I’m the young girl in the video and I’m now 56 years old! I will never forget just how truly beautiful Kiki Dee was to me as a starstruck teenager when I met her, she insisted I shared her space to get ready when they said I’d not be allocated a changing area and Id have to use the toilets, she was so kind to me,I hardly spoke from shyness and I must have seemed a little rude looking back 😂Great memories for me to have ❤thank you Kiki xxx
👍She performed in Sussex a few years ago, I bought tickets but got unwell and couldn’t attend 😕I hope to see her sing live again at some point, the ladies I the gave tickets to said she was as brilliant as ever and looked beautiful ! X
Why would it be? The US has no musical pedigree or taste, they gave us the like us Muckdonna, Bon Jovi, Starship, only understand country, c/rap (which ain't music) power ballads and tuneless metal. Anything that is melodious and can't be boxed into their basic idea of what's acceptable, forget it. They tuned out from almost all the wonderful things the 80s produced, while accepting the basic and overrated. F America, they're crazy and proud of it too!
My mother in the early 80s used to be a hairdresser in London with her own salon and I remember this song and Abba playing on the radio. My mother passed away 9th November 2018 and this brings back lovely memories and a tear to my eye when I hear it. God Bless everyone and wish you well.
Your mum sounds like a lovely lady. Was in many hairdressers in North London in the 80s and yes this song brings back memories! Your mum made a lot of folk happy every day when they walked out of her salon I bet! Much love x
Kiki has been making records since 1963 yet it took her 10 years to get her first hit. Beautiful woman with an amazing voice, very underrated. Listen to her records and experience true talent with none of that auto-tune crap we get today.
I love it. She is great. I imagine it was way too close to Video killed the radio star. I would conclude as the business is a business, they were going for the winning formula of the day. ABBA influence for sure here, and Video killed the radio star.
Kiki Dee! One of the best EVER Female Talents we ever had in the UK! I grew up listening to her, and especially this song! I so wish she had gone on, and kept going. Because she was AMAZING! I miss her so much!
I will personally get this video past a million views...Lovely woman with an amazing voice, great songs, killer production and band, in the thick of the 70's art/prog/fantasy zeitgeist.
I had a crush aged 17 on Kiki when this came out (She would be mid-30’s then) Looking at this video nearly 40 years later I can see why! Gorgeous looking lady with a great voice.
It's fantastic to see the piano player, here!! I remember this hit from a cassette tape my Dad found in a pothole on our lane, back in 1982(!!!) - part of a Ronco Hits Collection - he thought I might be interested in it, & boy, was he right?!
Great song, great looking woman for sure , its a real pity we didnt have U tube in the 80s as all us guys would have fallen in love with the beautiful singers,, god i had great times in the 80s. Great time to be around greetings from Westport Ireland
We didn't have UA-cam but you could record all your favourite music videos onto VHS videotape from music shows on TV. I've still got a video from 1983 with music videos.
Blast from the past. Forgotten all about this track but one of my faves from growing up. Kiki Dee was always on the box and this track always stuck in my head as one of her best.
First heard this song, seeing the video in 1981 when I was 17. It was even played at the end on the last MOTD programme, highlighting the 80/81 Season. My Team being relegated with all guns blazing.Get a huge Lift when I still hear it. Absolutely Brilliant ! You will always be a Star Kiki 🌟
This song - upon first hearing- was stuck in my head. I was a teen and went out that day and bought the single on vinyl. Brilliant track and beautiful voice by Kiki Dee… ❤
It was used as the theme to a late-1980s revival of Opportunity Knocks on the BBC hosted by Bob Monkhouse, and later by previous winner Les Dawson. New Faces was a similar format show but was broadcast by ITV.

Kiki has such a great beautiful voice with an intense range of nuance. Not so long ago I discovered the much talented girl and the fabulous woman behind Elton's Don’t Go Breaking My Heart. Certainly you have had an amazing career. You’re brighter than a star far away from the noisy troublesome world 💫
I agree and the duet with Elton is probably the song she is best known for . I love this song as well . Last week I watched the 1980 movie Stir Crazy with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor and to my surprise Kiki sings the closing song .
This song takes me back to the movie "Girls just wanna have fun" I rented it nearly every week! Love it

