If you cannot get the best thing do not stress about it, all of the drones I go over are still incredible to be able to get as "entry level."
Even the Mini 2 is STILL an awesome drone. Mini 4K is the updated model and you have to get it on Amazon strangely.
It has a 1/2.3" sensor and shoots 12 megapixel photos but it is PLENTY to grow with. Just find it used on Craigslist, Ebay, Facebook Marketplace, Offerup for like $250 or lower.
Mini 4K (2020) - $300
(newest version of the Mini 2)
4K Video, RAW photos, no collision sensors but can live in your pocket
Mini 3 (2022) - $400
4K, RAW photos, Great connection, Vertical Filming, .76 inch sensor, really impressive for the convenience and ease. No anti-bonk
Mini 4 Pro (2023) - $750/$900
Get the $900 one, it is a billion times worth having a dedicated smart remote especially for so little extra.
.76 inch sensor, 4K footage, vertical filming, 12 megapixel RAW photos, quietest body type, looks like a bug when its flying. I could write an essay about this thing. By far the most fun to use, incredible connection. Footage often looks like it came from a bigger drone. Activetrack to follow you around if you care about that.
I've got a video on the Mini 4 Pro vs Mini 3 Pro as well, LOVE it.
Air 3 (2023) - $1000
MASSIVE improvement on its predecessor, 2 camera on it which I actually use equally and didn’t expect that. Sensor has improved low-light and exposure balancing is really great in this generation, even if the sensor is same size as mini 3 pro.
4K footage, .76” sensor, 12 megapixel photos.
60fps if you care (I don't). It is cooler than the Mini 4 Pro because of camera 2 and the sick looking body, but Mini 4 Pro is just so convenient so its a tossup. Get mavic 3 classic if pro quality is priority.
Autel Evo Lite Plus (2022) - $1100
6K 1 inch sensor, 20 megapixel photos. Flies pretty rigid so stick to front/back and left/right. Really nice picture, lovely reds like in all Autels. Oversharpened image but I can live with that, just adjust some in editor. Fun colors to pick from give it extra points, could use it for work and still get the job done if DJI gets hit by a car one day. Doesn't beat DJI but this isn't bad.
Autel Evo Nano Plus (2022) - $700
NO
Mavic 3 Pro (2022) - $2200
4/3 inch Sensor, 5.1K footage, 20mp photos. Long flight time. Get the normal version not the $4000 Cine version if you don't know what Prores format is.
This is the Business Class plane ticket drone, there is no going back after having this. Unbelievable dynamic range. UNREAL stability, default color, flight control, flexible rich data for color grading.
A 3x and 7x telephoto lens comes on it. Never use the 7x aside from fun, but the 3x is a great length and useful… just hard to give up the quality of the wide camera that is 5.1k.
Still great for cool angles and cinematography nerds. In general most of what I film on this drone looks better in the end than what I thought I was getting while shooting. They knocked it out of the park with this drone, no limits honestly.
Mavic 3 Classic - $1300
Not typing all that again, you get the point. Minus the Zoom lenses, everything else is the same. Crapping myself at the price being so cheap now. What a deal.
DJI Mini 5 - No, don't even start asking.
Inspire 2 + X5S camera - $5000+ Used
Shoots 6K RAW Video (literally filming in RAW photos)
5.2K 422 Prores and 4K Proress 4444 incase you know what that all means. Cinema formats but such a pain to lug around, and the noise is a lot. It's more like a once in a while, Ace in the hole to blow something out the water or shoot Stock Footage and practice cinematography. Interchangeable lenses are really nice too.
I have other videos on making money, go watch those if you need.
If you want the fastest way to get better footage, watch the Cinematography one, trust me it is very necessary.

I know there is a Mini 2 SE on DJIs site, but that is only 2.7K, they have updated the line with the Mini 4K that came out like a week ago (May 2024 for anybody in the future) You have to buy the Mini 4K on Amazon though, strangely
Hey man, i would like to buy a drone I'm debating between the mini 2 and the new rg 101 pro 8k 24fps don't know if you are familiar with it ! what would you recommend?
