When I purchased my 06 CS 987.1 it was an agreement with my wife I did most of the maintenance. Oil changes are easy...1 screw. My daughters VW Jetta has 14 or more screws. Breaks are easy. Just a couple of random things like a solenoid issue that caused a high pitched whining noise emanating through the side vents. Other than that, I've stuck with the prescribed service intervals/standard upkeep like oil, brakes etc. and have had minimal problems. By far the best and most reliable car I've ever owned. I’ve owned a 2010 Cayman 987.2 for six years and apart from regular oil changes have only had a pdk service and new rotors all round. I have had apple car play installed and front and rear cameras, like you I love the car. I love the colour of the wrap and the slightly lowered suspension. Just out of interest the local Porsche dealer here in south east Queensland ( Australia) told me that due to massive production cut backs in 2009 due to the GFC the 987.2 Cayman is in short supply and accordingly is a good “keeper”.
I have a 2012 base Cayman, coming up to 2 years ownership in October, and I feel for the price you had to pay for maintenance and cosmetics. I have been considering selling my 2008 AP2 S2000 for a while in order to try and get into a 987.2 Boxster/Cayman S... I think you've convinced me to keep my S2000 lol. I've owned it for the past 5 years, which, admittedly, I only drive it about ~2000 miles a year (it's currently at 65k miles), but even with a full season of SCCA autocross, the comparison in maintenance costs (especially when reading through the comments) is staggering. In 5 years with my AP2 S2000, including a full season of SCCA C-Street (where I trophied for the season- translation: the car wasn't exactly babied), the only "failure" I've experienced is a sticky clutch about ~4 years ago. I spent about ~$20 on fluid, bled the clutch (only takes a few minutes), and viola, it never stuck again. I also had a bad gas cap 2-3 years ago that cost me $30. Essentially, in 5 years of ownership, driving the car hard (sometimes in competition), it's literally only cost me $50 in repairs. To be clear, I've spent a lot more than that on preventative maintenance- oil changes (changed annually), transmission fluid, diff fluid, filters, spark plugs (they weren't really needed, but I'm pretty OCD about "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of the cure"), flushed the coolant (again, not needed, but cheap and easy), brake fluid, etc. I even did a preventative maintenance valve adjustment (only recommended once every ~100k miles or so- but only takes a couple of hours with some feeler gauges), so I had to buy a new valve cover gasket (still relatively cheap). I used only OEM Honda or high quality fluids/parts and I did all the work myself (these cars are stupid easy to work on/service). Last I checked, I've spent a total of $494 in maintenance and repairs in the past 5 years, so roughly ~$100/year.. I also spent an additional $75 in Dr ColorChip touch-up paint (damn rock chips!), so I supposed that could be added to the cost of repairs. To be fair, I'm not counting the cost of modifications (there aren't many) or track/competition related wheels/tires. What I've learned about myself after watching this video is: I think I might be too much of a cheap bastard to own a Porsche.
It happens with it getting away from you. I bought a nice one owner 986.2 S for 17k last year. I put about $6000 in it so far and will be having a shop bill today for almost $2000. I don't get the people who buy cars and first expense is wrapping it :) So the unwritten rule with used cars, when buying them, first do the big maintainance, it's a must it's not the yearly maintainance cost(brakes, filters, oil, belts,AC, etc.) and then run the car for half to an year and fix all the other mechanical issues on the go and then you probably have your peace of mind for next few years :)

What model Porsche could you have bought though with the purchase price and cost of ownership in one year? I suspect buying an old one is a false economy
Make up your mind. You spent too much or you didn’t spend too much. Consider editing video I don’t find the sport mode to make that much ch difference in mine. It keeps the rpm’s higher in automatic and that’s about it. Glad you like your cayman. Most owners do.
Nice car! Love the color wrap. Can you tell me the exact shade of orange and how much? Also, the oil change seemed very expensive. Is it common to spend $400+ each time for an oil change?? Tks so,much!
