Based on the movie "Johnny get your Gun". A novel made into a movie & Metallica bought the movie rights to make the video for this song. The movie is available on UA-cam for free.
1972myc the movie and book Johnny Got His Gun, were both written by Dalton Trumbo who also directed the film

Maybe fiction, but it was powerful enough for the US government to ban its publication during Vietnam as so many younger folks didn't want to enlist in the forces after reading it
According to Lars, the song wasn't based on the movie, they just used clips of it because it fit the song's theme so well. Then they bought the movie rights outright to avoid royalties.

Trumbo only disavowed Hitler later when Germany invaded his beloved Russia.

You know...I hate to be a naysayer on such a momentous occasion, but I can't help myself here. I've been slow to realize that Vin is like that guy who is the last person on earth you want leading you into new experiences. I get that the song "rocks", but dear god...Here is this absolutely gut-wrenching, devastating song to hear for the first time. Sori is there just trying to soak it all in, and here is this guy sitting beside her that is so caught up in his own experience (of a song I'm sure he's heard thousands of times), that he can't even understand that his air-guitar wailing, back-and-forth thrashing, and general physical obnoxiousness could possibly be taking away from her own experience (which, again, is HER FIRST experience of this song in its entirety).
I mean, don't get me wrong, the musical composition here is incredible. It kicks ass. And if you've heard the song a thousand times, I don't think you have to sit there like a stone, ponderously, every time you hear it again. But where is the consideration for bringing someone into a new experience - especially your partner? Imagine watching a movie for the first time with someone and they keep talking to you or flashing a light in your eyes over all the important dialogue. That experience seems about as fun as this one.
Look, I really enjoy this channel. I started following when it was just in its infancy. I still intend to watch and support it as long as I can. But it shocks me.....shocks me.....how someone who is so intelligent and so adept can also have such an incredible lack of personal perception. It's just baffling.
And then His statement about this very thing in which Sori immediately commented on was “I don’t care.”
Well not to mention the song didn't play out to the very end. That's kind of important

@@nedrini1387 I think it's just the right amount of constructive criticism, actually. If it was the first time (or the fifth, or tenth...) I wouldn't have even said anything. I want their channel to grow and for them to have success. No one benefits from everyone just keeping quiet about the problems.
And, for what it's worth, I don't know how you could honestly watch that and not see it take away from her experience. And I mean, literally, see. You could objectively SEE him move her focus away from the song at points (like during the "landmine" refrain, or when he blasts the volume up at one point). All the people making comments about his behavior isn't just some miraculous coincidence. It's very obvious.
Glad to know you are on the low end of the maturity scale, but then again it is UA-cam. Most people with any sense of decency wouldn’t go up to someone and point out their flaws in a three paragraph essay. Why do it on UA-cam, but then claim that somehow “it’s meant to help them”? Seems to me that maybe you, since it hurt you so badly, need to be the one to get their priorities in check. @Tony Glock Lars has said in an interview he doesn't like practicing by himself. Probably the only time he touches the instrument these days is on tour or in studio. The degeneration is real.

Cradle of Filth, Megadeth, Ronnie James Dio, Slayer, Gwar (they are a genre all of their own!), Metallica (old Metallica, BEFORE the Black Album), and she is now 5 years old, and she has been listening to and LOVING metal ever since was born! She LOVES Megadeth, and Ronnie James Dio! Parenting WIN!!

This is on my favorite all time Metallica songs and was one of the first ones I ever heard. I asked my son when he was in high school to learn to play the lead guitar line for this song for my birthday present . It was so great to hear it that way.

Congratulations on 100K! You guys absolutely deserve it. I've been sub'd since about 3K (in your first couple months I guess), and I just want you guys to know how much you mean to me.
At first it was just cool to hear such in-depth analyses of religion and philosophy in music. I love the long discussions the songs inspire, and all the knowledge I've gained from them. But I've gotten so much more than that over the past nearly a year. Because of this channel I've grown as a Christian, as a young man, and as possibly a future husband/father.
While I certainly don't agree with you on all issues of theology and politics, I agree with a lot; and with what we don't agree on, you give me reason to think deeper about, and re-evaluate, what I believe. If you don't change my mind, you do make my own beliefs more deeply thought out and more well-rounded.
