wonderful. love it. thanks for sharing. look foward to seeing more your videos
Thank you for sharing this video, and for making it clear and concise with no unnecessary gonzo camera work, or annoying too loud music obscuring what your saying ! This was great!
Susan Schmitz I’m glad that you found it useful!
Great Video. It answered a lot of questions I had. Thank you again for Sharing. These videos are always a big help.
Victor Pichardo hey Victor, I’m glad you found it helpful! If there is any other parts that need more explanation, let me know.
Grear video, thanks for sharing!
Jenny CKLASER I’m glad that you found it useful.
Thank you for the share this was a great help.
You’re welcome.
Thank you , very informative
I'm glad I could help.
looks awesome
Parkhead Workshop thank you!
Great Job!
Thank you!
Thanks
Thank you for helping me towards achieving my dreams
Glad I could help!
Great video!
Thank you!
Real nice video. I was real curious how these were etched.
Thanks for watching!
love it.
thanks
youngtonny I’m glad that you found it useful.
A caliper for the diameter times pi would do even more secure. And I agree with Susan Schmidt
hans pijpers yes it would. I need to get a new one.
thanks for the tutorial, great video. i do the same things you do but my yeti rotates 180 to start engraving. how can i make it start from the side im puting my mug
Marcelo Delgado you would have to put the artwork all the way at the top of the artboard. That method can be trickier to align and actually center. I do the 180 turn because I find it easier to control placement.
A great video looking forward to future postings... What software are you using? Did not recognized the logo...
Hector Munoz I’m using Adobe Illustrator.
Thanks for the video and great info! Do you have a good supply place for these mugs?
Not for Yeti. JP Plus and JDS have generic not branded mugs.
Great Video.
Where can I find the Same Rotary Axis and is it gonna fit any Laser Engraving Machine?
Thank you.
Victor VALANEJAD sometimes you can find them on eBay but I bought mine from my laser manufacturer. I’d suggest looking at the manufacturer who made your laser.
Thanks for the video! Laser cutters can also cut acrylic sheets. Do you think it is possible to cut an acrylic tube using the same technique shown in the video?
Ebrahim Badkoubi I’ve never tried to cut tube. It could be possible.
I think the laser engraver I have access to is also an M2 40. What settings did you use as far as speed, power, and frequency? Great video btw.
I'd have to double check. I think it was 90 speed, 75 power, but I can't recall the frequency. Maybe 20-30%.
Great video, thank you. Do you have advice on engraving both sides of the 30 oz Yeti centered above the embossed and engraved logo without manually setting it up twice?
You’ll have to put one logo at the top of the file and the other on the bottom where it would land 180 degrees apart.
@@MakerExperiment Thank you so much for your reply. I've done that - but it hasn't lined up in my experiments. I've tried centre/centre + a number of other things, but it turns the cup instead of starting where I want it to. What am I overlooking? Using an Epilog + Corel Draw.
How do you get a tapered object, like that tumbler, to be level before engraving? Also, do you tend to weigh down your item? I've seen some other tutorials where they put a beanbag or something to make the item heavier.
It depends on the item. Sometimes I weigh them down. There’s a way to level the mug as best as possible with an adjustable right hand side to my attachment.
Hi, I have an epilog fusion 24, 60 watts, and for some reason when I engrave it won't go deep enough to remove everything on the first pass? I have a brand new machine, settings are 100 power, 600 dpi, and speed I tried 80% all the way down to 55% and also tried higher DPI, not sure why but it just won't remove all the paint? For example on a red tumbler it leaves the cutout part looking more pink than silver, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Have you cleaned the mug using something like LA’s totally awesome cleaner? May want to check your mirror alignment.
Muy buena quema de laser!
Richard Engstrom I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
In your image the white part of your logo is it transparent or does the machine and software recognize the white as a non engravable area or blank space?
Luis Maymi the machine recognizes the white as blank space that is not engraveable. It’s actually just the blank artboard and not a white fill.
Thank you for your wonderful video. I like it. Do I know what applications did you use for this engraving?
Ka Issue I used Adobe Illustrator for the design and the epilog software to send it to the laser.
@@MakerExperiment Thank you for the quick response. May I know what other applications can I used for engraving machine?
Ka Issue for vector software you can use affinity, illustrator, Inkscape, or coreldraw. As far as laser software, it depends on your machine. Some manufacturers have their own drivers. Most Chinese machines can use lightburn.
