I’m vegetarian with a little “off and on”, too. Especially around the holidays. I decided this year that one could be vegetarian in percentages: like 90 or 95% vegetarian. Why not?
For chopping onions, have a floor stand fan just behind your left or right shoulder and aimed so it blows the onion smell away from you, ideally towards a door or open window. Since I started doing this, no more watery eyes. Makes a huge difference when I'm chopping pots of onions for canning onion soup.
Definately a keeper, lush! I added roughly 10 sun dried tom’s instead of fire roasted and chorpped them fine soaked first plus didn’t have enough lentils I used red! So added aduki beans I had plus some diced green beans and a bit of chipotle chilli powder and used chopped press baby spinach instead which I just wilted with the hot soup on top… yum!
Love your cooking. To avoid the onion tears, put a fan in your kitchen and turn it on to blow the onion fumes away from raising to your eyes. It works. Thank you for your recipes.
I've adopted a new cooking hobby over the past 6 months, and came across your channel and this recipe this past week. So far, I've made the hot chocolate (our kids say it's the best they've had), and this lentil soup and I must say that I'm excited to try many more recipes. Thank you!
This was so good! I don't have a hand mixer so I couldn't do the bit at the end unfortunately, but it tasted very filling anyway. First time in a long time I didn't need to add salt to a dish since it had enough flavor content on it's own.
Okay, I'm sold! I just made a pot today and it is superb! I thought about spinach instead of kale, but I love kale! The broth that your recipe makes is perfect for us. Your cabbage soup recipe is definitely on the back burner. Thanks for all you do. We loved this soup!
This is the third or fourth time I’ve made this soup and it is absolutely delicious. Husband loves it also. I am bored with lunch so this soup will be my lunch every day with a whole grain roll. Thanks so much. The aroma in my house is incredible.
I didn t dare cook the lentils with the vegetables in fear of everything sticking and burning, but now!!!😃😃Lisa, just love your style, dont know how come this recipe just dissapeared somewhere🤣
My mother in law taught me a trick when cutting the onions (her eyes are extra sensitive as well!). She turns on the stove and cuts the onions standing next to it (ofcourse at a safe distance). Sounds very silly but don't knock it till you try it!
I have tons of pumpkins this year and will try to substitute the carrots with small chunks of pumpkin. IT adds another savory flavor that might surprise you! I also add larger, pumpkin chunks to any bean casserole. The pumpkin melts down and blends in well to the bean casserole...esp if adding pork or pig's feet! (Yeah, I'm Portuguese)! WE love soups and stews and 1 pot dinners!
okayy just made this and it slaps! i subbed spinach for kale and personally i really recommend blending the spinach/kale for a better texture. mine was also really thick and i served it with little homemade garlic bread slices. going in the mental recipe book for sure

Hey Lisa! First of all thank you for all of your wonderful videos! I found out that I have a gluten allergy ~ 2 years ago and since the beginning you have made me feel like I am not alone! Absolutely amazing and detailed and well put together video! This soup looks delicious and I cannot wait to try it, hopefully this week! Thank you, Lisa!
I have a small tip for you dear. If you don't want to "cry" while cutting onions, always cut it on a stove. Just turn it on a medium flame, put a board on a stove and just cut the onion. I believe that your stove is pretty big and there is enough space for placing your board so the burning flame would neutralise the smell of an onion and it's affect on your eyes. My stove is not so wide but I still manage to place my medium sized board in front of me. Hope that my advice will help. Love your videos 😁 God bless 🙏❤️

I made this soup last week and it was absolutely delicious! Best lentil soup ever!
My first week being a vegan and I’m definitely giving this a try! It looks delicious!
Spinach would be just as good as kale and needs less cooking time. One minute is plenty.
This is the third or fourth time I’ve made this soup and it is absolutely delicious.
Husband loves it also.
I am bored with lunch so this soup will be my lunch every day with a whole grain roll.
Thanks so much.
The aroma in my house is incredible.
Thrilled to hear you're loving this lentil soup!
I also heard about a science hack where you keep a slice of bread in your mouth while cutting the onions.
The extremes we are willing to go through to avoid tears fascinates me 😭😂
I made this today and it came out sooo good! Healthy yet filling :)
Lisa always whipping up a sweet and savory option. I love it 🤩
Lisa,this is such a great recipe !
I have cooked lentils all my life, but never this way .My family enjoyed it so much !
God Bless you!
I made this amazing recipe. Used all fresh ingredients vs the dry and it was just superb!!!! Thank you very much!!!
I just love making homemade soups,, and I love lentil soup....I’ll be making this very soon, yummy! 🍜
U r d best as always....lots of love from India..🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
You're so sweet! Hope you enjoy this lentil soup 😊
Debanshi Chowdhury Hi Debanshi from India. Do you have a recipe for chicken tiki masala? My fav. 👋🏻