@@Joel762b39 The rg 101 blah blah is a toy compared to the DJI Mini 2. You will be much happier buying any DJI than those cheap aliexpress toys.
Ok thanks man
@@Joel762b39these toys are getting pretty good but that thing is still not close enough to a Mini 2, just get a Mini 2
@@QuickAssTutorials 200% just buy a used mini 2. Dji will still support it and it has unlocked SDK for custom apps if you care about that
This guy’s dry humor stays undefeated.
The horizon however....
only reason i watch, he’s great
Flawless
I had to pause the video after the things he starts to say at 1:05
I couldn't stop laughing 😂
Step child 🤦♂️🤣
"If you can't afford coke, drones are almost as fun and last longer" Got him a like in the first 30s.
Bro that shit relates
hahahaah same here :D
I had to rewind.. did I hear Coke references 😂
Did he just say coke? Lmao 😂 yes he did and I’m sold.
He got me to subscribe when I heard that lol
You had me at "I have been teaching people since I was fat". Humor in reviews and buying guides is always appreciated.
That’s the part I had to rewind 😭 wasn’t sure I heard it right lol
I fell for Lilly drone hype 😂
he doesn’t want to go there Evo Nano 🤣
Never watched you before. After first 50 sec I go "fucking love this guy" *continues to sub
Same 😂
I think till now all the videos that I have watched on UA-cam about drones were just....unboxings or just the review of a drone's body. This is the first one where I am able to learn a thing or two about drones. I am really satisfied with the content / practical knowledge I got to receive in these 22:59 minutes.
As someone who researches things too much before purchasing this is the video I need for every purchase and the added humor is on point. Thanks!
As a newcomer to the drone industry, I must say, after reviewing hours of drone content, reviews, and critiques yours was the most honest and most helpful thank you
I have to agree.
I watch these “update” videos every year, even though I have half these drones, just because I love your content so much! 😂
Same haha
Yeah, I'm not really in the market for a drone, but I watch all his vids.
@@user82938 Alex makes Hood "no nonsense" vids about quality drones
Im 17 and have always wanted a drone since i was 10. I finally ended up buying a mini 3 pro with the rc controller two months ago. Its a phenomenal drone and so I'm so glad i got this one as my first real drone. Highly recommend
Never seen this guy before, never owned a drone, never subscribed to someone's channel... but, he gets a sub. He explains things to someone just like I would, after all the research, learning, experience, and finally mastering something (fishing, cooking, mechanical boat/truck fix, etc), cutting through all the endless BS, and summarizing the freakin point like a smart-ass. Well done. I don't know jack about drones, and now I can already tell I won't have to waste 2 weeks of nightly research trying to figure it all out. Thx
when I saw you flying inside with a ceiling fan going round behind you, I almost screamed at the screen.. yet you did fine... my heart is beating back to normal now!
I come for the reviews & stay for the dry humor. Love your work style!
“Nothing beats going somewhere filming it from a newer perspective and the footage coming out better than the feeling of what it was like when you were there!”
You’re the best👍🏻👏🏻 thank you 🙏🏼
Ive been flying for 9 yrs AND this dude lays it out like I would but I am not an astronaut.
Neither am I but you're right.
Probably one of the best guide videos I have ever watched on youtube. Funny and real.
Dude’s raw confidence with these drones is admirable - in his sound comparison - proceeds to take off indoors from his tabletop (with ceiling fan turning in the background, no less) and that included the pterodactyl that looks like it could easily send a grown man to the hospital !! 🏥
This guy really does know how to make a good tutorial video that truly cuts the sh*+! Straight to the point and not full of a bunch of bs. Love it. Very helpful information
Beginners do not buy $1k drones. The lowest cost DJI should have been your most expensive example. Everyone destroys their first drone; no reason to waste money and hate drones from first bad experience.
