Hard to believe that after nearly 20 years I still get value out of the orange box. Half-Life 2 in VR is really something else, everyone should give it a go.
I had never played any RE except 8, I decided to experience RE7 in VR for the first time playing it.. MAN what an amazing game in VR! I beat the entire game in my headset. Running I7-13700k, RTX 4080, Valve Index
Absolutely a fantastic episode this video. I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks for all your effort to put this list together! I love open world games and currently am still playing Skyrim VR (now 138 hours - each day about one to two hours) and still like to do more Quests I haven't done before... The last thing I complain about is that there are not enough games in VR! I just don't have enough time to play... and I'm retired!!! I loved the half life series in VR.
Outer wilds Half-Life 2 Enderal: Forgotten Stories (Skyrim conversion mod) Experienced all of these games for the first time in VR, and im happy i did it that way. Absolutely breathtaking and incredible to play.
Thank you so much for defining the teirs this way. It's really informative as I tend to only look for games with full motion controls. This is a great and well informed list.
I would have to say that my absolute favorite. DOOM. No, DOOM doesn't support VR. However, when the source code went open source, source port mods began to come out. One popular one was zdoom. When 3d hardware became the focus for features, gzdoom was it. And later came what literally made me cry when I tried it: gzdoomvr (yes, after 30 years, the DOOM community is still very active and alive). For the first time in my life, I wasn't playing doom, but was IN doom. DOOM is my favorite game ever, and essentially defined my childhood. When I personally found myself standing in E1M1 Hangar, looking around at my environment, I broke down. I have been amazed by many vr mods, but none of them literally had me unable to play because I was too emotional. After I got over that bit of shock, I proceeded to enjoy some serious ulraviolence. The Aliens TC was an amazing experience too. There's one more favorite. This one will also make me emotional, but of a different kind. Fear, dread, horror, anxiety, and terror. Unfortunately, this mod doesn't exist yet, but even as an atheist I pray that one day (hopefully soon), it will: DEAD SPACE REMAKE 2023. Someone, anyone, PLEASE make this possible and do it right, with proper 1st person support. My norepinephrine, GABA, and cortisol will thank you.
One I'd like to mention is Elite Dangerous VR. It's kind of a grey area, because while it does natively support VR, it's implementation is little more than just head tracking, but with the Elite VR Cockpit mod, it adds in virtual flightstick/throttle controls along with a multitude of virtual buttons you can place all around your ships interior, making flying in VR a completely immersive experience. It can be a bit janky at times, but it's definitely worth a try if you were disappointed with the basic VR experience in Elite Dangerous.
My top picks: MSFS2020, Half Life 2 series, Skyrim, Subnautica, American Truck Simulator, Doom 3, Fallout 4, Bulletstorm VR (its fixed now), and now i'm really enjoying Subnautica Below Zero in VR, and will try The Outer Wilds next.
Thanks !! You mentioned several I did not know about :) You did miss quite a few others such as Stray, Dark Souls Remastered, high on life, tormented souls, Crysis etc ... Next year will be a LONG video if you mention all the games that work via the praydog mod !!!!!!!!! I just stared playing Cyberpunk 2077 on the 4090 with the "general optimisation mod". It is insane how good the graphics look at 3000x3000 resolution. Plays perfectly smooth. I cannot wait for something like a 5090 to play it again with full pathtracing and even higher resolutions.
I got almost 200 hours on the risk of rain 2 mod. The metal hellsinger mod is also really fun if you have a good computer, best the entire thing on hardest difficulty, in vr
Are you using a quest headset? I was hoping to play it over airlink or a 3rd party streaming app if possible. I can't stomach vr movement unless I am physically moving
@@matthewfuller9760 i have a valve index. I got sick at first. took me entire half -life alyx campaign to get used to it, but after that did not affect me. main thing to make it easier is using combination of snap turn + real life turn, smooth turn is the worst.
It would have been so nice if once I got my VR system, I had gone to a list like this and tried that S-tier list out FIRST. The Serious Sam series was awesome, but otherwise, I've had failure after failure. Timidity about movement due to motion sickness, performance issues and controls. Risk of Rain 2 is freaking awesome. Black Mesa looks gorgeous but haven't gotten into it yet. I got the old school Doom games running but Index mapping was a nightmare. My use case is a bit different. I bought a VR setup & treadmill instead of a regular treadmill & stationary bike. If you want a workout, you NEED a movement focus.
