About me (the guy behind the cryptic three T's):
my name is Tom David Frey. I'm half Swiss and half German and have lived in many fantastic places, from the United States to Israel. Somehow cool.
My age? Well, it rapidly changes. But you can surely do the math: I was born in 1992, somewhere in a small town in mid-Rhineland-Palatinate.
Now the relevant things you came here for: I have a strong passion for cameras and drones. I got my first Sony at the age of six and started my own business when I turned 18 (don't ever let people tell you that you will not succeed; Live your dreams!).
Nowadays, I'm shooting videos in many countries. I have private clients as well as major companies I'm working with, f.e. Netflix. And everyone knows that one, right?
But, more importantly, I love to fly and shoot (video) with my drones. I've flown in so many countries already (China, Switzerland, the USA, Spain, Iceland, Israel, Germany, and plenty more) and love to explore the world from above in all its beauty.
That's why my main business is all about drones. I capture the world from above. And I share my experiences, knowledge, and the best new inventions with you.
Drones and cameras excite me so much that I put a lot of time and hard work into creating my videos. And I love that you guys appreciate them!
Now, join me on my adventures and subscribe to my channel.
    Stay tuned and fly safe!
    --------------------
The fine print quickly summed up 💻
Some of the links above are so named "affiliate links". By using those, I can get a small provision for purchases you guys make. That way, I can stay true to you because I don't need companies to pay me for creating videos. I'm independent and loyal to you - the best audience!
Therefore, if you purchase your gear through my links, I can keep up the honest work. 👏
The videos on my channel are property of Tom David Frey. Duplicating and re-uploading them without a written permission is prohibited. Sorry, guys, but that's necessary. I work hard on my content and somehow need to make a living. Maybe instead share my videos, by spreading the link or embedding it to your websites or forums. But please, don't steal my work. 😎
By law, I have to mark my video as a "commercial." I herewith do so: this video is a commercial. Though I promise to be honest to you, my audience, all of the time. I like nothing less than fake reviews and videos that spread half-truths just for the financial gain of someone. I believe that being honest to you is much worthier in the long run than making quick money by spreading fake information. Truth rules! Don't believe me? I already had to give up on two promising cooperations because the companies found my videos to be too honest. I call that my occupational risk. 🦾

the footage from the M2P was soooooooo much cleaner. for me the choice is clear and i'm getting the Pro. i feel like really the only feature of the Zoom that can't be replicated by the Pro is the dolly zoom. aside from that you can crop (since you have a bigger sensor) or just move closer with the drone.

Now that the honeymoon phase is over with the Mavic 2 pro, more and more pilots have found that the zoom obtains cleaner shots without needing to fix them in post. Over and over Mavic 2 Pro owners are saying that they are disappointed with the clarity for most video purposes. The Hasselblad camera was a definite hook at first. Now I can SEE clearly! This drone has everything except parachute... really I think dji should think about this feature, I had collision with bird and probably i lost 1 props, in consequence i was watching how my drone is falling down and crashing to pieces on tarmac road. Could you imagine how cool be if you have emergency parachute, in this situation drone will land safely and probably pair of props need to be replaced instead of full drone.

    • @Databyter
      @Databyter 4 роки тому

Yea, and frankly, if DJI didn't own Hasselblad, there is no way the older Company would have put it's name on this camera system that has so many problems. The concept is good, but deployment of the idea has some major flaws. In some supposedly full sensor 4K modes, the full sensor is not being used, or there is some other problem, because the resolution simply isn't there. I thought I would get the PRO, but because of the flaws of the PRO I will get the zoom, which is not even much of a compromise with the exception of losing the wonderful 10 bit. The zoom has more consistently sharp 4K footage thruout the range of modes, AND it has the Zoom. Unfortunately it has a fixed aperature which means you will have to have a set of ND filters, which is a pita and cannot be changed in the air. Databyter

thegalaxy Fanboy logic..., Hasselblad was used ONLY for the moon landings, that’s all. They wanted a medium format FILM, maybe 8 choices back then, much less today. nasa uses many other brands too. In digital was the original Dalsa that’s still a benchmark for 4K today.

    Fantastic video Tom. Two questions:
    1. How is the active track up and down a gradient. E.g. I'm looking go active track down an alpine slide in Switzerland
    2. How is the video quality in low light? I'd love you to do a comparative video of both Mavic 2's in low light.
    Thanks

Thanks for the comprehensive guide. Today is a game changer moment for the use of drones in general photography. Incredible amount of tech for the money and its now going to be far less about drone flying but more about just being a pure picture creative platform.
One thing I will disagree with you, I think a lot of professional photographers (I have been one for nine years) will go with the zoom, the ability to have full control over composition overrides the improved colour/range/size of the pro 2 imho. You can make a lot of that up in post processing, you cant change perspective (easily) on your raw file. Of course I'd like to have both, I'm sure that day will come in the next 18 months.

