The club weve been a part of for these decades has room for more. Shes getting there. Saw Ringo, Hagar, Loverboy, Yes, Deep Purple, Steve Miller and Bachman Turner in the 2nd half of 24. Throw in some great tribute bands too.
I also am loving the musical romp through my memories. Besides, she really can't examine most music past 1998, due to most voices being auto tuned or pitch perfected.
This one is a tearjerker - for me personally… I sang this for a friend of mine and his new bride at their wedding reception, with an 80’s style journey coverband that they had playing, bc it was their song. This was spring of 2002. Three years later, he asked me to sing it at his wife’s funeral..she died of brain cancer. I sang it a whole step down, acapella, at her grave site. Both musicians, he’s still one of my best friends to this day. He remarried, but he always brings her up to me when he hears the song somewhere and he gets a hold of me somehow and tells me about how much he loved her. HS sweethearts, they practically knew each other since 2nd grade. Then got married right after they graduated college. I know I want to cry every time I hear this song somewhere.

Hell of a first concert, lol. Raised the bar sky high from then on. Thus, i made up for lost time, once I was 18. Any concert that came around i liked, id go. If there wasn't one, I'd hang at the bars that hosted bands. I was utterly addicted to live music- and the 90's were the perfect time for that. Growing up, the question you asked new acquaintances or friends was " So, what kind of music are you into?'. Great way to get exposed to more stuff it blows my mind that many younger folks today don't have much interest in music. Wait, what??
I've commented this many times. Young people today cannot possibly comprehend the depth and breadth of music available to us in the 70's and 80's. I declined to go to see some legendary artists because they were around literally every weekend. My only regret from this period is that I didn't go to even more concerts (and we did a couple a month; I saw almost all the legendary bands). Could've done it very inexpensively; often around $10!
born in 73. this statement is so true. I had no idea just how great so many bands were at that time. sure I liked so much of the music. but never paid a lot of attention to just how good they actually were or what even made them great. the 70's and 80's were a great time to grow up.
As a roadie, I just have to say that it’s not just hard on the artists; it’s hard on the crew as well. Your family back home gets in a rhythm with you gone, and you disrupt their rhythm when you get back home. You feel like a stranger amongst the people you love, and they’ve changed and grown since you’ve last seen them…and so have you. It’s like coming home to strangers with familiar faces. *Edit* - Thank you all for your kindness, but I'm not asking for sympathy or even recognition. I just wanted to point out that the weariness of the road extends beyond the performers.
I would assume it is harder on the crew because they don't get the payoff of fame and fortune to compensate for the even longer hours and harder physical job.
At a Christmas party in 1983, at the age of 14&15, my husband Shane and I were in attendance at a townhouse apartment with 25 other teens when someone put this record on the turntable and played Faithfully. My husband was the only boy brave enough to pull me into the center of the room wrapping his strong young athletic arms around me and we kissed the first deeply romantic kiss in either of our lives. I can still see all the other kids sitting up the stairs in a row peeking through the spindles with their hands desperately grasping the spindles with both hands on each side of their face with a look of sheer awe at what they were witnessing. Everyone knew that we committed to each other for the rest of our lives and we new together that we would be together eternally and most of all Faithfully! We have continued that commitment for 41 years having 3 adult children and 5 grandkids. We love to watch your videos you explain the music exactly how we felt the music ourselves. You bring us to tears and excitement. I always say to you on the screen,”Wait for it” because I know what’s about to come and of course you get there every time. Also we are chefs and your relating music to food is exactly what we do with our menu!! It’s like a friendship of the mind! You are awesome and you bring such calmness to us especially during these tumultuous times we live in! It’s our first comment, I promise to keep it shorter next time but I just had to share our story with you.
Your story brought tears to me eyes. Beautifully written and beautiful story. So happy for you and you husband and family to have experienced this life this way. God Bless you!
Similar story for me .known my wife since I was 5 . Been married 34 years together 38 .I remember the day we so each other different and fell in love. 3 children 3 grandkids. I wouldn’t change a single thing.
I would eat at your establishment. I to am a chef. Music and food are passionate, symphonic, emotional creations to be shared and experienced. Anthony Bourdain would be proud.
I'm a retired Combat Marine, doing dishes and looking at snow outside, listening to this reaction with tears in my eyes and a smile on my face. The sadness of being away from family and also of losing people you've met along your journey is the hard part of life. If we are lucky and make it through it,the bond we have with those closest to us even more special. We all are human beings. Thank you for reinforcing that, and sharing your kindness as we listen, relate, remember and cope . Much appreciated and therapeutic.🇺🇸❤
The crazy thing about this song is this was the second time they had ever performed this song together. They recorded it once. Then they recorded it a second time and that’s the version we have. Neal Schon (the guitarist) said that Steve made the song come alive with the heart and soul he poured into it with his vocals. Truly an incredible song.
@@MarkStockman-b4j Plenty of room at the top for voices such as theirs. There's likely a lot of overlap in fan base too. Anyone who's too much of purist one way or the other just has a narrow focus. They'll mature out of it. Pavarotti is no less great for Domingo or Carreras having existed. No one will replace RJD or Steve Perry.
Not just artists. I remember when I was in the navy those 6mo. Cruises. This is such the perfect line because you have both changed, but neither of you think you have

