At 5:09 I talk about getting the best zoom quality with perfect focus throughout. DJI Mavic 2 Pro: amzn.to/3LKQpYE DJI Mavic 2 Zoom: amzn.to/38jAvHg DJI Mavic 2 (UK): amzn.to/3PKoGdR DJI Care Refresh for the Mavic 2: amzn.to/3LLaSN1
No, tap-to-focus is still Autofocus, so I tap on the subject or object and that will automatically focus on the object. Manual Focus is different and actually brings up a focus slider in the app where you drag the slider back and forth to truly manually set focus. I find manual focus very hard to get right from such a small screen since you're using your own eyeball to determine if you're in focus or not, rather than just tapping on the screen and allowing the Autofocus to accurately snap onto the object.
Hey man, I personally love my drones for areal photography. Would you say this model would be ideal for its super resolution capabilities? or would it be better going for the pro?
I bought the Mavic 2 Zoom recently due to the amount of added features over my original Mavic. I would love to see a beginner's guide to some of the settings.
Thank you for going over the optical zoom option under 1080... I was thinking DJI scammed us with their promo video where they zoomed in on the giraffe...but now I see it’s available with the correct settings!
I just want to say you do GREAT videos. They are very well done. Polished, professional. You communicate extremely well and I always come away learning something. Thank You and please keep them coming.
Some great information thanks again and thanks also for not shouting. My original purchase option was the Drone with the haselblad camera but have since cancelled in favour of the zoom. I looked at so many videos and for me the zoom was eventually the better option plus trying to justify the extra expense was becoming much more difficult. Love your videos you speak so clearly and very informative. Way to many reviewers start with good intentions and a defined subject but within a couple of minutes go off in a different direction, it just becomes messy and confusing. You manage to encompass your subject without losing focus of the subject. Brilliant and thank you from London UK
Great video man, having the original Mavic Pro for over 2 years without any issue, I was gonna jump on the Mavic 2 Pro because the 1” sensor and “Hasselblad” camera, but after seeing some reviews, unveiling the real true about the Mavic 2 Pro cropping the sensor to avoid overheating problems I decided to check the Mavic 2 Zoom that will get me the Super High Res photo and the optical Zoom! That’s enough for me! Subbed to your channel buddy!!
Oh wow!!! I didn't know it zoomed out to 96mm. I thought is only zoomed out to 49mm. Now I really want one! Great video and thank you for explaining everything so clearly!!! :)
As usual , great job. I'm going to wait and see before thinking about a purchase. Flying Mavic Air and Spark for now, having plenty of fun with those two guy. Thanks again buddy.
Hi Ed,. love your tutorials. The issue with focus on zooming is most likely due to the f2.8 aperture. At f2.8 you have a very shallow depth of field. The subject has to be in focused and the rest of the background is naturally blurred. Hence the tip you gave for zooming. Well done.
That was a great video! For the novice like myself, you introduce me to a few things I can't wait to try. Thank you! I will look for more of your takes!
You would have to fly in picture mode if you want to actually see at night with the zoom. (In that mode you can set a much longer shutter) best results obtained with 2s shutter for long exposure photos(night).
First time watching your UA-cam channel. Fantastic work! I'm in the bail bonding business in North Alabama. The active track with Zoom could be a game changer with catching fugitives! Thanks for the video!
I think you can touch screen the building your plan to zoom in on, and then it stays in focus all the way through the zoom. I haven't tried it yet but someone else was doing it that way. You might want to try it too.
Hi, Ed, I just found your channel and I want to say I enjoyed the video. Informative and to the point. I'm planning on saving up for a Mavic 2 Zoom to purchase sometime within the next 4-6 months. I subscribed as well. Cheers
Hey, nice video. my question is, somehow in the DJI trailer they talk about this "Super resolution mode" but nobody talks nore covers that . did you try it? does it add value as compared to DJI mavic pro ? or how is it. thank you! If you have any picture comparing both?
