Sample is from Spandau Ballet's song "True". The lead singer of Spandau Ballet makes a cameo appearance near the end of this video.
Beth Meyers
These millennials need us. Times like this underscore this 😆
OneDigitalSoul 😂
Lil Wayne an Lloyd .. U
he is at 5:18
Also used Erik b and rakim paid in full.
This is such a beautiful song. I feel tearful whenever I hear it. It touches me on the deepest level. It reminds you of happiness lost and the melancholy of life. Lightning in a bottle. Thank you.
Do you ever think you have to lose something to attain happiness in some degree or form ? I just mean if you decide to not talk to someone that was once a friend but you drifted apart but you realise it was a good thing you aren’t in that friendship before because aspects of it were toxic ? Speaking from my own experience haha just trying to say when one door closes another opens I suppose but you have the memories of when times were once good
I concur .......
regards Alls Legends
P.M.Dawn "Reality use to be a friend of mine "
This song is literally 5 minutes of daydreaming put to a beat. Sometimes you don’t need a message. Just relax and let your thoughts flow.
P.M. Dawn was the bomb in the early 90's, second to DeLaSoul of course.
Haha DeLaSoul was my shiiiit
P.M Dawn was my everything back in the day... I wore their cd’s out lol
Pm dawn was on a whole other lvl dude de la soul can't compete.
@@knephsabir3245 Were equally popular in this part of the world, but I couldn't care less really.
They are both great but it's like trying to compare Prince and MJ , they are not exactly the same category despite being under some of the same genres and from the same era
Sample is Spandau Ballet’s 83 hit ‘True’. Loved PM Dawn - great first album.
On most of my mix tapes all through the 80s.
You forgot the drum track is from Eric B. and Rakim's "Paid in Full" ✌️
Jason kH well spotted. 👍
They actually sampled 3 songs, the obvious was Spandau Ballet's song TRUE. They also sampled 2 Hip Hop Break beats, one by The Soul Searcher's called Ashley's Roachclip and one of my favorite break beats by the Jazz legend Bob James , a song called Take Me To The Mardi Gras. P.M Dawn did well with this song, it was a hit for them back in 1991
Quite simply, one of the greatest r’n’b/soul tracks ever.
Thank you India! I’ve been waiting for someone to react to P.M Dawn. Wish they’d been around longer, sadly one brother. Prince B. had a massive stroke and later passed. The original group was finished.
PM Dawn is one of those acts that came out at a really weird time in music (They were pushed hard for a bit then got gobbled up by the record industry itself) Which is a shame a really unique R&B Soul hybrid sound i think there last major hit was Looking Through Patient Eyes (1993) which was supposed to be this epic comeback MTV/Radio were super high on there return but, Grunge & Gangster Rap took the spotlight.... Really awesome song using a sample to both expand on a hip new song and also putting a spotlight on the original song RIP Prince Be aka Attrell Cordes (1970-2016)
If I had a request from Heaven, it would be to relive the 90's. Musically, one of the best decades of my teenage hood. This song is smoother than a rainy day.
It was , sadly I wasn’t a teenager , just a kid but it was a fabulous decade
I was a teen all through the 90s. 44 years old. We are becoming the old people now 🍻
This was one of THEE jams during my senior year of high school....✌🏻🇺🇸
Hey India! Spandau Ballet- True is the sample
Bingo!
You beat me to the punch. Who song that one?
There's a great mash-up with these two songs on You Tube....very cool. Look it up.
Im a 47 year old white guy..and i love jam in out with you india....i love you kiddo..im a metal head and a raper...all music...xoxo
soul to soul - back to life is similar of that era
this!!. India would love it.
Hell yeah!
Yes! With that braid!
And tom’s diner - DNA as well , bliss !!
At 3:44 "Christina Applegate, you gotta put me on" is from "A tribe called quest - Bonita Apllebum"
An absolute Hit....Best Track with an 80s pop sample ever....At least in the uk everyone heard that sample so muuuuch....Memories everytime.
other songs by PM Dawn worth reacting to "I'd Die Without You" and "Through Patient Eyes"
The name of the second song...is "Looking Through Patient Eyes" and on the Bliss Album.
Close though.
It is a shame that one of the guys was so bad in his everyday life, because the music from them just jammed, hard.
