No idea if you're still on here, but thats fricken awesome! Ray is a hardcore beast, but also a good dude. Much respect. I envy you for even having the bragging rights of knowing someone who knows his sister haha. I am super happy its Ray, I feel like he is helping keep Korn alive, and the day Korn no longer exists, my heart will break.
As an ex-student, I can say Ray's got it all: good taste, progressive chops, a team player's attitude, and a take-no-prisoner's approach to driving heavy riffs. All that and a heck of a good guy to hang with and learn from...
If you had asked me years ago, I would've said I wanted David and the original 5 back together. If you asked me now, I'd say Ray's addition to the band and Korn's line-up today is the strongest it's ever been.
I think David had a really unusual and interesting approach to rock drumming but Ray is a monster all around drummer. Also had the reputation for being a really nice guy and for a big band like Korn when they are touring you need easy going personalities on the road.
What a pro. Ray is a talented guy who really has moulded his craft into an explosive sound. Truly a great fit with Korn and gets the whole vibe about the band. Munky was really feeling his groove
@ 1:49 when he throws a hand signal up for the count of that transition! That's a pro move. That's a guy who knows what he's doing, is prepared, competent & confident.
Dude this is Korn history right here! Ray has been with them 10 years now and I'm just blown away by how he has fit into this band. He always still seems like he's still just a big fan of Korn and got the gig with them by chance. Of course, Rays skills on the drums along with the setup of his set and his showmanship is "untouchable" ha! See what I did they! Lol just wanted to say thank you Ray for giving 110% to this band and thank you to Korn for sticking with playing and entertaining your fans for 20 something years now. Now and forever Korn fan! I've been a KoRn fan for 20 years, and yes it was sad to see David go, but seeing Ray join was a great addition and I wouldn't have it any other way!! Not to mention, Ray's just good people... I've met him... super cool dude!