Should also add the free VorpX VR mod for Cyberpunk and also Crysis. Also, HL2 VR mod is worth playing in the high res beta version if have good PC specs
awesome video man! im getting the quest 3 soon and these speedy quick description style videos that cover a large number of games is awesome. thanks a bunch!
With reshade + depth3d you can play doom 2016, doom eternal, titanfall 2, crysis 1, 2 and 3, world war z aftermath, borderlands 3, street fighter 4, grid autosport, Portal 2, Tomb rider, some call of duty games, Ori and the will of wisps, serious sam 3 and many others in 3d.
I really appreciate how you separate these into tiers. I lost interest in flat gaming (not by choice, just can't go back) once I got into VR gaming. So only S tier mods which elevate these games to a native-like VR experience are of interest to me at all.
-The Deep Rock Galactic mod is really cool however it can be really uncomfortable because the bugs get in your face and are biting you from all sides. I still think it's worth trying though. -Vivecraft is a classic you have to try and if you have a good pc you can even add some less demanding shaders. -I bought Half-life 2 specifically for the VR mod and this was my first time playing HL2. This mod is incredibly well made and is a must play. They took a lot of inspiration from HL:Alyx. This mod is also the easiest to install.
Great video. A good mod you missed is the submersedvr mod for Subnautica. Only just found it myself, but it makes Subnautica completely playable in VR and way more immersive than before 😁👍
Excellent compilation! We really have no excuse to be entertained as there are so many great games out there. Thank you for taking the time to put them all together. Your videos are always excellent.
just had this vid in my recommandation. and i wish i could follow through with all the games you mentioned. i even had a valve index and its working. but vr turned out differently then i imagined. my wife and i have always been gamers, in the last 2 years she played a lot less then before, then we had our first vr experience over at a friends house. to me, it was mind blowing, to her, it was cool. when she said we should get one to, i was hoping that vr would rekindle her passion for gaming because it looked like that would happend. at first, she only played beatsaber after we got our setup, then she tried alyx. the thing is: my wife nowadays is very easiely scared and fast to startle. she wasnt like this, when she was 18 and when i met her, but vr pushed that to 10, so to speak. everything felt so real to her, that she handled everything like she would in real life. even playing alyx first 2 chapters made her so tense, because she was expeting to be scared and startled any second, that went so far, that after her first contact with a headcrap, she stopped playing because she was afraid her heart might stop from shock.. she liked vr, but it was clear to her, that she isnt capeable of playing anything else then beatsaber or games of that sort. our dog picked up her stress and is now connection the headset with it. even when i pick it up, the dog goes haywire, whining, barking, panic scratching. my wife has stopped playing vr for good and wants me to stop too for the well beeing of the dog, since its now stress for her beloved animal. iam now stuck in limbo for months
thank you for taking the time to do this video im pretty new into vr and not many content creators out there still doing vr videos, special the stand alone ones for quest 2
Love your vids. One suggestion . When you say that people need really food specs for certain mods , it would helpful to have a ballpark idea of what you mean by very good mods .
I found this video very misleading. Even in S tier you showed trailers for flat versions(ultrakill) and footage of work in progress(far cry). I understand that you couldn't have tried all mods, but a little transparency would be nice. Some viewers might waste their time on a disappointing project.
My fav flat to VR mod is Half Life 2 VR. This is also the only mod of this kind that I played but it was spot on, I felt like I should have paid for this level of quality.
@@libertarianterminator you will love it, I don't usually play that kind of games, but damn, I had some of my best gaming moments with firewatch, I normally pref games like Half Life with action, firewatch is a walking simulator but I don't know, it had something magical on it, and playing It in vr was really cool
@@AbideinChristFully I've seen some people say this too. Weird. I had no problems with the airboat even in VR with the quest 2s low FoV. Only when I was already sick did I feel like the game was giving me a headache.