My beginner was $40 and eaten by top of a pine tree on a windy day.
DJI quality is appreciated, after learning on a $40 beginner.
This video is next level and for choosing your first good drone; not beginner level to sacrifice.
I'm one of those over-confident (on forums) new guys acting like he knows everything, that's flown 4 times.
I got the Air 3 because the price was manageable compared to the Mavic, but it as the 70mm lens over the Mini.
Already in the few flights ive done, the 70mm lens is AMAZING, beyond belief.
You can do stuff you just cant do with the standard lens (obviously). Especially sunrise / sunset timelapses look extreme with the compressed view, with some extremely slow panning.
I just bought a Pontesic Atom SE pro and it was only $250 and so far it’s been working really well. I’ve flown it over a kilometer away and 300ft high with no issues. The camera quality is okay but not like the DJI drones but it works. It has no object avoidance but as long as I’m above the trees that’s not an issue. Top speed I’ve got was 43mph.
I recently picked up a used DJI air 2s from a pawn shop. I'm not embarrassed to say that. And It really is a lot of fun. I am also looking forward to one day getting my P-107
Just bought mini as a hobby, you produce very good tutorials. Even if "only" doing it for a hobby, taking the time to not completely suck is always worth it.
I was just watching your 2023 guide so it’s a pleasant surprise to see this pop up on my feed! Came for the info stayed for the comedy.
It was time for an update because mini 4 pro and air 3 have changed a lot
@@QuickAssTutorials oh yeah!
Also those have seperate "O4" systems over the older quads.... and sadly those controllers are not backwards compatible
I don't know what was better, how informative this video is or the absolutely stellar sense of humor! Big win either way.
Dude this video is quite possibly one of the best videos I’ve ever seen.. beautiful footage, amazing information, great humor, and just heart warming at the end where it felt like you were giving me a ton of inspiration. Appreciate this a ton!
Straight to the point, packed with info, topped off with a healthy dose of dry (but great) humor. Fantastic amount of useful info. 👍🏼
I have been trying to decide between various drones out there, and this by far the best video available covering all the aspects and still giving me a sense of clarity. Please keep updating this every year. 🙌
Just bought a mini 3!
UGH....i wish i saw and listened to the quote "anything under $250 is a rinky dink toy". For years i was on a quest to find a low cost but decent drone...the math does NOT work out under $250. wasted and crashed a lot of money. i would tell any beginner who doesnt want to spend too much to start with a nice DJI mini...2 or 3...they are amazing and on sport mode have some great pep. Thanks for your wonderful channel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Possibly the best video of its type in youtube - well done man.
Man, this was the most informative and entertaining video i’ve seen in a long time!
I went from knowing nothing about drones to feeling pretty confident on which would be best for me.
Beautiful images, no bs honest experience and some good laughs.
Thank you!
Forget the drones, I'm still waiting on gym workout tutorials
Thank you for this vidro...I have been wanting to buy a drone for 2 years but got so much bs info that was saying u needed to spend a grand or more to get started..u answered every question I could have thought of and showed footage to back it al up in 20 mins..awesome stuff..thanks again!!
"Why is she texting the Pool guy again" had me rolling :D
I did lot of research. I own mirrorless top camera, full frame 60 megapixels. Top dynamic range. First thing i checked was sensor size. I was surprised all where same except Mavic. Then i learned about Classic and that pro uses weaker tele sensors ( wich I wouldn't use much), I concluded on Mavic 3 Classic. Now use in Norway, insanely curious to Footage. I like the better build quality of the mavic over small ones, gives me more confidence. I also like the stronger propellers, in strong wind. While learning the drone was not easy, cinematic is almost peace of cake with it, as a photographer nerd and movie Nerd. The better controller, someone recommended. So glad i listened. I would hate to use phone onthe other one.
Your humor is one of the best I've seen this month 🤣
This is the kind of video that in the beginning looks boring and you want to click another one, but then you want to watch it entirely on TV! Thnx bro!
s'ka perse me nder qofsh!