I hope you can answer this question. But I am interested in starting some sort of business as this, but have questions on the laser mostly concerned with pricing. What should one expect to pay (price range is ok), for a good quality laser engraver to get consistent results that’s powerful enough to engrave through numerous materials? Is the software only PC based, or is it Mac friendly too? I really want to learn, so would appreciate any resources you would have. I’m located in Fort Wayne, IN (in case you have any suggestions based off of locale). Thanks in advance man, great information presented!
Austin Stroot I’ve seen people get my with imported machines from China. A lot of it will depend on your budget, what you want to do, and how often you want to mess with it. I did another video called 10 things to think about when buying a laser. That video may be helpful.
here is a tip. You can drag the GUIDE line and drop it at "ZERO". Then right-click --> transform --> Move and then enter your horizontal or vertical distance you want to move. Also, if you go to the upper left corner of the workspace, in his example look for the file name "Horizon 30 ounce........." Right below the "H" in that corner, if you put your mouse there and RIGHT-CLICK the mouse....you can change the UNITS you want to show...px, pt, in, mm etc.
Thank you for the tip! I always learn something new.
Very nice video, can you tell me what type of lasrer you are using? I see it is an Epilog, but I dont know a lot about lasers. Basically I am looking for the cheapest quality option to engrave yeti type bottles
This one is an Epilog Fusion M2 40. Epilog is great quality but it won’t be your cheapest option.
I am trying to laser engrave some yeti tumblers but either get burn residue or some remaining color residue on them. I have a 60watt laser and have tried different speeds but kept 100% power. I have used dish soap, lighter fluid, goo gone, etc. but nothing removes the residue.
Do you think my problem is not using the ZEP or magic eraser products?
As long as you got through all of the powder coating, using something like Zep or LA’s Totally Awesome cleaner and it should get rid of any residue. The other stuff you mentioned I’ve tried but never got great results.
I am currently looking for an engraver for the same purpose, stainless acrylic covered mugs, what do you have and what would you suggest?
I have an Epilog machine. It depends on your budget as to what I’d recommend. The Epilog Zing 24 is a good starter if you want an Epilog machine. I currently have an Epilog Fusion Edge and an Epilog Fusion M2 40.
what software do you for this ? Thank you for sharing this great video !
I use Illustrator for design and the Epilog software.
Awesome video! Do you clean the engraving afterwards? If you do, what do you use to clean them? They look sharp!
Aldo Redaelli yes I do. I use ZEP 505. My latest video actually has the tools and supplies that I use for laser work.
Thanks. I will look for it. I can’t get that kind of shine on mine. I will also look for your latest videos on this. Thanks!
@@MakerExperiment does the Zep 505 discolor the remaining powder coating? I've tried goo-gone before and found that it cleans the engraving but discolors the area around it where the goo-gone gets on the remaining powder coating. I also found that goo-gone leaves a residue that shows up when the tumbler goes in the dishwasher. hoping zep505 avoids these issues?
@@woolrabbit it won’t discolor. You can also try LA’s Totally Awesome Cleaner. It works well.
Thank you for sharing this what type of laser is this
This one is an Epilog Fusion M2 40.
Is it possible to engrave 2 different grains to give the appearance of color shades to show detail?
You could try using grey scale engraving to do that. I haven’t personally tried it on a mug.
Do you have a tutorial for engraving on glass hurricane candle holders, 360 degrees art work covering the entire cylinder? Thanks
I don’t at this time.
how do you know how to place the mug in the machine to make sure your logo ends up exactly where it is meant to be on the mug ie centered above the yeti logo?
neyesass1 I design the file so that the engraving is centered in the art board. Then I place the yeti mug with the opposite side logo facing up. That way it will rotate 180 degrees. That’s how I line it up.
Maker Experiment k that’s what I figured
Does this also work on mugs with a colored or plastic outside?
(Like the Nomad Travel Mug from Nespresso)
Colored powder coating or finish yes. If it’s plastic it won’t engrave well.
Great video. What other brand would you recommend for starters? I'm looking to engrave 12oz stainless steel mugs. Something what will do the job but it's on the cheaper side. I was looking at glowforge or dremel but from my understanding you can't do mugs and bottles. Thanks a lot.
You’re correct. Those two machines cannot do mugs. Try looking into boss or thunder laser.
Great Video Brother, what kind of engraver is that that you are using. I want to start a business on the side while in the military. This would be perfect!
This is the Epilog Fusion M2 40. It’s a bit overkill for just mugs. I’d recommend the Epilog Fusion Edge 12 if you don’t need a large bed. Feel free to ask questions.
