I really appreciate this video. I was in the market for an old 914 and 928, but now I am in NO WAY buying one!
Those cars are more for people that REALLY love them and can work on them by themselves, if you have 0 mechanical knowlege and you're counting on a Mechanic to fix them for you, don't even consider it
A friend of mine has a 928, and from his experience with the car I definitely recommend not getting one.

For sure. I think this series is great if you come to it understanding that it's not really about what is and isn't a bad car (though it might seem that way sometimes) it's more about what's a good/bad car if you aren't going to get your hands dirty.

My dealership took a yellow Boxster in trade in 2004. The car was driven by a singer from Taiwan who was going back home. She left me a CD with the name Ruby on it; wonderful music. It had a medium red interior and was a blast to drive. I took my 85 year old father for a short drive and he loved it. He passed away two weeks later. I have always liked the Boxster the most because it stands out more and feels more luxurious.
This experience of stupendous driving is mostly because the boxster is like a metal canoe on good coil overs. What I mean is, the body is rigid only on the bottom to get tight, accurate steering and grip. To sacrifice cost, they take out most of the top support of the car. The interior is also another piece in which they dump $$$ in to give the illusion of luxury at a scarily low cost. As long as you are not in the market for rolling it over or driving for more than 50k miles they’re a great pick. Hence why they are disposable mobiles for billionaires and travelers alike.

@@AZEOforreal I’ve seen 986s & 987s with 100,000s of miles on them. So long as you look after them, replace the IMS and don’t buy a 3.4 they shouldn’t give you too many issues

@@jeroenorriens2590The engines are also pretty to look at and you can see the motor. As a kid I liked the rear seats a LOT. Great car for kids! Supple leather all around. Much better than 944 for a young kid.

I had a 2013 Panamera Turbo 970 that was fast and fun. Didn’t care for the hump so much so traded up to a 2018 Panamera Turbo 971 with 50 more horses. The technical amenities over my older one is phenomenal! Quieter, smoother, rear steering, night vision, the works….less sportyness because of its limousine feel! Also has sound proofing so I have to let the windows down to really hear the exhaust, even in sport plus mode!

It's known to be the best engineered Porsche of the 80s. Better handling and the turbo would kill any 911 in the track with just a ECU chip.

Can't 'get behind' a four door Porsche, immediately follows up with a recommendation for a four door Porsche...but very true, the Taycan is a great car. You are right.

Let's be honest Porsche would probably be out of business if they didn't make an SUV and a four-door. It's saved Porsche. But also degraded the Porsche name all in one shot.
The electric cars might bring them back to a better status.

Porsche has been saved so many times by the cars that Porsche purists look down upon. The 944, the Boxter etc etc. All this so they can keep making a car that makes absolutely no sense mechanically (don't get me wrong, I love the 911 but it's a car that wouldn't exist if it was designed today).

Well said. Car Wizard, and others, have many war stories about people reaching too far and getting something they can't (or won't) spend the money on.
Here's a better idea. Buy a service manual and tools. Professional mechanics already have plenty to do from people who won't soil their hands with doing their own mechanical work.

@@taunuslunatic404 I have one and it is. Most jobs are fairly easy and you really just need a basic wrench set and a torque wrench and you can do 90% of the work on it.
@@taunuslunatic404 Sort of. The major issue with all these cars is that while they are mechanically very simple to work on, you are still paying Porsche prices for parts. Even if you go aftermarket, some of the 944 platform parts are silly money (I'm very familiar, owning a 968). Not for the faint of heart.
I'm in the minority when I say the new-ish Panameras look amazing. They fixed the ass-end rounded/squat look. Unfortunately they're like 100k, which is approx. 80k out of my price range.
Agreed! That being said I’m a huge fan of wagons. I’m not a fan of the first gen Panamera though.
They are way less hideous now. To be fair, that was the only direction they could go...

As a former mechanic, whose last major work was replacing the head bolts and injector pump on my Eldo diesel, I really appreciate this channel!
I like the way you present these videos. Simple explanations and a touch of humour. I did have a Porsche 2.7 in the 70's, and yes it went like stink, but it was tail happy when braking hard into a corner. I had a few smelly moments when the tail started to wag.
I respect that you clearly state over and over again that this is your opinion based on your repair experience. Not much else you can do, but folks still come unglued. Be encouraged!
The 928 will always be my favorite Porsche design up until today..I fell in love with it as a kid ever since I saw the movies Weird Science, Scarface & Risky Business..

