@@MrLboydReacts not to say they donβt sound great now, but Iβd also recommend checking out lives from when they just released it. This song is 20 years old and unfortunately the voice is an instrument that most times doesnβt age like wine. Not to say that Serj sounds way off, but there was a bit more pep in his step in 2001.
All I'm saying is that if he can't watch the studio versions he should at least check out performances of their earlier years and not the recent stuff since they sounded very close to studio versions in their earlier years.

Also, the frontman, Serj Tankian, has a great solo debut album called Elect The Dead (2007). If you enjoy that, he created a symphony version of it years later with the Aukland Philharmonic Orchestra, which he performed live with professional photography.
Live and then following up with the album version is a great idea! Dig in bro.
Makes sense why you need to do the live versions. Would be great to see a short video sometime in the future, where you briefly mention your thoughts about the studio albums of these songs- more potential for lyrical analysis and such.
BYOB or Toxicity should be very high on your list for these guys. and yes it is very easy to fall in love with their entire catalogue.

2017 was a rough year for Serj as he seemed to be pretty sick which obviously impacted performances. They performed this song way better back in the day though in the early 2000s
When you get the chance sit and listen to their album toxicity from cover to cover, musicianship, lyricism all on point. All of their songs have quite heavy subject matter, and Darren and Serge (the two with the guitars) are both classically trained multi instrumentalists and are both trained opera singers. Their work is unreal.
Definitely should listen to the studio album.
Pinkpop live, in my opinion, is one of the worst SOAD lives, who recommended him to watch this?

Thru the grapevine (and maybe personal experience) I was always told never see SOAD live or you'll never listen to SOAD again.

Man I love SOAD, but this is the first time even I have heard their live stuff. Album version is much, much better, imo.

From 2000 to 2005, their live performances were on par with the studio versions, often even better...
In the early 10's, his voice was still powerful but more nasal and zero screaming...

Somebody needs to take them to court. Most reaction videos are genuine fair use cases. Also, they should understand that it actually brings them more traffic, not less.

I've just watched all of you SOAD reactions. As a long term fan it's great to see someone new appreciate just how incredible they really are.
I was trying to think of what songs I would recommend but there is just too many! So I'm going to vote for the whole catalog! As much as you enjoyed Chop Suey, I think you would really like B.Y.O.B or Prison Song for a song with a message!

Bro that riff is not crazy it masterpiece :) IT work on my brain like comercial riff. 20 years later and every note is hitting the lyrics in my brain which my conscious has forgoten. I literaly would not be able to remind my self the lyrics on my own but as soon as the riff starts they all come back to me with ease :)

You already seem like a much more intelligent person that understands how music works. You're not just screaming "Braaaaaah!!!!" for 7 minutes like so many other reactions. I love being at a concert,but hate watching recorded live events,this sounds terrible compared to the studio version.
Live versions can be good, if the guy mixing the recording knows what they're doing. This one was definitely not the best mixing, the vocals are completely drowned out.

Some bands are great live, some aren't. Watch a live Rush concert and it sounds like the album or even better.
I saw System once about 20 years ago, right before they broke up. They put on a good show but weren't a great live band. Now that they're older and recently reunited, I wouldn't expect them to be great all of a sudden.
But they're studio albums are awesome.
Live versions suck bad, unless you are NOFX or The Offspring and people actually put in hard work into making stuff sound proper good.
@@puffin20 I never would have guessed Offspring put on a good show. But then again, I disliked them since their first single hit when I was 13ish. Don't know why I hated Offspring and 311, but liked similar groups like Greenday and Sublime
But there are plenty of older bands that sounded great live. Rush and Pink Floyd come to mind, and many of their contempararies. I recently saw Alice in Chains, and even with a replacement singer(RIP Staley) they sounded better than the studio album in some cases. Can't say the same for Korn, who they opened for(Korn puts on great show, but can't reproduce the album sound IMO)
The lead singer (Serj) has an amazing solo album as well. He knows how to play every instrument on his songs.

I seen them live at this video you saw. The coolest part was a lot of other musicians were looking at SOAD from backstage. It was their first festival since 10 years and they only starting touring/playing again this year. They started in the Netherlands as we were the first country to offically recognize the Armenian Genocide, which happend 100 years ago in 2017, hence they played in the Netherlands first. It was really cool show!

In my mind I have made this a classification of poetic metal. When you think of everything collectively itβs hard to compare them to anything else. When you close your eyes or even open them and look at the live the connection of the artists and the people is mesmerizing.
PLEASE react to their song βSoilβ or βDeer Danceβ. They are my favorite songs and they have MASSIVE range throughout the entirety of them. My boyfriend sent me these videos and I am obsessed! I personally would like to see you react to some live greenday performances. They are utterly amazing rock song performers.
And honestly you could pluck out 10 random songs from greenday and the odds are(in my estimation at least) that 8 of them are gonna be worthy of listening to a 2nd or 3rd time.

one of my favorite songs of all time. thank you for doing SOAD even though they can be strict online. even if it's the concert versions, I'll watch and like every single one you release. check out the 2015 concert of Holy Mountains which was the first ever concert they did in Armenia. it started raining and it was a beautiful moment. the song is about the Armenian genocide, so it was a very powerful moment for the whole crowd. other songs to check out would be Toxicity, Spiders, BYOB, and so many more lol

I think they're great live, it's just a very different kind of performance, more raw and less polished. But yeah, it's much harder to make out the lyrics and Serj's voice doesn't come through as clearly.
Imagine being the sound-engineer of SOAD, with the modulation and changes going through pretty much all their songs.
System of a Down and Serj Tankian as a solo artist are my all time favorites in music. I really love from SOAD 'Lonely day' and 'Soldierside' (the song, not the Intro version).
Serj does a pretty cool crossover with my favorite Rapper Tech N9ne, Song called 'Straight out the gate', it would be really nice seeing some reactions for that great song!