This was absolutely delicious! 10/10 I peeled the lemon zest off with a peeler, minced it and added it to the soup with the lemon juice
Made this recipe with mixed beans instead of lentils and it was so amazing! I’ll make it again with lentils for sure.
Thank you for this recipe - the first one from your channel I am trying out. I think this soup will be a lunch staple for me throughout the week although I think to win over my partner I am going to use less of the mixed herbs spices and blitz the celery before hand, so he does not see it! Appreciate your content. Very useful as I try to make positive changes.
This soup is the Bomb! Can't get enough, I also freeze it. Very convenient and still 👌
Wow! This recipe is awesome. My kids loved it! I added corn which tasted amazing in this soup. I also shredded carrots and celery. I will be making this over and over again. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
Glad everyone enjoyed this lentil soup 😊
Holy smokes this is literally the first time having lentils and literally not disappointed at all!! This taste so nice an refreshing, she means it when it comes to the lemon you definitely need it!! Wow 10/10
Going to make this tomorrow. The soup looks delicious. My mouth was watering while watching the video.
Can't wait to see how your lentil soup turns out Alan 😊
I tried this recipe and it tasted amazing! Thank you. ❤️
This is indeed the best Lentil Soup recipe ever Lisa!! Thank you so much!! ❤️
I soak lentils a night before in planty of water. That helps with bloating which is common for many people after eating legumes.
Thanks for this recipe!
Made this yesterday, omg so much flavor! I pureed all of the Kale because it was kinda tough. The lemon really made the tomato🍅 pop!
Glad you enjoyed this lentil soup 😊
@@Downshiftology Everything I've made from your channel has become a new staple in my life!
I had trouble with the zucchini lasagna, but its only because I didnt have the right equipment to slice the zucchini. Will try that one again when I can purchase one.
I cooked this one today and it was soooo good! The lemon makes it extra special!!
Hello there I enjoyed the recipe love a good veggie day, this soup is exactly what I was looking for, thank you
Great Lentil Soup recipe! Healthy and easy one pot meal to make.
Hey Lisa!
First of all thank you for all of your wonderful videos! I found out that I have a gluten allergy ~ 2 years ago and since the beginning you have made me feel like I am not alone!
Secondly, when I cut onions I like to stand under my kitchen hood, on blast, it helps suck out all the fumes.

wow, thanks, this soup looks amazing, Its 9pm now otherwise I would go shopping and make this soup now but I will get the ingredients tomorrow morning make it for noon.
What a pleasant lady you are. Just saw you and I really liked the way you share things with us. Thank you.
My eyes are super sensitive, too. If I’m wearing my contacts onions don’t bother me near as much as when I’m wearing my glasses. Great recipe!
Thanks for sharing Sarah! 😊
Absolutely amazing and detailed and well put together video! This soup looks delicious and I cannot wait to try it, hopefully this week! Thank you, Lisa!
Thanks so much! 😊
Made this tonight for dinner and it was amazing!!! Everyone loved it! I added sweet potato to the soup and it was delicious😊 thanks for the recipe
Yay! Happy to hear this lentil soup was a hit!
My home smells like Lasagna! 😳 Soup is DELICIOUS! I added garbanzo beans to mine 🤷🏻♀️
An excellent way to stop onion tears is to set up a fan so that the fumes from the onion blow away from you. It really works
I agree b'cause I do the same and it works amazingly.
Will need to try! 😊
Looks amazingly delicious. I'm going to try this.
Just made this last night-honestly, the only way I now can truly say I enjoy eating lentils! Very very good!
I have tried all kinds of lentil soup I must say this is the best lentil soup no cream not much spices very simple and tasty I make a big pot of soup every month and freeze it in small containers thank you love your recipe ❤️
IAM DEFINITELY ADDING THIS RECIPE TO MY CHRISTMAS DISH ❤👍🙏
Woo! This one's definitely a winner for the winter season 😊
You won't be disappointed
I know it sounds funny, and it looks even funnier, but I wear swim goggles to slice onions and there's no more tears!
Lot's of people have been saying that! 😊
I do the same. It may look funny but saves me from tearing. After all I’m cooking, not a beauty contest.
whenever I cook this kind of dishes I make like at least 6 portions so I can easily enjoy it for a month or so.
This kind of soup is definitely great for batch cooking 😊
Month? I eat 6 portions in about 4 days 😆
That would only last me two days. 😊
I totally do goggles when cutting onions. Worth it.
I just made this soup and of course I didn’t have the can tomato so I added a combination of tomatoes and also added diced pumpkin, and used chicken broth instead of vegetable broth since I did not have any in stock. It was so good I’m hooked. It’s also good to make it your own.