Do you need to use cermark on yetis?
david Cockcroft not if they’re already coated with colors. Cermark is really only needed for stainless steel or uncoated metals. Anything that’s anodized or powder coated shouldn’t require it.
hi can you help me at a tutorial with this machine for embossing/graving into tiles, bathroom to floortiles, thank you
I’ve never done anything like that so I’m not sure where to start to be honest.
What laser engraver/cutter would u recommend? Thanks
Hondo it depends on what you’re wanting to make. I’d do some research if machines you like and see what will do what you want.
Hello Trevor,
I'm planning on engraving on my yeti using my university's laser (Epilog Fusion M2 - 60 Watt), and I'm thinking about going at it with 100% power and 50% speed. In a reply to another commentor, you mention doing 75% power 90% speed on your 40 watt Epilog; do you think there would be any problems with using the higher power or lower speed?
Less power may not be able to etch through the coat, but I can't imagine using more power would cause any issues since 60 watts still isn't powerful enough damage or penetrate the steel. If you don't mind me asking, what is your opinion on this?
May Greene I used my epilog fusion which is a 60 watt as well. I usually run at 75% speed and somewhere between 90-100% power. The 100% power wouldn’t be an issue but I wouldn’t go down to 50% speed. You shouldn’t need to go that low.
@@MakerExperiment Thanks for the insight :D
How did you know where to place you rotary roller within the engraving field to make sure you were aligned?
By measuring the cup in relation to the laser.
Where do you. buy the yetis in bulk?
I don’t. You’d have to know a dealer.
Hi what is the name of the design software you use.
I use Adobe Illustrator.
What watt is your machine? When I engrave them I seem to have a lot of residue left behind that's hard to get off. Any suggestions?
Tim Flynn my machine is 60 watts. Try using ZEP 505 to clean the mug after engraving.
Tim Flynn,we have engraving machine with no residue and don’t need clean.
Could you do a tutorial for a Stanley, like a full wrap design?
I’ve never actually done a full wrap so that’s something I’d have to learn first.
do you charge per minute of laser engraving or just estimate per cup? i'm interested in doing this and trying to figure out how to price t hings.
2004 CR85R per cup. Per minute would vary too much and customers will wonder why one design was one price and another design was slightly more. It’ll all average out of you set the right price.
Charge per minute. Round up. Most jobs take 3 minutes. Folks are changing between $1-4 per minute. Remember time and equipment are both valuable.
Nelson Caraballo I don’t disagree for most other jobs. Mugs is the only place I charge per mug.
what kind of epilog you have? im deciding whether I should get the epilog or the glowforge
Mirna Montano I have the fusion M2 40. The Glowforge cannot engrave mugs if that’s what you want. If you need a contact at Epilog, let me know.
Maker Experiment thank you
what machine and accessories are you using , if you were to upgrade what machine would you get ?
This machine is an Epilog Fusion M2 40 with the rim style rotary attachment. If I were to upgrade, I’d get the Epilog Fusion Pro 48 to be able to do large signs. If you have any questions feel free to let me know.
What make and model was the laser engraving machine
Rick this is an Epilog Fusion M2 40.
What is the best way to line up the logo with the image you will be burning?
Other than doing it visually, you can actually use the center center engraving method and put a mark on the mug exactly where the center of the logo should be and line the laser up with it.
My laser is a 45 watt...do I need to slow the speed or use more frequency for a clean engraving?
Gale Shadle it kind of depends on the machine as far as the settings that you need. If you’re finding it difficult to penetrate the colored coating, you may need to either increase the power or decrease the speed. The frequency is probably not an issue.
We have a Helix 50 watt. We run our cups at 100 power/13 speed. Good luck.
@@nelsoncaraballo9446 We are fixing to run a few on a Helix 45W. Is 13 the fastest you can go with yours (with good results)? Seems really slow
What machine is used to etch?
I used an Epilog Fusion M2 40 CO2 laser.
What software are you using
I use Adobe illustrator.
hey what kind of laser engraver are you using and how much does it cost
This is an Epilog Fusion M2 40. It's between $20-30K. It's mainly to do larger items. For engraving mugs, the Epilog Zing 24 is a good starter machine. You can find out more here: www.epiloglaser.com/maker-experiment/
How much does a machine like your cost? And any suggestions on machine that I can get for just hobbies
What’s your budget? This machine was around $28k but it’s an industrial machine.