Awesome observations there on the easy access to SD and the notch for the phone button. That charging function can sure come in handy! Good video about the little things, I really like the MP RC but there was some things that could be better. Glad DJI adressed that! Thanks for the video, thumbs up from Sweden
I have the original Mavic Pro which has the same sized sensor like the Mavic 2 Zoom. But I feel that the Mavic 2 Zoom has better image quality, better noise control. And the color from Mavic 2 Zoom is more 'real' or more like the normal camera, while the original Mavic Pro is more like the phone camera.
universe I compared a Mavic 2 Zoom photo and my Mavic 1 photo both at ISO 100 and the M2Z had a lot more noise. Dunno if it’s just the thing with the copy that I was flying (not mine) but I hope it’s not that bad
it seems like the zoom might be the one to buy for most people. Thanks for the review. I would love to hear your thoughts on the zoom vs the pro. Which is best for you and why.
Hi Ed, thanks for the video. My 2 zoom is in the mail as I type this so I'm looking at some videos to get a feel for the drone. I just lost my Mavic Air yesterday. Had a low battery and expected it to return-to-home...well, it climbed straight up to one hundred and some feet and then headed the opposite direction from RTH and ran out of battery then dropped into a tree about one hundred feet off the ground. One I get the drone I will come back and watch this again. Thank you.
Good question. The Zoom's Super Resolution feature is basically a 48 MP equivalent, but it also takes more time to take. You wouldn't be able to burst out 5 or 10 different frames like you could with the Pro. Also, if you were taking a shot of a train going by, a highway with lots of traffic, a sports car in motion, ocean waves crashing, etc, the picture stitching of Super Res would not work because the 9 shots composing the Super Res image are not all taken at the same time.
Ed Ricker thanks, great points! BTW, a somewhat different issue, is the serial number in the battery chamber of the Mavic 2 Pro on the lower right corner in two lines beside a QR code? There doesn’t seem to any “S/N” indication that clearly marks it is that one. I was attempting to register with FAA but got confused. An online chat with DJI wasn’t of help either.
Ed, it is possible shoot in RAW in Super Resolution mode? And second question - how can be activated "touch screen gimbal control"? I did not know it is possible but check this video ua-cam.com/video/x5fQ5CFxpaM/v-deo.htmlm32s
Pavel Mašek A follow-up question to this for Ed, if Super Res is a software process, is it possible for this feature might be in the Pro soon? Since there’s no zoom hardware capability, can the camera through its gimbal or the even the entire drone, move in order to take different shots and stitch the whole thing for a super-duper high res?
Super Res is only really effective if nothing is moving within the picture. The drone stitches 4 12mp pictures together and takes a few seconds for the gimbal to adjust for each one and complete, so if something is moving between the frames (trains, cars, people, waves etc) they will become distorted.
Everyone should have a good preflight checklist that should now include checking the flight mode (T-P-S) since that switch can easily get bumped/changed between flights. Another first flight preflight besides updating DJI Go 4 and the firmware is to be sure to calibrate the IMU.
Would you consider either of the new Magic Pros to be a good drone for commercial business? I’m waiting for the next Phantom but like the portability of the Mavic as I have a Mavic Air now. Thanks!
In the very early days with professional Zoom lens cameras it was always done like that. E.G. you chose your shot zoomed in, manual focus then Zoom out. From then on everything would be in focus.
Ah yes! I remember learning eons ago, when I was a kid, with my family's ancient regular-8 movie camera: If you want to zoom in on a subject, always focus at full zoom, hold focus, zoom out, start the "film," and then zooming in.
HI David, I use Premiere Pro. Here's a video I made a couple years ago about my computer build. I've upgraded since then, but it gives you some insight into why I built it the way I did: ua-cam.com/video/x34YkqYxDU4/v-deo.html
Can you do a video that explains contrast , sharpness and saturation ,what each one is actually adjusting and how can these changes be observed , what to look for ? And are ND 8 filters a good all around filter ? Or maybe you have already ? Could you Share this information again, if that is the case.