This song was my gf's and my song and we saw them that year in Chicago. She put her head on my shoulder and held me and we made it to the 'love' stage. Since it was high school, it only lasted a year and a half, but the impact of that moment at the show has not been lost. 2 years ago, we ran into each other at an event..instead of the regular hellos or whatever, she looked at me and said "Faithfully, Journey, Chicago, 1983...it is still a memory like it happened yesterday.". I said "for me, too". And just for those few seconds as we hugged, we were 17 and 16 as it rushed back into our feels. THAT'S LIFE IMPACT!
Faithfully is a true love song. It's not about passing love, one night stands, or animal desire... it's about passionate love in the crucible of life's difficulties and the strength and faith it takes to stand the test. It's a song for romantics. A song for those who believe in love. And a song for those tender hearts who remain true to the finest thing in life.
This is Journey saying "We have the best singer." and just pushing it in your face, unapologetically. They take a letter home and bring us all into their world. Excellent pick, Elizabeth. This is "our song," my wife and I, and it brings out the emotion every time. Thank you.
"This is Journey saying "We have the best singer." and just pushing it in your face, unapologetically...." That sums it up quite well. Steve Perry isn't "one in a million"; Steve Perry is the "one and only".
@Educated2Extinction - Actually, I think Deen's voice is a little closer to Perry's voice. Journey is lucky to have both Penada and Castronovo singing at times. Listen to Deen's rendition of Mother Father.
As a former active duty U.S. Marine, I understand the sentiment of this song. Leaving family to go on prolonged deployments is gut-wrenching for everyone.
I mentioned this myself. Army. And I've sent my own family off on deployment, and welcomed him back, my father. That long road. Doesn't matter if it's from Bragg to Benning or Rucker to Kuwait. Anyway, respect and love to you, devil dog.
Former Navy here. Yes, the separation anxiety cannot be underestimated for servicemembers who've been deployed, and that also applies to the family members.
Have "Faithfully" tattooed on my side arm in honor of my beautiful hubby who died in a horrid car crash just over 2yrs years ago 🙏 He was a drumner in the Marine Corps Band 🇺🇸 Miss You Terribly Anthony 💔
Of ALL the songs that deserve an uninterrupted first listen... this is it. Wish wish wish that Elizabeth had just kicked back and absorbed this amazing ballad all the way through. Oh well.
You’re not wrong. But on the other hand, I’m absolutely floored that she pulled out the four-note motif that repeats “faithfully” through the chord changes after just ten seconds of listening. I’ve been listening to this song for 40 years and that never occurred to me.
Yeah, ... she could trim it back a bit and disturb less flow. Kind of like her earlier comment, sometimes too much analysis disrupts pure experiencing.
Steve Perry never relished the spotlight and probably hated the touring part of the industry. The fact that we have this song musically and him spilling his guts openly is a testament to the emotional side of the human condition. This song is a treasure.
@@dont_follow5777 thanks for the clarification. It seems like many in this band were just average guys behind the scenes who didn't vibe with the rock star image. Working class band.
1980 Rose Bowl July 4th. I had a date, and we watched Triumph, Aldo Nova, Blue Oyster Cult, and the iconic Steve Perry led Journey. After two encores, we headed out. The crowd roared for one final hit. These were fresh massive hits. The soundtrack of my teenage life. We got out and slightly above the stadium when they started playing this. Somehow, standing there on a hill above the stadium and no crowd noise allowed the amplified song to echo out to us. Magic. Clear. Steve Perry. Journey. Perfection. The memory of a lifetime. Hauntingly beautiful. I've listened to hundreds of reactions to this hit. You've finally found the holy grail. Welcome home. ❤❤❤
Elizabeth, it’s not just you!! I have loved this song for 41 years. This is top-shelf writing from Jonathan Cain, and as for Steve Perry-well, there’s none better. Let the tears flow! We are with you!!!
This was my song for my wife when I was on deployment. I never told her about it until after I retired and she asked why there were tears in my eyes when this song came on.
Steve's vocals rightfully get a lot of attention, but Neal's playing on the ballads, especially "Send Her My Love," are superb as well. Rick Beato called Neal's solo in that song a perfect guitar solo.
@lemmyisking9512 Indeed, both Neal and Steve Lukather from Toto have huge ballad guitar chops. Being able to draw emotion from a guitar note is just as impressive as technical speed. You can hear it in songs like Send Her My Love, or in Won't Hold You Back from Toto. Both guys are both highly regarded, and at the same time, underrated...