Dolphinvr emulator is pretty sick. I recommend metroid prime and mario kart wiiu especially if you got steering wheel and peddles. Crysis vr , bendy vr and dying light are great aswell. I was a little put off at 1st with Luke ross mods being controller based but now it's kinda refreshing to sit back in my recliner chair with a buttkicker and 4 dayton tactile transducers mounted underneath to take immersion to the next level.
Ghostwire: Tokyo really deserves to be on this list. it actually makes the game way better than the flatscreen version. while technically not a mod. amid evil is basically a mod done by the developers. it is an amazing game and well worth a mention. and as you have mentioned, the half-life 2 mod is some of the best you will see. can't wait to see what more is coming our way. btw if anyone is looking at this and wanting to mod a game. could someone please make a VR mod for Lichdom Battle Mage. It is an a really amazing game that i think would work great in VR. as a side note, this is why PCVR is the way to go and will always be king.
Lichdom Battle Mage would be awesome. I never played it but it would give me a reason to install the game. Amid Evil is amazing. I was worried playing it would make me not want to play Hexen and Heretic VR mod lol.
love the Vivecraft, its so great that you can combine Resourcepack with shaders and also mod MC with like 150 mods and it works on VR perferctly, the only down is that its pretty hard to control/play
i remember playing saints row 4 in VR on my oculus devkit 1 and being blown away by how fun it was, in that saints row you have super powers, can throw cars with your mind and leap over buildings :)
I’m a PC gamer and I think the best games right now are 2D games that have been modded to play in VR. My favorites include Alien Isolation, Crysis and Half Life 2 VR.
Love your vids - but i think, by chosing the criteria you did, you prevented a tier list, that does justice to the fun, you actually have in vr. Only two examples: I have recommended mother vr to a lot of friends. And strangely - without having motion controlls - nearly everybody i know has the impression, that this is one of the best vr experiences, you can have right now. Second one: I love fholgers (cabalistic's) work, but do you think Farcry (great mod btw) is on the same level as the half live 2 mods, he helped creating too?
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 ok, what about the farcry/hl2 question? Sorry, but i would really like to challenge you concerning the question, if your criteria are well chosen :-) Ah, and an excellent mod you left out, is raicuparta's neon white mod.
You forgot tormented souls. Another S tier. Depending on your headset..you mught have to bind controls but i got it working pretty good on index. Have footage. Also been on far cry mod. Pretty fun.
Vivecraft is significantly better than a few years ago now. You have Fabric support (so you can run Sodium + Iris + other optimisation mods). You can finally get good performance with some heavier shaders, or run Distant Horizons to get insane view distance. You can easily switch between flat and VR mode without quitting or running separate instances now. Flying through some of the mega builds on planetminecraft in VR is absolutely insane.
Awesome list, thanks! Personally for now I am actually overwhelmed with what to play in VR. I have very limited time and I recently bought both saints and sinners, vertigo remastered, Fallout 4 ( never played it), Skyrim ( also never played it). That HL2 is really tempting... Alyx was awesome and I am mid way though Hubris but... I think it might be a waste of time and money 🙂
I already mentioned it, but I'm playing Skyrim VR for over 138 hours now. I modded the game (applied about 50 mods) all gathered from recommendations of UA-camrs and also searched for them... it is a try and error and it took a while to make everything work, but it is worth it.
I honestly think you should include the contractors mods. Its behind buying the game itself, but they allow the public to make mod kits like halo, starwars, and cod zombies and put them fully functional into the game and it feels completely like a different game inside of another vr game. And there are so many more mods than what i mentioned. I think its worth looking at.
9:14 - Sony paid for the development of the VR versions and in turn got a timed exclusive. It's Capcom that then decided to not release it for PC. If Sony hadn't paid for it, it wouldn't exist at all.
You forgot Bendy and the Ink machine , The Stanley parable mods. Both are excellent. One other thing is I would love to get Luke Rosses mods but do not want to get locked into a Patrion. If only we could just out and out buy the mods that would be much better
Great video dude! I just got a quest 3 after a 3 year hiatus from VR stemming from being utterly disappointed with the Reverb G2 thanks to buggy software and awful motion controls. Noticed that very few new VR native titles have been released the past 3 years, but on the flip side PC VR mods have really taken a turn for the best! Between the RE mods and Half life series, plus many of the other S tier ones you showcased, I think I’ll be quite busy for a while. Keep up the great content, you def got a subscribe from me!