Another awesome video, and straight to the point and no BS of excuses. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍
What a great video!! Glad that you were sincere about what a person might need or not need to just have fun or make money. It has been a while since a person makes an honest video without trying to sell you on something. Not to mention the views are great. Thanks, and this video made me a subscriber.
look forward to this video every year. love the humor
Its the straight face on on the witty remarks for me! You're great, dont ever change!
Also thank you for the detailed information.
As a person who has been flying for 10 years, I agree with everything he says based on my own experiences and purchases. He’s super on point funny af too. Great video
My sons birthday was on the 13th of May, and i got him the mini 2 se as his first drone and now i want one for my self they are just so easy to use, so this video was perfect for helping me pick my drone 👍
it better have chapters, it better have chapters, it better have chap-
I love this guy. He got me into Drone work. Thank you man. You are my favorite.
Aw man...I laughed so hard, so many times during this video. When he was trying to lose the active track 16:16 .... dead. 😂
Honestly you’re amazing. I barely subscribe to anyone, recently looking into recording and editing, and didn’t skip a single moment. Thanks for making my day better, just with a tutorial, usually these would be just boring and would only care about the information. Now I really enjoy watching it
omg I miss my favoruite bald youtuber. thank you for uploading another youtube video
I did it backwards. I made a purchase THEN did the research. My wife works at a RC hobby shop so I was able to use her employee discount and they basically had 1 option: The Stinger 3.0. There's already some features about it that are kinda annoying but after seeing this, I guess it's fine to get the absolutely intro to what drones are. Was 150 bucks so I can't complain TOO much - seems like that's about the absolute floor for something that's not "Hey this is a drone it'll fly for 5 minutes" kinda stuff. Dunno who you are, this is the first video I saw, but you seem to know what you're talking about. I love some of the choices you did, both in labeling like every piece of footage with what drone it is, to directly just having the various drones on a table and labeling and comparing them at different points. Phenomenal.
WHOAAA new ulpoad? cant lie was trying to find this video like 5 days ago nut settled with an air 3 cause it was cheap enough 2nd hand. Love ur vids and dry humour! Please come back to uploading
I love the Air 3 you didn’t settle for anything, it’s super capable . Forgot to mention there is 2.7k vertical on the Air 3 as well
Yeah air 3 mini 4 pro mavic 3 can't go wrong
@@QuickAssTutorials arrived saturday and already love it! vertical 2.7k is something i do plan on using alot for insta reels. Biggest upgrade from a mini for me was the wind resistance though ( apart from the camera) super good drone. love to see you posting again!
This is the best ever and with great humor and vast knowledge. I served with a few good men like him during Vietnam1966-70. Great fun learning the actual true facts rather than a bunch of hype. Thank you for that!
THANK YOU FOR TAKING TIME TO EXPLAIN THESE DRONES. MY FAVORITE TEACHER. NO B.S. HONEST ALL THE WAY.
I've had 2 cheap wifi drones which I crashed before and then I got a mini 2 SE and I'm really happy. Only real downgrade from mini 2 / mini 4k in my is that you don't have 4k footage but other than that it's totally worth not getting a mini 2 cause it was on sale for 200 $
brb buying the inspire 2 just to kill birds. thanks for the rec!
complicated way to let Brandon know but thats why I made this video
11:51 😂
Amazing Drone Video-- one of the Top 3 on UA-cam!!!
I just finished getting my license for fun and have no idea wtf i'm doing, came for advice on what to buy and had such a good time. your smartassery is unparalleled Sir. +1 Sub, GG.
man if you open a store, you'll never run out of business the way you sell these!
Hey, great as always! I started with two Mini 3’s (backup, cuz I broke the first one, repaired), and shortly after added a Mini 4 Pro! Great choices, especially as using the obstacle avoidance! Recently added an Avata 2 that’s now doing in-house tour shots. Not needing to do all the acro stuff. Appreciate your reviews, starting lots of new adventures for a 68 year old, retired military aviator! Still lots to do! Stay Awesome Sir!
