The bit with the bug pit is one of the few bits in a film to genuinely traumatise me. The bit where the worm comes down over Andy Serkis's head is the worst.
That bit always put me off because Serkis' character's machete-wielding arm is completely free and he has more than enough room to manoeuvre it so he can chop at the worms and free himself (and they're also quite slow), yet for some reason he just kind of limply flails it without hitting anything. It makes more sense now knowing there wasn't any choreography and they were told to randomly fight the air, but it's one of the few parts that didn't work for me, even at the time.

*snaps her fingers* That bugged the crap out of me too! But I guess they were like "Well hell's bells Margaret, we've had juicy crocodile all month, let's see if that little crumpet looking thing is saucy!"
I'm just assuming that a small morsel that can't fight back is easier to eat than, you know, an 8 meter long crocodile And then when Kong pops up, dinos need to say "hey! We live here! Get outta here!"
They invented an entire fictional "natural history" for their take on Skull Island, and the short version is that evolution on the island has spent millions of years in a hyper-aggressive, hyper-competitive cycle. All of the predators are just suuuuuper vicious, basically, and the v-rexes in particular have a generational feud with Kong and his ancestors (each species is, essentially, the only natural predator of the other).
Hi hungry friends! I find surprisingly that I get hungry when watching Godzilla and Jurassic Park. @@Movypro23 Yeah! The tech improved but he was also really able to bring more intellect and potency to a real character! But glancing back at this it's incredible how much power and mass he was able to give to this Kong, as a gorilla at that. Personality, strength, agility alongside bulk, it's a heck of a performance. In stage and drama he's a powerhouse, he's kind of been the singular groundbreaker regarding how old "stage puppet" acting is now merged into film. That and he's now mocap'd two famous MonkE. And his role in the Inception prequel (I'm joking) "The Prestige" as Tesla's assistant in Colorado Springs was a lot of fun for me. Be safe out there everybody, fun to meet you all!
I remember playing the video game of this movie all summer when it came out. Even there, the sheet effort really showed with it easily being the best movie-adapted video game I've ever played.
It still genuinely impresses me how well a lot of the CGI and effects in this movie hold up for 2005. There are still some...iffy moments here and there, the stampede scene is...probably the most infamous example, but a lot of it still looks great.

If you like mindless movies with rock em’, sock em’ action, cheesy dialogue and no lasting effect, this movie is not for you. Go watch Fast 40 or one of the new Marvel movies. If you’re a nerd that enjoys the tale of King Kong and other similar type films, this will be one of your favorite movies. Greed, man vs nature, the conflict between fear and understanding, the struggle between civilized and primal minds; these are just some of the themes this movie ventures into. You’re not going to do justice to that in 90 minutes. This movie just does accomplish this impressive feat with over twice that run time. Some of the CGI is more impressive than what we see today. Admittedly, there are some scenes that dont hold up as well. Im not afraid to call a spade a spade. But overall, this movie is absolutely amazing and every member of its intended audience knows that.

I grew up with this movie. This is where my brain goes when someone mentions King Kong. I love this movie so much. I have a nostalgic conection with it and I love it. The bug scene haunted my 7 year old self for days. I still watched it over and over.
oh god, I think I was like 14 when I saw it and the bug scene still haunts me to this day
i will never understand why the trio Trex was so adamant about eating a small woman, especially when they had a fat juicy crocodile
*snaps her fingers* That bugged the crap out of me too! But I guess they were like "Well hell's bells Margaret, we've had juicy crocodile all month, let's see if that little crumpet looking thing is saucy!"
I'm just assuming that a small morsel that can't fight back is easier to eat than, you know, an 8 meter long crocodile
And then when Kong pops up, dinos need to say "hey!
@@crazydude610 funny thing they killed it easily and one of them was chasing her while the dead body was in its mouth
Hi hungry friends! I find surprisingly that I get hungry when watching Godzilla and Jurassic Park.
Anyway yeah I think everybody is right, "it's movie monsters" "hyper predators" (which actually do exist, lots of preds actually regurgitate their meals to hunt again. Not me, not after Dominoes especially) so yay! Internet leads to learnings!! Be safe everyone!
