Thanks RSD does it have a homing signal if lost does it have a > transponder at range indicator > true distance range > what temperature variances and mountainous elevations does it require a cellular provider Good Video
Great review as usual. Man, what a drone. I love the fact they finally got serious and put an optical zoom on the Mavic. Your shots are just great and I especially like the follow along shots with your son on the skateboard. Very smooth. This looks like a real winner so far. Marc.
I think that was the main purpose of it not just to go further but when you're in a residential area with all the interferences it helps a lot that was mentioned at the DJI convention
I knew you'd be one of the first drone UA-cam creators to get your hands on a Mavic 2! Outstanding review Kelly thanks for the first review and looking forward to your reviews! Will you be reviewing the Mavic 2 Pro in the near future? Again, my thanks for this hands on first look, Well Done!
Now that there are many more sensors in the drone, I’d like to know if the issue of having sun being identified as an obstacle was fixed. Did you test that?
Great review and awesome shots of Austin. Do you know if they came out with the screen built into the remote yet? Im going to be buying a Mavic 2 zoom but dont want to use my phone or spend an extra $650 on the smart controller. Thanks
In terms of camera quality.. how does the zoom compare to other quad camera’s in its class? How does it stack up with the original mavic, the p3p, and the p4?
Enjoyed Your review ....Been watching many of your reviews and tests, tutorials ...You dont ramble on like others, you are easy to follow precise ... clear and easy to understand ... I will base my decision on what i future buy on your videos .... I am now subscribed to your channel !!! ...
Just flown my Mavic 2 Zoom for the first time today and am very impressed. The image quality seems much better than the original Mavic and the zoom feature is just amazing!
You answered my question about coming out with a controller that will have a built in monitor. I was hoping that since my LG Stylo2 phone doesn't see very well in bright sunlight. Thanks....
I wonder how long that will take to have a built in screen system. I would think since they have one for the Phantom 4 Plus and likely uses similar software and design, it shouldn't be hard.
Thx for the review. Was wondering if they might have added GPS to the remotes for the Mavic 2 (guessing they'll have to for the remote coming with built-in display). Would sure help iPad users without GPS (i.e. non-cellular iPad's).
Have they improved on the charging port for the controller? Or is it still the Micro USB? I've had to replace mine on my Mavic Pro. I always enjoy your reviews Keep up the good work Kelly.
I'm glad you were able to get your hands on it early. That was a great review of the new Mavic, and I look forward to more testing of this great new drone from DJI. Well done Kelly.
Awesome video here Kelly, Packed with all the stuff we really needed to know.. Well done and btw somehow I KNEW you had one of these new birds. Just a gut feeling, Also it seems that so far everyone that is launching videos today had the Zoom rather than the Pro..
What about ND options for the mavic pro 2? People still might want to shoot at f5.6 or f4 or f2.8? Does the way it is constructed look like there could be an ND option?
I realize this video is over a year old now however I own a zoom which I use for commercial work and also hobby. One factor related to the zoom is manual exposure and why it does not work well with the zoom. When zooming in or out the field of view changes and the images go from bright to dim in drastic fashion. For this drone auto exposure works very well and when zooming is mandatory for good results.
The Zoom is for me still the best option overall. The Zoom feature is especially useful for overall capture of video, and the fact that it's camera is not quite up to the Pro version means NOTHING to me. I am satisfied with the video from my Mavic Mini so the Zoom is only better. I don't do video editing as I'm sure a lot of flyers don't do either, so that too means nothing to me. I can fly the Zoom in relatively windy conditions that would cause me grief with the Mini. Plus, when I put it up there, it just feels so much more secure that I can't help feeling better knowing I'm far more likely going to get it back (yes, I still suffer from drone anxiety when flying). I have a friend who owns both the Pro and the Zoom. He has 480 flights on the Zoom and only 50 or so on the Pro which would show it's relative usefulness to people who are not pro videographers versus those who are.
Exactly my sentiments! I have a mini but going to order a Zoom. Said this on a forum and was lambasted by comments saying 'Get the Pro2 not the Zoom'. For me, the Zoom offers more creative opportunities. I live in the country and use my mini to film deer etc so the zoom will allow me to do that more effectively and from a distance. I'm completely happy with my mini footage so the zoom will be great for me. I'm not interested in spending hours editing footage on a computer! Minimal editing on my iPhone suffices then post to UA-cam.
@@babycharliebrown One of the things you will likely really like is the fact that the zoom feature goes to 4X when in 1080 format, which is good enough for UA-cam. For viewing animals without disturbing them, it is fabulous. Also, the Mavic Zoom overall seems to give me a far more comfortable feeling when I send it out as I feel FAR more confident it will be returning to me. It's expensive but worth the money IMO. The video quality is superb even the 1080 viewed on a 50 inch LG 4k screen so you lose nothing really versus having this fabulous 4x zoom feature. I fly with a friend who has both the Zoom and Pro models and he flies the Zoom about 5 times for every time he flies the Pro. You have to take with a grain of salt all these testimonials by photographers who are coming at this from a different perspective. I just want to take good video without having to do anything in the way fo editing other than cutting out sections.
excellent presentation, I hope you can answer something for me, does the controller have the USB at the bottom? I currently use that and connect to Nvidia Shield, and then to my Glyphs for my goggle type. I order one of these, I assumed that controller would have USB, thanks again for posting
Personally I could careless about Hyper laps compared to getting the different style propellers, so you don't have as much of a high pitched whine when flying the Air. This to me is the Air's biggest downfall.
