I live in subtropical Eastern Australia, a Dendrobium hotspot. So, naturally, my collection is filled with Australian native Dendrobiums.

Glad to hear that D. harveyanum isn't that easy. Struggeling with mine for some time now. Got it potted in spagnum, where it lost all its leaves and many of its roots. Now repotted it in small sized bark, whre it starts to get 6 new pseudobulbes, but unfortunately half of them got black. Hope to safe the rest. There are growing very slow.
Find your videos very helpful and enjoyable to watch.
    Thanks a lot for sharing!

Hi Danni, I'm east coast of Australia and have several Lodgessii and they have not done well for me in LECA. I have changes them to sphagnum moss are doing a lot better. Just thought I'd let you know.

Please share a video when you repot your Den. loddigessi ♥ I have one as well, it's mounted right now but quickly outgrowing the wood slab. I also did not realize it's a cool-grower, it was labelled as a warm-grower when I bought it. Woops!

Den.Anosmum is an endemic orchid to the Philippines grows more than 1 meter! Very fragrant flowers at night. Light violet colored. With some pink variety and white.

This is my second year with an anosmum and its buds opened this morning. It didn't bloom last year. A very lovely flower. Oh! Have to tell you that I found a Catatante on sale (half price) at one of my favorite nurseries so I bought one. I sure hope it will do fine outdoors in my shade area in s. FL USA. Like the snowflake idea. I use a different colored label for my winter resters. My Latouria types like lots of water during our hot, s.e. FL summers. You should check out the Bruce Gordon Latouria. It has a gorgeous flower.

Loved the video, Danny! I really enjoy growing dendrobiums too. The nobile-types were the ones that got me into the orchid hobby, but I've been trying out other ones too. I've had some ups and downs, but overall it's been really exciting trying out new orchids. I'm growing all of my dendrobiums staked at the moment, but I want to try letting one of my Dendrobium victoria-reginaes grow pendant.

Dani.... semi doesn’t work on most medium to big size dens. You have to add coconut husk pieces. The roots needs a lot of water and they will get in to the husk pieces and grow better.
In Sri Lanka 🇱🇰....They mainly grow very well outside naturally semi shaded places, hanging or on walls ala they have plenty water.

Hi Danny, could you make a video on Den phal flower spikes, new growths and keikis. I have a polar fire with what seemed like a flower spike on an old cane but now looks suspicious, and it is also producing a nubbin on the other side at the top too. Also i have a very young dendrobium stardust firebird which has a small nub growing which is neither at the top or at the base of the plant so i am confused as to whether these are keikis or flower spikes as they don't appear to be new growths/canes! Also Its quite young can it even flower yet? I can't find any videos discussing these issues especially on den phals. Your input would be great!

Hello Dani. Still loving your videos! Since you mentioned that you were interested in collecting more pendulous dendrobiums, I thought you might be interested in one I just ordered - a dendrochilum bicallosum, which from the pics looks like a stunner, creating pendulous salmon colored flowers that twist like a double helix... and supposedly fragrant too. Anyway, I'm looking forward to my package arriving and would get a kick if you happened to acquire one so I can follow along with my experiment.

You should probably consider the mosschatum and fimbriatum too... The moschatum gas lovely pastel blooms with a heavy musk smell..plus bonus it is tooo vigorous in warm climates..
Ans similarly the fimbriatum with two week long lasting fragrant golden blooms on a vigorous plant! I have them growing in clay pots, in cocopeat in full sun on a concrete floor and absolutely no issue! And i get high temps too like upto 33 •C.. But they are here in their natural habitat.

Hi Danny. Think I learned to identify my Berry Oda by its odd shape buds before opening. Looks like a purplish miniature banana. Mines came mislabeled and after two months is still in bloom -fantastic species. Have you to thank to push me to dendrobiums. I have a problem with rest, Is like throwing a potatoe in a sack to wait for it to root. Good luck... on your hopefully !!!

That's exciting your going to look into getting more Australian orchids as I live in Australia and only have 2 den in my whole collection. One is what we call a Cooktown orchid, purple colour. I received it as a division from a customer at my work. Was her Mothers for over 40 years and lived in a old mango tree. I have a video of it on my channel. It's just bloomed for me and it's the sweetest little flower. The other is a Purple Pepper something...Long needle like leaves like a Brassavola and small white spindly like blooms If your going to invest in some and give feedback then I Will deff buy some more and try along with you. =)))

Hello Danny! I have a question for you. If you reply, I'd be so happy. Recently I purchased a cattleya and I couldn't find the brand of bark medium I always use, so I tried a different brand and repot the cattleya. Then I found out that this bark doesn't hold the water and completly dries out after only few hours! So, what would you suggest me, should I repot the orchid with a different bark knowing that it will stress the orchid way too much? Or simply let it be like this with the bark that doesn't hold the water?
Hope you'll answer me. Love you, bye!

Hi, tipicaly bark which really repels water is good quality, it should last you longer than others :) orchiata and kiwi bark are the best ones on the market. You can balance it out by mixing a bit of moss with it, or soak the orchid for 15 mins or so when watering. As it ages the bark will become more water retentive :)

Hi Dani, I was wondering if I could ask for your help? I bought a dendrobium nobile from the supermarket about a month ago and it was in bloom. It slowly lost its blooms, and I was thinking if repotting it, but I found what looks like a flower spike and keiki starting to grow. Can I ask your advice? Should I repot it? Ps I live in the Scottish Islands and this dendrobium sits 4 feet from a SW facing window, temp approx 19c. Xxx

BTW... Why not make a berry oda specimen!!!
And i live in aphyllum's native habitat, and my aunt's aphyllum has mannny 1.5 meter long canes..

2% Eco oil, 5% eco dish soap, 10% isopropyl alcohol, 80% rain water. Spray bottle mix - all surfaces. Wash off after 10 minutes and dry all leaves, crowns especially in fresh air until completely dry. Repeat everyweek for 2 - 4 weeks.