I am a drummer, and know exactly how Ray felt when Korn told him he got the gig. The current local thrash metal band I'm in in Providence,RI had me audition for the drums, and almost instantly they knew I was the guy for the job. It feels good to have guys your auditing for tell you your drumming is good and that they think you do very tasteful things. GO RAY!
I've seen Ray as a drummer for awhile and ive seen a million videos of drummers, bands, ect, he has the heart and the attitude of noone I've ever seen before, and those are the key to success, way to be ray!!
First time I saw Ray come out with KoRn in Detroit, I was like who is this guy?? Another hired gun ? Then I heard him play, was blown away. 🤘🏻. Powerful behind the kit. He gets into it. Good stage presentation. Kills it every time
Holy shit he was dialed in and locked down the whole way through. This is what seperates session artists. You have top level A+ guys like this, and the rest are just clawing their way up for a shot. Fucking amazing audition.
Ray is great! He is a graduate and former instructor at the famous Musician's Institute (PIT-percussion institute of technology) program in California and can absolutely play any style-very well in fact!
Ray is killer. Awesome fit for Korn. If you wanna hear a it more of his work, listen to Army Of Anyone. It was a supergroup with the Deleo brothers from STP, Ray and Richard Patrick of Filter. Very tight solid drumming, especially the end of Goodbye.
I was a janitor at a venue where korn was playing. They each had their own separate bathrooms to use. I had to clean and unclog a toilet used by Ray himself and there was no stink. Rays shit didn't stink
Has nothing to do with who is better bro it's really simple they needed a drummer they auditioned several and he was the one they chose because they felt he was the one ....plain and simply that
Love this guy!!! He has brought so much energy to Korn. More importantly, his powerful tempo, layers, and depth has made good tracks before Ray into FANTASTIC songs that literally punch you in chest and explode out your back! Crazy, but that’s the only way way I can describe the experience.
Fantastic drummer. Loved his groove and power since first hearing him with David Lee Roth. To see him audition, nail it and then get told "you got the gig" is a brilliant thing to see.
It's always awesome to be told "you got the job"...auditions are tough but when you do your homework and you get the gig its all worth just to be told your the man!!....good job Ray.
+Benjamin Morgan He knows it too that's why a simple "cool man" was given and he didn't get overly excited. He knows he's the fuckin man and if korn wasn't a fit then another band would be.
Still get chills watching this! Just shows up and fucking rocks like he’s been apart of the band since day one.. no disrespect to Dave but my god lol Ray just owns it
There's NO comparing the old drummer with Ray... 2 complete different levels. Ray's done SO much more in his career and plays so many styles. Some musicians have to work their way to the top, some luck out.. I can't wait for Oct. 8th to hear Luzier shine once again!
ive seen Ray with KoRn twice this year and he is exactly what KoRn needed..theyve found a real gem. hes 10x the drummer David ever was..Ray has become one of my fav all time drummers!!! he RuLeS!!!
Glad to see things went so well for Ray. I am a huge Silveria fan but Ray stepped up and handled business. Fun to watch him play. Reminds me alot of Shannon Larkin the way he plays.
What a trip. He got the gig *on the spot* I heard when he got the call to schedule the audition, they gave him 5 songs to learn in the 2 days he had until the actual audition. He learned 30.
Ray is a cool guy in person too, got to meet him at Mayhem...I miss David in the band, but Ray is awesome. I can just sit and listen to him play and I smile!
Can you imagine KoRn telling you they would love to take you to Europe? That's my fantasy dream come true right there. If it were me in that position from then on I would practice for a minimum of 3 to 4 hours a day (when I'm not touring) till I could play all their songs in my sleep. After that as long as I stay off drugs, maintain a level of compatibility with the band, work my ass off and perform well, I would have it MADE...
Larry Taylor Yeah any drummer willing to go to that extent to impress a band as big as Korn is the real deal. It makes a hell of a statement. I'm sure a ton of very talented big names auditioned as well, but Ray Luzier unquestionably blew it out of the water. IMO it's not just what you play, it's HOW you play it, regarding the feel, aggression, attitude, especially with music as hard and heavy Korn, because not everyone is a good match, like Joey from Slipknot, who is extremely skilled, but Korn just isn't the right band for him. Ray is a very serious musician and I respect him immensely as a drummer.
Adam Lambert You're spot on with a lot of your stuff - But Joey being 'extremly skilled' was a laugh imo. Extremly fast, yes (but not anywhere near fastest.. George Kollias or any other in his branch does it faster) Ray would tear shit apart in Slipknot, I do think that the new drummer of Slipknot, Jay Weinberg is a lot more like Ray than Slipknot - It's kind of the same way, imo the both bands made major upgrades to the drums when the former drummer left. This is all my opinion of course :) I find Ray to be among the best drummers I know and one of my biggest inspiration at least :-) Don't get me wrong Joey was the guy that inspired me to learn double bass, Before I forget was the first song I played with double bass, but after like 5 years of passionate drumming, you get to a point where u see through all the extremely fast single strokes.. It's always RLRLRLRLRLR or RLKKRLKKRLKK or RLRLKKRLRLKKRLRLKKRLRLKK - Nah man, Ray and jay alike, got groove and rythm, and can play to any type of music! (They both alike already have had a good enough career before joining these big bands, I do remind you!) Ray is a friggin beast for sure. Always super tight and has amazing licks and what not. Amazing for sure! That's what discipline does for you, when motivation runs out and it will, the only thing that is left that matters is discipline and dedication. Remember that. Discipline and dedication takes you on world tours and gives u a great career, not 'talent' (So called 'Talent' is a bullshit thing. Any sucessfull person knows there isn't anything worth in ''talent'' only that time is of the essence and should never be wasted. In a drummers case, you practise practise practise, work those rudiments, train those doublestrokes, practise your weakspots. Over and over again. It will certainly not be fun at all times. But sucessfull people knows this and keep doing what they do. This went far deeper than I ever imagined in the first place! :) Have a great day all drummers and keep the good practice up!
I couldn't even imagine trying out for Korn then right after them going 'yeah were not gonna even talk it over, you got it'. That had to have been one of the greatest moments in his life. Or in the top 3 at least!
David Silveria is a groove drummer. Ray Luzier is a heavy metal drummer. KoRn has gone heavy metal now, and I love heavy metal, but I also love the classic groove rock KoRn did in the 90s. I want David back :(
havent followed korn since '99. came across video of this guy and I was blown away. like damn I didnt know their drummer was a beast. lol....never knew they changed.
That was badass! I used to play a little in high school..should've stuck with it..great fit for the band and I have to say I've been listening since the beginning and they sound better than ever if you ask me! Can't wait to see them live ASAP! FU@# COVID!!
There's no comparison at ALL to their old drummer, I've seen Ray with Korn 5 times in the last few years.. they sound amazing with him and he adds a whole new energy! The Paradigm Shift is the best Korn record since Follow the Leader IMO.
ray is one of the greatest rock drummers in my opinion and nice person to talk to:) I love his feel and taste for doing all that crazy fills around the kit.
How, nerve racking that must have been for him, he did great and is not David but way better....if you can't see that you're Blind. I like the David and Head era the best but definitely respect Ray and what he brings.
Im personally more of a fan of David > Ray, but thats only because David played way more in the pocket. Ray may have a bit more speed and technicality, but he needs some swing and groove parts. The stuff he writes seems like it sits way higher on the ear than david. I mean they both tear up cymbols, but the choice of when to use them placement wise throughout is way different. Ray much trebble, many speed, David, much bass, many groove. The use of rests, or seemingly random tom phrases, or pacing a beat then a rest then someone throws a tin can at the wall, thats the stuff I liked about David and early Korn, it wasn't as predictable. GIVE RAY MORE POCKETS! That way he grooves better with fieldy.
lol was thinking the same thing as he said i was like dude were we even watching the same performance? either way ray destroyed, this was so sick to see im glad they filmed it!
@@johnknight9150 exactly what i was trying to say. he rushes and drags on purpose in some cases to add to the groove. especially when he's playing the verse section and the part which jonathan says im so blind.
Korn are like a beautiful priceless vase, but a few years ago that vase fell off its shelf and smashed. Ray is the motherf***ing glue thats finally been used to put the vase back together. HE IS AWSOME
"You got the job, man." A history in the making.
Imagine his reaction. "Holy shit, I'm in!"
Ray : “congratulations Korn, I’m your drummer”
What history lol trust me man I consider myself one of the biggest fans since I was a kid they haven't had anything close to their old shit
fun fact: Ray was asked to learn how to play 5 Korn songs in preparation for the audition, and he learned 30.
33 to be exact
Dylan Stoner that’s right, he learned 33 and was asked to learn 4 not 5 xD haha the fun fact was more fun than a fact it seems 😂 i’m a huge fan of ray
@@CoteSaldias what other bands did he perform in?
@Ari Awan thanks man i didn't know that..

