It’s beyond me why this wasn’t a massive hit and Kiki a superstar. So many talentless artists landed top positions in the charts with some crap while gems like this got more or less unnoticed.
Originally a song in the French language, but translated very successfully into the English language. Who could possibly have sung it more beautifully than the amazing Kiki Dee? This song was hers from the very start. What a truly lovely, talented lady. Thank you so much, Kiki Dee.
The only part kept from the original french song written, composed, sung by Véronique Sanson..."Je ressens la pluie d'une autre planète". The english lyrics are good but the french lyrics are much better.
Written by Véronique Sanson (who married Steven Stills), this is an amazing song sung by a beautiful artist. I was totally in love with Kiki when this came out.
"Entranced" is exactly the word. I had my first listen to this today. Here I am some 9 hours later and still can't get it out of my system. It's hauntingly stunning.
Extraordinary to think that she had already been around for 8 or 9 years before she had her first big hit. Kiki always said that she was so proud to have performed on Top of the Pops and that her mum and dad were still with her to see her achieve success. Incidentally Paul McCartney also appeared in this episode. She sings this flawlessly. Beautiful singer and beautiful song.
@@john111257 SHE DIDN'T MAKE THIS SUPERB MUSIC AND WORDS BUT VERONIQUE SANSON (FRENCH) DID. "AMOUREUSE" . IT'S NOT NECESSARY TO SPEAK FRENCH. JUST LISTEN TO. ANYWAY KIKI DEE IS A SUPERB WOMEN WITH A GREAT VOICE.
They still do- Adele, Lady Gaga, Beyonce , Alicia Keys, Celine Dionne. The list of talented and successful current female soloists is a very long one, and longer than it has ever been before. Denigrating the present day by ignoring the positives that still exist is a recipe for unhappiness.
Check out the album she did for Motown. Kiki's voice was so captivating, the son of someone at Motown who had heard her in the UK told them about her. Motown was high on her and brought her to Detroit for a few weeks to record nearly enough for two albums. Kiki sad she enjoyed her time there. Was listening to that album today and it brought me here to find her other songs. This one. Wow. I started listening to this about 9 hours ago and I keep having to play it over and over. What an amazing, beautiful, voice. Kiki is a beautiful person.
Kiki did backing vocals for many other better known singers. I think Kiki like some other good voices/talents, didn't get the industry fully behind her, for whatever reason, to help realize her potential.
OMG I didn't realise Kiki sang this!! A song that's been forever with me since my youth and often a tune that would never leave my head.. She's a good singer mind. Strong, crisp and clear.
I heard this song back in the day, I thought it was so beautiful it brought a tear, this girl can and is the best be to do this record, she has got the right voice, for such a beautiful song.Even today I can still get emotional when ever I listen on u tube.
I know, where have I been. I just heard this song, I think on Radio 2 as someone's playlist... It is truly beautiful and is on my playlist for others to discover, to enjoy and to share, of course 💕
Michel
The French have taken thousands of Anglo/American songs and done French versions of them, now the other way round, from Veronique Sanson's classic hit. This is really good and just as moving. Love it.
There are at least two different sets of English lyrics for this song, the version called "Emotion" was a fair-sized hit for Helen Reddy here in the States.
It’s beyond me why this wasn’t a massive hit and Kiki a superstar. So many talentless artists landed top positions in the charts with some crap while gems like this got more or less unnoticed.
No tattoos, no piercings and no twerking just good ol' fashioned talent. What went so wrong with music?
Her voice is actually perfect. I hear the story through her emotion, breathtaking.
This is probably the greatest Top of the Pops performance due to the fact that it's all live....beyond stunning!!!!
Reached number 13 in the charts.Great vocals - no electronic trickery just pure talent.
Lovely song sung by a lovely singer. Light years above a lot of today's mediocrity.