I'm almost beginning to wish I could trade up, if it wasn't for the upcoming legal stuff in the UK then I would for sure. this is the first video that has achieved that, thanks Ed.
Hi Ed I am glad I saw your videos about your Mavic 2 zoom review ,they were recommended by the salesman.my question is if there is drone mapping in this drone ?
Thanks. I'm just dipping my toes into drone video and this brought up a few notable points. LOL: When you discussed the focus/zzom-in problem and your solution, I was thinking, well, though sometimes not practical, I'd have just shot that from zoomed-in to zoomed-out, then reversed it in the editor. The LOL is because later in the video you suggest that very technique for another shot. Personally, I prefer to not shoot with digital zoom at all since I can take care of that in my editor, as well. But, I can see where if you're switching from optical to digital, doing it with the Mavic would give a smoother product at highest quality. Anyway, thanks again for the vid!
The easy access memory card slot and better access to home button are a nice touch. Thanks for pointing these things that most reviewers skip over. That APAS system is amazing, the way it moved around objects without stopping. Is the Hyper-lapse intelligent mode only on the Zoom model or the the Pro model have it also? Great video Ed, keep them coming.
Great follow-up. It's a little unclear whether you are saying this is a parfocal lens, meaning it will hold its focus at different focal lengths. My understanding is that varifocal is a simpler design, so I would think that would be used here. Also have you gotten any sense of whether the HD zoom does optical and digital zoom in parallel through the whole zoom range, or does it only apply the digital zoom for the part of the range beyond the optical limit? If the latter, in a live zoom is the transition between modes visible at all?
Thanks for the videos! I would like to know more about how the Super Res photos work? Can you use different zoom levels? Are the stiched outputs seamless? What if there are moving elements like cars or waves?
Nice man!!! That’s helpful.. I just buy the mavic 2 zoom 2days agp, and it’s my first time that I have this incredible air drone... nice video!! I subscribe and like to.!!! Keep uploading more with drones man
Did you notice that you can pan the camera on the Magic 2 by long pressing and sliding your finger on the screen? That's a feature not available on the original Mavic.
Hi Ed, Another great video!! I have a question about using the super res pano feature on the mavic 2 zoom. In your video, at 6.25 you talk about zooming in, focusing, and then zooming out, before hitting the record button. So when attempting to take a super res photo (9.55), is it necessary to zoom in, focus, zoom out, and then ask the camera to do it's thing to generate a 48mp super res photo? Just wondering if that's necessary to get the best possible quality of image from that feature. Thanks for your thoughts. 😊
love the video, thats wy i tinhk zoom is beter then pro because bring a lot of new possibilities whit zoom that did not exist before, and you can get fly more pack included for the price of the pro
Great video as always! Some people have been saying the the RTH "precision landing" is either not functioning / or not included in the Mavic 2 series. Could you confirm if this is correct concerning the RTH "precision landing". I felt that precision landing was a great feature with the original Mavic, I am kind of bummed DJI may have discontinued the feature going into the 2nd series of Mavics.
Hi Ed, great video. You show a setting in the Remote Controller setting- that keeps your phone from being charged by the controller. Just want you to know that I am using an android phone, and did not see that setting. Called DJI cust serv and was told that issue has been escalated. They said that functionality is only on IOS devices at this time. On my phone the drain keeps the RC from running any length of time.

Ed. Another great Video! The best thing about your Videos is the extreme attention to minute details which makes your Videos so valuable!!
Great video Ed. Can’t wait to see the beginners guide for the Mavic 2. The one you did for MP1 was by far the best on UA-cam.
Just unbelievable how rock solid are those aloft shots. Great quadrocopter.
There are so mutch Videos about the two drones, but no one of them had so usefull tips. Thank you for your work!
Greetings from Germany
Dude you have the best vids out there...great work!!!
