      @RIP_ZYZZ1738 Рік тому +9

      It's a nice way of saying, "You're saying filler shit that will not change my mind".
      That being said, Ethan's argument is summed up to goal posting the argument until it becomes an argument about a content creator not having to reach out to tell you to do certain things. It went from "stealing content" to "you're gaining from someone else" (even if that person can benefit from your reaction).

    • @inplfw
      @inplfw Рік тому +9

      @@RIP_ZYZZ1738 nah it's a way of saying "Your weaselly little tangent isn't relevant to the issue we're discussing." Hasan had been trying to drag the conversation towards discussing the line between clearly okay and the gray-area. Ethan was shutting it down and bringing it back to what the zeitgeist is actually discussing.
      Ethan's consistent position through all of this is that the four pillars of fair use are probably a healthy and acceptable way to gauge the black and white and gray in-between when it comes to react content. He is staunchly opposed to those who exist in the black zone and thinks they should feel pressure to be better. That reactors who put forward no reasonable effort to transform the underlying content are committing theft and he uses xQc as his primary example.
      I don't think Ethan moved goal posts at all in this discussion. If Ethan argued against "gaining from someone else" I missed it (I just rewatched this vid sans the intro and rele bits to try and catch it). Hasan tried to bait him into the gains territory multiple times, though. Ethan specifically states he isn't trying to address live-streaming, where arguably the most gain is created by the practice of low-effort reacting. When Hasan asserts there isn't enough data to show the effects of uploading these reactions to youtube, Ethan responds with "It doesn't matter" shirking the notion that he cares who gains. When Hasan asserts the original creator can DMCA, Ethan responds with "It doesn't matter that they have remedies. It's not their responsibility to chase [xQc] down to f*ckin' remedy his theft." He continues to assert that xQc's position is indefensible in a way that is "Wrong, period, black, done." He keeps bringing it back to the spectrum of react content having that black zone that shouldn't be uploaded to youtube. Hasan was the one trying to pivot to monetization or gain. Ethan only shows concern about the theft, not the gain. He is someone who, in his own content, hopes to avoid the theft to create gain for himself off of other people's content, so why would he argue against the gain?
      Perhaps my bias made me not see what you might've seen, but I think he did an exceptional job of being consistent.

    • @RIP_ZYZZ1738
      @RIP_ZYZZ1738 Рік тому

      @@inplfw He is consistently shutting down the possibility that it's not theft even if there's no data to support that it's stealing from others. I see where you get the idea that he's "consistent" but he clearly regards XQC as a "thief" but then turns it into "creators shouldn't have to chase you" (notice how he used "chase" to make his point seem stronger"). The truth is that it's not difficult whatsoever to reach out to someone who reacted to your video and talk to them. And it makes it seem like Ethan doesn't like the idea of communication. This isn't even talking about the simple fix of DMCA'ing the streamer. This is talking about how a content creator can talk to a streamer about what they have a problem with and how to fix it (they won't have a problem with the reaction itself; that's a fabricated problem because ultimately it can only benefit the creator). For example, one could say, "Hey! I like that you react to my content but I don't like how you don't do x y and z". Why is this communication labeled as "chasing"? The only time this can become a problem is if this happens more than _once_ with the same content creator. Truth is, this doesn't happen after the first time. But I don't think it should be deplorable to have open communication about what they don't like with the reaction. The only other time it would be deemed "chasing" is if it somehow negatively affected their video and they have to go and tell the streamer. But as we know, this doesn't happen and it would be foolish to go after a streamer with no data (especially if there's data to back up the other side of the argument).
      I think he's "consistent" by the definition of the word but he "consistently" changes what he ags a problem with based on what solution/answer is given to him. It's not your biases only. It's hard to see this when someone is talking in real time. But if you saw DarkViperAU's tweets, he did the same thing as Ethan did.

