Hasan is the perfect example of a rich man's perfect socialist. He demands nothing of the people he talks to. He gives them excuses for not trying to bring about change or even live the values they claim. Plus at this point he's so big his fans can't abandon him. Why give up the power of having a giant twitch stream give out your talking points even if he doesn't follow them.
Hasan doesn't just give excuses for not living his values. He gives excuses for everything. You're antisocial? Capitalism's fault. You spend all day online and can't get a job because you have no people skills? Capitalism's fault. Everything with these guys is reductive as fuck.
Regardless of their specific political alignment, I find online radicals like Hasan so annoying because, despite protesting how terrible the current system is, most of these "radicals" end up completely reinforcing the status quo because they refuse to take any action that is less extreme than some national or global revolution that will never come. If you hate (for example) capitalism so much that you would be willing to join a revolution to completely abolish it, you should also support the much easier and more realistic avenues of political change, even if they only get you marginally closer to what you want. If you complain about how both parties are basically the same because the left-wing party isn't radical enough so there's no point voting Democrat, you are just protecting the thing you claim to hate, and protecting it more than most centralists do: these people are so extreme in their political beliefs that they do less than people who barely have political convictions. The only explanations I can think of are hypocrisy, lying, naivety, profound laziness or just stupidity, and if you hold any of those traits it's probably for the best that you stop being a political commentator.

Socialists think "the market" is some supernatural enigma that can be controlled and manipulated. They're not smart enough to understand that the market is simply every person within a society, and what they buy and sell. And the "lack of power" thing is no excuse either, I've been influential in a small way, just talking to friends and family about my ideas about freedom and how people can live by their principles. Hassan could afford to take 2 months of subscriptions and donations and put it all into a canvassing fund. I say all of this as someone who did help turn a small local election. There was an underdog less-funded more progressive candidate running against a moderate Dem. I knocked doors, trained new canvassers, and worked with the team and she won against the polling prediction.
Always remember that Hasan is fully capable of coordinating political events on the regular without changing anything about his current lifestyle. He has the money to fund such events. He has the fame to talk to politicians. Him, Second Thought and Hakim have large enough audiences to make canvassing on a state level easy. He doesn’t have to change how he runs his businesses or stop buying expensive stuff on the regular. All he has to do is sacrifice streaming hours every so often. Him and the others have zero excuse to not do any meaningful political action.
Hakim is iraqi which would make coordinating canvasing across continents and oceans pretty tough. also, i'm pretty sure no one from the deprogram would support canvasing for the democrats or any party in the US

You could argue that simply by normalizing open and critical discussion of capitalism, he's creating a space for people to be critical--even if that leads them back to a more nuanced supportive position on capitalism. Hasan could use that opportunity to turn them to socialism, but I don't think Hasan knows enough to do that. He doesn't even know the basics about Marxism, as he's consistently wrong about even fundamental tenets of the theory. Pretty much he's just a proponent of historical materialism, which is useful for critiquing capitalism but isn't enough to substantiate an argument for socialism/communism, and I think most of his audience won't go any further than relatively conservative socdem positions--case in point, Ethan.

Listening to Destiny every day for a couple years has made me SO much better at arguing my conservative positions and understanding both sides of every argument so that I can ensure that all my positions are detailed and principled. I’ve always listened to more left wing personalities than right wing, so I always felt pretty understanding of the opposite view from mine. But Destiny has taken my arguments and understanding to another level. Highly recommend his content to people from every political sector.