Song written and performed originally by Véronique Sanson ... great French artist ua-cam.com/video/7R7jKiOMCqo/v-deo.html
well said
She is singing in that live, not like these days, no auto tune no dancers around her, just her, that is talent, brilliant!
Listen to Véronique Sanson version, you will see the original version...another dimension !!!
In the blink of an eye 50yrs back in time, what a song, but what a singer, wonderful, thank you Kiki.
That was one of the most beautiful songs of the 1970s
Yes, very good Kiki Dee. Song belong to Veronique Sanson! 👍
Can’t believe this lovely lady is 73 now- and still touring!
There is an old saying that "They don't write them like that anymore".
This track from Kiki Dee proves it.
Lovely song.
‘I feel the rainfall of another planet’ Gives me goosebumps.
That is a good line. Lots of cliches elsewhere though. Still, beautiful tune, beautiful voice.
Kiki Dee interprète merveilleusement la chanson de Véronique Sanson! J'en ai les larmes aux yeux ! 🥲
@TerrenLiberté From France to Bradford eh?

Was entranced by this song back in '73. Still am entranced! Beautiful song!
marty : A beautiful song, beautifully sung; like you, I first heard this in 1973, and I still love it... it gives you goosebumps.

Loved this song and Kiki was so hot then😎
By far, the original one is my favourite. Amoureuse by Véronique Sanson
Fabulous 😉
@@lukehallinan9966 🔥 beautiful lady with the most gorgeous voice.
This brings back so many memories of my first girlfriend. My first heartbreak.
A very unusual live non-mimed performance from a to quality artiste,
A mate worked in showbiz(now retired) and dealt often with Kiki. Totally professional and she’s an all round decent person apparently..
The good old days when ladies had talent. Where the hell is that time machine?
They still do- Adele, Lady Gaga, Beyonce , Alicia Keys, Celine Dionne. The list of talented and successful current female soloists is a very long one, and longer than it has ever been before. Denigrating the present day by ignoring the positives that still exist is a recipe for unhappiness.
This is the gold standard of performance and song. Beautiful lyrics, music and singer. A totally moving experience and I don't why it makes me cry...
My parents bought 6 cassette of easy listening songs,,,this was on it,,, about 13 years old listening via my walkman player,,,48 now!
a highly talented and most underrated singer, could listen to that voice all day and no auto tune in those days
Tony Blackburn in 1973 presenting TOTPs. What a great live vocal of a song that strangely didn't even reach top 10. A no.1 for sure.
Stunning tune and lyrics! beautifully sung! beautiful Lady!
Classic
How have I never heard this before - What a stunning voice Kiki has, going to have a look at her back catalouge - Why was she not a bigger success?

Ashamed to say I didn't realise just how talented and beautiful this girl was.
Breathtaking
Most beautiful voice and woman from that time.
Massively underated Singer and Song
I love this song so much she is so pretty I’m only 36 (born in 1983) but I used to hear it on the radio in the mornings getting ready for school!
OMG I didn't realise Kiki sang this!!

This song could have written for me and the Love of My Life I was 19 he 21 in '73 I still love him
feels exactly the same for me... 1974..I was 17 from Holland and he was 24 from London..
Same for me, I was 17 he was 19 back in 78.
Same here I was 21 and she 19 when we split in 1977
Did you marry him or is it just looking back with nostalgia?
Takes me back to my childhood, like a time machine, love it.

Loved this as a kid growing up, love it now as an adult. Beautifully sung and awesome lyrics.
She actually sings the song live better then on the album. Very few singers can do that.
Fabulous song and great vocals. Very emotional :)))
“ Breathing out as he is breathing in” .....so beautiful

Absolutely beautiful, and not just the song.
I know, where have I been. I just heard this song, I think on Radio 2 as someone's playlist...
It is truly beautiful and is on my playlist for others to discover, to enjoy and to share, of course 💕
Radio 2 is good for playing old, great songs. On the day of my retirement Ken Bruce played Poco, Rose of Cimarron, another brilliant song.
Growing up I was in love with this girl.
Great voice.
Gorgeous.
Loved this
Kiki Dee. Similar to Carley Simon. Both always nice to liston to. Then and Now. Don 't you think
Or Carly. For goodness' sake.

Bradfords very own is Kiki. Wonderful song
Sure is! Aka Pauline Matthews..
Worked at Boots the chemist in Bradford...
A gorgeous song, I bought this when it came out and stands the test of time
Singing live here too as normally they mimed to a backing track on TOTP, and Kiki sounds absolutely superb
It's absolutely beautiful
she sings that song so precise. Nice one
She still as sexy now as she was then
Kiki Dee,.......what a performer. Solo stuff and with Elton John number one and her 80s comeback with Star.......brilliant.....
