- So, it's experiment time again and this time we are testing the mighty Diamond X510 antenna.
Join in the fun, turn on GM MODE ON your Yaesu C4FM equipped radio on the frequency of 145.325MHZ and lets see if we can make contact! I am in the Hertforshire area.

Just bought my first ham radio. Excited to try it out.
Great video rog. Love the range test. You come across beautifully on camera
As do you rog, as do you, I often fall asleep to your dulcet mancunian tones.
@@andykirbyget a room u pair 😂😂
Wow as I remember my late 1980's Yaesu 400 Mhz band transceiver was about twice the size of this tiny one.... fun times back then with lots of chatter. :)
Very nice video Andy! I love Lewis and yours videos doing radio things!! The best to you both from LB1NH 🙂
Loved to watch your videos and yes, I would love to see more videos like this.
My personal best with my FT5D is nearly 50 miles in FM mode, using an upgraded longer handheld whip antenna. I was standing on top of a 600 foot hill at the time.
That's simplex of course. Using WiresX I've spoken to people on the other side of the planet with it.
That gives me an excuse to get a license for ham radio
You need an excuse?
Good watch Andy
Hi Andy did cal you on 145.325 using both FM and C4FM from Windsor using the FT3D into a vertical on the roof, with 5w out. Sadly, no joy at 18:20z today.
OK, did you try GM mode?
There's no callsign logged on my radio here so might not be a good path between us.
Tried again at 11:20 with GM mode on. No reply. Distance between us is 33 miles approx, so with 5w is a bit of an ask. I also took a looka t the terrain profile between us and there are a number of high spots that give signal attennuation. I can however get into Welwyn VH..just. Might be worth having a sked to try further.
Group Monitor + C4FM +10m =❤
29.250 C4FM 🙂
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Should've bolted that big mast to your chimney Andy....lol...Or move to a house on the hill...🤔😮😀😀😏🇬🇧
Spot on Andy. Interesting stuff ! M6XYT
Do you have the all too common crack appearing in the FT5D body behind the PTT button ?
Hey mate. Nice to catch a video for a change. Not played radio for some time. 73 - Steve - G0LQP - My FT70D has C4FM but never used it.
Hey mate! Good to hear from you. We will have to try it!
You driving a golf buggy mate.....👍🥃🇦🇺
Andy, do a vid on how you set your homebase radio up to work with FT5 mate
Awesome antenna. Where can I buy it? :)
Height is the King for radio use.
Here in Coventry we have finally got the local repeater up on top of one of the highest buildings in the city and it now is over 550ft ASL its coverage on a handheld is mind blowing for 70cm with ranges of over 30 miles handheld use.
Height is King people.
That's cool, wonder if I can hit it from here? What's the callsign?
@andykirby the repeater is GB3CV.
Also you do know me its Craig owner of RZOC. Hope your well buddy
Ahah! No I didn't know it was you! Nice! I'm good thanks hope you are well too 👍🏼
@@andykirbyyeah all good matey like you getting back into Ham radio alot more and enjoying it along the way.
Cheers mate! Yep it's been fun, plenty more to come!
Depends where you are putting it.
I need one of those poles for side of the house
I don’t agree bye
It would be a bit of a stretch to try on 144.325MHz from southern Tasmania! But I've done similar with c4fm GM to test the results of the Diamond X30N
Haha! But you might make it on 10M at the moment 😁
💙👊😎
I wouldn’t mind trying C4 but i would end up having to talk to myself as 2m is almost none existent over my way….Good little video though Andy 73’s
OK......you call that a Massive Antenna 😅😅😅
I can cover arround a radius of 230 Km, i got an 26m long Spiderbeam fiberglas pole, with an homade wireantenna for 149mhz freenet on top
Greetings from Germany👍
Awesome! You are lucky you have free net. Maybe your signals will propagate over to the UK some day during tropo!
@@andykirby on 149Mhz you got no Qrm. it has become CB 2.0 over here. i did go so far and modded an 145Mhz EME Antenna for 149Mhz. i go and send you an link to my HP via your youtube adress
What in the mobile coffin are you driving?
Is that a diamond 2m base antenna andy.
Bob g0fae
We all know Its not how big the antenna is sigh ... it is the proper application of swr grease that matters.
Try pmr we are told 500m and that so home made antenna for the base and home made on car got the measurements from tm1 and my you bro has a pmr antenna a base antenna and he is the wrong side of the hill as the crow flyes 15m and we talk every day its not line of sight so were having fun. I am a ham but i hate 2m and repeaters.
just go to vw. no robot voice
