Very different from the old trucks did not know i had to pull the pulley off to get the pump unbolted thanks for saving me a trip back to the parts store.
Glad the video helped!
Thanks for such a close up view of the job…
Thank you for the video. I am not a mechanic, but I can wrench if I know what to do. Videos like yours help me immensely. Once again, thank you
Thanks for watching!
Good on the video!! You started out the video saying "here" a lot but smooth sailing after the minute mark... best of luck on all your future videos!! I'll probably be watching this video 20 times over the next 48 hrs lol
Thank you brother ..helped me out of a jam... STAY KRYPTIC YO...!!!
Nice! Glad the video help!
Dude. This is exactly what I was looking for, and was so helpful. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
@@TheWiscoGuyz Hey I have a 1989 the power steering just went out but I cannot find a pump anywhere that comes with a reservoir already on where did you get yours from ??? I really want to make sure I get the right one I've already looked at all the auto parts stores
I got mine from NAPA auto parts store. I believe it was PART # PS 381073... Which is for the 5.7 liter (350ci) v8. It does Come with the reservoir as well. No pulley though
This is non hydroboost right?
Correct
1996 GMC with 4.3l V6, power steering pump in same location, but the alternator and A/C compressor are swapped opposite sides so it tweaks the job a little
Love the instruct now wrenching with a smile after seeing a leak knee got weak
Much different layout in 87's thanks for identifying pressure side
Going from square body to Obs I would imagine it being a bit different. Thanks for watching
TheWiscoGuyz I got a problem my pulley gots play but pump still works also I noticed the bracket that holds the pump is missing 2 bolts in the bottom or the they broke off and the thread is in there still I think so my truck serpentine belt keeps wanting to slip off even after I replaced the belt tensioner and pulley and put a new belt so what I’m trying to say is all I need is a new pump pulley and those 2 bolts and my serpentine belt problem will be solved?
@@mikecoxlongthe3rd220 I would say at that point i would replace everything power steering related, if its got play in the pulley its probably on it way out. If the bolts are missing thats the best case Ontario. If they are broken they would have to be extracted. That my take some time. Replace the power steering pump, pulley, pressure line and return line, get new bolt to mount it, and last a new belt. I had a jeep with a 5.2 v8 that had a power steering pulley loose and the pulley shot out of the engine bay on to the road then into a farmers field. I was one my way to fix it. About a 1/4 mile from the shop.
Seems likely mark squirt jizz on whats left get the broken bolts out replace with new.... I did this job a month ago and the power steering belt has more slack in it than the other belts wich have very little slack
I'm debating about swapping mine out again. This pump isn't that old, but I hate noises coming from my engine. Yours had been going bad for sometime till it was totally empty, so mine has just a small play when the pulley is attached. I wish you would have shown just a little bit more after the install by grabbing the pulley and showing the difference. Good instruction though.
Thanks for watching!
On the new pump are there threads to put the pulley installer into? Gonna be doing the pump on my 98 this week and I’m just curious
I could really smell this video. Hot power steering fluid and cut off wheel.
Good work! Getting ready to do mine on my 88 K1500. Thanks!
Nice! Glad I could help!
So did you finish your 88 model yet and what was the issue with yours???
@@Smalltechguy Yes. Mine started making noise and my gearbox was sloppy so I replaced both at the same time. It's easy enough.
@@SuperHartwigs @TheWiscoGuyz having a hard time removing the pump out, removed all bolts, and that bracket to the alternator, but I can't wiggle it/ pivot out of the spot in my 88 4.3L C1500. @8:23 - @8:30 step.
This helps. Thank you.
Glad this video helped! Thanks for watching!
Thank you given me a idea
Very helpful. Had to install twice because the new (rebuilt) pump was crap. DON'T BUY CARDONE REBUILDS. Learned a lot! I'm a pro now! lol
Glad the video helped! Thanks for watching!
is a brand new cardone pump any good? ive got one coming in soon for my 93 gmc c1500.
@@Allen-ko1oz my experience has been that Cardoni products are not very reliable. Their customer service was unhelpful and almost resentful. However, my understanding is that they are the only show in town so hopefully you’ll get lucky and get a great experience.
@@Homelyfe4u hopefully, installing it at the moment so im hoping she works lol
Is that the right and original Power steering pump back brace bracket for that truck?
Thanks
Thanks for watching!
I have a question, I know the video is pretty old but how do u know if it’s the power steering pump pulley and not what it’s behind of?.like the part the pulley goes on too.
THINK I WILL GET NEW PRESSURE LINE BEFORE I TACKLE MINE.
THANKS!
Thanks for video. What camera do you use to upload? Unfortunately I have to do this task on Christmas day.
Gopro hero 7
Glad that the video helped! Merry Christmas!
Great now to go try it see if itbworls
Did it work?
People unhook the battery before you do anything trust me
its a good idea to unhook the battery before starting the truck.
but seriously the pump isn't electrical and 12v DC isn't going to shock you unless your licking the battery posts. there's no point in detaching the battery.
Potential bad ground. He became the ground
Yeah its just a good precaution. I agree
He said it was negative 0 degrees. Lol.
