As an old head, myself, I know it’s easy to say that when looking at today’s rap landscape, but I’m not going to act like there wasn’t a lot of phony shit/fake rappers, portraying someone else lifestyle back then too. Maybe we let them get away with it more because they objectively made better music…
what's ironic about that is I thought this song came out in the 80s. It just sounds like something from around 1988, but it came out in the 1991 😳 That may not sound like a big difference, but by 93 EVERYBODY was doing gangster rap, so these dudes had about 16-24 months after this song released to either get with the program and change their sound, or get left behind. I think we know which one happened lol
@@KoolKeithProductionsthey did pretty well for a group that went against the rap norm. They did get tons of grief from gansta rappers who called the group soft. Their second album answered their critics tenfold. It was probably their best album. Their next two album fell back to their trippy hop sound, but also did well.
Not true. Back then the rap vibe was generally the same. These guys used to get a lot of hate from other rappers because they "were not real rap." They were ahead of their time.
Man i remember hearing this song on the radio all the time in the early 90's. These dudes had their own unique style and flavor, a lot of hardcore hip hop heads didn't like them tho and called them hippies and weirdos. They were ahead of their time, this still sounds fresh even today. R.I.P to Prince Be.
Yasss this song was so cool. The sample of it is from the song “True” by Spandau. As matter of fact he is singing the hook towards the end of the video. Try their song “Die Without You” from the “Boomerang”soundtrack. It’s so pretty.
One of the BEST groups to ever do it!! This is early 90s nostalgia for me heavy...my favorite time in the 90s..I would definitely go back to that time period. Check out thier song "Die Without You" one of the best love songs ever written.
I never noticed they put the singer from Spandau Ballet on their video at the end. I never noticed it before. The sampled Spandau Ballet for the hook on this song.
I loved PM Dawn back in the day and love how they redid this song. They added 'flava' to it. Check out the original by Spandau Ballet called 'true'. The original song was from the early 1980's.
Yes young grasshopper...... this was a huge hit back in 1991. His voice was very soothing. Brings back my fun and carefree teenage years. Thanks for the memory......
"I'd Die Without You" and "Looking Through Patient Eyes" are a couple of other songs by PM Dawn you might like ... pop music in the '90's was so diverse. "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss" was a #1 hit and I believe "I'd Die Without You" was a top 5 hit, too.
Yay!!! So glad you reacted. So glad you loved it❤️❤️❤️Definite summer vibe. This song was sampled from 80's group 'Spandau Ballet' and their song called: True. If, and, when you decide to dive into the 80's, check this song out. Great reaction🔥🔥🔥👍🏾
Oh damn! I just realized this is probably what inspired "YOU" and "GIRLS AROUND THE WORLD" by Lloyd and Lil Wayne. It's def an interpolation and the melody and some of the chorus are the same and the samples are pretty obvious. I forgot about this whole era and genre of music. This song feels like palm trees 🌴☀️🌴😁
@@dfree1442 nah,I mean they didn't like the direction a group like them would turn hip hop into and how much radio play they were gettin compared to traditional hip hop...
they're from new jersey but sadly, the lead singer prince be passed away in 2016. also check out 'looking thru patient eyes' they did a george michael sample on that one.
Great reaction 🔥 PM Dawn is such an underrated group that was (dare I say) ahead of their time in the 1990s with their unique blend of Hip Hop, R & B, Soul, and Pop. I suggest you check out my favorite PM Dawn song entitled "Die Without You" (1992). This was part of the Eddie Murphy film "Boomerang" (1992). This track is absolutely beautiful and heartfelt. Definitely a song to react to
This takes me back to a kid in the 90s this song was everywhere They was ahead of their time . they even had the lead singer of the band Spandau Ballet which they sampled their song True .
PM Dawn paved the way for Rapper/singers like Lauryn Hill and Drake. They kicked down so many doors. Their influence in the music industry was quietly significant. They are truly one of the most underrated groups of all time. “I’d die without you” is without question one of the greatest live songs ever written, but their song “looking through patients eyes” is my favorite from them. The message of that song is incredibly deep and I get it on a spiritual level. Now that you’ve been introduced to PM Dawn, you should check out the early 90’s hip hop mockumentary called “Fear of black hat.” You’re at that point where I think you will get the hilarious satirical references. Edit- on second thought, you should check out “Gonna make you sweat” by C+C music factory and learn the story behind their lead singer first. This way you’ll get the funniest (controversial today) scenes in the movie.
I’m new to your channel & every song you done put on here from 70s 80s 90s I know them all. I’m glad someone in my generation (1998 baby) really listen to the same music I listen too. That’s rare & sometimes I feel like I’ve been in this world before.
I grew up in the 80s/90s and this song and "Looking through patient eyes" still punch my heart with emotions the same as they did back then. ALSO: Attrell Cordes..Rest in peace man.
I've noticed the videos come out at around 3:30pm (my time). So I have it in planned in my schedule to dip out at that time to watch at least one reaction. It will be this one. I will have to catch the other two after work.

This was a whole vibe back in the day! When rappers had swag and just chilled!
Prince Be...R.I.P.
Back when rappers were different in their own way and not trying to be somebody else but to be themselves

The white dude in the video wrote the original song (True by spandau ballet).
The white guy in the song is lead singer Tony Hadley, however the song was written by his bandmate Gary Kemp. 👍🏼
The songs contains a sample of "True" by Spandau Ballet, whose lead singer the guy underwater and singing at the end (the white dude).

Exactly why music was so relatable back then.
Each person should be themselves as individuals. We each are lit in our own way.
They’re from NJ. RIP Prince Be. They’re best song is “I’d die without you.” ✌🏽
Very talented singer
Thank you for reacting to this gem. PM Dawn stood out back then. Still sounds beautiful. RIP.
I LOVE PM Dawn ❤🎶🔥
"That's the way it goes, I guess" 🙏🏾 I just love that line in this song. Always have.