I bought a 2011 Panamera 4S in 2020 and it has been a blast. This car is incredible. The upkeep is not cheap but I don't care.
Talking about coolness points. I live in LA and the hottest girls have reacted very positively to it. A lot of people here think driving a 911 is trying to hard. But that may be specific LA. I personally love 911s. But you could be right about the V8. I'm approaching 90K miles and it has lost its smoothness. At 58K when I bought it, it ran super smooth. I switched motor mounts but there was only a minor difference.
Otherwise I'm addicted to my Panamera and I will get a newer model eventually.
I had a 2010 Panamera S with 190,000 miles and it was incredible! Fast and super comfortable at high speed. I bought a Cayenne S because I needed to tow but enjoy yours sir!
@@lifeatitsbest410how was maintenance on it? I found one for 15k, dealer maintained (2010 4S) with 115k miles on it. It’s in great shape and I prefer the older style as well.
@@emiliancailean4871 maintenance was no different than any of my other cars. Fairly cheap to run and not a lot to go wrong on a N/A car.
Always love to hear what u got to say , honest mechanic are something u don't see to much of , so ur opinion and knowledge in the automotive world is definitely appreciated , love the channel and all u and Ms wizard do for the viewers

Our Porsche Macan GTS has been nothing but reliable--and amazing to drive! Soooo fast. But yes, our next purchase is a Taycan 4S.

The Boxster S didn't come out until 2000. The 99 is still the sweet spot though, they're past the D-chunk cylinder liner issue but have the original two row IMS bearing that is much less likely to fail than the single row bearing from 2000-2004 and because they're 2.5l engines, people shy away from them because they're not as fast as the S that came out in 2000. I'm going to pick one up next year I think.

Torque tube bearing went bad on mine. One of the biggest headache I ever had.

I have had five Porsche V8. 1 Panamera and 4 Cayenne... All of them ran smooth only one of them had a cold-weather problem with the valves and started to blow smoke before I sold... The Porsche V-8's are the best value in my opinion for the experience
I had a 2000 986S and loved it, but sold it to a friend to get a 996 C4 Cab. I don't regret it at all. I did it to get the back seat enabling me to get my 2 year old son in the car. He LOVES it and always wants to take the Porsche. He will say Porsche whenever we go on the garage. I could not afford to get a comparable 997 or above, and definitely cannot afford an Air Cooled with prices on them now. I love my 996
I got my first Porsche last month to celebrate my 35th .. after driving all the mid 90's- early 00's .. I went with my driving gut and picked a Boxster S .. I tried doing donuts just like your buddy ( After I bought it of course ) I was amazed at how it handles,, It grips like crazzzyyy and the sound of a mid engine roaring inches away from my ears is better than most radio stations,,especially when its a Porsche engine.

I love shifting manual transmissions. It is the joy of driving. The last automatic I had was my mom's station wagon back in the early 1970s. I can't imagine buying a Porsche without a manual transmission.
There really is no comparison between a torque converter automatic transmission and a modern dual clutch transmission, which is really an electronically controlled "manual" transmission. The difference is between rowing a stick or flicking a paddle.
The PDK would change your mind.
I really wanted a manual when I was looking at 911 turbos. But I ended up finding a deal on one with an auto that I simply couldn't pass up. It was $20k less than any comparable manual I had found over the 6 months I was looking. I couldn't justify paying $20k+ more for a manual over an auto.
@@yorbalindason Wrong. I've driven multiple PDKs. None of them hold a candle to a real manual. And they never will.
@@yorbalindasonI completely agree! My 911 has a PDK, I'm so used to manual but the PDK completely changed my mind! What a transmission, it's just difficult to explain how it holds the gears, down shifts so incredibly, everything about the PDK transmission is just mind blowing to me!!! Until someone really drives it, it's not something that can be explained. They are so different and just so impressive!
He's talking about the 914-4. The 914-6 has six cylinder 110 HP and 0 - 60 mph in about 8 seconds which was respectable back then. But the car wasn't about speed. It was one of the first the mid-engine cars and handled better than almost anything on the road. It was the forbearer to the Porsche Boxster. If you find one in excellent condition today it will easily cost over $50k.