    • @inplfw
      @inplfw Рік тому +4

      @@RIP_ZYZZ1738 When Ethan asserts that it is theft, he is not talking about audience capture, served impressions, monetization, unique identity in the algorithm. Ethan is talking exclusively about about theft of intellectual property. This type of theft does not hinge on any analysis of data. He shuts down Hasan arguing that it isn't theft in those other regards, not because he's unwilling to admit whether or not he believes it to be theft in those areas, but because "it doesn't matter" (notice how he used "it doesn't matter" because it didn't matter?). Whether xQc is acting improper in any other regard is not fundamental to Ethan's position at any point and bringing those aspects up only serve as Hasan trying to escape the conversation Ethan is trying to have. Hasan is intentionally muddying the water by capitalizing on the idea of theft is applicable to multiple different concepts adjacent to the larger conversation regarding react streamers.
      To rephrase, the aspects of theft that you and Hasan seem fixated on discussing have no bearing on whether or not it is theft of intellectual property. Ethan shuts down those lines of conversation because his focus is the theft of the intellectual property. As far as Ethan's position is concerned, those other aspects of the conversation only serve to obfuscate. Ethan is very clear he does not care to have Hasan's conversation. Hasan is spineless and vague when trying to avoid Ethan's conversation.
      When I say that Ethan is consistent, I mean that his stated value in this discussion is consistent. He never changes what he has a problem with. No matter how many times Hasan tries to run away, Ethan holds his feet to the fire by bringing the conversation back to his thesis. That being while the gray area may be forgivable as fair use, black is indefensible as intellectual property theft. Hasan isn't providing answers or solutions at any point, he's providing copouts. It's really easy to see this in a video because you can pause, rewind, check captions, and a multitude of other things to make sure nothing was missed. Ethan's goalpost started with IP theft is bad, ended with IP theft is bad, and was consistently IP theft is bad the entire discussion. When Ethan says "chase" he is being hyperbolic, but that's because he's juxtaposing Hasan's suggestion of "just dmca, bro" against the fact that Hasan is dancing around the underlying theft. The word chase isn't making any point by itself, it is only highlighting that Hasan won't engage with Ethan's complaint.
      The differences in our commentary on this conversation seem to hinge on one thing. My framing says that Ethan's position is central and that Hasan should be responding and your framing is the opposite; that Hasan's position is central and Ethan should be responding. I stand behind my framing for two reasons: not only did Ethan initiate the conversation but their outcome regarding Ethan's contention necessarily colors subsequent relevant conversations.
      To make a loose baseball analogy, you and Hasan are adamant that the runner touched all the bases, whereas Ethan is claiming a foul ball. It is if and only if the ump calls the ball fair that the runner touching the bases will matter.
      Sidenotes: if you think DarkViperAU and Ethan share the same position on this, you need to reevaluate how willing you are to try and understand the other side. Ethan is arguably closer on this to Felix than Matt. Though I will admit, I agree that Matt has been guilty of moving his stated goalposts regarding this topic since it reignited. Also, my bias is not that I agree with Ethan, because I don't -- I don't agree with either side in their conversation. The bias I hinted at is a hatred of Hasan.

His weight gain was due to his anti depression medication. This was a joke about "fat man bad".
      He didn't doxx anyone that was a fan who posted a link after the staff telling chat not to do it. Ethan apologized for the situation happening. But that apology was taken out of context to spread the lie that Ethan doxx someone.
      The fresh n Fot situation is also a lie. Ethan just reacted to the story told to him. That portion of the story did sound like sexual assult, Ethan was correct in questioning it. The woman said it wasn't and that wad it. What a lot of people are not aware Is that the segment is to have a fan call in and tell a story with Ethan having no knowledge of what will be said. Ethan is an anomaly to me. My early perception of him was good, although I can't exactly remember why. I think I mainly had watched some of his random skit videos here and there. Then he made a few based videos on keemstar and ricegum and other universally hated creators at the time. Then I distinctly remember a podcast of his where he talked about Micheal Jackson and was calling him a pedophile/groomer over information about him that had recently come out, which even though I'm not really much of a Micheal Jackson fan it didn't sit right with me. Then of course the much more somewhat recent debacle with Amouranth's husband and him doxxing the wrong guy or just attempting to dox people in general. Or him going after Fresh n Fit and bringing that girl on his podcast.
      I think his double edged sword is his confidence in his moral high ground. In areas where he is right, it exponentially helps him win good optics. But when he's especially wrong or goes about it the wrong way it ruins his credibility. And imo credibility is much more important than optics.

