Whenever Fishers shop comments on Gunflint, or vice versa, I get the chills.. Like I'm part of the cool kids club cause I've had direct messages from both of them....
Imma be honest, I just want to see more consistent content from you. I really like your videos and your delivery of information. Thanks for the content!
Same as other UA-cam vids, I like to pop in and check out the info. Presentation will keep me coming back. I’ve been watching you for sometime now(woodworking) and enjoy your vids. I’m relatively new to laser work and am trying to gain some insight. Thx for the vid.
I have a Boss LS1420. Lightburn is great. Been using it since the beginning. The Rotoboss is an exceptional product. I've used it a lot as well. I'm a hobbiest so all my creations go to friends and family.
Pretty cool set up Mark. I can see that being really fast and repeatable for jobs like that. Would love to see more laser work on wood projects and the setup process for those.
I'm really interested in this topic. Great job explaining everything! I'm in the middle of building my own laser cutter and hope you do some rotary engraving some day
The whole video was great, but I think I loved your outro best. Felt very much like podcast-Mark's banter. I was committed to watching you rebuild that Casita camper even though I have no interest in such things myself, so I'm guessing I'm pretty much a hardcore fan who isn't going to be put off by however you present the laser stuff. Sadly, I think the opinions of your more casual viewer is going to be more important than my opinion. Seriously, though...I'd watch a video of you making your jerky and sausage just because I like the way you present things and I think you do a good job of editing out the fluffy while keeping in the subtle humor.
Aw shucks, I really appreciate that! You might get your wish on the sausage and jerky thing - after that goose hunt I have plenty of meat to be making something out of!
Looking at Rotoboss, and PIBURN LASER ROTARY ATTACHMENT 4.0. These are the only two I have come across that offer more flexibility when you need to engrave certain glassware, bottles.
Excellent presentation, Thank you for the clear demonstration, please my challenge is setting the focus right within the diameter of Tumbler..... I just need set up parameters. I am new to engraving on mugs and tumblers. Thank you
nice we have a 130 watt omtech in shop but im looking at a monport100 watt laser cutter and getting the y axis your vidoe is great im a newbee the omtech is a budy of mine im still learning my shopsabre 23
Mark, excellent content as always. As for suggestions: definitely keep the laser in your videos. Lets be honest, most of us will not have a laser quite as large as yours to start out, so specific settings are not a huge concern here. But how you incorporate the laser into your projects and the options for customization would be excellent. Your description of the booth you setup at the show was very interesting and some content on here showing that would be awesome. It's the hybrid approach that I'm shooting for: woodworking, lathe, laser, and ideas on how to mesh them together better. Well done!
That's completely different to the normal videos - but loved it - found the whole thing very interesting and would like to see more laser engraving. (as long as we still get the other ones too)
Nice video. Appreciate the useful tips and your process. I recently just tried my first rotary with these same tumblers and am having difficulty leveling the product with the sculpfun rotary. Need a good proof to land a potential customer
@@GunflintDesigns Mark, if you ever want to do a comparison between the XTool machine and your big beast let me know and I can bring mine down. Might make for some interesting comparisons.
Could you mention the wattage of laser you are using, and if engraving stainless steel tumblers what marking spray and speed, power and scan gap settings for those tumblers as well
Outstanding video. I purchased a 100 watt CO2 laser from China to save money (about 1/2 the cost to US), but have had to rely on youtube for how to set up and run. Have you had any experience engraving glass plating or glass tumblers? Maybe a video? Thanks.
Excellent Video! Looking around at various Co2 laser options, very impressed with setup you are using in the video. Would be very interested to learn more about unit you are using and your own thoughts having used it for some time. Great information, much appreciate!
Several questions. What is the cost of the setup you have? How long does it take to run, say 100 mugs? Isn't there an easier way to do the setup like a placement jig or something?
I'm looking at something like $11k in all my laser stuff setup. You wouldn't have to get one as big as this if you just want to to cups though. Depending on the size of the logo, its taking me between 5 and 6 minutes to laser a single cup. I intend to keep playing with my settings to see if I can get that time down even more. I'm not sure how to make the process any easier - 1) square the jig - 2) Level the cup - 3) Focus. Once you do that for the first cup, you never have to touch it again.
Good info.....Your machine has removable legs. Is it possible to disassemble the models without legs to get them through a door? What is your maximum workpiece height? Considering buying a 2028 60 or 80w
awesome video. I just started using the XTool D1 laser engraver. So far it has been an pretty good experience. Where did you buy your laser engraver? I think as my side hustle grows I might be interested in taking the plunge into something like yours.
When I plug my rotary into the laser, it is controlling the wheels of the rotary and making the cup spin when I hit the Y to go up and down so I can’t put my laser over the cup 😅 What in the world am I doing wrong?
I’ve been thinking about getting in to laser work for a while now, partly inspired by your conversations on the subject over at WBAT. Will that rotary work with other brands of laser? Do you have a particular laser brand you recommend?
This rotary will work with lots of others, but they do need to be the high-power co2 style. The smaller more hobbyist style that Drew has won't work with this. My machine is a Bescutter, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it because I have fought it a lot since day 1. Boss is a great brand, but a little more money. Same with Epilog.
Hi Mark, some constructive criticism here i hope you'll find useful as you usually aim for high production quality: Using what i assume is Auto-Gain on your recording device for Audio mostly creates some very irritating jumps in volume. A segment may start intensely loud and limited and then decline a good chunk until your voice is barely audible. This has been more obvious over the last year or so, i know it's kind of a safety/convenience thing but still a small advice: Rather set the gain to a lower, all-purpose setting with a simple overload protection/limiter and increase the volume & reduce your dynamics later - which will give you a consistent loudness over the duration of the entire video. Great video in itself as always! Greetings =)
Using metric made it so much easier for me to understand what you are doing. Welcome to the rest of the world. You should try using metric for everything as it makes everything so much simpler. 😉 (This is a joke btw. I know how challenging it would be to buy stock in imperial and try to use metric for everything else).
lol. I completely understand that metric is a better system. But I've spent several decades with imperial so it just comes naturally and switching would make my old man brain hurt!
@@GunflintDesigns I totally understand and get that. It's the equivalent of asking someone like me to start using imperial in every aspect of my life. Great video nonetheless. I found it quite interesting and informative.

Mark,
I love the design and the rotary. I just received my X-Tool D1 diode (similar to what Drew has), I really want a Co2 laser though!!
That X-Tool will teach you a lot about lasers and do most anything you will ever need... it'll just do it slower and smaller.

CO2 lasers can engrave glass but a fiber laser would be faster and better.