Hey, I was just wondering what some of the values in the engraving you did were (DPI, raster power %, raster speed %, etc)? Thank you, and nice cups!
It’s about 100% power, 65% speed, 400 DPI.
@@MakerExperiment Sounds good, thank you very much!
@@maxxberry5510 you’re welcome
What settings did you use for the print? Intensity, speed, etc?
Thank you!!
Heidi Chamberlain I usually use 75% speed, 100% power and 400 DPI on YETI mugs. Some brands are slightly different. This is for a 60 watt machine.
@@MakerExperiment You're amazing! Thank you so much!
Heidi Chamberlain you’re welcome
What rotory are you using?
Bow Pro it’s the one that Epilog sells.
Hi, is it possible that the laser leaves a mirror like finish? Can laser engraving do that? thanks for your reply!
Paulievr1986 it leaves a stainless finish. You can clean it well and it will shine but I don’t know that I’d call it mirror finish.
@@MakerExperiment ua-cam.com/video/P-dP6cluozM/v-deo.html I saw that mirror like engraving on this limited run knife blade with a black coat... I was curious how they could achieve it? Maybe they polished it after that somehow not touching the black coat...
Just came across your video it was so helpful me and the wife are looking at adding this to our business can you help me with what exactly is this is it a co2 laser or a fiber laser are you what they call engraving or marking it I’m interested in the powder coated cups with logos but some ppl might just want plain stainless can you help me with the machine I may need to look at thank you so much
tiwebb1974 I’m using a CO2 laser to engrave the mugs. It can do powder coated and stainless. You just need a special spray for stainless.
@@MakerExperiment thank you so much can u recommend a laser machine that would be a good start up for just stainless / powder coated yetis 20/30 oz
Thank you
tiwebb1974 I’d recommend the Epilog Zing 24.
What is the machine make and model?
This is the Epilog Fusion M2 40 as a 60 watt.
What kind of engraver are you using?
MR Properties I’m using an Epilog Fusion M2 40.
Could you do a video on art prep in AI for a sloped yeti or pint glass please? Thanks much!
Do you have a specific one in mind?
What wattage is your M3 Fusion 40? Did you sell this laser for the new Epilog?
It’s the Fusion M2 40 as a 60 watt. I haven’t sold it yet.
This may be a really stupid question... but for doing cups do I want my images to be vector or raster?
You can use either as long as the raster image is high quality.
Does it work with plastic cups like tumblers ?
Unless they’re a cast acrylic cup, it probably won’t look good. You have to make sure the plastic doesn’t contain any hazardous materials as well.
What engraver are you using?
chuno ramos I’m using an Epilog Fusion M2 40.
What is the machine you used in the video?
Kristi Ellinwood I used an Epilog Fusion M2 40.
what is the brand and model of your engraver? Can this engraver make deep engraving on wood?
This is the Epilog Fusion M2 40. It can if you run enough passes at the right settings.
Can you engrave other items or is this machine just for yeti cups?
It can engrave and cut a ton of things. It’s not just for Yeti cups.
What kind of laser do you use
I use an Epilog Fusion M2 and an Epilog Fusion Edge 12.
What model engraver is it you are using?
The Epilog Fusion M2 40
Great work, which machine did you use?

Maker Experiment
C02? Fiber?
What machine do you use to Laser

Hello
The company that I work for, just bought a laser engraver (Dominator).
I have been using it, etching part number on metals
I have been using it for myself without proper training and I have etching clear coffee mugs but sometimes they don’t come out the way I want to
What do you guys suggest for me to learn on how to do it?
I’m not sure what that laser is but I think it’s a galvo laser. I don’t know enough about those to offer advice. I’d try to research the type of laser it is with that specific material.
What the name of the roller
It’s the Epilog rim style rotary.
Thanks for sharing! How would I get the design on the opposite side?
You can rotate the cup itself or set up the design to have an image on each side. Just depends on what you’re trying to do.
Trying to have a design on each side. I am able to do the first design, but not sure how to get another design on the opposite side.
@@kayla6628 you could either send them over as separate jobs which honestly is the easiest to setup or you can put both in the design and space them apart the correct circumferential distance to land 180 degrees apart.
Can this machine be used to engrave tumblers?
Yes.
excellent video however we must rotate the artwork 90 degrees before engraving ?
terry jones the rotary attachment is set 90 degrees from the normal engraving. So yes, you have to rotate the artwork to get it to show correctly on the mug.