Such a beautiful drone, I had a hubsan h501s and something happened in interference, it flew off and I never seen it again. Sad day for me. I wish I could afford the mavic 2 Zoom, such an awesome beautiful machine! Unfortunately I cannot so watch these videos in hopes one day I will, very good job on this, I love your videos! Thank you again, these mavics are my dream

Awesome review. Really impressed with the capabilities of the Pro, and the original video footage you made available on your website, looks amazing on the big screen. I used to own a Mavic Air, but thought it was time to upgrade it later on. As an European, I'm glad that we get 5 km range on the Mavic 2 Pro, compared to the laughable 2 km range on the Mavic Air.
The Mavic 2 Pro could easily be my successor to my previous Mavic Air. Thanks a lot man!

Hi! Tom, I’m your big fan! In your disadvantages, it’s says “Cameras are not exchangeable” but In DJI Japan’s FQA, says “Cameras are exchangeable” but you have to have DJI to do it and need to pay for it. Please check with your DJI. I love your videos. It’s always wonderful :-)

That was one of the very best reviews I have ever seen. You explain the difference and likeness of both drones in great detail but in a way that the average person can understand. My wife who is so not tech savvy that turning on our DVR is a struggle, understood your explanations. Thanks so much for the great review. You did, such a great job that she wants us to get the Mavic 2 Zoom model. Great job in this great review. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😉😁

Tom, nice job on this review. You really captured a lot of detail in this video (which I know isn't easy). Nicely done...I'm on the fence myself between the 'Mavic 2 Pro' (with 1" sensor) and "Mavic 2 Zoom" (with Dolly Zoom)...hmmm, will have to give it more thought. Again, great job...

The upgrade obstacle avoidance system seems a lot like Skydio R1 which is amazing. If it's 60% as good as the AI powered Skydio R1, i would say Mavic 2 is an amazing deal at $1400 because Skydio costs $2500!

Another great review. One thing that I’m very interested in with the Mavic2 Pro is the adjustable aperture. Primarily for being able to maintain a 1/50 sec shutter speed for smoother video without the use of neutral density filters. Can you touch on that for a moment? How is it adjusted? Can you set it to shutter priority like a DSLR? Also are any of the accessories (props, charger, foam fitted cases, etc...) from the original Mavic compatible? Thanks and keep up the stellar work!!

Tom, a feature I was hoping to be mentioned was taking stills while filming. I found out after a bit of searching that the DJI FAQ on the Mavic 2 says they CANNOT do this, so there is still something the Phantom 4 can do the Mavics can't.

Great review - although there is no way the wind test was 210 Km/h. The max speed of the drone is supposedly 72 Km/h. A hurricane has a wind speed of at least 119 km/h.
I think you need to do a review on that blower :P

DJI's Mavic 2 faq explains the 27 min number for the battery. You get that while hovering, as this new drone is more efficient while moving and is less efficient being stationary. Makes sense, as you spend most of your time flying, not hovering your drone. Max time hovering from DJI is 29 min, max flight is the advertised 31 min.

Looks like both the Pro 2 and Zoom still have the same problem with muddy dark areas as the Pro 1, and need Detail Sharpness cranked up in the DJI GO 4 app to stop the noise reduction from smudging dark details.

Great review by the way. Excellent job and beautiful area to do it in. I did hear one note about when taking a photo, the shutter button is a two step function like on a DSLR Camera. Halfway down to focus the full press takes the photo. But I don’t know if this is really the case.

Hey man, for yet another great video!
I have ordered and refunded back and forth 4 times between the Pro and Zoom. Could you shed some light as to how much better is the Pro’s camera/sensor/colors and how much better is its low light performance?
I’m a hobbyist who’s never going to make a dollar out of them and mostly shoot travel videos, vlogs, misc. short clips, but also shoot pictures.
I like the creativity that the Zoom might offer me (not crazy about over doing the Dolly Zoom thing a million times per video) and all the 48mm FOV looks so cinematic, but then I think that most of the zoom benefits can be achieved through post-processing. Is the 48mm lens compression noticeable enough?
    Please help me!

Very nice review :I) I'm getting the zoom model mhyself.
The range of the Mavic is not so important , always remember that you cant fly the full 8 km in the US or 5 km in Europe and still have "work time". As the transit time to target + safety will eat up the battery . a 2-3 km range is more than enough if you want to do anything but fly out and back again