Ah I love Journey. Steve had absolutely one of the greatest voices in rock history. They really should be watched live imo. Mother Father live in Houston is a killer 💙
To know there will always be someone hearing this song for the 1st time makes me happy. As a kid of the 80's you can't describe how we lived through our music.
I just want to know how you have never heard this awesome classic!!??? Seriously, we didn't know how lucky we were back then to have all of this great music on the daily. Another great reaction..
Faithfully is comfortably my favorite Journey song, it is so beautiful and heartfelt and moving! Love your reaction and engagement, and no judgement about getting emotional, that is what music is supposed to do!
He's called "the Voice" ... He walked away because he realized he wasn't singing for the joy of music... Bought a motorcycle and save drove the California coast and reconnected with life. He's a nice guy
He is known as The Voice because of Bon Jovi calling him that in the 1990's. During Journey's prmie, he was NOT known as "The Voice". People seem to think this goes back to his 70's and 80's days and fans gave him that nick name. That is not true. Bon Jovi called him that and THEN Perry fans created a band wagon that everybody jumped on.
I will be married for 40 years in April. I'm only 60 years old. Yes, we got married young. It was 2 months from my wife's 19th birthday when we got married. This song holds a special place in our hearts as you can imagine we were teenagers when it was released. I get tears in my eyes every time I watch someone react to this song because I know the discovery they are going through, and I watch them "feel" this song as much as I do. When you have been with someone for more than 40 years in a committed relationship songs like this hit hard. It helps to say the things you find difficult to put into words. It reminds you of the feelings you don't consciously think about on a daily basis, but perhaps should. Steve Perry is a gift to the world, and songs like this are blessings we all need.
So true. He was at his pinnacle when his albums first hit. And within first decade of his career began tension and disruption in the band and he was done and wanted to be home with his woman and family.he took the 1980s by Storm then band was broken up. The Arnel dudes voice is cool. But nothing had impact Steve Perry's vocals 👍
Especially considering he injured his hip hiking in Hawaii (IIRC) right before they were supposed to go on tour in '96-97 after they had released the Trial By Fire comeback album. He was feeling pressured by the rest of the band to get hip surgery done ASAP so he would be ready for the tour, & he told them that it was a personal medical decision, not a band decision. That's what spurred him to leave Journey.
@@TheNightOwlKSI’ve seen documentaries about Journey and Steve Perry. Steve’s hip injury/surgery wasn’t even mentioned but his desire to control album covers and musical directions were the main theme. If someone told me Journey was in town but SP wasn’t performing, I wonder how many would attend? Nothing against the other band members/musicians or their abilities, but SP WAS Journey.
Steve Perry is one of THE greatest vocalists of all time. I feel so lucky to have seen Journey and Steve Perry in concert back in day! What a beautiful voice and the other band members were excellent as well!
I so much love experiencing this song, that I have been loving and listening to for the majority of my life, through fresh eyes. Your appreciation and analysis is making me so sentimental and love it that much more. And your enthusiasm is making me feel all the emotions and even make little tears gather in the corners of my eyes!! ❤ Thank you!
I remember the entire bus of the high school marching band singing Journey's songs to and from football games in the late 70s and early 80s. Good times. Good times. ✌️
There were two ladies I used to work with. One was from Germany, the other from Russia. Incredibly beautiful voices. I could literally have listened to them read the phone book.
Really? How many times have you listened to Traces and his three version of the Christmas album? Those did not exactly fly off the shelves. I have read this comment so many times over the past 30yrs or so, but when the time came to buy the phone book reading, not many people showed up and put their money down for it.
The song always reminds me that he is a master at his craft. It’s not just his vocal pitch. It’s the ability he has to make us feel what he is conveying. He transports us into his life. Truly amazing and I am as always, his fan…faithfully!!!
