      If he hasn't already made one then I can give you a quick tip, it's exactly the same, you just use a leaf texture but have more density and rotate each leaf cluster so when you are spectating it from an angle they don't disappear

    Dude just modeled a tree...that's.... impressive. I mean...I'm still pretty new to modeling but...I'm pretty sure there's a program made specifically for trees because they're so difficult to make and make look natural.

      Thank you, there aren't many programs for making stylized trees unfortunately. Mostly for realistic ones.

    Not sure if there exists something like Normalthief (Max) or Transfer Normals (Modo) in Maya but I highly recommend it for any tree or bush to get the best out of the shading. :-)

      There probably is a way to not do it so manually, but it really didn't take that long to do.

    Wait so how did you create tree extrusions so quickly in the beginning? Did you have to snap to the cylinder to the curve to extrude? Or is there a shortcut method now?

      It's an extrude on surface using a nurbs circle and extruding it along a curve.

    why did you make the first pine tree cone an instance in the duplicate special options? I appreciate this tutorial, but the quality would greatly improve if you slowed it down and explained what you are doing. Including the hot keys.

      It was just in case I later decides to make changes to the main shape. I didn't really do any changes afterwards so it wasn't really necessary for them to be instanced. Duplicating works just fine.

    hi, i have this message when bake opacity "Baking failed (Opacity Mask from Mesh)
    UV set 0 doesn't exist". i use blender for modelling and i don't understand if you unrwapped the uv for the high poly mesh before export in substance

      That means you don't have uvs for the low poly. Only the low poly model needs uvs. If Blender uses different sets make sure your uvs are on set 0

    Hey I keep trying aover and over again, but no matter what I do when I bring the high poly mesh into substance painter, none of the detail is baked on to the leaves.

      Check for overlapping uvs since sometimes it doesn't bake if you those; just offset overlapping ones by 1 in the uv quadrant. If that's not the issue double check the naming between low and high poly if you are baking based on mesh name.

      @@3dextrude All the UVs are on separate quadrants and its not the naming, when I bring it into substance its like the high poly model doesn't line up with the low poly, I see a small tip of my baked texture on one leaf. Thoughts on how I could fix it?

      part of the benefit of going through substance is your generating lots of maps. you get your ambient occlusion, height, normals, from that substance designer burn. It adds a lot of the 3d depth that would be hard to replicate from a painted card, while still giving you the freedom of a stylized expression
