Hey man, can you put this full tutorial on patreon. Can't seem to find it there
It's already there. Will have to scroll down a little, was posted april 30. Hope that helps
glad to listen to some synthwave while watching the tutorial
These vids where you do the mesh in Maya and textures in SD are my fav.
Awesome!
Finally, a tutorial with great taste in music. Great tutorial, btw. Cheers!
Hey, thanks!
Thank you so much, I never looked into mesh linking in Substance Designer. This opens up some ideas I was trying to solve in Substance :)
Awesome!
i never knew this is the same workflow when I'm doing out of speedtree. still good.
Yes very cool for learn to make the trees ! 👌
Thank you!
Thanks for the great tutrial and amazing music.
Glad it was helpful!
THANK YOU! I wanted to learn how to make a tree FOREVER! Could you make a slower more detailed tutorial on how to make a tree with loads of small leaves? Not like a pine but a regular bushy tree? Thanks so much! :D
yes i agree with you
S please...
Want that too.
If he hasn't already made one then I can give you a quick tip, it's exactly the same, you just use a leaf texture but have more density and rotate each leaf cluster so when you are spectating it from an angle they don't disappear
@@1989johno Thanks for the reply even if it's a year later. This is always good to know :)
Superb work!
Thank you!
your channel is among the coolest channels on Ytube and your art is wow
Thank you!!
Super useful technique, thanks!!
Glad it was helpful!
Very hard this job, very good!
Very cool work
Thank you!
Dude just modeled a tree...that's.... impressive. I mean...I'm still pretty new to modeling but...I'm pretty sure there's a program made specifically for trees because they're so difficult to make and make look natural.
I applaud you sir.
Thank you, there aren't many programs for making stylized trees unfortunately. Mostly for realistic ones.
@@3dextrude True, true. Still. This is impressive
I would love to watch some slowed down versions of your tutorials, your work inspires me to be as good as you are one day. I would gladly pay for your tutorials videos explaining each step that you do.
The normal speed videos are uploaded to Patreon, but they are not narrated though.
@@3dextrude Is it something you would be interested in doing in the future or not possible? p.s: Joined Patreon. xD
@@3dextrude Would be awesome to see a similar character tutorial that you did some time ago.
Welcome to Patreon! I don't know if I will make narrated videos so I don't want to make promises on that.
you are the guy!
thank you bro , your lessons is very very very good
Thank you!
youre amazing
Thank you Ruby!
Please make tutorial on substance design part i wanna learn node base creating my own texture love Ur work... And waiting for more such awesome videos.

how did you make the low poly leaves as the movement for the high poly leaves? Great video btw, amazing process!
How do you convert the mesh to an alpha like that, I can't find any video on how to do it. Excellent time lapse!
gonna try it out myself
Let us know how it goes!
@@3dextrude i actually did try the stylized plants one and it worked out great. Much much better than procedural solutions. Will let you know soon, thanks again for sharing
nice
Thanh you
Автор, спасибо за урок! Вы - крутан, и канал у вас крутанский (=
Thank you!
Can you put the music used in the description for future videos?
How to bake alpha from highpoly mesh ?
does the low res mesh disappear in areas where the high res isn't baked? at 5:21
How do you do a turnaround in maya such as how many frames
Not sure if there exists something like Normalthief (Max) or Transfer Normals (Modo) in Maya but I highly recommend it for any tree or bush to get the best out of the shading. :-)
There is a way to transfer normals in Maya
i can not believe that you did one by one put all together, it takes too much time. i thought it would use some cloner effect or something. :/
but the final result so cool man, great job !
There probably is a way to not do it so manually, but it really didn't take that long to do.
Wait so how did you create tree extrusions so quickly in the beginning? Did you have to snap to the cylinder to the curve to extrude? Or is there a shortcut method now?
It's an extrude on surface using a nurbs circle and extruding it along a curve.
hey man, could you do a tutorial on how you go from maya to substance designer? Or do you have an item on your gumroad where you explain the process? Thanks!
Not currently. I am working on an in-depth course which will cover this. More details to come in the future
What do you use to render out the last turn table? is it Iray in SP or Arnold in Maya?
Turntable is done in Marmoset Toolbag
thats really nice is it gonna be in out soon ?
Already available on Patreon or Gumroad.
What's the name of the first song???
why did you make the first pine tree cone an instance in the duplicate special options? I appreciate this tutorial, but the quality would greatly improve if you slowed it down and explained what you are doing. Including the hot keys.
It was just in case I later decides to make changes to the main shape. I didn't really do any changes afterwards so it wasn't really necessary for them to be instanced. Duplicating works just fine.
i am trying to extrude the curve but it is not working, it does not extrude along the line, it makes a weird short rectangular object
Could be that you need to increase the U and V amount to get the full shape to show up
puedes hacer pero despasio no entiendo rapido
Is this ok for games? Usually carda are used for this.
You could use this to render out the image for the cards.
hi, i have this message when bake opacity "Baking failed (Opacity Mask from Mesh)
UV set 0 doesn't exist". i use blender for modelling and i don't understand if you unrwapped the uv for the high poly mesh before export in substance
That means you don't have uvs for the low poly. Only the low poly model needs uvs. If Blender uses different sets make sure your uvs are on set 0
@@3dextrude hi, tahnx for response, i unwrapped the low poly. I noticed that I didn't assign any material to the low model and to the high one, can that be the problem?I saw that in the tutorial your low mesh has a lambert material... I attach picture, I don't know where I went wrong i.ibb.co/89KB4kV/problema-bake-sd.jpg
@@3dextrude i solved, thanks for the reply anyway!! :D
so on texturing can i do this on substance painter?
Yes, you can do the texture with Painter
Can you add a download link? I would like to use it, ill add credit to your UA-cam channel
Hey I keep trying aover and over again, but no matter what I do when I bring the high poly mesh into substance painter, none of the detail is baked on to the leaves.
Check for overlapping uvs since sometimes it doesn't bake if you those; just offset overlapping ones by 1 in the uv quadrant. If that's not the issue double check the naming between low and high poly if you are baking based on mesh name.
@@3dextrude All the UVs are on separate quadrants and its not the naming, when I bring it into substance its like the high poly model doesn't line up with the low poly, I see a small tip of my baked texture on one leaf. Thoughts on how I could fix it?
@@qhussleburneraccount5266 oh in that case try to increase the Max frontal or rear distance slider from the bake settings
the extrusion worked this time, I forgot to click some of the options in the extrusion screen :,)
nice
hey please if you start to do realistic i wanna support you.! or if you know someone who makes realistic , please inform me:D thank you, your works are really beautiful
Polygon Academy does some pretty good realistic things
How do you do the 360º render?
I use marmoset toolbag turntable for that
@@3dextrude thx
круто! как рендерить в майа?
Нихуевый такой вопрос (справедливо)
arnold
@@MainDoodler я перефразирую как применить файлы из программы в майа?
Kind of feel like it would have been faster to just draw the 2d elements.
part of the benefit of going through substance is your generating lots of maps. you get your ambient occlusion, height, normals, from that substance designer burn. It adds a lot of the 3d depth that would be hard to replicate from a painted card, while still giving you the freedom of a stylized expression
I watched this hoping it was not done the slow and manual way of placing individual leaves lol
sorry!
Why not just use painter
You could too
more control doing it in maya.
Sa
lots lots of steps.....
More than in houdini?😁
That music was awful.. had to mute. Awesome tree though!!
:( :)