Great list. Thank you. I have a question that I'm aware is very subjective, but I'd like to know from your experienced opinion (and other viewers too). Which of those games do you still prefer to play sitting even in VR? I say it because Hellblade was not only a surprising immersive experience in VR, even though it was 3rd person, but also because after trying it standing up, I found it unnecessary and finished it sitting down all the time (with a gamer chair, of course).
Thanks for the awesome List! I wanna add two Games to this Penumbra Overture VR Mod and the Yooka Laylee VR mod. They should be easy to find on UA-cam/Google Links.
The Half-Life 2 VR mods were so well done that they feel like Valve could’ve made them. I’d like to try Black Mesa in VR but I guess you have to play it with HL2 weapons which kinda sucks. I just finished playing the Portal 2 VR mod which was pretty great. A little janky at times but definitely worth a play through
this is my list.. omg.. now i definitely cant wait to get a headset.. half life left 4 dead deep rock galactic? "rock and stone!! to the bone!" I NEED THIS... im reinstalling half life as we speak... i must locate the mod..as soon as the headset arrives its the first thing imma play.
In a way, but it's a full-conversion, separate game that has nothing to do with Elder Scrolls other than sharing assets. I personally feel it's a much better story with better characters. 50-100 hours. @@Gamingwithmatteo311

Subnautica has motion controls tho, it just takes 1 more mod and it plays amazing!!! TRY IT
Great video. Very inclusive!
This is a very well made video!
I had most fun and spent most time with the VR mods for RDR2 and GTAV
Doom, Heretic, Wolfenstien 3d, Return to Castle Wolfenstien, No Man Sky, Quake 1
Great video!.. now i need to replay some titles in vr :)
Most common comment was, it's not a real mod without motion controls so I made it this way
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 ok, what about the farcry/hl2 question? Sorry, but i would really like to challenge you concerning the question, if your criteria are well chosen :-) Ah, and an excellent mod you left out, is raicuparta's neon white mod.
You forgot tormented souls. Another S tier. Depending on your headset..you mught have to bind controls but i got it working pretty good on index. Have footage. Also been on far cry mod. Pretty fun.
LOVE the name. I used to use Epyx911 when I was doing VR. Thanks for the great video!
I actually remember you dude. Didn't you start by sipping a bear? You inspired the channel
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 haha great memory...yep that is me :) Running a History Channel now but slowly getting back into using vr (not channel)
Really Enjoyed this Mod list. It helped break down the mods in a informative way. Thanks Matteo!
Thank you for updating this list. I love these mods. Just wish some of them were easier to install.
Thanks for the video mannnnnn
List is huge, i dont have vr set yet, coming back 4 years later when i tried cheap crap I guess its amazing now. But no time to even play one title 😂
i was playing morrowind on my xbox while watching this and i was like oh my gosh no way!!
Great Idea for a Video Matteo!
You gotta check out the Cruelty Squad VR mod, that game is already so trippy and amazing flat, but in VR it is absolutely incredible
full motion controls too
Vivecraft is significantly better than a few years ago now.
You definitely have plenty right now
I already mentioned it, but I'm playing Skyrim VR for over 138 hours now. I modded the game (applied about 50 mods) all gathered from recommendations of UA-camrs and also searched for them... it is a try and error and it took a while to make everything work, but it is worth it.
Highly recommend Vertigo 2. You gotta play the first one which is also great, but Vertigo 2 is absolutely fantastic.
@@SjaakSchulteis there are 2 wabbajack mod packs you could look into. I don’t care for gore but recently considered checking out just because.
The new Far Cry mod is pretty damn good.
They are great but not flat to vr mods
@Gamingwithmatteo311 fair. Somewhat close but yeah i get what you mean.
9:14 - Sony paid for the development of the VR versions and in turn got a timed exclusive. It's Capcom that then decided to not release it for PC. If Sony hadn't paid for it, it wouldn't exist at all.
Looks like a perfect time to play morrowind for the first time but in VR.