Elizabeth I've heard this song a million times and, while I always loved it, watching you experience it for the first time (honestly-HOW?) brought me to tears right along with you. ❤
Great reaction Elizabeth! Happy New Year! Nope, it's not just your pregnancy hormones (although it may contribute to it too), this song makes me tear up as well (and I can't get preggers!) Such an emotional song, both lyrically and musically - perfectly describes the road/touring life, and some of the hardship it brings! Beautiful song.
I've seen you get emotional about a particularly well executed vocal technique but watching you lean into the emotion of the song itself was special... I was crying with you (and I've heard this song thousands of times). I loved how the lyrics resonated so strongly with your personal experience and seeing the impact that connection had. A wonderful song and a gem of a video. Thank you.
I was waiting for you to get to the whoa-oh-oh part. I knew you would love it. And now you should look for a live version, because the whole crowd DOES sing along at this part, and it is pretty cool.
Steve Perry has one of the most phenomenal voices ever in music history and this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Also, you can never go wrong with Journey.
Elizabeth : 'he extended that note even higher' Steve Perry 'hold my beer'.... One of the best written songs ever... Such emotion and relatable to so many people. Beautiful
Between music, lyrics and singing, this is the most beautiful song I've ever heard. I've been a musician and singer for over 40 years and this is the one song I just can't get enough of.
I have been wanting you to cover this song since the 1st time I heard your channel. Your reaction and emotion to this song, not wanting even to analyze it, was exactly how I hoped you would react. It is my absolute favorite Journey song and in my opinion the best rock Ballad ever.
It's definitely in my top five +/- favorite ballads with Open Arms, Against All Odds, and a few others that jockey for first place depending on which one is playing. And while not saying the video is the best video ever or anything, It's a great video for the song too.
Your ability to articulate the emotions the music gives you while also highlighting technical aspects of the song is what make your reactions so great. I always learn something new from you even on a song I have heard 100s of times before. In many ways your analysis opens up the song to me in new ways.
Sadly, I wasn't that into this era of them at the time- save as a guilty pleasure. It wasn't cool amongst some of my friends... Now the older stuff, with Steve AND Greg? Most definitely! A different bunch of friends got me into that. Those records would always be played at Brad's parties. Cant listen to Anytime you want me, without instantly being there!
my father's job dragged us all over the US to the point where i never lived anywhere for longer than a couple of years. unpacking and repacking, making new friends and grieving the loss of the old ones. no sense of roots, very little sense of connectedness. your comments about moving to germany and then moving on, keeping track of friendship across hundreds and thousands of miles, all in the days before the internet, hit me where i live. i appreciate them. and i appreciate your doing this song.
Having heard you talk before about being not only a touring performer, but with some extended time abroad as well, I knew this one would bullseye you, even from just the lyrics alone. Add the music, and it’s a whole other level. And you still have a lot of vocalist joy to look forward to with Steve Perry.
I use to be a truck driver over the road for 30+ years until I got to be a local driver and I can tell you it is so very very hard on my wife. It's tough being out for a long time away from your loved ones. Being home a lot more is just a blessing to my wife and I.
My dad was a trucker, driving coast to coast. He stopped one day and said, "My kids are growing up without me." So after about 10 years of being away, he found a job close to home.
I have been waiting FOREVER for you to react to this song. The piano melody is the backbone of the song and Perry's voice is almost haunting. Also the spacing and patience is something that doesn't happen much today, as bands feel they need to hurry and fill every second with something. Pauses were big in the 70's and early 80's. Awesome job. Last note - Journey is one of those bands that is almost better live, although I'm glad that you reviewed the studio version of this song.
Lyrically the song is perfect. So many songs lack something on a second verse, but Faithfully continues the story perfectly in the second verse. Just an amazing song.
You aren’t the only one who got goose bumps listening to that - I still get them every time I hear faithfully, after more than 40 years! Not only my favorite Journey song, but my favorite song by anyone. I love that you feel the repeating notes of the music suggest faithfulness.