That scene where Andy Serkis’s character gets eaten by those... worms? Traumatized me so badly as a kid😂
Worms on steroids
It's nice to see Andy Serkis given more movie roles that didn't require a motion capture suit.
Yeah, I kinda dig him as the scrappy, world weary, Popeye-esque cook. He’s not just an incredible mo-cap actor but a genuinely compelling on-screen presence.
The worst thing the MCU has done so far is killing him off in Black Panther
It’s a shame he tend to die a lot quicker when you can see him... as him.
Best mo cap performance so far is Caesar.
I think I watched this movie like 7 times over the course of a 3 month period in 2013 and I liked it.
James said he loves Jack Black and he’s lying unless you do Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny
This movie is my main guilty pleasure. For some bizarre reason, I love all three movies they have crammed in here
"I could take or leave the big monkey stuff".
So... the King Kong parts of King Kong?
this movie, surfs up, and stardust are my all time favourites and I still have the nerve to judge others
“He has one eye, or maybe he’s just squinting”😂😂
lemon juice
😂😂
Now we patiently wait for a lord of the rings trilogy caravan of garbage
It's a movie about a big hairy beast. But enough about Jack Black. Let's talk King Kong!
HA GOTTEM
Godzilla vs tenacious D
I didn't know the guy from Jablinski Games was also an actor!
I remember playing the video game of this movie all summer when it came out. Even there, the sheet effort really showed with it easily being the best movie-adapted video game I've ever played.
Mason with that Silmarillion line, I swear. I love these two building on each other's setups. Brilliant.
Love the banter of these lads
@@saintniccage2818 And this editing complementing it, too. The synergy is something to behold.
It still genuinely impresses me how well a lot of the CGI and effects in this movie hold up for 2005.
There are still some...iffy moments here and there, the stampede scene is...probably the most infamous example, but a lot of it still looks great.
god I really love to hear you two dumbasses just giggle your way through films, y'all are so fucking underrated, always full of wit and dry humor, every video I see from you always makes me smile
^
Honestly, whenever I'm feeling down or something, I just watch an old Mr Sunday video that I haven't watched in a while & it always cheers me up. Love their humor & banter
And I love that they don't take the fandom stuff nearly as seriously as other UA-camrs that I've seen.
Big agree. Always lift my mood.
Their podcast is gold too
I love them
If you like mindless movies with rock em’, sock em’ action, cheesy dialogue and no lasting effect, this movie is not for you.
They should release this review on Jaz, an under appreciated storage medium for it’s time.
The extended edition of King Kong 2005 is one of my favorite films
This was the first movie that ever made me cry
I absolutely bawl at this movie every time
Free Willy got there first for me lol
For me, it was the first film I cried to in the theatre (I was 10).
I felt so guilty even though many kids in the room were crying as well LOL
Jackson squeezed as much life out this classic as narratively possible.
*I use that “butter over too much bread” line almost every day of my life...Happy Days!😄🧈🍞*
Maybe you should buy more butter, or get smaller bread.
Ironically the 2005 version was more thrilling and the scenes were more horrifying than the big CGI monke we get in later years
Although the Skull-Crawler was pretty impressive in the new Kong movie.
@@vice.nor.virtue I prefer the V-Redes over the Skullcrawlers tbh
Now that you’ve done this you MUST review all Peter Jackson Films like LORD OF THE RINGS AND THE HOBBIT
Well, they’re all on 4KHDR now so maybe when it gets closer to the 20th anniversary of fellowship
I want to see them do Meet the Feebles.
King Kong 2005 is a masterpiece.
I grew up watching the original with my grandparents, saw this in theaters as a teenager, and loved it.
I haven’t watched it very recently, but at the time it made me actually weep. I was enraptured, lol.
I also loved this movie when I watched
That’s Peter Jackson’s specialty lol
It too was the first film I cried at on the theatre. A good amount of my full house audience was too.