I think with these long awaited releases and reviewers saying how terrific everything is, it generates a “monkey see, monkey want” situation... If you’re going fishing, you start by deciding what fish you’re pursuing. So if on a small mountain stream with only small trout present, you would use #14-16 size flies which would need a very light fly line and a suitably light rod. If it’s heavy salmon on a major river it’d be great big flies and line/rod to suit. Applying that principle to drones... If holiday quick shots are the most you’ll use yours for, get a Spark. If it’s true Pro grade footage that your livelihood depends on, a starting point might be the Inspire series. At least. But for most average droners who aren’t especially skilful either at flying or filming, (since filming is an art form all its own) I do wonder how many of these high grade Mavic and Phantom machines get pushed to truly earn the massive cost of purchase? By “earn” I don’t mean money, since non licensed guys can’t do that. I mean in the reward felt by seeing nice footage, imaginatively shot. I see so much video posted to UA-cam where the poster takes off, often whacks it up to 3-400ft (because he can) and generally cruises around recording not much more than a moving “still” photograph, if that makes sense. I tend to think that instead of buying religiously the latest upgraded version, it’d be infinitely more satisfying to learn how to shoot better quality, improved video with what you already have - assuming you do already have one, that is... Because so many of the bells & whistles that manufacturers add to spice up a product at a relaunch might read really great on a spec sheet - because “more” ALWAYS equals “better”, guys??? Right??? But does it really? All drones have a zoom already fitted. (It’s called the Right Stick) Just as all cameras had zoom ability long before zoom lenses were invented, it was alternatively known as “walking”. I feel the temptation to get one of these new birds as well, despite the above. But I’m not getting one. Because as yet I still haven’t found the limits of my existing mini-squadron of expensive DJI birds. Except if you include tilted horizons, that is... with both P4 and MavPro. And every quad I might add to that squadron means that each one will be used progressively less and less, because opportunities to fly don’t increase just because I got a new copter. Successive rounds of buying turn us from drone fliers into drone collectors. Which is maybe just fine if your bankbook has big fat balances in it, but if your goal is merely to shoot better and better footage, are you being limited at present by your drone? Really?? Or by being too lazy to learn how to fly it better, or learn how to plan your flights better? Or by not mastering the camera’s settings to best advantage? I’ve been guilty on all those charges, by the way. But from now I’m going to stress much more on learning to use better what I already have, rather than buying the latest super duper FrankWang’s finest all singing all dancing doohickey. This trap is one I’ve fallen into previously. Right now I couldn’t tell you exactly how many fly rods I own , not even to the nearest 5. That’s plainly ridiculous, but to allow a similar process to continue with drones would be, to say the least, - wasteful of resources, which in my case are very far from limitless. At present I’m flying a P4 standard, a MavAir, and a MavPro. The first and last occupy to a large extent a fairly similar duty area with me, while the Air’s strength is in close range controllability and sharp video of (to my eyes) excellent quality, added to matchless portability. It’s a buzzy wee bugger, but I never fly near people so that counts for nothing for me. All three machines are far better quads than I am a flier or a videographer, and I suspect that (at my age) that’s likely to remain that way. So. NO Mavic #2 for me! Although that Hasselblad camera was a giant attraction! (I’d really like to think that I can stick to this abstemious principle, but history might at some point have a different story to tell... Meanwhile, I’m a holdout.)
I want to see people showcase the improved obstacle senseing since it's "improved" is it now comparable to the skydio r1? Also do they have 360 view drones
Great review - it would be helpful if you could tell us how long it takes to complete a super resolution 48Mp picture. I'm hoping it's pretty quick to minimize the effect of movement in the scene.
Curious to see the new Active Track possibilities with the omni-directional sensors. Does it track the terrain now? How well does it avoid obstacles and keeps tracking? Waiting for your vid ;)
What a great review Kelly! Nice to see you have had one for a while and took some time out of your already busy schedule to fly and play around with it. Looking forward to seeing more of the video it shoots. The new features look cool. Thanks again.
Well, I'm still using DJI P3P and the results I'm getting from it might surprise someone. The main thing I'm missing is 4k/60. Sad that the new Mavic's doesn't have that (yet).
Thanks for this excellent tutorial. I'm new at this and live where there are lots of hills and trees. I will try to fly above the trees and within my line of sight, but am curious as to what would happen if by mistake I fly over a hill or behind some trees. Would I quickly lose contact with my new Mavic 2 Zoom or would the radio signal of my Smart Controller stay in contact? I've watched a zillion videos but can't find this information. I don't dare try it without knowing a bit more.
Will this take off in a nfz ? I fly in my yard in the outside edge of the zone within reason ,my bebop2 will let you and I know some dji models will not
Nice work! Did you let the cat out about a controller with a screen? I never heard them say anything about that! That would be awesome. Any timeframe? Also you mentioned they used the same ESC motors but I though he said beefed up motors and props? Maybe I was goggly eyed watching I heard wrong. Question- if a budget wasn’t an issue would you prefer the Pro or stay with the Zoom and why? Thanks and keep flying!!
DJI told me about the new controller. As far as the motors, you are right, they are different (props too), but the ESCs (which are different from the motors) are the same as Mavic Pro Platinum. Thanks for the comment!
One thing worth noting is that although the mavic 2 pro has a larger aperture, the mavic 2 zoom actually has better pixel density. The mavic 2 pro comes in at 2.0 cm per pixel, where the zoom comes in at 1.4 cm per pixel. That's a substantial difference in detail! So if you're doing mapping work, the zoom will definitely give you more bang for your buck. That being said, having a smaller field of view, you will need to capture 3 photos with the zoom to cover the same ground as the pro. So it will take three times longer... But with better results
I love the family of Mavics. So adorable:)
Thanks RSD