Took a friend to see them more than 40 years ago. It was not easy to convince her parents to let her and her younger sister travel overnight to see the show. In fact it was a major project that required my mother to chaperone the trip. We are still good friends all these years later. She still thanks me for taking her!
Gregg Rolie doesn't get enough credit for welcoming Steve into the band when he had been lead vocalist on the first three albums, which were much more blues-based hard rock recordings. The live PBS performance of "Feeling That Way/Anytime" nicely showcases the complimentary work of Gregg and Steve. Plus, Neal's hair is awesome!
@@lemmyisking9512 That had to be tough to pass the reins, but they couldn't pass up Steve. The early stuff was more progressive, so had a limited audience, but it holds up. Great musicians.
Steve Perry is the GOAT, no doubt about it. I was born in 1971. I was 10 and just beginning to discover music for myself when Journey released their Escape album, featuring Don’t Stop Believing, Open Arms and Stone in Love. What a magical time to have grown up and been exposed to some of the greatest rock music, ever! I always appreciate your openness expressiveness and genuine enthusiasm for hearing many of these songs/artists for the first time. It is truly infectious! You show a great deal of respect for artists from widely varying backgrounds and musical genres while expertly showcasing the hows and why’s behind why these performers catch our ears, and the immense craft, technique and effort that goes into crafting an amazing performance. Thank you for choosing this to add to your repertoire of reaction videos! Perfect pairing of singer and song to showcase just what has made him so incredible and beloved by his fans. Keep up the great work!
As a 63-year-old who spent most of the 1980s on the road, this one gets me every time. Early on, I could keep relationships going, but when I got married, it was even harder. I had to go work in France for a month after our first son was born. Steve's voice gets me every time on this one. The way he emotes brings back a lot of old feelings.
I have heard this song 1 million times...but I have not heard it quite the way you listened to it...I imagined that the goosebumps were long gone years ago when listening to this song but no...they were back along with the tears...you are the real deal lady....a breath of fresh air. Oh btw, Steve Perry and Journey is/are the story tellers for my life... they evoke special memories. Thank you.
“God tier” is a perfect description. Steve Perry is known as “The Voice.” He is my favorite singer of all time, and this is my favorite song. Linda Ronstadt is my favorite female singer. You’ve been crushing it on this channel lately. Thank you.
Elizabeth, you are Godsend to watch. Your expressions are wonderful and so real it makes me giddy. You are truly a lover of music. I am 68 years old and had the privilege of seeing Journey from the beginning. They are my all-time vavorit rock band! There will never be another Steve Perry!! I wish you could critique my voice some day and I also wish I could meet you in person. Thank you!
Jackson Browne's "Load Out" is another great song in the "entertainer angst" genre. He was very close to Linda Ronstadt and The Eagles back in the day.
I was in my late 20s when these guys came on the scene.. and they were EVERYWHERE until the late 80s. You almost couldn’t turn on a radio (yes - it was that long ago) without hearing them. Such great memories; Steve Perry has a magical voice… magical! 60s-70s-80s and early 90s music .. the best - perhaps because NO AUTOTUNE! ? ! Thank-you
"Mother, Father" live from Houston 1981 feels like it was performed specifically for a Charismatic Voice reaction. Even though I've never heard it on the radio (that's why it is not as well-known as the other songs), all hardcore Journey fans know that this is the song to react to. Most casual Journey fans may not know this song so it may not have been ranked number one to react to. It is Steve Perry's most challenging vocal performance. Even though this song is not my favorite, I know that this song is all about Steve Perry's pitch perfect voice on an opera like stage setting just waiting for Elizabeth to react to and maybe sometime in the future sing a duet together - that would be AWESOME!
It’s not just musicians… we veterans of the military also feel these same things… first when we lived thru it being stationed far from home and heard Journey express in song what we could not iterate on our own… this brings back so many memories and it is so joyful to watch you experience it for the first time!
Loved it when I first heard it growing up. Didn't understand the words at the time, but the emotions came through crystal clear. Never ceases to get me teared-up.