RIP Stephen. Music lives forever ❤
MORE P.M.DAWN!!! They have So Many Great songs! I'd Die without you, Miles From Anything, Sometimes I Miss You, Misery In Utero and many many more!!! Attrell Cordes, Prince Be R.I.P.!
Damn India your taking me back to my teenage yrs. Thank you
PLEASE do “I’d Die Without You” by PM Dawn. It’s legitimately my favorite song of all time
One of the best rap songs ever. ❤🎶 So beautiful. The lead singer of Spandau Ballet (Tony Hadley) appears towards the end. It features a sample of Spandau's "True". Another classic song I love. ❤
Haven’t heard this song in a minute. What a trip down memory lane.
This is one of the most beautiful music videos ever made. Also, the song came out when I was 14. I loved it so much, but I don’t really remember the video too much. It was so cool to see the video.
One of the best rap songs ever.
That's what I think too. Thank you.
I was in 7th grade when this came out lol I loved this song so much.. so many memories ♥️
Some songs are time machines. When I hear this song I am listening to WZPL Hot 99.5 Indianapolis in my sister's bedroom, trying to hit record on the tape player right when this song started!
Lol, oh the kids don't know about trying to record your favorite songs to a tape lol. That was a whole night or two of work depending on if you had a duel recording toolbox with some of the songs already
The sample is from Spandau Ballet but that classic beat is from Eric B. and Rakim "Paid in Full"
Actually the beat is from Ashley's roachclip by Soul Searchers
min 3:41 "Christina Applegate ...ya gotta put me on...guess who's piece of the cake was Depp on" ... ICONIC lyric. PM Dawn for life!!! :)
It’s amazing how so many rap artist used older popular music! 🎶🎧. Not bad
Smooth rap....yeah!
Before rap music had truly 'crossed over' to the mainstream, it produced some incredible songs and artists. The early 90s especially. Some of the songs by De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, Heavy D really captured that era on wax.
Even the prelude to this, Snap, Beats International, Ya Kid K, Soul II Soul, Technotronic, etc.. when it was fusing with dance music. Magical times. Truly special.
One of the best songs of the 90’s. Flood of memories hearing this.
RIP Prince B., I love PM Dawn and his lyrics.
Fantastic choice! First fell in love with it teaching in country South Australia 1993.
“True” by Spandau Ballet is the sample. This song always reminds me of summer. I also love “Reality used to be a friend of mine”, “looking through patient eyes” and “downtown Venus“
They came out way before their sound was accepted by the masses. If they came out today, they’d be perfect for the music scene of today’s climate.
When I hear this song, I'm back in middle school in the fall of 1991 looking at the girl I thought I was going to marry. At 12 lmao. It's amazing how music can do that. Keep expanding your palette young one...soooooo much beautiful stuff you haven't even tapped in to yet.
Spandu Ballet, True
Nostalgic childhood memories come to my mind when hearing this song.. sigh. A better place and time!
Nothing beats the vibes of the 90s.
RIP Prince B. The world wasn’t ready for you bro.
This is a cool song! They sampled the song “True” from Spandau Ballet and the lead singer even made a small cameo in this video! True was a huge 80s hit! ❤️
How I loved these guys back in the day.. R.I.P. Prince B 🙏🏽😎
I love this song so much. Its timeless. A real summer song.
Ahhh! This takes me back to the 3 wild months I spent working in Gran Canaria in 1991. Never stopped hearing this song and never tired of it.
this must be one of the most important hip-hop songs of all time. It virtually paved the way for sampling and the rest, as they say, is history. Good of Spandau to let them do it.
I grew up to all these songs.good memories!this isn't a slow jam.but they knew how to make them, back.in the day.
Love or hate Prince Be....Yo his music is timeless & a staple in my high school years forever...R.I.P. Prince Be.....🙏💜🎶
PM Dawn put out one of the biggest hits of the 90s and did Boomerang sound track. They will be jamming 500 years from now off two songs
Honey this song was the shit I am 41 now everybody played this song!!!!!!! Mannnnn this song is like wtf I'm in love
Best sample of song to create a new one ! PM Dawn pulled it off. Love it still
So many great artist back in the day, Try some Soul4Real "Spend the night", the whole Candy Rain album, Surface "Can we spend some time", Try some Stokely "Make me say it again", Toni tony tone "It never rains in Southern California".. Rude Boys "Written all over your face".. Snap "The power".. can go on forever with the old jamz
The song sampled was "True" by Spandau Ballet, which was released in 1983 and went to number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. The lyrics mentioned "Careless Whisper from a careless man". I wonder if he was talking about George Michael. Also "A Neutron dance for a neutron man". "Neutron Dance" was a dance classic in the 80's by the Pointer Sisters. Christina Applegate was a major starlet from the '80s. It sounds like this is a tribute to the 80s in my opinion.
