dokies, things that reflects the things we did to our bikes. If you had a complete stock bike a a kid you weren't that cool imo