This is such an informative video. Thank you for the time you put into this video. I went with the mini 4 pro for now i do a lot of indoor events.
I have both the Nano Plus and Lite Plus and those fly rock solid for me. Better dynamic range in the shadows and no geofencing. I do like my Mini 3 Pro with the DJI RC. The Avata 1 is so much fun.
I had a small Holy Stone that the wind took away and smashed into a brick wall. I wish (1) I had watched this first, (2) had gotten a larger drone which (I assume) would fly more rock solid, (3) that wind would have been addressed here, and (4) that I could afford coke.
I was looking for this review in Spanish cause it's my mother language and I speak English but not as good as I expect. Watching this video and listening to you was so clear, so good, it's a very accurate and useful review. Thank you so much!
This is one of the best videos about drones I have seen. Plus love the humor :)
As this is my third or fourth time watching this post, it never fails to inform and entertain! Your sense of humor is totally unique and so refreshing! I have the Mini 3 and 4 Pro, now an Avata 2, just having a blast. I am far behind getting my 107 and have to get going with it because of the opportunities! Great job Sir! Appreciate you big time! Thanks again!🇺🇸
This has to be one of the best user reviews I’ve ever seen! Subscribed. 👍
Man I have a bunch of those drones, Mini 3, Mini 3 Pro, Mini 4 Pro, AIR 3, I just got the Autel Evo Lite + Premium Bundle, 14 days ago, but I haven't opened the box yet. I also have the AIR 2S, DJI FPV Drone, all my DJI drones are fly more combos & I just ordered the Avata 2 Fly More Combo . Im studying for my part 107, & I really want to start a small Drone photography and General photography side business. For camera gear, I only have the Sony Alpha 6400 & my wife has the Sony Alpha 6100. We definitely need more lenses, we only have the two sony 16-50 kit lenses, a sony 55-210 kit lense, & a oss sony 18-135 kit lense. I would love to have better camera gear, but I think we will be alright to get started..
And this Man is the DJI of drone creators. Been watching for years religiously lol
Ok man. Im with you.. Thus is the only needed Video about Drones if you want to seperate all Kinds.... Its a perfect Video. Thank you a lot man
Great review, it helped me quick a bit…. I had the DJI mini (1) and now I’ll be buying mini 4 pro for fun ….although the mavic 3 is not much more expensive but I like that I’m less regulated then a bigger drone.
Just bought a mini 4 pro today its going be so much fun !!!
I'm doing it just for fun. I bought a Mini 3. I love it. 😊
Love the inspirational support. I've been flying for about 3 years now. I started with an SJRC F11 4k Pro. Was a great starter drone. Stepped up to a used DJI Air 2s and has been phenomenal. Camera was the seller point even though it was about 2 years since first release. I recently took a leap and purchased a new DJI mini 4 Pro. Love It! Still working towards doing more with my drones than just hobby footage. Hope to take my Part 107 soon, and hopefully be able to afford something like the DJI Air 3, or even Mavic 3 Pro. Shure there will be much more to offer whenever that time comes. So glad I became interested in flying. It's a learning experience and a feeling of satisfaction when you amaze yourself on what you were able to just capture and know that you are able to share that with others and it will always be there for you to see again.
The mini 2 was my first drone and it won my respect. Doesn’t get any easier to film and fly.
Leaning hard on the mini 4. This video sold it for me. I would go bigger, but it needs to pack down for travel on my motorcycle.
I'm over 12 builds deep with FPV quads, barely use my dji's, but still love to swing by to see my favorite tongue-in-cheek reviewer do his sassy thing.
definitely did not intend on watching this whole video, but not only was the info really helpful but the way you presented it was just top notch, well done man, you got a whole 22 minutes and 59 seconds of watch time out of me!
Best drone video on the internet! thank you for the information and the humour... love it!