Yeah I test drove one and eventually ended up buying a 911 instead, but always sort of regretted. The 911 was fast but that 914 was a fun little go-kart! Now and for the past several decades they're all rusted out.
Bought my 1980 20 years ago with 38,000 miles. I don't drive it a whole lot because it's more of a collector car I treat gently, but the value has exploded and it's an amazing car that has not given me any issues.
The Macan Turbo with the 3.6 liter engine is a riot on twisty roads and a very comfortable car on long trips and costco runs. It has been very reliable and great in the snow.
I went on a road ride in my 18 GT3 with my buddy in his 17 Macan S. I was impressed with its speed and quickness. Really a car with 2 personalities
As a Macan owner (multiple Porsche as well), I looked at it more as a "lifted car" than an SUV. It slots in for those who kinda need a touch more space than the 2-doors but don't want a Cayenne. The Cayenne drove more like a muscle truck, than a car.
Just got a 2018 macan turbo I honestly don't think the interior is that bad I just feel like that put to much buttons in the middle console but so far it's been fun and havnt has any issues has bumper to bumper warranty so I ain't to worried about it either way
The typical Macan buyer could not get in and out of a Porsche sports car, sitting low and stretched out. Since they're on every street the whole image of a Porsche driver is now a grandma
That segment just showed a complete lack of understanding of the Macan line. The Turbo and perhaps the GTS is an entirely different animal and the 3.6 is one of the smoothest turbocharged engines they've produced. The air suspension is pretty special as well and the entire package would put a lot of sport sedans to shame.
The 928s might be a relatively slow mess of a car but that first gen design was SPECTACULAR!
Ya. I loved the modern design of the 928 & everybody said it wasn't great, although better than the 944 "poor man's Porsche". So, disappointing, but not really a gutpunch for me

I love my 944 so I have to pay respects to the 924 for making it possible but man I have a early 944 so same interior but a Porsche engine and man it's a blast with a good mpg
I had a 1990 C-4 for 11 years, and loved it. The full time 4wd is heavier than the 2wd version...but the traction you get with the c-4 is amazing. I never chirped a tire in that car. I'd try and just get sling-shotted. Great video. I'm sure this could easily have been an hour long.
Bought a 2017 Macan S new…..still have it. Absolute joy to drive.

Whenever you are able to make the next episode of this, I would love a "buy this, not that" for Subaru. Great vid as always.
The ones to not buy is any Subaru with a Boxer engine coz they have head gasket failure and the Continuous Variable Transmission made by JATCO. So basically avoid all Subarus unless you have an extended warranty otherwise be prepared to spend a few thousand dollars for an engine rebuild and/or a CVT rebuild

I had a 1987 manual Subaru DL that went 225,000 miles with nothing but regular maintenance. No problems and I sold it still running well.

930 was/still is the Porsche everyone wants whether they know it or not.
Be alert though: As much as I adore the 930, too, they are monsters! This is one of the very first - if not THE first turbo'ed production car (putting the limited run BMW 2002 turbo aside I think it is only challenged by the Saab 99 turbo). And boy, does it show: As the wizard said: These are blisteringly fast... yes... IF you know what you're doing, that is. There really isn't THAT much power going on at lower revs. OK, it's still 1970ies Porsche kinda quick but be prepared for when the turbocharger kicks in. And it does quite literally KICK in. It pretty much feels as if the car had been hit by a giant hammer from behind. And since it's still both RWD and rear engined of course, this one will not hesitate for the smallest fraction of time to hang its whale tail out, get you into spinning wildly and - pretty literally, too - take your head off. The car has tremendous grip but when that grip ends it does so in the blink of an eye. So make sure you have plenty of space around you as "Transition to oversteer" really isn't in this car's vocabulary. It honestly is one of the trickiest things to go fast in. Scaringly so. And it has my deepest respect whenever I get to drive one (which hardly ever happens these days as they have become obscenely expensive - at the time of writing). The best 0-62 time I ever came up with was something like 5.5, 5.6 seconds. Which - admittedly - is exactly what Porsche themselves quoted for the first series, 250hp 930 turbo. You may want to consider, though, that in ANY other Porsche I timed over the years (including non turbo 911s, late 4WD 911s, 924 and 944 - turbos and naturally aspirated) and 986 Boxster) I managed to undercut the factory quoted times by around 0.3 to 0.8 seconds. Not in this one, though. Not in a million years.
Of course you may say that other / earlier 911s are even more tail-happy and you are probably right (I have yet to drive a 1960s or early 70s 911 myself) BUT those were either MUCH less powerful or - if they at least get close to the 930s first series' 250 hp (like the holy grail of 911s, the Carrera RS) they had much narrower tyres and a much more linear supply of power. o if you are a haöf-decent experienced driver you will know where it starts to get a bit skittish. You will need a sensitive foot on the throttle, yes, definitely. But the Carrera RS won't asassinate you the way a recklessly driven 930 turbo will.
In short: If it's adrenalin you're after: Get a 930 today. If you want anything else to go along with that adrenalin, you may want to have a look around at other models. ;-)
Not really. Have had two and will not have another. My thought is always that people who say it's the Porsche to have, or the best 911 etc. are the people who have not lived with one.
I used to destroy 930 Turbos in a 1957 VW Oval window with a 2 liter and 48 IDA Webers. Stoplight to stoplight that is.😉
914: lots of fun to drive, worked on mine so repairs were cheap (vw engine), top comes off. Not for everybody for sure, but I really enjoyed that car.
The Panamera with V6 and AWS and WITHOUT air suspension is a terrific car, reliable, and a steal if bought in well maintained condition. I have owned the 964 and the 993. Would love to have a nice Panamera...especially at current bargain basement prices. Also, the 996 or 997...but I would convert the IMS bearing to the IMS bushing, using an after-market kit.
I have a 400$ 928s it never broke mechanically, sounded great, a completely clapped a 2.0 genesis turbo, and even after it got put in a wall it still drove and I'm currently fixing it. It also gets the most attention of any car I've owned, every gas station someone would freak out over the car.

