P.S .....I did get a little confused when i seen caravan of garbage doing the matrix but heard the opening words on the video stating it dosent mean you dislike the movie or if it was a box office bomb etc.
Matrix did pioneer bullet time. Before that, there was dead time. Which is for example where at the beginning of the matrix trinity jumps in the air and it’s frozen as the camera pans around her. That’s the time. However bullet time was capturing at 500 frames a second over many cameras to actually have motion rather than it being a single frozen moment of time it’s slow motion. I just figured I’d mention that as prior to the matrix Dead time was highly overused on movies like lost in space and various other films, but the matrix introduced bullet time which really changed everything!… And then everyone copied it and we came in over you just give me as well ha ha… Great video guys!

One of the most influential and revolutionary films of all time. I've never seen a single movie that has been quoted, referenced, and parodied than this one has.
I’m convinced that Grant Morrison has received bonuses through DC Comics that are for this contributions to The Matrix without having to actually credit him for the story of The Matrix.
I honestly would hope he got paid handsomely because he’s responsible for the story of one of The greatest films ever made. His mind is the reason why we have the matrix in the first place.
I always thought that the mirror scene was particular to neo, that he had mentally got to a place, from the previous conversation with Morpheus and subsequent 'shock' of the room with its tech etc, that he was actually bending the Matrix, just like the spoon. He had taken a pill, was hooked up to medical gear, his mind was telling him it's not real, and so it stopped being real.
"Why couldn't they just tell Neo it was all a computer simulation?" They could, but what good would that make? Even if he believed them, where to go from there? He would never fully appreciate the implications unless he experienced the reality of it himself. Also, from a storytelling perspective, Neo is the audience's PoV character. It's important that things are *shown* to him, not just told, so that they're also shown to the audience - who, let's be honest, includes a fair amount of people who would have never understood the Matrix otherwise.
I remember having to explain the concept of alternate timelines and multiverses to someone just 10 or so years ago, to a person who's smart but not sci-fi savvy. But now, everything has multiverses and alternate timelines. The same was true of computer simulations when this movie was made, or even stuff like phone calls and automobiles and fire. New concepts always get picked up on by nerds and disseminated to the normies. (Prometheus was the ultimate nerd. 😆)
27:48 I always interpreted it as a kind of psychedelic experience brought on by the pill. He didn’t have to touch the mirror and get covered in metal, that was just his trip as he was leaving the matrix.
As someone who was too young to watch these when they came out and watching them for the first time like a year ago, they absolutely hold up. They are so damn cool
I always fought him on the tracks and jumped last minute to make it as close to the movie as I could. Also, when you fight smith in the final fight, you can jump when he flies through the wall and it plays an animated cutscene akin to how Neo jumps over Smith as he flies through said wall. I always thought that was cool that it’s not scripted and you only get it if you jump like in the movie.
11:11 god dang don't those moves just look so damn impressive even now? As in, actors who have done the hard work, done the training, nailed the choreography, all so you can have a chance to enjoy the fight scene with a single fast paced REAL uninterrupted shot of two characters fighting.
Saw this opening day in Brooklyn in the theater and there were only like five people in the audience with me. We all had LOW expectations - the trailers weren’t great- and we just wanted to see a sci-fi movie matinee. Our minds were BLOWN. After the movie we all gathered in the lobby and started geeking out about the film. We were strangers then, but some of us are still friends. I called all my friends (no real internet or texting then) and begged them to see the Matrix. I also got to see the film months later when it opening in Rotterdam - another amazing experience. But that… is another story.
I find myself rewatching your shows, and they are still enjoyable and funny. Well done for producing something interesting enough to be rewatched. On the Matrix I find it better each time I watch it, such a great film
My local cinema showed the first one for the 20th anniversary, was pretty neat because coincidentally I was born on the same day. Felt like it was especially for my birthday lmao
I was in Basic training when this move came out. It blew my mind. This was a pivotal moment in cinema. Going to watch the Matrix now, last time I did was in the theater. Thanks guys.