@themiddlelane, hey. Is it worth it to buy specifically this car for like 30 grands? Counting all could happen problems which some could be really expensive
For a 14-year old car and out of warranty, I see no reason to give a Porsche to an official Porsche-Dealer to fix or maintenance the car. Those crazy Porsche-Taxes are just insane for doing a poor job on the car as any suspect backstreet garage can do as well but for the half the price. Or when you have some mechanic skill, do it youself and save the money! I agree, the parts are still expensive, but don't have pay the overpriced mechanic, which taxes you for 10 minutes of work about 150 bucks is just satifiying me. The one and only reason a Porsche goes to official garage is because warranty and free service.
But... maintenance was deferred before you purchased the car, leaking washer reservoir as proof. These parts that were replaced were at or near end of life and this is normal and not something that is done more than once.
Are all your coolant lines original? Did you have them checked. This is the one thing holding me back. They expect yo to spend $30k and you can't see the engine or undercarriage without a lift.
Looks like the PCCM+. It's an original Porsche part and plug and play. They make them for all "older" Porsche's. Really cool systems, expensive, but really upgrades/modernizes the car
5:20 ugh I the reason why I distrust most mechanics from dealers, they'll do anything to make an extra buck, usually from lots of pressure from higher ups. If they replaced it to save you money, they would of lost money, from in their eyes, a wealthy Porche Owner.
Question: how tall are you bcs i want to buy one but im really tall (2m/6.56feet) and cant really testdrive one. So how tall are you and are you comfortabel?
Ah that's not bad for an old car.....I spent more than that doing maintenance on my 2024 G87 M2....granted it's cause I spun out on day 3 of ownership and hopped the median and destroyed 2 wheels and bent a control arm :*( Edit: Oh yea and a wheel bearing.
didn't include the cost of the wrap... also... the lack of good auto mechanics really makes it a hassle to own an older car these days... you see a hydraulic fluid leak.. you pay 150 freakin' dollars to make sure it's not serious... ' it's water ' ...
You can do this by yourself. If you buy the oil and filter yourself you get it mich cheaper. In my opinion a Car that is older than 10 years i'm doing oil and filters myself. I own one and a oil change costs me about 150-200 dollars with oil and filters. Depends if you change the magnets to or not🤷♂️

Damn it has already been a year, time goes by so quick
I know!
it dont matter if you over spent as long as you are happy with the results. getting rid of those oversizrd ugly rims should be considered fixing an issue not cosmetic. it was equipped with wrong parts and not to sprc. im glad i found your video detailing some of the costs of maintenance. at over $400 for just an oil change, its way too much for me tp justify even if these are in my price range. back to looking for an atsv or ct6 something easier on the wallet for maintenance...
2006 987S Boxster autom., maintenance over the last 4.2 years ownership (own oil changes w. Mobile 1): US$2665/year. Speeding tickets: $1000+. Best buy ever.
In my opinion you did not spend too much to be happy! Furthermore, that car is beautiful.
I have to say that's a great colour , and it looks great with the turbo wheels
Hi, please make a video from the CarPlay Android upgrade. Installation, sound quality from music streaming app, costs, compatibility to Bose Sound Systeme ❤❤❤
You car looks awsome. What is the brand and the color code of this wrap?
Looks great but you’d better get a hagerty declared value policy on it now
What about insurance and license fees?
Seeing this restarts my 'replace the Miata' itch.
It's a beautiful vehicle. Hopefully, no more surprise repairs.
How do you do a whole video about cost to own and not include the mileage for the car?
What is the exact model of those wheels? They look great. And I must say that orange is truly amazing.
What model Porsche could you have bought though with the purchase price and cost of ownership in one year? I suspect buying an old one is a false economy
Make up your mind. You spent too much or you didn’t spend too much. Consider editing video
I don’t find the sport mode to make that much ch difference in mine. It keeps the rpm’s higher in automatic and that’s about it.
Glad you like your cayman. Most owners do.
Love your video! Can you please let me know where and what brand head unit for apple carplay? I want to get the exact one. Thanks
Button shift steering wheel is awful. The paddle shift upgrade is amazing.
What’s the colour of the wrap? It looks soo good!