Replace the hoses too
Bone dry you say? Maybe that’s why it was making noise
Would you happen to know what power steering fluid you use in a 1997 C1500 5.7L? I'm having a hard time finding out what to use. I can't find any specifications in the manual.
I looked at alldata (info on any make and model) for info on it. It just said GM power steering fluid. But Napa has this that is specific to 97 c1500

@@TheWiscoGuyz I really appreciate it, man. Thank you so much!!
You welcome! Make sure to subscribe to keep up with the channel! Thanks for watching!
I’ve heard you should use synthetic for chevy. I still use chepo off brand stuff. Smooth steering
I just looked at this one vid of yours but... Think about a light for your viewers
Because I have a 1993 Chevy C 1500 and I got long tube Headers on it so I had to take off the bracket that was on there but now when I turned the AC on the power steering pump rattles without having the rear bracket on it… but The kind of style bracket you have on yours may work for me so I was just wondering what year and type of truck that bracket comes off of?
This was a 1988
My sensor is bad on a 1997 chevy 1500 can't find pressure sensor anywhere is it safe to bypass this sensor on the power steering pump.
I don't think my 1988 model had a pressure sensor for the power steering.
Great video man. But I have a question would a bad power steering pump cause the engine to stall while tight turns? That's what my 94 is doing
I had that happen on full lock turns even with the new steering pump. It might just be the pump kicking back the pressure and stalling the engine out.
What was it my 94 is doing that as well
I ended up getting a new distributor and timed it right. Problem fixed
Where did you get that pully puller? The 2 I got from harbor freight where to big it's the Allen key type
Snap-on or mac tools I believe
Buddy, you made that much harder than it is.
Why is that?
What did this sound like before you replaced it? Mine seems to be super ticky especially when turning
Mine sounded fine. No ticking
whats the tool used part number
Whats the process though on fluid afterwards and bleeding it etc?
Once you have your fluid put in. Jack up the front of the truck so the front wheels are off the ground and with the engine off but key on... Turn your steering wheel left all the way to lock and right all the way to lock, turn the wheel lock to lock around 10 ten time. Then set the truck down and check fuild. Then start the truck and see if it whines... If it does... repeat the process till the power steering is quiet. If it quiet your good to go. Just make sure you keep checking the level of the fluid.
@@TheWiscoGuyz One way is to fill it up. Leave cap off and start up, turn lock to lock turn off and fill up. Put cap on and drive. The system will get all the air out once you going down the road. I’ve done it that way after doing the pitman arm
Do you still have this truck? If so can you post a video for the serpentine belt set up.
Unfortunately i do not... Engine blew up about a year ago
@@TheWiscoGuyz dang ok thanks for posting this video helped me out alot
@@redhead3367 thanks for watching!
Just did a GMC Bus at work and was curious how other people went about it. Make life much easier, unbolt the tensioner, (1 bolt) then get the other two bolts on the Mount and pull the pump off with the Mount. Then you can pull the pulley off and install it on a bench outside the vehicle.
What’s the power steering fluid capacity?
I think i used about 3 to 4 pints
Just broke the screw inside of the pulley, back at it tm
Dang dude. Good luck hope you get it out
Would this work the same for 92 suburban
Should be about the same
What is the part number for the puller
O'Reilly's upc #39564870200
How long does a job like this take....I have 99 k1500 that I'm replacing this weekend?
It took about 3-4 hours with me Filming
Very good teaching, BUT, you forgot to disconnect the BATTERY, BEFOE STARTING
Dang! I always forget to do that.
Lol safety nazii
Couldn't hear a word u said
Mine leaks but only after shutting off the truck and is noisy but only every once in a while it's so strange
That is strange
My power steering fluid is burnt does that mean I have a bad power steering pump and also I smell a burning smell like my truck is going to catch on fire
Definitely need to change the pump and flush the system.
I wish I didn’t have a 10 inch lift on my truck this was not fun
Did you have to take the fan off?
I believe I left it in. But I did take the top of the fan shroud off to have more access.
@@TheWiscoGuyz I'm working on it right now. How the hell did you get to that rear bottom bolt?? Lol
@@TheWiscoGuyz on the back of the pump
It was hard to do. Got to get the right wrench in there.
@@TheWiscoGuyz so I've took all bolts and nuts loose. And it wont come out for some reason
What brand of fluid, impatient and pissed
i just used power steering fluid Napa had
@@TheWiscoGuyz thanks for the reply bud, i hadnt done power steering before and didnt wanna toss the wrong shit in there.
@@purestench9263 Total hear yeah! Thanks for watching
😅😅
Gotta bleed it
speak louder, can't hear, low sound
couldnt hear a friggin word he said
can't see either.
If you would of just did some premaintenance on your vehicle you wouldn't be changing out your pump.
This is true... Unfortunately people do not follow maintenance scehdules. Then the second or third or tenth hand owner have to change a pump out.
Mine has 250,000 miles and i know I'm at least the 4th owner. I'm replacing the whole system because it leaks from everywhere.
Best thing to do! Then you know its going to work and not leak!
You didn't even show how to do it. Thumbs down.
You didn't even start the truck
I could really smell this video. Hot power steering fluid and cut off wheel.