I can't even imagine a cyber criminal/ terrorist Sean Connery training computer hacker and nerd Will Smith into becoming Kung Fu kicking, bullet blocking Cyber Jesus.
I'd like there to be a sequence where Neo runs away rather than finishes off Smith and then he starts singing that song from Holy Grail: "Mr. Anderson ran away." "No!" "Naively ran away away." "I didn't!"
I think the question about dying irl might be related to the simulation and simulacrum theme stuff. You can be aware that systems and concepts in your society are made up or exist only because people believe or want them to, but they still have an impact on your life.
Long before the simulation theory was a thing, The Matrix instilled a deep sense of dread in 10 year old me that still persists to this day. I used to look in the mirror and think "Am I real? This isn't me, the body that is looking at me isn't me. I'm somewhere else." 10/10 movie, have and would watch again
I was lucky enough not to have heard anything about this film before I went to see it. It remain my favourite cinema experience to this day and there's been a few!!
The metrix, the dark city and the thirteen floor all 3 movies came out in the same year! And all 3 have kind of the same concept. Which is a great coincidence! Loved all 3 movies

The first time I saw the Matrix I was high, and it was one of the best movie experiences of my life.
Hahahahah no shit today after seeing matrix 4 trailer I decided to watch it for first time and did it high, was great and way better than I expected I can’t wait for the sequels
Thanks for all the laughs, James and Mason!
My god why has it taken me all these years to come upon this utterly awesome channel! I love the mix of straight up facts, sarcasm, personal opinions and razor sharp wit! Thanks again!
P.S .....I did get a little confused when i seen caravan of garbage doing the matrix but heard the opening words on the video stating it dosent mean you dislike the movie or if it was a box office bomb etc.
"The Matrix is still happening" "The Matrix is still with us in a way"
me: The Matrix Still Has You
Matrix did pioneer bullet time.
I recently rewatched this trilogy with someone who has never seen this and she loved it so I think it held up well
The Matrix is cool and all, but don't let that distract you from how Sydney is a garbage city.
More like Shitney
Can't wait for The Matrix: Return of the Special Boy.

_(The same actor that played "Mouse" in the Matrix.)_ 👍
One of the most influential and revolutionary films of all time. I've never seen a single movie that has been quoted, referenced, and parodied than this one has.
"I'm gonna do the matrix on this guy" how I will start every fight from now on
I’m convinced that Grant Morrison has received bonuses through DC Comics that are for this contributions to The Matrix without having to actually credit him for the story of The Matrix.
I honestly would hope he got paid handsomely because he’s responsible for the story of one of
The greatest films ever made.
His mind is the reason why we have the matrix in the first place.
He never pursued compensation, but stated he would have appreciated a thank you in the credits.
Howdy friends! Just so you know Morrisons pronouns are they/them
@@campbellmckenna9139 Thanks for letting us know, man. I'll be sure to refer to those pronouns whenever I'm talking about Grant Morrison.
Darkhorse Comics Comics
24:40 I thought you were going to say The Matrix is all about Big Kick Energy. Missed opportunity
Oh hell yea let’s go! The fight between Morpheus and Neo still genuinely holds up
Come on stop trying to hit me and hit me!
Matrix, the path of the blue pill: just a dating/life sim with this black dude who keeps harassing you.
This is just Tuesday
I always thought that the mirror scene was particular to neo, that he had mentally got to a place, from the previous conversation with Morpheus and subsequent 'shock' of the room with its tech etc, that he was actually bending the Matrix, just like the spoon.
He had taken a pill, was hooked up to medical gear, his mind was telling him it's not real, and so it stopped being real.
"Oops, my _anarchy_ symbol"
Someone in the other room: what was that? Is that the Matrix? Are you watching the Matrix?
"Why couldn't they just tell Neo it was all a computer simulation?"
