      In the Imperial period, the Romans executed lots of people by letting them get gored and killed by wild animals in the Colosseum. Sometimes the shows would be designed to replicate mythological stories, sometimes not. A lot of early Christian martyrs were killed this way, like Perpetua, who was gored and trampled by a mad cow.

      ( and I'm paraphrasing here)

      @@BoleDaPole lets be real: Lucas wrote that JUST to justify having Yoda partake in a lightsaber duel.
      Its always made zero sense that Force practitioners as powerful as Palpatine and Yoda would ever need to use lightsabers, which is why they dont have them in the OT

      But i will concede that the OPs idea of Yoda using a saber out of the blue on the clones wouldve been pure badass. Leaves you wondering just WHAT he's really capable of if he's pushed....as opposed to seeing him bounce around like a meth'd out muppet dueling a man 4 times his height

    • @HabitualJoker

    • @thedefinitionisthis
      @thedefinitionisthis 2 роки тому +41

      It definitely is in contention as one of the best, most beautiful compositions of Williams' work on Star Wars. However, unlike "Duel of Fates" which has the luxury of being set up to dazzling fight scenes & action, "Across the Stars" has the unfortunate luck of being juxtaposed with scenes between Anakin & Padme, who unfortunately don't have any romantic chemistry. While the music itself is beautiful, it sucks that it plays a role of having to remind you that we're supposed to be buying this romance, when honestly it just doesn't work. Maybe that was John Williams' intention though lol. He saw the footage of Hayden & Natalie, and was like "Okay, I gotta salvage this", and went hard with this amazing love theme.

    • @MegaTech81
      @MegaTech81 2 роки тому +12

      It's Anakin's dark deeds for me. Some dude made a super cut of scenes throughout the Skywalker saga but replaced the music with Anakin's dark deeds. Incredibly, it fits in around 80% of the most memorable scenes in the franchise.

    • @DragonRebelRose

We don't need to have all this random stuff explained to us, just that the ark is powerful, its mysterious and simple. Temple of Doom is overly complicated and spends most of the film just in one place. You know what's funny about Shmi's death and the effects it has on Anakin?
    There's literally no reason for him to believe that she was still a slave for all that time. He never blames himself for not freeing her, not on screen at any rate. He never blames the Jedi for not freeing her, or not letting him go and free her. He blames the Tuskens for killing her, and himself for not being able to save her.
    I can't think of any good reason, considering all that, why Anakin couldn't know that his mother was freed by Lars. We can make the Jedi look well-meaning but ineffectual by having them send somebody to pick up Shmi, only to find that she's already been freed, then shrug and go "Ah well, no point in hanging around here now" and report back. If Anakin mentions his nightmares to Obi-Wan, and Obi-Wan just tells him: "Your mother is safe, don't worry about it, remember to let go of attachment" then what really changes in Anakin's motivation? He can still make the choice to abandon his protection duties and jet off to Tatooine; he didn't go there to free Shmi, but because he was having prophetic nightmares about her. It's not like he was likely to go and visit her as a free woman, when he never managed to get time to visit her when he thought she was a slave, promise to free her be damned.

      Admittedly this part is a big vague in the film but thankfully gets covered in the Episode II novelisation ,
      but from what we can assume from the film is that Anakin didn't feel a need to free his mother as she worked for Watto doing basic domestic labor, and was later freed.
      We can also assume that he could feel she was happy or content, because he felt her pain later on which made him go find her.
      I'm sure he would've wanted to go back home but he was far too busy training to become a Jedi.
      It's almost like the film is trying to teach us about sacrifice , idk 🤷‍♂️

      I don't think freeing slaves was the job the Jedi. It is clear in the first episode that not even Padme could free her, even though she had political power. Qui-gonn and Obi Wan see all the slaves in Tatooine but do nothing about it because in a way they exist to uphold the current political order. They are not just "guardians of the galaxy" in a trite sense where any wrondoing is punished by them. They are still an arm of the Republic and tatooine is run by mafia-like people that are very difficult to uproot, just like on planet Earth. In a way, part of the Jedi training was letting go of attachment regardless of whether the people you are attached to during childhood are safe or not. I mean, letting go of attachment is not only "I let go when I know they are safe" but also the opposite, "I let go even though I know they are in pain", which can instil fear and anger into a Jedi etc etc...

Anakin asks Obi-Wan to sneak off and buy something while he stalls/distracts Padme. Hilarious antics ensue, as Obi-Wan attempts to purchase a bit of weed from some shady buyers; the deal goes bad and Obi-Wan ends up on a wild goose chase which ultimately gets him kidnapped. While waiting, Anakin becomes desperate for ways to stall Padme and eventually resorts to visiting family with Padme. The plan goes foul when Anakin realizes that he hadn't visited his family in so long that they'd all since died. Anakin eventually confesses the truth to Padme, who forgives him. They then try to find and rescue Obi-Wan, but those wacky characters end up getting kidnapped themselves. They're then forced to perform a desert-themed circus act. They're not prepared, but manage to pull it off through sheer willpower and confidence! They think they're out of the woods, until they're tasked with one more challenge; a dance-off with dance master Count Dooku. They try their best, but Dooku has the better hand. It looks like the end until suddenly, Yoda, the amazing tiny trapeze artist shows up and defeats Dooku. Anakin ultimately gives Padme the gift of an unplanned pregnancy, resulting in them getting married and living happily ever after!

      Count Dooku is publicly leading the Separatists (an alliance of various leaders in the republic who wish to secede). Palpatine is leading the Republic, and wants to pass the military creation act to create a military for the republic. Secretly, Palpatine and Dooku are working together to start a large war between the separatists and the republic. Dooku has the Separatists making a droid army, while Palpatine is trying to pass the previously mentioned military creation act.
      Senator Padme leads a coalition in the senate that opposes the Military Creation Act, so Palpatine has to get rid of her. He tells Dooku to kill her, so Dooku hires Jango Fett who hires a shapeshifter who tries to kill Padme. Padme is not killed, but she is exiled to Naboo for the protection.
      At the same time, Obi-Wan finds out that Jedi Master Sifo Dyas had commissioned a clone army in secret, and that the Separatists are making a droid army. Obi-Wan tells this to the Republic Senate, but gets captured by Dooku. Dooku tells Obi-Wan in captivity that a Sith Lord (Palpatine) is controlling both sides. I do not know why he would tell Obi-Wan this, it is contrary to his entire plan.
      Because of the droid army and Obi-Wan's capture, the Republic Senate votes to give Palpatine emergency powers to activate the Clone Army as the republic's army. Without Padme's opposition, it passes, and the Republic declares war on the Separatists.

    I think people don't give enough credit to some of the creativity in this film, especially on Geonosis with the battle at the end. You've got a desert world that feels different to Tatooine, flying bug people, each of the arena monsters feel very unique. Even Kamino, it's not just a water world of fish people that you see in countless sci fi stories, the people have long necks and the buildings are on stilts, with a harsh white interior. The ST had some cool ideas like the salt planet Crait and the junk planet Jakku, but a lot of the worlds just felt bland.
    The Obi-wan plot is good. It's really the Anakin/Padme Romance that really drags the movie down to most people. But when I first saw this as a kid, I was at that age where it seemed like *all* movies had a "boring talking bit" before you got to the good stuff.

He was supposed to have all this gear specifically designed to even the odds against a force sensitive opponent. He’s so good at what he does that an entire army of his clones were made to be the supreme fighting force in the galaxy. He’s killed multiple Jedi, both light and dark, but just blindly flails about in this fight. Is it because Obi-Wan has plot armor?