The guy generates a consistent huge sound. And he plays like his life depends on it. No contest.
agree. its like its his last day to play drums... one hell of a talent.
It’s really about energy, it’s hard to distinguish talent at that level, but you can distinguish energy. This guy has it.
Any musicians have that blast in them that make them feel like it’s the last day to live so fuck it type of feeling you start to surprise your own self.
Check out David Lee Roth, 2002, New Haven. Tight band.
Not a patch on David.

you're right !!
he is really great
David AND the original 5? Only Ray is different compared to the 1993 line up of the band
I think David had a really unusual and interesting approach to rock drumming but Ray is a monster all around drummer. Also had the reputation for being a really nice guy and for a big band like Korn when they are touring you need easy going personalities on the road.
i think the rest of the band would also agree w you :)

He's awesome! I think he brings a more refined and complex groove into Korn! Great choice!
I like Korn, and all. However, the fortune is theirs. He's by far the most talented dude of the group now. His resume speaks for itself.
He might be better technically and musically but the Korn guys spawned a whole new genre and wrote countless of unforgettable songs.
Most talented in the band? Lol. Do you know how many great riffs these guys have written over the years? Lol. Go somewhere else fool

ok No David has said some shit on his facebook wall implying some racist crap, u can go to his wall and read his earlier post.
havent followed korn since '99. came across video of this guy and I was blown away. like damn I didnt know their drummer was a beast. lol....never knew they changed.
awesome!
every time this pops up on my feed I watch it! best decision korn ever made hiring Mr. luzier
Luzier's easily the best musician in that group.
+Fred Garvin Not all musicians can write songs.
Musician wise? Definitely. Jonathan just sings and plays a bit of guitar I believe.
Jon made half of issues by himself... lol, thats lyrics,Drums,Guitar..
drummers are NOT musicians
Dunford00 lol what?
That was badass! I used to play a little in high school..should've stuck with it..great fit for the band and I have to say I've been listening since the beginning and they sound better than ever if you ask me! Can't wait to see them live ASAP! FU@# COVID!!
There's no comparison at ALL to their old drummer, I've seen Ray with Korn 5 times in the last few years.. they sound amazing with him and he adds a whole new energy! The Paradigm Shift is the best Korn record since Follow the Leader IMO.
Untouchables
Serenity of Suffering even better now lol
Rick Miser Please tell me you’re joking.
so good to watch, love big RL
He INSTANTLY made them better!
He perfectly fits for the job, Amazing drummer! Heavy hitter...Those fills are sick.
this is the right drummer for the korn!!
ray is one of the greatest rock drummers in my opinion and nice person to talk to:)
I love his feel and taste for doing all that crazy fills around the kit.
The moment I saw this guy play., I bought a double bass pedal and have been practicing with it for 3 years.
Saw Korn last night in Cape-Town...Ray is the Best rock drummer i've ever seen live.He makes Korn even better.
How, nerve racking that must have been for him, he did great and is not David but way better....if you can't see that you're Blind. I like the David and Head era the best but definitely respect Ray and what he brings.
Love these gentlemens,great deal🤘
Comparing him to Silveria is pointless. He left, so somebody had to replace him.. It's not like they could choose, so..
Went to school with Ray. We were in drumline together. I graduated in '86 and him in '88. We have kept in touch ever since.
he is one the greatest drummers ever..
Ray Luzier, beast mode. Amazing!
Ray is a freak with no leash..this guy was made for Korn.
David was Korn
You sir, are a gift to music.
Man I never even watched this guy play and I'm kicking myself for it. Never seen someone so relaxed in the pocket.
2:49 - "very tasteful fills; solid, laid back, the grooves were nice..."
Ray Luzier does NOT play 'laid back'.
lol was thinking the same thing as he said i was like dude were we even watching the same performance? either way ray destroyed, this was so sick to see im glad they filmed it!
he was laid back tempo-wise
He is, but in the musical sense. He means he's playing behind the beat and not running on forward, which is critical for a groove drummer.