You are killing me with these songs from my youth I had forgotten about!!!!
Beautiful song. RIP, Attrell.
Brings me back to my teenage years lol Try ... Arrested Development..Tennessee
They were so ahead of their time! The only rap group I love!
They were a breath of fresh air as they brought a new jazzy vibe to hip-hop. I jammed their music from the time I was in high school and in college back in the 1990’s.
omg! this takes me back! :D ty for reminding me of the good times in my past! :) big love to all
Good song, play more of their stuff.
Spandau Ballet “True.” Please! ☮️💟✌️ loved this too!

wow
I heard this song way too many times back in the 90's in my Mexico city but I never watched the video until today !
for some reason I never really checked it out on youtube and today came up as a recommendation on your channel @India
loved it.
Ahhhhhh summer of '93 when I graduated HS. ❤✌🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
ME TOO...Class of 9T3 ROCKS👌💯💯
Another good song of theirs is Paper Doll.
Great reaction! I LOVE PM Dawn, waaaaay ahead of their time....
Love this song brings me back in my teenagers 90's
Fave song at age 12. Bloody poetic and magical. Patient Eyes is my fave song of theirs
You should try Siouxsie and the Banshees’ Kiss them for me, I think u would love it!
This is such a beautiful hip hop song reminds me of de la soul awesome ❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊
We had all the Jams growing up in the 90s and 80s. lol
The baseline sample is from "Ashley's Roachclip" - Chuck Brown (1974). The drum break in Brown's song which starts from 3 minutes 30 seconds, to 3 minutes 50 seconds is one of the most sampled in rap and r&b music history. Mixed in is Spandau Ballet's 1983 song "True".
it was cool to see her face shine after feeling the good vibes.
Such a beautiful classic tune lovely.
Christine apple gate was from the show married with children aka kelly bundy.
My favorite of all time.when I listen to today's era of music, then listen to old school joints like this.i get mad as hell that our music has fallen so bad!!!
PM Dawn was a very interesting and underrated group in their time. "Downtown Venus", "You Got Me Floatin'" were great. They also do an unique interpretation on Talking Heads "Once in a lifetime" which you looked at recently.
I'd Die Without You ❤
roze quinn And Downtown Venus
Yessss
'Hippy hop" I always called this. De La Soul and Soul2Soul were too at the time. Then Gangster rap killed the vibe.
Spandau Ballet sample True. The white guy at the end of video sang it in 1982
I love your vibe, India. Keep doing what you do. I'm 56 and love setting myself adrift on memory bliss listening to you experience songs from my day. So fun. Thank you, sweetie!
Oooo you have opened my memories... flashbacks to the 90s teenage years haha!
There's a cheeky little reference to A Tribe Called Quest's 'Bonita Applebum'... another wicked beat from chilled out times!
This was part of my young adulthood. Adrift on memory bliss, indeed!
Such a great summer song
There are three main components to this track: 1. True by Spandau ballet - bit obvious
2. Ashley’s roachclip by The Soul Searchers🥁
3. Take me to the mardi gras by Bob James
Very good song another great artist died of diebetes. He had 3 great songs in the early 90s.
Lol. She listen to so much songs that she forgot she listened to this 3 months prior...even though they sampled them heavily on this song. Lol 😂
One of my all time favorite groups.
My jam
RIP to Prince Be.
I 💜 This Group!Ps. It's Simple Of A 80s Called True!🥰🤭🤗💃🎶🎛🖥💘
This brings me back to the 90's... I liked this group and wished they kept it going into the new millennium .
Apart from my daughter this is the best thing that has ever happened, the day I found a duo name P.M Dawn..
They were excellent while they lasted. "Paper Doll" is a good track aswell.
I know this is going to make me sound oldish, but I remember BOTH songs! I am still a child lost in the '70's & '80's music some '90's
New Jersey represent !! 💯🔥
Still jam this song today
😁😁😁💯 I know in your heart you feeling the vibe baby girl..that's right!
This group was waaay ahead of their time. Check out " Paper Doll"
Hello early 90's!