Great video Kelly! ---I'm looking forward to your Mavic 3 review next week.
Thought you would post the review of the Mavic 3 Ken.😁
Ken, Your Inspire still amazing, I bet you hope your unnamed friend would get you the magic pro 2
It's no top of the range Inspire 2 though!
Wait... should I sell my Mavic Air to get a Mavic 2 and then sell that next week to get the Mavic 3?
I'M SO CONFUSED!!!
Oh my gosh guys Ali a here and I just found out that the the Mavic 3 is coming to fOrTnItE bAtTlE rOyAl
Are you going to make a tutorial on the Mavic 2 Pro with the Hasselbach camera soon? That’s the one that I am going to get
Well done review of the features of the Mavic 2 Zoom.
What are the downsides to this model in addition to the lack of 60 fps?
Thanks.
Came over from iPhonedo.
Now that there are many more sensors in the drone, I’d like to know if the issue of having sun being identified as an obstacle was fixed. Did you test that?
Is there a fly more combo for the NEW drones? can the Mavic pro batteries and props work with the new drones?
Autofocus fix? Or still tap to focus, did the clarity improve when shooting 1080p at 60 vs old mavic pro? Thanks, great vid
I wonder if the new controller with the builtin bigger screen will be compatible to the Mavic Air.
It has rear sensor but pro dosnt had it, so there is some changes in sensors.
Great review and awesome shots of Austin. Do you know if they came out with the screen built into the remote yet? Im going to be buying a Mavic 2 zoom but dont want to use my phone or spend an extra $650 on the smart controller. Thanks

