It is great to see people actually using radio for what it was intended for and having fun in the process. Keep up the experimentation it is good to see.
Thanks mate 👍🏼 appreciate the comment.
❤
The reason I love your channel Gareth and still binge them all from time to time!
Great video Andy. Interesting stuff. I bet people thought you were undercover lol
2 legends, same video, what a bargain
Radio Amateur, CB, Pmr, pirate stations, its all beautifully blending together huh. I love the "art"(antennas-transmtters).
I've got an old school panasonic marine band transceiver, used to sit in the office overlooking the Mersey with it scanning.
It was so cool to hear all the ship captains and dock pilots chatting away as they steered the tankers in and out.
I know that it's 6 months ago But loved it ANDY.AND YOUR MUSIC BANGING,PS LOVE THE E, BIKE CAN'T WAIT.TAKE CARE.ALAN CT/48/70 ☠️💯👍
Haha "FM band scan, for the pirates" :) thanks!
Excellent presentation, and stellar photography. Thanks.
Great Video Andy! Just love your enthusiasm for everything to do with radio!! Yours and Lewis's videos are always a great watch 👍 GB3OY really does have an amazing coverage and is very strong (can open with a handheld) at my location on the borders of SE London/Surrey (approx 25 miles from the repeater), will listen out for you!.....73's
Another interesting video, many thanks to you both,
Great video, nice to see people out with handsets using them for comms and london has so many things to interfere. My inlaws live there and seems radio is often busy. I do like the Bluetooth feature with the icom, makes me want to get the 52E now 😂 keep up these experiments been a handheld fan i love seeing this stuff!
That lift is like something out of Willy Wonka!! 😂😂 Great video Andy, surprised you didn't get busted by British Transport Police for impersonating them on the train 😂😂😂😉
your videos are always cool cheers Andy
Now I want to go to Battersea and test myself , great music mate 👍🏽
Woow, my 2 best UA-cam channels collab! :)
🙌🏻😁
Great video 😊
Excellent Andy, hope to meet up with you and Lewis sometime.

This is what radio is all about !🎉
You shuld try one of those Millitary folding antennas, they are araound 140cm long and lithweigt.
Normal Rubberduck antennas are Dummyloads compered to them. its strong like an Mobile Antenna on an Portable.
Greetings from Germany😎
The Signal Stick is also really good compared to a stock antenna and if you couple that with a counterpoise wire you'd be unstoppable
Looks like you had a amazing day good to see you dodgy pair together
nice one lads & YL....i need an ID-52 Rog!
Waiting for Lewis;s version, now!
Next one from the top of the Shard, Andy!
Ha, I heard you mention Hertford...I'm in Baldock, found your channel and now have 2 Quangsheng jobbies on route, a k5 (for £13.36 delivered) and a K6, £20.42. I had to try the k5 at that price...will see if i can work these things out and pick you up.
Pretty impressive that a relatively modest 109 metres or 360 feet elevation let an HT with a helical antenna on a UHF frequency clear 16 miles of dense urban sprawl into Hertfordshire.
Down at ground level you would barely get a few streets away before the signal faded.
I thought he meant operating on the 109 meters band = 2.75 MHz. ha-ha What's the actual operating frequency he's using in this video (433.550 MHz) and that really only travels only a couple of blocks at ground level?
Wow, the Icom name brings back some great memories from the late 1980's in New York city using a couple of their classic hand held transceivers while riding bicycles with my friends. As silly teenagers we have shamelessly keyed over 144.xxx MHz repeaters in the NYC and of course got cussed out for it. hehe
Enjoying a couple of Sapporo beers one evening in Hong Kong back in 1986 and had a delightful QSO with U2MIR who was crossing the China/Burmese border in Low Earth Orbit - about 1100 miles - not bad for 2M!!
Nice radio.
Andy, why does your scope look different on the icom? With the frequency edges showing in numbers? Great experiment! Thanks for the videos
I can say that, from 2700 feet AGL in a glider, I made a 95 mile contact with my ID-51 on 446.0 MHz. I haven't done it, but people routinely talk to the ISS from their handhelds and mobiles.