The moment you had your drones flying for sound test, I immediately hit that subscribe button. I lost it, dude. But I'm not here for that, I really appreciate what you're doing, these are totally professional tips for someone like me who's still planning to get my first drone. I believe I speak for many when I say we thank you.
This is the best video tutorial I have seen in ages. I laughed out loud the whole way through and it was also the perfect info i needed.
Very comprehensive, enjoyed everything about it. Its very clear you are an expert in the industry, thanks for the recommendations and candid opinions, well done!
Hey this is the first video of yours I watched! Great advice, to the point, no BS - I'm seriously thinking of mini 4 pro! Subscribed and will explore more for your course too!
Thank you for such good quality advice and research!!
What this video offers :
Advice on drones ✅
Advice on life ✅
Humor ✅
all without a single second of boring info!!
the humor is a bonus for sure, but I found this to be the most down to earth info video ever. I have been contemplating getting a drone but didn't know what I wanted or needed. I go by the motto "the bigger the better and too much is just enough" I probably will still get the Mavic 3 pro even though I don't need it. at least now I know what the differences are in the models and realize I will be happy no matter which way I go.
Very informative video. I use DJI Mini 3 Pro and selected it because many countries donot have restrictions if its weight is less than 250 gm. It serve my purpose. And I purchased it before Mini 4 Pro launch
Great video, straight to the point, no fuss. Thanks!
Highly, HIGHLY recommend following Alex and even taking his course. No, he's not paying me to say that, if anything I'll probably pay for one of his other courses.
Top Crop Photo flies Mini 3 and Air 2S, we've had very good results with both, and even a Mini 3 can be used for orthomorphic mapping and surveys, which is something Alex doesn't talk about, but most of these drones will do that too.
Awesome work updating this for 2024, Alex.
I’m taking a course for my Part 107 Cert. and watching UA-cam videos between chapters is about the only thing that will take the edge off this dry material. 😂
This is definitely one of the best I’ve seen so far.
I have been watching many videos for a week. This video is the best advice I have 😅
Wow, such a great video man. Quirky humor, great details, cool suggestions..keep up the good work. ❤
Awesome summary of what’s out there! - I’ve found the “itty bitty” size has an advantage in certain countries as it’s under the required weight for needing registration with an aviation authority.
Great video - just what I needed... Trying to buy my first drone and I've been paralysed by research... this helped a lot.
Highly recommend the Potensic ATOM SE. First drone I ever flew and was only $300. Also has 4K, but doesn't have a 3 axis gimbal. video quality was impressive for the money.
Just stumbled accross. Never owned a drone. This was sooo informative and hilarious. Ty!!!
Hi. Just dropping you a line to say thank you for your uncomplicated and to the point advice. Made all the difference in buying my first drone, which i just made.
Great video dude! All the top needed points very informative nice!
“Astronomers versus astronauts” so true, i’m keeping that one 💯
Ok so im comming from a FPV drone+photography backround(wierd combo ik) and I went to see what is out there on the dji side and i have to say, im very impressed, even from the smallest options the footage can look great.
however - you really glossed over the fpv scene, you can get some beautifull extremely dynamic footage from a gopro.
Like the dji avata can give you a taste of what are FPV drones about but its watered down a lot.
It's not for everyone, it's the far from plug and play. To the point that you really should build your own drone, so you know how it goes together and how to fix it when you crash.
Cost wise its about the same as getting a dji drone, the more you spend the better it generally gets.
When you do get in the air(after at least some sim time) it is an absolute out of body experience and there is a reason why people swear by it.
The FPV scene is way better bang for your buck than DJI, they make some good drones, but why pay the high price tag when in under a day of research you can learn how to buy the parts and make something better yourself.
Needed this video. Just passed my 107 this AM! Thank you.
The passionate anger at "Idk why people don't care about it much" was so nerdily relatable I cackled. Thanks for making what may prove to be the only truly useful video I've watched about this so far (and I've watched enough of them to now have a headache).