It’s the same with military families . I wish I had a dime for every time my wife said “ don’t come back and try to be in charge “

I love love. Greatest gift.
I'm pretty certain I was at that party! The BEST years as a teen....
"God tier vocals" I don't think you could have described it any better.
The Cult of Ronnie James Dio challenges the Cult of Steve Perry. 😁

Best vocal lines ever in a song, "Two strangers learn to fall in love again, I get the joy of rediscovering you". Truly, the perfect song.
Hard to beat it, but may I propose "I'm never gonna dance again, guilty feet have got no rhythm." On second thought, no, Faithfully is better!

You just brought tears to my eyes 😢. What a memory!!

How happy you must have been at both of this special moments in your life … 😊
Where in Chicago? Off the top of my head I'm thinking Rosemont Horizon, or maybe Poplar Creek, World Music Theater? Soldier Field?
Nobody cares dude.
Steve Perry's voice just absolutely soars somewhere up in the stratosphere in this song.
Thank you.
I saw Journey with Arnel Pineda a few years ago and was impressed. There is no Steve Perry but Steve Perry, but Pineda was a good replacement.
"This is Journey saying "We have the best singer." and just pushing it in your face, unapologetically...." That sums it up quite well. Steve Perry isn't "one in a million"; Steve Perry is the "one and only".
@@Educated2ExtinctionI actually prefer Pineda singing this one
@Educated2Extinction - Actually, I think Deen's voice is a little closer to Perry's voice. Journey is lucky to have both Penada and Castronovo singing at times. Listen to Deen's rendition of Mother Father.
@@msbolan I’m with you, and it’s not only for his voice, is the passion he puts into the song, no one sings with that emotion

“I get the joy of re-discovering you..” always hits hard. Amazing words.
You are right. According to me he is one of the most underrated singers of all time. No one can match his vocals
He probably didn't like the touring life (unlike Neal) although he did say he loves performing. Something he thought about often.
It's even more poignant when you learn about all the drama that was happening in his marriage around the time this song was written.
Jonathan Cain actually wrote this song about his relationship, at that time.
@@dont_follow5777 thanks for the clarification. It seems like many in this band were just average guys behind the scenes who didn't vibe with the rock star image. Working class band.
Steve Perry not only has a great voice but he sings with so much emotion and power, and you feel it in the vocals.
to me he is the GOAT of singers. just great.
💯% agree
I remember first time hearing his voice in 'we are the world' and thought: WOW! Best voice of the bunch by a mile!🤌🏼👌🏼
Steve would tell you the GOAT is Sam Cooke.
hard to argue with that one...
It's a tie between him and Roy Orbison.
I just wanted to say thank you for reacting to Journey and Steve Perry. Such an amazing talent.
Elizabeth, it’s not just you!! I have loved this song for 41 years. This is top-shelf writing from Jonathan Cain, and as for Steve Perry-well, there’s none better. Let the tears flow! We are with you!!!
I listen to this song at least once a week. Every time it feels like the first time.
This was my song for my wife when I was on deployment. I never told her about it until after I retired and she asked why there were tears in my eyes when this song came on.