They could, but what good would that make?
Neo doesn't just need to understand it; he needs to grok it.
And yes, it's a movie, it's a visual medium: show, don't tell.
this has aged so goddamn well. I saw it in theaters for its 20th anniversary and it has aged incredibly.
The real Matrix was the friends we made along the way
27:48 I always interpreted it as a kind of psychedelic experience brought on by the pill. He didn’t have to touch the mirror and get covered in metal, that was just his trip as he was leaving the matrix.
Thank god they’re back I was finding their lack of content disturbing
The subtle editing choices for clips in these episodes really sell it more unlike other youtubers that just play the same few clips repeatedly.
"Is this the origin of your famous segment Mini-Gun Minute? It could very well be!"
Terminator 2: Judgement Day has entered the chat.
Predator would like a word as well.
11:21 when Agent Smith kicks Neo at the "end" of that movement. Iconic!
On the 20th anniversary I got to see this movie in theaters for the first time and it was SOOOOOOO Much better.
I kind of want to read that lady's 'The Third Eye' book.
As someone who was too young to watch these when they came out and watching them for the first time like a year ago, they absolutely hold up. They are so damn cool
All of us here are eating very large giant sandwiches
The biggest of Big Sandwiches filled with bonzer content
I have a Big Sandwich subscription and I didn't know this came out yesterday oh noooo
At 5:21, when it's a picture of them at the movies, is that Dan Gruchy from slowmo guys in the middle?
I miss when they played games like on this one. Seeing them get frustrated is funny
KUDOS to including Grant Morrison in this!!! He brought together so many great ideas, one of the truly great creators of the last 50 years!!!
"He's gonna touch the mirror! Don't look at him.." hahaha
Ah yes, the first comment. That Big Sandwich subscription is finally paying off.
11:11 god dang don't those moves just look so damn impressive even now? As in, actors who have done the hard work, done the training, nailed the choreography, all so you can have a chance to enjoy the fight scene with a single fast paced REAL uninterrupted shot of two characters fighting.
Never watched The Matrix, still watching the video.
Watch the first one. It's a genuine classic.
That’s awesome! Are you planning a reunion for part 4?
@@mrsundaymovies that’s a great idea! We don’t all live in the same city any more, but some of us might be able to do it.
Nice!
I saw it for the first time in early 2020 in a movie theater, right before COVID. Can confirm it still rocks, even for newcomers.
I find myself rewatching your shows, and they are still enjoyable and funny. Well done for producing something interesting enough to be rewatched. On the Matrix I find it better each time I watch it, such a great film
15:58 this is some bonkers gaslighting
Glad you guys are back. Hope you’re time off was nice. We missed these
I love the Matrix Trilogy sm. Can't wait for the 4th one.
I believe it was Hugo Weaving that had an injury. Notice that Agent Smith throws NO KICKS !
I'd like there to be a sequence where Neo runs away rather than finishes off Smith and then he starts singing that song from Holy Grail:
"Mr. Anderson ran away."
"No!"
"Naively ran away away."
"I didn't!"
I'm somewhere else."
10/10 movie, have and would watch again
Born after this movie came out, never watched it until a year ago. I can confirm it holds up exceptionally well
Wow!!! Was that he dog ending of silent hill 2 at 2:12 ... you guys are so awesome. My favorite youtube channel by a mile for sure!!!
The thumbnail got a Neo-esque "whoa" out of me. Now I understand the point of going with that image.
Love the channel, I am a new subscriber to the pod, but I am burning through episodes while I'm on the job. Keep up the awesome work!
Out of the three the Thirteenth floor probably holds up the worst but it's a fun ride regardless
@@P07H34D true. That movie is more like a thriller. Not action. I still enjoy it.
Another movie with the same theme in the same year was David Cronenberg's *eXistenZ*
@@ThreadBomb yeah that movie is dope too! very mind benidng kind of things.