You forgot Bendy and the Ink machine , The Stanley parable mods. Both are excellent. One other thing is I would love to get Luke Rosses mods but do not want to get locked into a Patrion. If only we could just out and out buy the mods that would be much better
Bendy is on the list
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 oppsy My bad, I need to take the wax out of my ears.
@@paulbellino5330 I might have missed Stanley's parable though
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 highly recommend if you never played it. It's a hoot.
ROCK & STONE!
Good vid gabagool
Lol
Great list.
The majority are actually quite playable Seated as they weren't designed for vr.
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 Sometimes I prefer seated VR games as I walk 10+ miles for work and lift a lot of weight.
Hellblade in VR is an unforgettable experience
Thanks for the awesome List! I wanna add two Games to this Penumbra Overture VR Mod and the Yooka Laylee VR mod. They should be easy to find on UA-cam/Google Links.
Fun Fact UEVR allows you to play any game built-in unreal engine to run in VR nativity
Yeah it wasn't around back when this video was made
The Half-Life 2 VR mods were so well done that they feel like Valve could’ve made them. I’d like to try Black Mesa in VR but I guess you have to play it with HL2 weapons which kinda sucks. I just finished playing the Portal 2 VR mod which was pretty great. A little janky at times but definitely worth a play through
If we could get the DRBeef treatment to No One Lives Forever 1 or 2, I would be a very happy camper.
this is my list.. omg..
now i definitely cant wait to get a headset..
half life
left 4 dead
deep rock galactic? "rock and stone!! to the bone!"
I NEED THIS...
im reinstalling half life as we speak... i must locate the mod..as soon as the headset arrives its the first thing imma play.
Dr Beef is king!
Is there a modded version of the golf club vr available?
Was disappointed not to see Enderal (Skyrim total conversion) on here. Amazing in VR! Definitely A tier for me.
I would consider that more of a skyrim mod
In a way, but it's a full-conversion, separate game that has nothing to do with Elder Scrolls other than sharing assets. I personally feel it's a much better story with better characters. 50-100 hours. @@Gamingwithmatteo311
whats that programs name that can turn almost any game vr?? like the gunfire reborn one
gunfire reborn was a mod, the app you are thinking of is most likely vorpx buts its just ok
Totally forgot to mention emulated games. There's a modded version of dolphin to play Metroid prime. Totally worth checking out.
I feel like these deserve a separate video
What is the VR mod that is being used here? Cuz that is never mentioned in the vid, only games that work well are mentioned.
Every game has their own mod
@@Gamingwithmatteo311 Oh I see
Can you play the Minecraft VR with an existing bedrock server?
Jedi VR mods are also Quest & PCVR
What is the Mod called or best one to use? I have a quest 2
They are all separate mods per game
where do u find the mods? for example the half life one?
i mean its says quest.. where do u get half life on quest?
The mods are from random places. Google is your friend here, so is the flat2vr mod discord
Today I played crysis v1.3 and it was great same as native VR games . The only problem was motion control was not that good .
If Final Fantasy Games 7 and up get in I would buy a quest in a second
My favorites were the GTA V and RDR2 mods. Just one more thing to add to the list of reasons why I no longer like R*.
they are working again on VORPX. I wonder if things changed for modders.
The far cry mod is amazing. It has motion controls! Scopes aren't working yet. EDIT: Oops I was wrong. The scopes do work, but they are really glitchy
Where do you get mods? How do you get mods?
unfortunately there is no central place and you get them from a lot of different locations. Check the discord I linked in the description
I love Valheim VR and Portal 2 VR mod
Great video Matteo! I have mass respect for these modders! If it weren’t for them, we would never be able to play these flat games. I prefer games with motion controls so I tend not to subscribe to Luke Ross.
How do I get half-life on quest? Or any quest mods, for that matter
its different for each game. google is your friend. I have a video on installing half life
Hi there , in your video it states that return to castle wolfenstein is available for quest and pcvr but i can only find it for quest, is it possible to get a link to pcvr mod please ?
Error on my part. The original wolfenstein is playable on pc
Nws thanks for quick reply and awesome video btw keep up the good work @@Gamingwithmatteo311 👍
What headset do you have , if it’s quest 2 , you need rookie loader , it’s on there
Playing remote play from ps5 pretty good
Far Cry 5 and 6 were missing, the mods were very good.