@@MakerExperiment thankyou
Great info! I am looking at starting a side business doing laser engraving and eventually expanding when I retire from my career in 10 months. What would be a good machine set up for starting out that you would recommend?
If you’re starting out I’d recommend the Epilog Zing 24 or the Epilog Fusion Edge 12.
Awesome Video! Just to confirm you used no cermark or other agent for the black YETI mugs. These were coated mugs so the machine just lasered it away leaving the natural stainless steel?
That is correct.
@@MakerExperiment I'm very new to engraving and have a VERY consumer level Atomstack a5 pro. How did you get it to just engrave the black away without just burning and making the logo black as well. Is this a setting issue or an engraver model limitation?
@@daviderin once you engrave it you will have to clean it with something like LA’s Totally Awesome Cleaner or Blu to get rid of the remaining residue. If you still have powder coating left, chances are your power was too low or speed was too high.
@@MakerExperiment thank you for the tip. Great video.
Hello, I would like to buy this machine to print my Mugs that I have myself and I would like to personalize them, thank you in advance for help
Epilog sells them. You can contact them about it if you’re interested in buying one.
I fail to c why this takes up up to a month to receive products ? When ordering thru yeti .
Suppliers across the board have been taking much longer than normal.
I just bought a Beamo laser printer and I bought the rotary add on, but I can't get the tumbler to lay flat on it, for one and the head is too low on the laser, how do I get it to come up and on top of the Yeti. I can't find any videos for this particular laser.
Adrienne Mignano I’m not really familiar with the Beamo. From my quick research it’s a 6-7” depth machine, of which at least half is probably the machining head height. I think you’d be very limited on what mugs you could do because of that height. Again, I don’t have experience with it, but I feel like you’re going to have a diameter limit that you’ll hit.
@@MakerExperiment According to them, I can do up to a 30 ounce tumbler. I've figured out how to get it to lay flat in there on the rollers, but it doesn't seem like the rollers are turning. There really are no tutorials out there to figure this stuff out!! Thanks for your reply.
Adrienne Mignano is call them for support. I’m sorry I can’t be more help.
I’m looking at getting a laser machine to start a business. Do you have any regrets about the machine you bought? Do you wish you would have purchased a bigger machine, larger laser, etc? What thickness of wood does this cut? Does it have a pass through feature for larger items?
I don't have any regrets about the machine that I bought. I will always want a larger machine but the larger machines were out of my price range for a brand that I trusted. This one cuts 1/4" easy and it's supposed to cut up to 3/8" but I haven't tried. This particular machine does not have pass through.
Awesome video. I’ve been looking around at what this machine costs and found one on eBay for 16k. Is that what you paid for this?
KwRaIlSb mine was more than that but I bought it direct from the manufacturer.
Does this machine only work with metal ?
The machine is a CO2 laser. It works with a ton of different materials. Not just metals.
What machine do you use ?
I have the Epilog Fusion M2 40. You can find out more here: epiloglaser.com/maker-experiment
What about mugs with handles?
It depends on the type of handle. Next time I do one, ill try to make a video.
To remove colour residue, use a MAGIC ERASER...and cleans right up if no ZEP products.
That’s true. You can also use LA’s totally awesome cleaner.
what was the settings for speed power and frequency?
The power was 100%. Speed was around 40-50% and frequency didn’t matter. For engraving that doesn’t really come into play.
@@MakerExperiment thank you! We have co/fiber 60/30 but the presettings did not work for our first test and left a little bit on the cup so going to test with CO2 this time instead of the preset that put it into fiber.
@@officalGlitchlab make sure you also clean the cup off with a cleaner like LA’s Totally Awesome Cleaner or there will also be a little residue.
If you want to engrave on a natural finish (not powdercoat) does this need a more powerful engraving system?
You’d have to either use a fiber laser or a spray like enduramark or cermark.
@@MakerExperiment cool, thanks!
What machine was this?
Reed’s digging it it’s the Epilog Fusion M2 40.
Thanks for sharing but is it possible to put a picture?
I have pictures on my Instagram @makerexperiment
How do you figure out your steps per rotation on different cups?
You need to measure the circumference of the cup side that will be touching the drive wheels.
@@MakerExperiment but then do you also need to change the steps after altering the circumference in the rotary set up?
@@cranklab4937 you would need to change the height of your art board to account for that change in circumference.
What power/speed/freq did you run your machine at?
TURTLE5131 I used 100 power 77 speed. I can’t recall the frequency but it was probably 25-30 out of 100
