P.M. Dawn got a lot of heat from rap fans back in the day because they were psychedelic rappers (with a '60s visual vibe) during an era when gangsta rap was the thing. The lead singer/rapper Prince Be (1970-2016) even got beaten up. They were unique and quite wonderful, especially on their first album. This track went to #1 and their other hits were "Paper Doll" (#28), "I'd Die Without You" (#3), and "Looking Through Patient Eyes" (#6). Another catchy track was "Reality Used to Be a Friend of Mine" (#29 in the U.K.).
Grad Nite, May 1993, Disney Orlando, we saw PM Dawn, Shai, Hi-Five and Jon Secada. That was a great night. I listen to these songs and I am overwhelmed with such a powerful melancholic nostalgia. It’s because a song can take you back instantly to a moment, or a place, or even a person. No matter what else has changed in you or the world, that one song stays the same, just like that moment.
1983 and it’s spandau ballet. The two band members that you don’t see in the original song starred in a movie together called the Krays, Martin and Gary Kemp.
I was a huge PM Dawn fan at the time. Rocked the album on repeat for years. I know I'm old when i start feeling nostalgic for '90s music. Excellent content, CHEERS!!!
Thanks for reacting to my request 😊. It was on your review of True. Set Adrift on Memory Bliss. Produced by PM Dawn. Written by Attrell Cordes. He was the lead singer and rapper. True. Performed by Spandau Ballet. Written by Gary Kemp. He was on piano 🎹 in the video. But in reality, he was on guitar 🎸 in the studio 🎙 and on tour. Tony Hadley was on lead vocal. ➕ Backstreet Boys sampled True. Suggested videos 📹: 1 Backstreet Boys sing I Want It That Way.
Uh oh you're in luck. The kid Lori did a remix "stick with me" and sampled this beat. It's from the movie boomerang with Eddie Murphy feat Hallie Berry.
I love PM Dawn!! I didn't hear much of this album, but the one after "the Bliss Album...?", every song on that album is golden!! I'd Die Without You, Looking Through Patient Eyes and their cover of the Beatles Norwegian Wood are all amazing and I hope you check them out. The rest of the album is just as good. They also had another hit (at least here in Australia) called Gotta Be...Movin' on Up, I think that was just a soundtrack song, it's not from an album. Great song though
If you love this you should try their version of a Beatles song Norwegian wood, absolute beautiful perfection you will also love DJ Smooth song Sway, and a group called 4Strings Summer Sun, Into the Night, Let it Rain.
And there it is .. Next on your "Spandau Ballet" tour? "Through the Barricades". GREAT 90s trip, here, Miss Britt. (Do NOT get me started on "Army of Lovers". Ya'll ain't ready for THAT side trip yet)
That was True by Spandau Ballet, that this was sampled from, and you reacted to a while back Britt. And the guy at the end, was the lead singer of Spandau Ballet. This song bring back memories for me, in the early nineties.
Wow cant believe you are doing PM Dawn I used to love listening to him back in the day he is so good and his music is always positive I am very happy right now thanks for doing this you rock. What you are thinking of is Spandau Ballet, I Know This Much is True lol
I can neither confirm nor deny the number of times I was completely blitzed out listening to this album in high school. Thank the gods that I grew up in the 80s & 90s! Thanks Britt for the very happy flashback
Um, did you forget about Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell and Iman? Three of the most beautiful women to ever grace this planet and they are from this era, and not barbies.
There is a documentary on YT about PM. Very sad how Be went out, he had a lot of health issues and suffered four strokes in the span of ten years. He died in a nursing facility and left behind his wife and three beautiful kids. Prince Be wrote, produced performed many of the songs they did. Unfortunately he signed over the rights to PM Dawn to his sleazy cousin Doc G while he wasn’t in a sound state of mind. G makes all revenues that should be going to his kids. He still releases music under the PMDawn name but it’s far from the music Be made. What a tragedy.
Michael Jackson was already doing that whole diversity thing in his Black Or White video. The best thing about it was that it wasn't preachy, woke or guilt trippy. People got along organically back then, the 80's and 90's were so much fun.
So i he could do was have his thoughts filled for the girl that was already taken with the ring on her finger, you know that saying, you always want that which you cant have, or did he just want that ring because it was worth a lot 🤔
“True” by Spandau Ballet.
And that was Tony Hadley hisself cameo-ing it up at the end when Britt said "Who dat?!?"
and the beat is from "girl you know is true" by Milli Vanilli
@@Mr.Frost666 It's a sample from "Ashley's Roachclip" by The Soul Searchers (1974)
I was just gonna say this. But I love this song and still to this day
Britt, at the end of the video making a quick cameo was Tony Hadley, the lead singer of Spandau Ballet who had the original version song True.
