I just found this guy, "Destiny," or "Stephen," as the one women who debated him kept calling him to annoy him...but goddamn is it nice to find a guy who just has common sense. I've thought I was progressive...until they lost their fucking minds. I guess I'm liberal, but I can see the flaws in their ideology. I don't get why we have to hate our own country or this self flagellation for decrying America and just handing the right the mantle of being "Patriots." As an American living in Taiwan, hearing Hasan say that Taiwan is currently “One Country, Two Systems” is absurd. This is wording that comes directly from the agreement between Hong Kong and China that went into effect in 1997. “One Country, Two Systems” is the exact thing that China is calling for, and Taiwanese people outright reject, as they have seen the length to which the CCP respects the whole “Two systems” part of that. Taiwan and China are not one country, and Ethan is exactly correct in almost all of this. Almost no one here wants anything to do with China. This place looks like, feels like, and *is* a different country in ways not dissimilar to the UK and America.

I think that's on purpose. A lot of Ethan's appeal comes from being an "everyman man" just like Joe Rogan. They aren't particularly smart and are generally uninformed, but they're inquisitive and open to new information. As a european (swedish), spending a lot of time listening to and reading about foreign policy and the current geopolitical europe, i feel like the sentiment is that we worry A LOT about the ukraine situation, and support the independence of ukraine, basically all over most of europe. This is wording that comes directly from the agreement between Hong Kong and China that went into effect in 1997.
“One Country, Two Systems” is the exact thing that China is calling for, and Taiwanese people outright reject, as they have seen the length to which the CCP respects the whole “Two systems” part of that.
Taiwan and China are not one country, and Ethan is exactly correct in almost all of this. Almost no one here wants anything to do with China. This place looks like, feels like, and *is* a different country in ways not dissimilar to the UK and America.

It amazes me how much socialists/tankies/communist sympathizers will resent it when conservatives accuse the Left of being the first step towards Communism, or they will resent it when conservatives accuse the Left of ultimately wanting an authoritarian state with mass censorship..... But then do everything possible to avoid criticizing China.
I am on the Left, but I recognize that any political ideology can be taken too far, and it drives me crazy when radical Leftists like Hasan give conservatives all the ammo they need to connect anything we do to trying to implement communism.
Hasan is such a great example of someone who engages in politics for his personal edification rather than an honest pursuit of truth.
I never thought Ethan was an idiot but I do know that most people think he doesn't think for himself. He's more authentic in that respect than Hasan is. Ethan has no sympathy for imperialism just because it has a fan club.
Yet he refuses to accept that Israel had a historical record of being there since 8k years.

Ireland won a war against Britain and declared independence, Taiwan on the other hand never had a war of independence, and never declared independence.
until now, Taiwan's official name is still "Republic of China", and their constitution says "our territory include both mainland China and Taiwan province".

This is my biggest problem with Ethan. He shows from time to time he could still earnestly engage and be intelligent. But then wont research or confirm facts on his main show and is lazy. Well, he does like 6 shows a week, and his focus is comedy. Thats why the whole Steven crowder stuff was funny, because Steven Crowder thinks he can just come in and dunk on someone, like he does on those highschool kids and then Ethan pulls out Sam Harris.
I think that's on purpose. A lot of Ethan's appeal comes from being an "everyman man" just like Joe Rogan. They aren't particularly smart and are generally uninformed, but they're inquisitive and open to new information.
They respond to information in a very basal manner and react the way normie dudes would at hearing the same info.
Ethan feels the way he does because he has experiences that Dan and Hasan can't relate to. He's gone from selling drugs to being a millionaire business owner in Hollywood and built literally 100% of it with his own hard work. No reacting to others content, no "exploitation" of leagues of corporate employees. Ethan did it all. That's why when he looks at the world through his own lens, he can't relate to some of this crazy shit Hasan and his fans believe. To the contrary, how many of Hasan's fans do you think have built their own businesses from having nothing or fought near-bankrupting court cases that were so important they became some of the first case law of their kind?
It's a huge shame that Ethan got into politics. Most people nowadays only remember the bald headed, dumbass sitting next to Trisha Paytas and not the Vape Naysh Ambassador himself

"Han" chinese unity is a myth too, theres a major cultural divide between mandarin and cantonese speakers (north/south), let alone within smaller splintering within these groups

The Ukraine invasion really exposed the cracks in Hasan's logic and reasoning for me personally. I have been increasingly unimpressed by his political takes since then. If he wants to continue to be taken seriously as non-robotic political commentator, he really needs to start deconstructing his views and start doing the work. Even though there's certainly some unnecessary vitriol from Destiny's side towards him, I totally agree with Destiny's point that Hasan is pretty much just a mouthpiece for modern American progressivism and he will do anything it takes to not alienate those people.

As a european (swedish), spending a lot of time listening to and reading about foreign policy and the current geopolitical europe, i feel like the sentiment is that we worry A LOT about the ukraine situation, and support the independence of ukraine, basically all over most of europe. It feels like mostly super conservative people in europe is against supporting ukraine.

Love how Hassan is completely ignorant about Taiwan and brings up the single similarity between Taiwan and China (their overlapping Han Chinese ethnicity) while ignoring the differences between their economies, militaries, cultures, languages (yes , Taiwan has their own language that every single person speaks aside from Mandarin, it's called Taiwanese), food, religions. And when Chinese people fly into Taiwan, guess which line they fall into: citizen or foreigner?