Finally someone with some sense! I'm sick of watching people review the Mavic and saying not to bother opening the props!
would love to see the low light performance of either or both mavic 2s
Another awesome video.
I'm learning a lot about my new mavic. Your videos are well done and you explain everything clearly. Thanks.
I ordered my Zoom from DJI 2 days ago and just received it! I think DJI is rushing these out to customers! Way to go Fedex!
Great video Ed!! Love the backdrop of the city skyline!
Great vid, I've just bought the zoom which is my first ever drone, to be honest it's all over my head at the moment but you have been very helpful
Oh wow!!! I didn't know it zoomed out to 96mm. I thought is only zoomed out to 49mm. Now I really want one! Great video and thank you for explaining everything so clearly!!! :)

I really appreciate your videos Ed. They're concise, well presented and thought out. Always worth watching.
Best
Great Video Ed. The zoom will be my second Mavic so looking forward to it..........Gonzo
Had NO idea I could zoom in further not being on 4k. THANKS for this video!
Best review on the zoom yet, while others babble on about the specs but you actually test the base functions. Subbed 👍
nice review. Trying to decide what to get for my next quad and it's vids like yours helps a lot in the decision making process. Cheers mate.
Sifted through hour's of junk "influencers" to find your videos and I am a fan. Great Job keep the good stuff coming
Your videos are the best! Simple and very informative

also you can enable the grid lines feature which is in the settings which can help you frame things properly whilest zooming
Great Tip on the Zoom in and grab your focus, then zoom out and get your shot. Thanks!
This is the kind of review I need, thank you.
Thank you so much dmfor this video! It's helped me decide to go with the zoom. Great description
I just got this drone for Christmas and it is god tier.
Great video! You touched on some things that I hadn't seen in videos published by others. Thanks! Hoping to get the Mavic 2 Pro in next year sometime.
Thanks Ed for sharing some valuable information.
Thanks for this video, Ed. I'm upgrading from a P4 to a M2 Zoom. Great tips and info. New subscriber.
I still find this one of the best drones around. I have had mine for over 3 years and it works great !
Can you show both the zoom and the pro and Night Flight I would like to see the quality of both thanks.
I got the zoom...forget about it if theres not alot of street, store or any other lights on at the time.
You would have to fly in picture mode if you want to actually see at night with the zoom.
(In that mode you can set a much longer shutter) best results obtained with 2s shutter for long exposure photos(night).
some interesting info, still using my Mavic Pro 1, waiting to see the Pro3.
First time watching your UA-cam channel. Fantastic work! I'm in the bail bonding business in North Alabama. The active track with Zoom could be a game changer with catching fugitives! Thanks for the video!
I bought already the dji mavi 2 zoom Is the best one thank for your review.
I think you can touch screen the building your plan to zoom in on, and then it stays in focus all the way through the zoom. I haven't tried it yet but someone else was doing it that way. You might want to try it too.
Thanks Ed, your tips were amazing! You really helping us out!
great video thanks just got my pro and flying tonight.
Hi, Ed, I just found your channel and I want to say I enjoyed the video. Informative and to the point. I'm planning on saving up for a Mavic 2 Zoom to purchase sometime within the next 4-6 months. I subscribed as well. Cheers
One of the most well detailed explantations of a drone and its camera qualities ive seenso for👍🏼 cheers mate
*I wanna hear you make a Christopher Walken impression, you sound soooo much like him! Btw great review, best i have seen on this drone so far.*
Haha you're the 14th person to say that...I counted!
Ed Ricker well its true! Lol
Okay, I don't think he looks THAT much like Jeremy Renner but he sure looks more like Renner than Walken!
Very good. I really appreciate your detail and actual footage.
Great video and review does your horizon or level need to be recalibrated based on the time lapse footage?
Hey, nice video. my question is, somehow in the DJI trailer they talk about this "Super resolution mode" but nobody talks nore covers that . did you try it? does it add value as compared to DJI mavic pro ? or how is it. thank you!
