- Use this USB-C PD charging cable from Amazon to charge and/or operate your Yaesu FT70, FT3 and FT5 with normal chargers and battery banks.
WARNING: Do NOT use a 20V+ charger with this cable to charge your Yaesu HT. The FT70, FT3 and FT5 have a maximum charging voltage of 16V. Use a 12V PD charger for this. Do NOT use a 20V+ charger.

Thanks for properly covering this and explaining the potential for damage. The original video never addressed this, and I felt like it should have been taken down and revised after I (along with a few others) commented with this critical information.
It's also worth saying that there *are* some cables that are actually designed to limit the voltage by properly signaling the charger to provide *up to* the voltage that the cable requests. For example, a cable designed to request 12V won't get 20. But some USB-C chargers don't offer all voltages. For example, I have one that offers 9V, 15V, and 20V, and if used with that cable it will supply 9V to the barrel jack.
Basically, it's complicated, and always test with the *specific* cable/charger combination you're using before using it on anything.
This is awesome!!
Good info thanks

That Ape guy is a smart Feller, good video!
Awesome work man! Plus bonus points for the Strider 👍
Thanks for the video. Got the charger and cable @TheSmokinApe recommended. Was great to see you run through the other chargers and why it's important to verify the voltage. Curios though what meter are you using?

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe you can charge an FT70 through the USB port as well
The ENEGON 10000mAh Power Bank Fast Charging 12V/1.65A(PD 20W Max) is not available and I was wondering if you could recommend an alternate? Great video! Thanks!
Thanks very much for the warning. Is there a smarter cable that can negotiate a maximum voltage so it’s safer to use with random chargers/batteries in an emergency situation?
Hey there, I just purchased the cable and usb adapter in the links but I am only getting 5v not 12v. Am I doing something wrong?
Same here. I tried a few usb-c chargers I had, and was only able to get 5V as well.... Bad cable?
Where can we get info on your meter with usb c

Sorry, I don't see the advantage.
