    These stretches work! A few months ago, hip tendonitis kept me from enjoying my weekly hikes. I started doing these stretches a few times a week, and within a few weeks, I was able to get back on the trail. I've kept up with the stretches and am now able to hike further than ever before. Your UA-cam video made a big difference in my life. Thank you so much!

    How long will it takes for my hips to get better with these exercises and how often should I do the exercises? My hips affects me sitting down, laying flat down, driving, and sleeping on my side so I wonder will these exercises really work.

    Thank you so much. I am so active and I just had 2 failed hip reconstructions …then 3 trauma surgery’s on my leg to remove a 20 year
    Old rod and two screws that had no screw heads. Broken knee twice, broken femur due to a bone osteotomy then a total hip replacement Now I’m dealing with the tendinitis part. This is really encouraging and I cannot thank you enough for posting this. This ache is making me nauseous. It’s super draining and upsetting and I just want to get past this point. I know tendinitis could take a really long time to resolve and I feel I have to stay off of this but I also need to work so I’m really in a bind. I feel by working will take me back to square one :/ I am a massage therapist - more yikes :/

    Do I use tendonitis stretches and exercises to get rid of the pain or do I rest and wait for reduced or no pain then do these?

    My hip feels almost out of place in a way, when I rotate I feel a sharp pain in my hip and it is a bit uncomfortable to walk. I have had this for 2 days now but when I woke up today it was a lot worse. What could it be???

      These stretches works on the muscles, i had a similar problem. Had to see a doctor.. i think stretches alone is not enough for you

    Hi, I have had hip arthroscopic labrum surgery 5 weeks ago and have since had pain in the side of my hip. Would you suggest these exercises to help treat what I suspect is tendinitis or is it potentially risky in relation to my recovery from this surgery?

      Thanks! It depends on what stage of recovery you are in and how your body reacts to treatment, but in general, therapeutic exercises can be done 1-3 times a day, every day.

    Excellent, thank you for the very clear instructions on how to do these 🙂 My MRI said I have Tendinitis of the Gluteal packets inserted towards the Trochanter Major (iliopsoas and hamstrings are normal). I think that's my hip area so hoping these will help to strengthen my muscles. I'm Subscribed.

    My hip was suddenly in massive pain. The last time this happened it ended in surgery. I looked for exercise videos and found this one. I did the first two stretches and it feels a lot better. I hope it stays this way. Thank you!

    When I stretch my IT band, I feel pain in the inner hip/thigh, vice stretch in IT. How do I change that?

    Hi Doctor Jo! Happy subscriber here. My knees are healing from a minor injury, so I don’t feel confident doing the two first stretches. Is there a different way of doing them that doesn’t have to do with supporting all the weight on the knees? Is it ok to skip them?

    Thank you for the great info. on the straight leg raise I heard a pop in my hip flexor not sure if that was bad but it felt good two months of pain and now I'm starting to feel better

    Dr Jo I really appreciate your videos. You do a great job of describing the stretch or exercise. I have a hip tendinopathy that has been dogging me intermittently for months. I'm a fit woman and enjoy my fitness routine including elliptical, spinning and recreational walking. I need to get rid of it once and for all because it has worsened and is negatively impacting my QOL. I have compiled a list of your stretches and exercises for hip bursitis and tendonitis and have been doing twice daily, NSAIDS, icing and TENS. How often do you recommend I do in a day and when may I begin any of the activities I listed? Thank you again. Your style is very effective. I have shared your site with many.

      Thanks, and you're welcome. Therapeutic exercises can be done 2-3 times a day. As for when to start the activities, unfortunately I don't know since I can't evaluate you. It really depends on how severe your case is and how your body is reacting to treatment.

Injured side super weak but even good side is surprisingly not a strong as I'd guess! Thanks again. Really is a wonderful resource!!!

    While sitting on the floor with legs straight. I put a belt around my left ankle and try to pull my foot to my knee. before I get there I have to lean back. If I stay sitting up the pain in my glutes is pretty bad and does not feel like a stretch. I have been to an orthopedic doctor and it seems every pain I have he says is related to my hip arthritis. Would that be true or am I super tight?

      It could be a combination of both. Do you feel like you have really tight muscles?

      My muscles are a little tight,but they feel sore one the ends where they attach to the pelvis and hip bones. Stretching my glutes and pirifomis never feels good. It is usually a sharp pain and does not really feel like I am stretching anything.
      When I get in a car, I have to pick my leg up and put it in because of the pain. The pain is usually an inner thigh muscle up high on my thigh and one of the muscle in upper glute that runs from the upper middle glute to my thigh bone.

      Have you had any imaging? That almost sounds like a labrum issue. If you are getting sharp pain with stretches, you should definitely stop. Stretching should only be a "hurts so good feeling," but sharp pain is usually something a little more serious than just tight muscles.

      All I had were x rays. In 2014 I felt a pop on my inner thigh followed by bad pain that I still deal with. Every doctor I see takes an x ray and sees arthritis and says it is referred pain. No doctor ordered an mri or any other kind of imaging.

      Sorry to hear that. It really sounds like a labral issue, especially with the symptoms you are describing and how it happened.

    60 and my hobby is Jiu Jitsu and the constant grappling/rolling keeps my left hip flexor inflamed. I took a month off, but it started immediately when I started again. Hoping these will help.

      Haha. Knees are all better !….now pain in my left hip flexor. They tell me it is from sitting at my desk for two and a half years during COVID. Can’t seem to fix this issue.

    Hey Doctor Jo! MRI results indicate I have “Mild to moderate tendinosis of the gluteus minimus tendon at its insertion on the greater trochanter”. I was hoping you could recommend some exercises for this specific injury, how often they should be done, and perhaps the estimated healing timeframe. Thank you so much. Phil.

      I don't have a video for the gluteus minimus, bu ones for the maximus should still help: ua-cam.com/video/Y3T4IedBd4o/v-deo.html They can be done 2-3 times a day. As far as your other questions, I really don't know since I can't evaluate you. Everyone is different.

      You can do them 1-2 times a day. Yes, I always think icing for 10-15 minutes afterwards if you are still having pain or swelling is a good option. Good luck.