But I think the most common thing that happens with me watching Destiny, is that I get a better understanding of something Biden does, or a liberal position on a certain issue. I’m very hardcore conservative on a few issues, fairly conservative on most issues but with an understanding of the liberal position, and then there’s a few issues where I lean more towards the liberal position. I’m not anti immigration at all, I’m not against social welfare programs at all. Totally fine with increasing social programs if we make cuts to wasteful spending in other areas. I’m “anti-woke” but really don’t care about the trans stuff at all. So tired of hearing about that. But I do understand both sides of the issue. I’m anti intervention while also understanding why we can’t really institute any type of foreign policy that I would support bc we’re already in the position we are in and we can’t really reverse it. Our economy and national security depends on keeping the foreign policy we already have. Which sucks but I understand. But I’m very right wing when it comes to gun rights, abortion, voter integrity, regulations on businesses , and some other things. I have a zero tolerance for gun rights. But the other positions I at least understand the opposite view. And a lot of my “understanding” of opposite views have came from listening to Destiny

They then allocate capital towards producing that product and supply it to market above cost price to make a profit. As someone who neither sits on the right nor the left, Destiny's community consists of the types of liberals that I respect. Comparing his and Hasan's community is like comparing ketchup to mustard. One would think that they would share similar ideologies and have some common ground. Destiny has always had that "stick to your guns" attitude and I find that admirable.

I recently discovered this podcast. Often time Hakim would give some wild misinformed take on capitalism and Second Thought would just say "Yea you're right" instead of correcting him.
The sad (and ironic) thing about that comic is that it was pointing out a real thing. People do use that reasoning to dismiss criticism. Like I’m not a communist, I think free markets are fine, but I’ve had people say nearly the exact same thing to me when I criticize some aspect of capitalism (and I don’t want to end capitalism by any means). Regardless of their specific political alignment, I find online radicals like Hasan so annoying because, despite protesting how terrible the current system is, most of these "radicals" end up completely reinforcing the status quo because they refuse to take any action that is less extreme than some national or global revolution that will never come. If you hate (for example) capitalism so much that you would be willing to join a revolution to completely abolish it, you should also support the much easier and more realistic avenues of political change, even if they only get you marginally closer to what you want. If you complain about how both parties are basically the same because the left-wing party isn't radical enough so there's no point voting Democrat, you are just protecting the thing you claim to hate, and protecting it more than most centralists do: these people are so extreme in their political beliefs that they do less than people who barely have political convictions. The only explanations I can think of are hypocrisy, lying, naivety, profound laziness or just stupidity, and if you hold any of those traits it's probably for the best that you stop being a political commentator.

You could argue that simply by normalizing open and critical discussion of capitalism, he's creating a space for people to be critical--even if that leads them back to a more nuanced supportive position on capitalism. Hasan could use that opportunity to turn them to socialism, but I don't think Hasan knows enough to do that. He doesn't even know the basics about Marxism, as he's consistently wrong about even fundamental tenets of the theory. Pretty much he's just a proponent of historical materialism, which is useful for critiquing capitalism but isn't enough to substantiate an argument for socialism/communism, and I think most of his audience won't go any further than relatively conservative socdem positions--case in point, Ethan.

Listening to Destiny every day for a couple years has made me SO much better at arguing my conservative positions and understanding both sides of every argument so that I can ensure that all my positions are detailed and principled. I’ve always listened to more left wing personalities than right wing, so I always felt pretty understanding of the opposite view from mine. But Destiny has taken my arguments and understanding to another level. Highly recommend his content to people from every political sector.

But I think the most common thing that happens with me watching Destiny, is that I get a better understanding of something Biden does, or a liberal position on a certain issue. I’m very hardcore conservative on a few issues, fairly conservative on most issues but with an understanding of the liberal position, and then there’s a few issues where I lean more towards the liberal position. I’m not anti immigration at all, I’m not against social welfare programs at all. Totally fine with increasing social programs if we make cuts to wasteful spending in other areas. I’m “anti-woke” but really don’t care about the trans stuff at all. So tired of hearing about that. But I do understand both sides of the issue. I’m anti intervention while also understanding why we can’t really institute any type of foreign policy that I would support bc we’re already in the position we are in and we can’t really reverse it. Our economy and national security depends on keeping the foreign policy we already have. Which sucks but I understand. But I’m very right wing when it comes to gun rights, abortion, voter integrity, regulations on businesses , and some other things. I have a zero tolerance for gun rights. As someone who neither sits on the right nor the left, Destiny's community consists of the types of liberals that I respect. Comparing his and Hasan's community is like comparing ketchup to mustard.