@@RYMAN1321 the ice skating scene though :((((
I saw this around my 12th birthday and i didnt even realise it was so long at the time. Just a solid film
I JUST realized that Godzilla vs Kong is the second time Kyle Chandler was in a King Kong movie
Fascinating. Was that before or after you were told that exact fact?
@@Doomchild2XL before unfortunately
Same, never realized it before
He’s one of those familiar faces that always pops up and adds depth to the story. Even when there’s giant monkeys and lizards
He is funny in Catch-22 hulu show
I think we can all agree that the real king kong 2005 - caravan of garbage is the friends we made along the way
"look at this..gorilla"
"very good, we love this"
This is one of my favorite UA-cam channels could honestly listen to these guys all day.
I saw this in theaters when I was 17 and I can’t remember being so enraptured by the action and wondering how much longer the movie could go on before in my life
Wait until James Cameron’s Avatar Extravaganza’s come out annually and you garbage those caravans. They’ll be the longest.
Thank you both for your light-hearted take on everything. Times are dark, and it's nice to escape that. Y'all rock.
I love that Ben's getting so much use out of WandaVision. I can't imagine any of the upcoming MCU series will be as context free relatable.
Perhaps the real "King Kong 2005 - Monkey Maclunkey" are the friends we made along the way.
You guys should do a caravan of garbage for The Frighteners. I love that movie and not many people talk about it
knowing the editor watches anime makes me happy
Weeb
@@australianwi-fi
Specifically, an anime weeb.
Some how, anime weebs are feeling uneasy with Tokusatsu weebs.
However, King Kong was eating and chewing humans way before Shingeki no Kyojin-Attack On Titan.
15 year old spotted
@@Ash01010 I'm 22 lmao
King Kong the musical is gold and no one can tell me otherwise.
I clicked in seconds😂😂
Edit: was hoping for a more positive review🥲
I love this movie😭😭😭
Honestly, apart from the super long runtime & a few noticeable effects/CGI criticism, this is one of their more positive reviews
King Kong 2005 is Just A Masterpiece ✨🖤
Do the 2002 Steve Irwin cheesy action movie Crocodile Hunter Collision Course
League of extraordinary gentlemen!!! Can’t get more 2003 than that
Ben's editing of these videos is always amazing
16:18 Henry cavill after reading his mission impossible script
Jamie Bell is just 2005 Tom Holland with a less good agent.
Oh, I hope they do king kong vs godzilla for caravan of garbage next week!
that bug sceen preticularly the bit where the guy is eaten by worms genuinely gave me PTSD when i saw that as a 7 year old i still genuinely see it too this day and still have issues with worms
Saying it here again, I saw it when I was 25 and on hospital drugs, and I still can't watch it. I can't even really THINK about it. I did have one single special effects neuron in my brain yelling "Andy's head didn't deform at all while the worm sucked down onto his face," and then every other neuron starts screaming "SHUT THE H3LL UP!!!!" Be safe my BigFish Taco-y friend! Avoid dem worms!
Ahh
@@wren7195 It's almost scarier that his face didn't deform. He's fucking suffocating while a worm slowly swallow his face more and more.
i particularly like how the worms' mouths extend out of their bodies like dog penises
The Piers Morgan placement was perfect 😂
I miss these kind of blockbusters now it's all superheroes.
This film is a fucking masterpiece. It’s my favorite film after Jurassic Park and I will defend it with my life. I love that it’s 3 hours long. Hell, I’d watch an 8 hour version of it.
I thought what I needed was to go to sleep, turns out what I really needed was to leave a like.
This movie also has a surprisingly good tie-in video game on the Playstation 2 and X Box.
Every time Ben puts in a clip from the Souvlaki Hut commercial, my heart smiles :)
The bug pit scene is the hardest thing to watch since the opening beach scene of Saving Private Ryan
Watch this movie on mushrooms. It’ll change your life
We need more of these level of monsterverse. Godzilla vs Gigan or Destroyah. While watching the movie, I thought it was too long for my kid. My kid pulled me when the movie moved to Brazil. He says "This is going to be epic". That just made me happy 😀 as a family we enjoyed it. The people who worked on the movie should be very proud that they made an amazing movie for the fans.