Nice car! Love the color wrap. Can you tell me the exact shade of orange and how much? Also, the oil change seemed very expensive. Is it common to spend $400+ each time for an oil change?? Tks so,much!
You can get the oil change supplies from the OEM rather than direct from Porsche for about 1/4th the cost.
damn that wrap looks amazing, i thought it was a stock paint :o
People have asked me if it was paint before 😆 they did an amazing job
I'm not familiar with a car wrap, what is it?@@themiddlelanelm
Luke, it's a beautiful car. How much was the wrap?
@themiddlelane, hey. Is it worth it to buy specifically this car for like 30 grands? Counting all could happen problems which some could be really expensive
Hey man congrats on the beautiful car :) whats the exterior color called?
Can't find the video about CarPlay anymore, removed?
What is the car play unit? Is it something that would come in a Cayman?
Are all your coolant lines original? Did you have them checked. This is the one thing holding me back. They expect yo to spend $30k and you can't see the engine or undercarriage without a lift.
What is the CarPlay unit that you bought? Have you had any issues with it?
Looks like the PCCM+. It's an original Porsche part and plug and play. They make them for all "older" Porsche's. Really cool systems, expensive, but really upgrades/modernizes the car
This orange
color wrap is insane. Do you know the name or a code of this color?
Do you still plan to make these videos after your move? Or was that more of a DC thing that you won’t be able to do in LA?
How did it go from you doing a full service on the car for $1200 to this? The car parts are still the same price, did you go to a mechanic?
Still got those black wheels, And would you be interested in selling them
Which head unit did you get? Can you post the link?
It is a Porsche so will be fast and fun. They race and win. Good feeling I bet driving it!
Beautiful car, congratulations .
Mistakens power steering oil for water?! How?! Never ever go to that mechanic again.
5:20 ugh I the reason why I distrust most mechanics from dealers, they'll do anything to make an extra buck, usually from lots of pressure from higher ups. If they replaced it to save you money, they would of lost money, from in their eyes, a wealthy Porche Owner.
how much was the wrap and what size are the rims?
is that 3M Fiery Orange?
How much did it Cost to buy
Question: how tall are you bcs i want to buy one but im really tall (2m/6.56feet) and cant really testdrive one. So how tall are you and are you comfortabel?
I would’ve jb welded that reservoir, good saved $600
how much was the wrap?
$3800
If you had spent the $14K upfront would that have gotten you a better cayman?
My Subaru cost me $10,000 and it has a flat six engine and back seats 💺 but it looks good with the five spokes wheels 🛞 and car play I do t have
Ok?
Ah that's not bad for an old car.....I spent more than that doing maintenance on my 2024 G87 M2....granted it's cause I spun out on day 3 of ownership and hopped the median and destroyed 2 wheels and bent a control arm :*( Edit: Oh yea and a wheel bearing.
You should have gotten the manual.
Hope you change your oil more than once a year from now on
What wheels are those? Where did you get em?
Porsche Turbo II wheels, got em on eBay!
@@themiddlelanelm looks great, Luke!
I hope you got a new mechinic
Thank you.
didn't include the cost of the wrap... also... the lack of good auto mechanics really makes it a hassle to own an older car these days... you see a hydraulic fluid leak.. you pay 150 freakin' dollars to make sure it's not serious... ' it's water ' ...
I really wanted this car until you mentioned the $426 oil change. My heart just couldn't do that and would cry all the time. It'd ruin the car for me
You can do this by yourself. If you buy the oil and filter yourself you get it mich cheaper. In my opinion a Car that is older than 10 years i'm doing oil and filters myself. I own one and a oil change costs me about 150-200 dollars with oil and filters. Depends if you change the magnets to or not🤷♂️
Gone get that 911 turbo 😅😅
Good for you!
I'm dreaming of a 2006 Cayman S, so it fills me with joy seeing new videos and people enjoying the car!
“That was too much money” 🤣💀
In joy the car
It is a shame to drive car like this without manual. However, 10k for cosmetics, you could've got newer Cayman for that price.
Top car
And i’m dreaming of owning a morris minor or a car from the 20s of my likeing
Damn, I remember the disaster of the first one.
