They had made stop motion puppets that were going to be used in the movie, but instead would be used as the maquettes for the dinosaurs and other vicious creatures that were brought to life with CGI.

@CRTR_FTR69 Buddy marvel didn't create the concept of a kaiju being an anti heroic character so what does marvel have to do with this?. What legendary is doing with kong is what toho ALSO did with kong, did you forget king kong escapes exist? The early 2000s kong animated series as well?.
Hollywood has no agenda, if they did, every film would be the same but it's not. It's a sea of either good films, or bad films. Each one being good or bad for different or similar reasons. The MV works because it knows what it is and isn't making the same avoidable mistakes the mcu is making currently

Supposedly once Universal decided not to make King Kong, they used Jackson's script as the basis for The Mummy. This is why people who've read it say it reminds them of The Mummy. This is also why Jackson had to change things on the 05 film, such as tone, Jack being a battle fatigued, washed up veteran, and Ann being a British archaeologist's daughter.

Interestingly, after Jackson's 1996 attempt with Universal was canned; there was another attempt at the
    lost *"KING KONG"* remake known
as *"The Legend of KING KONG"*
which was to be produced by BBC Films with CBS & TNT (with a planned release in July 2000).
The planned £25 million TV movie
    would be using Bo Goldman's
    original 1975 script with actors
    Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neill,
    Rachel Weisz and Ian McShane
set to star in the film, and the SFXs
were to be done by George Lucas' ILM. Locations to be used for filming included London & New Zealand.
But alas, the TV film never came to be.

It's a shame this version didn't get made honestly. Granted, we wouldn't have seen the LOTR trilogy, but it still probably would gotten made following the success of Kong for Jackson. Considering Mighty Joe Young was a flop, and Godzilla '98's box office dropped with negative reviews, I feel Kong would've made it to the top as a hit in 1998. Too bad Universal didn't have faith in the project.

The script had some fun variations to the characters and exciting action sequences, but having Jack involved in trying to save Kong only to fail might have taken the winds out of audiences enjoying a fun and adventurous caper of a film.
Also, Miramax would have taken international distribution if it went through, so one wonders how that would have worked out with Miramax eventually going to Paramount. Still, this film and Jan De Bont’s Godzilla could have left an indelible impression of the iconic monsters in the 90s.

Which are two among a few other issues. That constantly gets lampooned for whenever someone talks about the movie. Especially older generations that hero worship the 1933 original movie. I really hope for King Kong 2005’s 20th Anniversary, AMC or theaters in general re-release it. I was too young to see it in 2005, but i would really love to see it in the big screen. Fingers crossed.

That snoozefest in 2005 was an abomination, this version could've been so much better. Thankfully we got a new version of the character in Legendary's Monsterverse, who is not boring or predictable.

Jack Black might've been cast as Carl Denham because, while not immediately obvious, Black does have a striking resemblance to Orson Welles when Welles was younger.

Would be a good time to cover David Lynch's Dune. Obviously the studio took the film away from him in the edit and hamstrung him throughout. But ive also read his first draft script and it was wildly different and very experimental, more like his other films or even Jodorowsky's version...

Now Jackson does just concentrate on visual effects and documentaries and hasn’t directed a feature film since the Hobbit: The battle of the five armies. In 2014.

And that's for the better. The Hobbit movies were overblown garbage made by a guy patting himself on the back (to put it mildly) while being surrounded by yes-men who made him think he's God's gift to cinema.

King Kong meant so much for me back then when I was a kid.
First playing the game on the PS2 which my uncle had gifted it to me, being absolutely hooked on the game. And then later my mom and I buying the movie after seeing it in a store.
Little kid me instantly realized that the movie looked heavily like the intro sequence that played at the beginning of the game, and thinking that they made the movie was inspired by the game. 😅
I love how the Kong now is in the Monster Verse and is fighting alongside Godzilla, but King Kong 2005 just hits in a different way.

Didn't know that even Kong was going to be made in 90s. How you even get all the information and footage is just amazing, but also deeply appreciated!
I thought I'd watch the video in morning, but ended up waking up in middle of the night to watch it.
You're already doing a great job! However, If it isn't by now, then i hope your channel soon grows big enough that you can invite the actual filmmakers and get more of their reasons and situations and disappointments on why these films were never made.
The filmmakers have given interviews on various other places, but this could be one dedicated channel. Would be very entertaining!

You know what I would REALLY be dying to see? A crossover of Kong and Planet of the Apes. I'm pretty sure at least one guy in Hollywood during the 90's had that idea when Jackson was conceiving his original version... and it probably would have been better than the 2001 Tim Burton version of POTA.

    Here's a future idea for a video:
*"The Early Concepts for RAMBO IV"*
Before the release of the 2008 film: *"RAMBO"* aka *"JOHN RAMBO"*
(the film's title for the Director's Cut), written & directed by "John Rambo"
himself, Sylvester Stallone; there had been numerous ideas & concepts between 1988-1992 that were at one point considered.
One of which was entitled *"RAMBO: The Black Forest"* where Rambo is working with Greenpeace fighting against what Stallone called "nature criminals".
    Another concept written by Stallone
in the early 1990s was to have
Rambo return to his home town and meet his brother who's the sheriff
but due to his involvement in 'Nam
and the previous three films, he
gets kicked out. But Rambo comes
    back when criminals his brother
sent in jail would escape during a
large hurricane and plot to kill him.
Other villains that Rambo were to
    be up against included terrorists,
right wing militia, a white supremacy group, biker gangs, international
drug dealers and meth dealers. Interestingly, one concept for the
    fourth film, with Rambo rescuing
a girl from the Mexican cartel would
be used for the fifth film, *"RAMBO:*
    *Last Blood"* in 2019.