"Send her my love" is another great journey ballad.
My fave Journey ballad...
So true
YES!
Mother Father is Incredible
Live in Houston concert is amazing! My granddaughters and I have worn out 3 DVDs so far. ❤
To know there will always be someone hearing this song for the 1st time makes me happy. As a kid of the 80's you can't describe how we lived through our music.
Absolutely. Music was a huge part of all of our lives back then. TV sucked. Lol
@@brendaerickson678 Agreed. Also, TV still sucks.
"Two strangers learn to fall in love again. I get the joy of rediscovering you". Maybe the best lyric ever written.
"I get the joy of rediscovering you." is one of the most beautiful lyrics in rock history.
I am not easily astonished any longer, but saying you've never heard Journey's "Faithfully" astonished me.
At her age, it wouldn't be on her radar if her parents didn't listen to it. And she got into opera at some point.
Me too, first heard it in the 70's....
@@JohnMorris-e1bguessing she wasn’t alive then.
have you heard all of your parents’ favorite music ?
There's a whole big world out there, and it gets bigger and more different from us as we get older.
That voice is chilling in a good way.
He's called "the Voice" ... He walked away because he realized he wasn't singing for the joy of music... Bought a motorcycle and save drove the California coast and reconnected with life. He's a nice guy
The incredible thing is he sounds the same when seeing it live!
That's why he's known as the voice.
But he isn't with them anymore? It's Arnel who does have a great voice too no matter what some bitter fans say to him.
The irony is that Steve Perry quit touring because of the physical and emotional strain of it all. What a voice and song.
That and the 12.5% of all concert revenue.
Good times. Good times. ✌️
I love Journey and Steve Perry. He could sing an old phone book and make it sound beautiful.

A wonderful song and a gem of a video. Thank you.
I've been listening to this song since it came out, I am not pregnant, and I still get goosebumps and a little choked up when I hear it.
I was waiting for you to get to the whoa-oh-oh part. I knew you would love it. And now you should look for a live version, because the whole crowd DOES sing along at this part, and it is pretty cool.

I've heard this song countless times, and still get the chills and get teary eyed.
This is a lovely, sappy song, it isn't just your preggers hormones. I have listened to this song on repeat 100's, possibly 1,000's of times.

To have grown up listening to Journey, I have to say thank you to the band for making memories with their music that I will never forget.

Agreed. Gotta be the live version. Unbelievable 🎶
1981 Live 2:41 in Houston. Not the most well known Journey song, but among Steve Perry’s best
If I could have anyone's voice as my inner monologue, Steve Perry would be it. What a voice.
I would love for you to listen to "Feeling That Way/Anytime" so you can hear the combination of Gregg Rolie and Steve Perry sharing lead vocals.
The song Just the Same Way for the same reason, Gregg Rollie/ Steve Perry combination.
Watching you hear a song like this for the first time is so satisfying! You always get it
As a 63-year-old who spent most of the 1980s on the road, this one gets me every time. Early on, I could keep relationships going, but when I got married, it was even harder. I had to go work in France for a month after our first son was born. Steve's voice gets me every time on this one. The way he emotes brings back a lot of old feelings.
Congratulations on your wonderful pregnancy!

You were set back by the lyrics and the voice-so cool-we all were in the early 80’s -that’s why they filled stadiums for years -and still do
Jackson Browne's "Load Out" is another great song in the "entertainer angst" genre. He was very close to Linda Ronstadt and The Eagles back in the day.
She should absolutely do a reaction to Load Out / Stay.

This song makes my tears flow every ... single .... time. I'm not even remotely ashamed to admit it.
YES!! THIS!!
I'm not familiar with it, but I'll take everyone's word on it. I just enjoy hearing Steve Perry sing.
I hadn't heard it until I got a 4-CD Journey set and I love it!
This is one of the best songs ever♥️♥️
It’s not just musicians… we veterans of the military also feel these same things… first when we lived thru it being stationed far from home and heard Journey express in song what we could not iterate on our own… this brings back so many memories and it is so joyful to watch you experience it for the first time!
Loved it when I first heard it growing up. Didn't understand the words at the time, but the emotions came through crystal clear. Never ceases to get me teared-up.