If you have any picture comparing both?
Awesome observations there on the easy access to SD and the notch for the phone button. That charging function can sure come in handy! Good video about the little things, I really like the MP RC but there was some things that could be better. Glad DJI adressed that! Thanks for the video, thumbs up from Sweden
great video dude!! thank you for making this.
That is a great tip on separating the rotors.
Thanks Ed; can't quite understand why DJI made the two variants and didn't just combine the two features into one model Mavic Pro 2? Money?
Mike in Oz
like usual, they expect us to buy next mavic pro 3 (with Pro & zoom stitch in)
when they out of other improvement idea.
Very well explained. It appears that the Zoom has the edge for videography.
Depends on who is filming and editing. Like the mavic Air the color profiles are more for customers with less experience
universe I compared a Mavic 2 Zoom photo and my Mavic 1 photo both at ISO 100 and the M2Z had a lot more noise. Dunno if it’s just the thing with the copy that I was flying (not mine) but I hope it’s not that bad
I was out at Dix yesterday as well with my Spark. Looks like in the same spot too. Right in front of the port-a-johns. Sorry I missed u.
it seems like the zoom might be the one to buy for most people. Thanks for the review. I would love to hear your thoughts on the zoom vs the pro. Which is best for you and why.
Nice review with usable tips for better video quality.
Hi Ed, thanks for the video. My 2 zoom is in the mail as I type this so I'm looking at some videos to get a feel for the drone. I just lost my Mavic Air yesterday. If Super Res is available in Zoom, do we really need the 20 MP of the Pro?
Very nice video on the Mavic 2 Zoom. Thanks!
Great show and tell instruction and video.
Nice and straight forward to follow. Thanks.
Thanks!
Another great vid Ed, thanx for that i enjoyed it
Nice vid! Does the mavic has a headless function (smart mode)?
In the very early days with professional Zoom lens cameras it was always done like that. E.G. you chose your shot zoomed in, manual focus then Zoom out. From then on everything would be in focus.
Ah yes! I remember learning eons ago, when I was a kid, with my family's ancient regular-8 movie camera: If you want to zoom in on a subject, always focus at full zoom, hold focus, zoom out, start the "film," and then zooming in.

Hey man, whenever you get the mavic pro 2 could you make a video comparing it to the original Mavic Pro?
Thanks!!
Very good review, thanks man ! Keep it up
I'm almost beginning to wish I could trade up, if it wasn't for the upcoming legal stuff in the UK then I would for sure. this is the first video that has achieved that, thanks Ed.
Does it have continuous autofocus like the phantom or touch to focus like the mavic 1 (which was awful)?
Nice presentation Sir Ed, still watching this video. Rgrds 😉
Great Video like always. Big fan. Please add Drone Cinematic Scenes, They are awesome.
The only thing I'm interested in is over the long run which one is a better investment. Pro or Zoom.
Waiting on my zoom now!
Dji, King of the sky. Good show, man. If Dji comes out with replaceable camera, that will be awesome!
Hi Ed I am glad I saw your videos about your Mavic 2 zoom review ,they were recommended by the salesman.my question is if there is drone mapping in this drone ?
Thanks for the video, I really like that zoom. After having a note 8, I love that 2x camera in it.

very nice , is this the iphone x
Great video and review. Thanks
Thanks for your help with the super res mode man. Sending mine back for the pro, just wasn’t impressed at all with image quality.
Daniel Costa I disagree, you find that there is nothing much as you can fly to location with the greater flight time.
Irwin Pang plus the camera of pro is glued and its coming of of some drones, dji have to fix this.
Another great video
Thank you
Dorthea Did Field! Great place to fly.
Great video as always!
Some people have been saying the the RTH "precision landing" is either not functioning / or not included in the Mavic 2 series. Could you confirm if this is correct concerning the RTH "precision landing".
