Hi. Dr Joe I am a subscriber! I guess my questions Didn’t go through. I was diagnosed with SACRoiliac SI joint dysfunction. I’m scheduled to go for joint injection next week. I did your exercises today for the first time thank you so much. I’ve had three major back surgeries my back is fused with plates and screws from my neck down and I think that’s what they think my back is so fused they tell me that this happens to a lot of people I don’t know all I know is I can’t sit The pain is outrageous! Also I’ve read somewhere that I think squats and no good and I do Zumba so I don’t know if I should be doing that I don’t jump and I don’t spin around because I get vertigo. My question is what is the proper way to Ben’s with this I am 65 years old and I love Zumba but if it’s gonna make me in pain where I can’t function this is not good!I appreciate any help you can give me I love all your videos thank you so much! Just wanted to say thank you for this video. I’ve come back to it many times when I’m flared up and it really does seem to help. I’ve had chronic back pain for my whole adult life and in almost 15 years of physio and drs appointments, no one has shown me easy exercises like these that actually help right away.

Hi Dr. Jo, I am a new subscriber. I wish I could have viewed this video sooner. I have suffered from lower back pain for years. I first injured my back many years (35y) ago prepping for a powerlifting competition, while squatting I attempted to break my all-time best (which I did) and when re-racking the weight my left hip flexed and I instantly felt pain and that's where it all began. I am 71 now and have dealt with this for 35 years, I have seen four different Chiropractors, done physical therapy, spinal decompression, and massage therapy all this time thinking or was told it is a pinched sciatic nerve and the funny thing is with all the ex-rays, not one professional ever mentioned the SI joint. Just in the past month or so, I discovered the SI joint topic. I tried some of the self-diagnoses recommendations found here on UA-cam and sure enough, they all suggest an SI joint problem. I have just now spent several minutes trying your exercises and low and behold the last thing I did was to hold my thumb with pressure on the SI joint for several counts (6) six times. Oh, what a relief it is. I intend on seeing an orthopedic surgeon and discuss this and maybe just maybe finally after all these years get some real relief. Thank you, Dr. Jo,

Thanks for subscribing. Sorry to hear you had pain for so long without help. I am always surprised at how often SI joint dysfunction is overlooked with back pain. It's usually the first thing I will assess on someone with back issues. I hope you continue to get relief and recover soon!

This video is a jewel!! After an awkward move while dancing I was unable to even walk without pain. All my lower back was blocked and I thought it was a disc herniation of my lumbar region. After one day of heavy medication I realized it was not the lumbars but the sacroiliac and then I found this video. Like magic, after performing some of these excercise I could walk again without pain, on more night of rest and next morning after second repetition of the routine I was just fine. Amazing how our bones work like a machine. Thank you so much for this video!

I dont know what I did to myself. I'm 69, and suffer from severe medial knee osteoarthritis in both knees. I will need TKR to both knees eventually so I am trying to get in the best shape of my life. I have a personal trainer and have gone to a gym 4 days a week for an hour a day for the last year and a half. It has made quite a difference. Unfortunately I did something to my SI joint on the left side. It was starting to get depressing after a few days so I looked at this video and used the belt and ball "shotgun techniques". I did 2 sets 24 reps of pelvic tilts followed by 3 sets of 5 belt exercises and 3 sets of 5 ball exercises. I didnt hear a pop, but hours later I now realize.....the pain is totally gone! Thank you so much. Dr. Jo!

I really like how you get into things fairly quickly... so many videos make you listen to a long explanation before they get into what you are supposed to do to elevate and that becomes irritating pretty quickly if you are already in pain LOL... these exercises are great and I feel immediate relief. Some I certainly will incorporate daily!!

Unbelievable. I am a 43yr independent contractor. I have been dealing with what I thought was a nagging hip flexor strain for the past 3 months, that would not go away or get better. Pain would drag around from my right SI joint, above my hip, and down to my thigh. Abdominal muscles hurt, hip joint hurt, etc. I just did your set of exercises once last evening, and once this morning. And i honestly am in shock. Muscles are still a bit sore(I'm sure because they've been aggravated for so long). But damn near all of pain is gone. TOTAL LIFESAVER!!! there were days when It was hard to walk, sleep, sit, lay down...and times when the muscles were spasming so bad, it felt like I had appendicitis. Thank god I found your video!

Hi Doctor Jo. I wanted to see maybe if you have a suggestion, this injury I’ve had has been sort of a puzzle. I fell on my SI joint skateboarding, this is was on February. Now it’s almost October and I still get this ache in this SI joint area, I think this ache is tightness. I’ve been through a chiropractor and 3 physical therapists and the one I’m seeing now has recommend that I do specific stretches. And the ones she having me do stretch all my right back side and after i do them I feel a lot of relief but if I miss one time doing these stretches then it goes back to being as worse as it was in the start. I just been doing them morning and night when I go to the pt. Also we’ve been doing excercises.
The first thing that you do where I think you say that your SI joint might be out of place, my physical therapist has looked at me and said everything seems to feel fine. I’m so confused now. Also I’m doing a lot of laying and sitting at home, i think that’s not helping but I cannot lay on my back very long in bed.
It feels like the muscles or tendons around the si joint where I fell even down to my butt are tight and I thought that if the stretches were helping alleviate the pain then we found out what was wrong and that’s great, but now my pt is saying maybe acupuncture or a orthopedist.

But the pain is on my right side. In this case, which leg should be straight and pushing towards the floor in the first exercise? My second question is
for the movement in which we push while lying on our side. Am I pushing in the muscles at the point where the sacrum and pelvis meet? Or am I pushing the bone felt at the PSIS point? THANKS

You're welcome. Unfortunately, it's not about what side has pain, it's about which way that side is rotated (anteriorly or posteriorly), so I don't know since I can't evaluate you.

Excellent for strengthening the joint. An easy to follow series of exercises. I started doing these following the self adjustment technique in the other video which clicked my joint back into place. Amazing results. These videos are fantastic

In general, heat is used before stretches and exercises to help loosen/warm the area up, and then cold afterwards to help reduce pain and swelling.

Hi - Thank you Doctor Jo! My SI pain is diminishing and I have only been doing your exercises for a week. I was wondering where I could purchase a pillow/cushion like the one you have in your SI video. Many thanks - Heather

The one I’m using in this video is called the Womfy, but it’s no longer available. I have reviewed another pillow I really like from SleepOvation. Here's the video I made about it: ua-cam.com/video/v-Nq8qm7RQk/v-deo.html

Thank you I have been suffering from SI joint issues for 25 years or more! It flared up bad 4 weeks ago! It amazes me how doctors just don’t know what to do with this common issue. Orthopedic and pain management only want to give masking pain shots! This time I could actually feel the joint out! I do do some of the things you recommend already but I did learned something new! The donkey kick! LoL. Thanks for posting

can SIJ dysfunction slowly affect other areas over the years? since i started having symptoms 3 years ago my lower back now has issues and recently my upper back between my shoulder blade and spine has been very tense and over exerted as well as the muscles going up to my neck. all on the same right side as my SIJ dysfunction. are they all connected like a chain reaction?