You even have devices like guitaramps that have a pre-amp section built in to boosts the raw input of a guitar before taking it trough either the physical or virtual effect chain built into the amp, then it has an amp section at the end of that chain that boosts the completed signal to be played trough the speakers connected to the amp. When destiny says at 19:24 “I don’t know if i believe that if those weren’t filled with react content that they would be filled with something different” confuses me because Destiny being a streamer and UA-camr should know how impression slots work. If a react video wasn’t served in that spot, something else would 100% be there. The real question is what would be there which is a fair question because it isn’t guaranteed that the original video would show in that spot, but a video would be there to replace the reaction video.
    Also when he says it’s not a compelling argument, I don’t understand that either. Another video WILL be there to fill that impression slot. Now you could argue that the algorithm wouldn’t fill the slot with something the user has a high chance to click on, but I think that falls flat on its face too. You’re basically arguing the UA-cam algorithm isn’t good enough when in reality it’s incredibly good and has a massive success rate at filling impressions with videos that users have a high rate of clicking.

    For August, something I have noticed recently is that when I listen to these videos in the background while playing games, the algorithm will play podcast type content afterwards. When I watch/skim through I get more "normal" recommended feed. They are definitely tracking if I am alt tabbed or have a video on mute.
    This is relevant because it explains Destiny's growth over the last year going on podcasts and debating podcasters. I am not alone in watching these alt tabbed. The algorithm is probably treating Destiny as a hub that connects very disconnected types of content that may not be obvious. It explains why random podcasters have been reaching out to Destiny for chats because they are getting here through recommendations.

    React content does not scale as a genre. By definition it’s a parasite that doesn’t exist without a host. If there was all other content available everything would be fine. If there was only react content, it would literally be a recursive loop of react content which people already meme about now. I like some react content because I enjoy the personality or the perspective of the reactor ei. Destiny or CodyKo. But the entitlement Hasan and others have is crazy. You are sitting there watching someone else’s video, you are making more money watching their video then they are making their own video. 13:22 Pre-amp vs Amp
    Pre-Amp - brings the signal to line level
    Amp - brings signal to usable level past line level
    Mics generally use pre-amps since analog to digital conversion is done at line level. An external preamp would be used for more power hungry mics that have trouble maintaining line level with an audio interface’s built in preamps.
    In the case of headphones or speakers, they have a wild range of power demands so a amp is used to bring the levels up what’s needed. Generally, a pre-amp stage still exists between digital to analog conversion stage and amp stage.

For instance a mic is below line level, so a preamp takes that mic signal up to line level hot enough to be recorded and broadcast. That line level is too weak for speakers, so an amplifier takes the line level signal and makes it hot enough to drive speakers or headphones. A cloud lifter goes before the preamp, using Phantom power to raise the signal of a quiet dynamic or ribbon mic so it is a healthier level for the preamp to work with.

The problem is the barely doing anything in the reaction video I don't mind if it's streaming but if the reaction on streams wasn't interesting enough you don't cut and post on UA-cam that won't be your content that you're posting. exactly. Imagine watching the same exact video again. VERY few people would watch the original content if the react vid wasnt transformative. Saying that theyre technically "not taking anything from the creator monetarily so its not bad cause youre not harming the creator" is bs. The creator put in the time and effort and said "yeah you can watch it for free here cause this platform pays me". Thats what the creator is fine with. Even if it didnt take away views from the original vid, youre stealing time,effort and creativity. The reason you cant make any compelling content is cause you cant put in the same amount of time effort and creativity as that other person. We can actually quantify how much the creator is losing , because imagine if you paid someone to produce and come up with a concept for a vid for your channel. That would probably be the minimum amount loss on the creators side.