Well I wasn’t as old as 15 as I recall Thomas and it’s definitely me 😄and I’m 57 this coming January, 56 now 2024 . Anyway, what ever my age was , with hindsight it was a real privilege to have been part of such a wonderful video. Best wishes
Back in the early 90s I ran an optician’s in Covent Garden. Kiki Dee came in looking at glasses, she gave her name as Pauline Matthews and several of my staff were whispering saying “is it or isn’t it Kiki Dee, “quietly between them as they weren’t sure. She must of heard them as the gentleman with her said in a quiet voice but so they could hear “Don’t go breaking my heart” and she said back “I couldn’t if I tried” and they both smiled. After her eye test they were really lovely to my staff when choosing glasses.
This takes me back to being in hospital with a broken leg. I just remember the cleaners coming on the ward and putting on hospital radio and this song came on. I wasn't sure who it was by, so my goal for that day was to find the singer. Obviously I succeeded, that's how I'm here!
Miss the great music late 70s/ early 80s, BA Robertson, Cloud, Racey, Suzi Quatro. Would be listening while playing with the Hornby Train set, subbuteo or maybe scalextric
Kiki Dee COULD have been as HUGE as Stevie Nicks or Pat Benatar if she was properly managed. She's got the pipes to sing hard Rock and Roll! I'm a songwriter and I have many songs that would have been PERFECT for Kiki Dee.
Great song that should have been a major hit. Kiki had a great voice. She should have been much bigger that she was, but instead she existed on the fringes of stardom while far less talented performers attained loftier status. She looks so hot in this clip too.

Lovely story, you know before i read the comments i thought i wonder where that girl is now, and there was your comment 😊
Ahh thank you,how kind of you to comment and what a coincidence, it only seems like yesterday that’s the scary thing! Best wishes John
You're so welcome, I've just turned 50 myself and remember this when i was young, now I'm older i appreciate good music like this more 😊
I'm not surprised love this song ❣️
👍She performed in Sussex a few years ago, I bought tickets but got unwell and couldn’t attend 😕I hope to see her sing live again at some point, the ladies I the gave tickets to said she was as brilliant as ever and looked beautiful ! X
I’ll never understand why this fantastic song was not a hit in the US!
Me to
There is a lot of great stuff that didn't make a mark in the US. This song was incidentally written by Doreen Chanter, now we're talking underrated.

I was there in the 80s with the same music and I am sure your mum loved the music, respect to her, 🙏👍🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶

One of the finest singers the UK has ever produced
Woke up singing this song! Great voice.
How do you know a Bradford girl is having an orgasm? She drops her chips.
I simply cannot understand why this outstanding song had absolutely NO IMPACT in the U.S. - such a GREAT SONG
Kiki failed with Motown as well sadly.
🙏⚘🌿💜🌿⚘🙏
I love it. She is great. I imagine it was way too close to Video killed the radio star. I would conclude as the business is a business, they were going for the winning formula of the day. ABBA influence for sure here, and Video killed the radio star.
You could say that for quite a few songs, punchy melodies are more a UK think in general.
Apparently yank’s don’t appreciate good music. What talent have they got that could match. KIKI ❤️❤️
Hi my aunt wrote this song for her so always brings back memories for me 💕
What an honour to write song for artist to sing brillint song.
How amazing. What a piece of history. Great song!

@@MyMagyarorszag It's all Greek to me...
This was the theme tune to opportunity knocks in the 80s. I knew I had heard it before. I think it is a underrated song, really good.

Kiki is underrated. Amoureuse is a great song.
agreed 100%
check out her 60s stuff, fantastic
She's a bit of a chameleon as well, her looks changed dramatically over the years.
Why?
from Véronique Sanson's "Amoureuse'
Having a 80s night, Kiki Dee is magnificent
Abbsolultey magic, still in 2023 proper music.

Superb voice, when music was great.
I am a Soul and Rap head, but when a song is good, that's just it, IT's GOOOOOD. It has that Video killed the Radio Star-vibe.
Why was this lady not one of the biggest stars on the planet??
Always remember this as the intro for New faces on the BBC
It was used as the theme to a late-1980s revival of Opportunity Knocks on the BBC hosted by Bob Monkhouse, and later by previous winner Les Dawson. New Faces was a similar format show but was broadcast by ITV.

Why isn’t this seen as an 80s classic. You never hear it.
I did hear it on gold radio a couple of weeks ago, but that was the first time I've heard it on the radio in years! It's a forgotten 80s gem :)
Beautiful woman. She still looks good today.
My cup of tea.
Always makes me happy when i hear this tune
I think Kiki Dee is from Bradford - just up the rd from me. Great singer and song
What a pretty breathtaking woman ,hello my sweetheart ?
Too young to have watched Opportunity Knocks but I do remember hearing this.
Everytime I hear Kiki Dee I often expect Elton John to come in at any moment
Soul and rock mixed. Great performer