A good day on the handies
Andy. First of all enjoy your stuff. Andy mate any chance you could do a video on passive radiator speakers? The passive should be bigger than the active plus box sizes, tuning ect. Thanks in advance mate
Nice video Andy - You guys should have tried some simplex D-star too with that radio. That would have been good too
Yeah we should have done, it might have helped us find each other with the GPS location features😁
@@andykirby yes the bit finding each other… I’m glad that both of your XYLs support you two both with the hobby…. From across the pond - we really enjoy your and Lewis’ videos
Nice! What was that mobile radio at the end?
Double duplex trouble !
Up the top of the Walkie talkie building when next time in London ?
Brilliant video, love how good the ID52 is performing. What’s the headset you’re using I gotta get me one of those for my ID52!!
It's the icom VS-3
Yes 👍🏼
I live in a multi story block and have a GP-1 out my window. I can speak to NI stations from Clydebank, Glasgow. MM7DCD
Nice!!!
I love what you and Lewis are doing. You are making radio cool again. David M7CZM
Another good place is to do the tour of St Paul’s Cathedral in London and you can go right to the top and out onto the roof.
Great video Rog!
An excellent idea to repurpose the old chimney stack with an observation elevation deck.
And yeah thanks for making me want an ID-52 as well!
Andy. Build a car sub woofer cabinet using passive radiators please
Andy Rogabeee and Lewis Rodgway
What are you using to wirelessly operate the HT and capture both sides of the audio to use in the video?
The ID52 has a built in recorder that records the QSO as a wave file on the SD card. The microphone is the icom VS-3, Icom is leading the way with some of the features they have these days.
Oh ya it's high band uhf cool
What Bluetooth device are you using
Andy, what's that Bluetooth device you use with the ID-52 ?
It's the icom VS-3
I got seriously positive audio reports on HF with my Vs3 on the 705 😂
You should have taken a drone to get some close up footage of you from outside the pod.
FM ?
Brilliant, and Chelsea pensioner, cool.
I’m sure I heard you call either on s20 or a 2M repeater. I bet M1DDE doesn’t get many contacts being where he is on 2M, certainly not heard him
Your neighbours must think your in mi5 sneaking around radio in hand
🤣
Every bri-ish bloke on a radio sounds like Captain Price.
No inflatable pig up there?
Metres. just saying.
The pink Floyd power house
By the way that's the most beautiful building
Animals, yes yes yes
It's metres, not meters. A meter is a device used for measuring. A metre is the unit of measurement.
I'm American!
I did not know that ... I have never heard anyone say anything else then 1m is One Meter... lol, metre I never heard of.
that must be one heck of a wife to put up with 🚮 like that.
And you came to that conclusion how? how do you know it's his Wife?
@@photosbycharles9880 because it appears pointless & weak minded for an adult to run around with a handheld device to talk to stranges for no apparent reason. that lady walks with him nevertheless, why would she if she isnt his wife, so i would assume she is. why do you even ask why i come to that conclusion when the pointlesness as said is so obvious or are these two like undercover agents or doing some other business you say ?
@@DonauweIIe I'm confused on your mindset, You're watching a radio video but don't understand the idea of Contacts at all?
You hardly understand the idea of relationships by the sounds of it as well, If she didn't like him being a techy and enjoying a widely accepted hobby you think she'd stick around?
@@photosbycharles9880 your idea of making those "contacts" is like you would keep opening & closing the door of your fridge to check whether the lightbulb inside is still working. the lady is not sticking around because the likes him beeing a techy but nevetheless. its pointless. bye.
Ppfft !
Rog. Don’t be like that
@@RingwayManchester 😂
Always like watching your vids Andy, but I got to say your missus is a lot better looking than you. 73
I’ve always wanted to work from the top of towers etc I wouldn’t worry about signal strength sounded like 30/9 an a definite r5 nice work..
It made me laugh when you walked through a shopping centre chatting on your radio and nobody even blinked an eye 😂😂😂
De M6dnu/26ct4494 73’s
It is funny, literally nobody bats an eyelid up there.🤣