Hi nice vid, did you get a chance to see how the 2x optical zoom looks like when you add it together with digital zoom?
Is the Gamble stronger construction then the first Mavic pro
Just flown my Mavic 2 Zoom for the first time today and am very impressed. The image quality seems much better than the original Mavic and the zoom feature is just amazing!
Nice overview but would have liked to see more of a side by side with the mavic pro just from a size perspective.
I wonder - how long will it take DJI to switch to 3D video....
You answered my question about coming out with a controller that will have a built in monitor.
I was hoping that since my LG Stylo2 phone doesn't see very well in bright sunlight.
Thanks....

Does it still have tap to focus or is it like the air that does not?
Whoot congrats on getting another amazing drone ! Keep up the great work and having fun !
Great video! Does the camera pan?

I was still charging via USB on this one.
I'm glad you were able to get your hands on it early. That was a great review of the new Mavic, and I look forward to more testing of this great new drone from DJI. Well done Kelly.
Is it a waterproof? Can fly even it rains..?
Hello, please..... Which one is quieter Mavic Platinum or Mavic 2 ?? Thank you.
Hi. excellent video !!! Which is quieter Mavic Platinum or Mavic 2 ?? Thank you.
I'll be waiting on your noise and decible test from the Drone or props thanks
Thanks for this wonderful review, i am enjoying my zoom to the fullest
How much is it to have the pro 2 camera fitted to the zoom
Welcome June 2020 how are you doing?
BrickFreak2000 i am fine thank you
Can’t wait for mine to come in. Bought it yesterday 4 weeks after getting the mavic pro lol. Guess Ill have a drone battle to the death. Great review.

Mavic 2 Zoom Super Resolution, were is it?? How do I use it?
Is the waypoints still the same meaning still no offline waypoints feature
Great review, thank you.
Will it fit in the same GoProfessional case as the original Mavic Pro?
How do you make camera turn left and right ? Or it can't ? Just up/down ?
Does the camera shoot uhd video?
I’m seeing the same flicker of greenery that previous Mavics had. Did they not change the sampling rate in 4k? Great review by the way
Amazing review! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I think the Zoom will be my 1st ever done 🤗
Does mavic 2 zoom has 4k camera same as the pro type?
Just got mine yesterday....WOW. Thanks for the review
You are welcome! It is pretty amazing. Have fun with it.
What about ND options for the mavic pro 2? People still might want to shoot at f5.6 or f4 or f2.8? Does the way it is constructed look like there could be an ND option?
Yes, they have ND filters for the Mavic 2 Zoom and the Mavic 2 Pro.
Awesome. Saw that today. Looks like a nice system.

Awesome! Thanks! Please post a picture on Instagram when you get it.

Great review! I'm guessing the Mavic 2 zoom captures the HDR and Superres images in JPG? And only for regular images there is the DNG option?
Kelly - Did you get one of the package deals with extra batteries and case? Enjoyed your description on the MP2.

Hi I want to be able to zoom in 4 times so I need to use 1080p what are the best camera settings no grading raw out of the camera? Thanks
Outstanding review Kelly, thanks. Gimbal / lens would be up-gradable? Is it removable?
Geo fencing changes ?

Great review Kel. You always do great reviews for DJI PRODUCTS. Will you be doing a comparison of the Mavic 2 zoom to the Phantom 4 pro?
Yes - I"m planning on that.
Thanks for the review. Looks like a really cool new toy!
My Zoom with smart controller, and fly more kit will be here soon! #Hype
i want to see if the active track really has improved and wont crash into trees

Can it do a hyperlapse zoom combo?
I did not try that, but I will!
Is it "tap to focus" on the Mavic 2 zoom like on the Mavic pro?
What i read many did not like that.
Great review :)
A great introduction to the new Mavic 2 Zoom. How long have you had it Kelly?
Good job, Kelly! I hope this video does not appear on Facebook like the other one did!