I have a 2016 Macan Turbo with the 3.6 V6 and thanks to your video ended up doing a bolt swap on the timing chain cover as 2 of the aluminum bolts were broken and leaking oil and I only thought to check those thanks to your video. It's tough because for me the car is the perfect size as we are a family of 3 and my daughter is relatively short and wow do I love to drive it as I have never driven anything with that kind of power and handing before but taking off the entire front end to do that repair was a very daunting task. Hopefully with the bolt swap and new gaskets my oil leak issues will be behind me because I only have 25k km on the car and I absolutely love it. You were right about the aluminum bolts though and everyone should be warned! What a mistake to put aluminum bolts in a SUV/CUV whatever you want to call it, a sports car I could understand but really? Thank you again.
For the 914, a clear distinction must be made between the VW engined 914-4 and the Porsche engined 914-6 .
I would buy a 914-6 immediately if one were available. It was a go kart with much better handling than a 911. With the same engine.
I now own a 1996 993 turbo, and 914-6 is the other Porsche I would have. I sold my 1969 911S to buy the turbo, which was a good exchange. I have owned various Porsches for over 40 years.

914 was a car designed partially by Porsche for VW-Audi, but they didn't want to use it.

I love this series. I just subscribed. My only knock would be that you don’t see them unless there’s a problem. I’m sure you’re correct about most though.
I went and did the Porsche Experience. It was amazing. I wanted a 911 my whole life but after that I’ve been lusting after the Taycan and Cayman. The acceleration of the Taycan is unreal and power and handling of the Cayman felt like the perfect combination.
My dad had a 914 that we were always working on….it was the car I learned how to drive in so I have soft spot for it.
I used to dislike the Panamera, until I drove a GTS and it is an amazing car.
Agreed, my family had a 2014 GTS and it was awesome. Also, the Wizard doesn't realize how much more spacious they are compared to the Taycan. I have endless room in the Panamera, but in the Taycan my head touches the ceiling at 6 foot.
Panameras are great cars and the newer models look gorgeous. The ultimate family car.

I loved my 986, but I bought it with a bad IMS. Thank god this thing was based on the 911, it was not hard to swap in a 996 X51 engine in it and do a Pedro's IMS retrofit to keep me from staying awake at night. It was an Ebay engine but it lasted from 55,000 miles to 240,000 miles.
I'd take a 914 over a 924 any day of the week...and the 914-6 with the 2.0L 911 engine is a nice car by any measure.

I owned my first 1984 928 S in 1990 i was 23 years old. The car was the most reliable Porsche made. All you had to do do a timing belt service when it is due. If you don’t and the timing belt broke do not worry because the 928 S has non interference engine. That is not the case in the 928 S4 because it is an interference engine, so you have to make sure to do the timing maintenance on time. I drove my 928 S for years and the maintenance was tires, brakes/rotors, oil change ...... like any other car if you do the maintenance. I disagree with the car wizard on this particular one. But that is his own opening and I respect that. I currently own 1984 928S and 1989 928 S4 and both are in excellent running condition and fun to drive.
I disagree with him on the 928. That's the Porche I would want. They look like nothing else.
@port nut I know the price of parts is terrible, but we have the internet and you tube now for figuring things out. If they can fix my eyes next year and I can drive again, I'm probably going for a pre 1992 or 3 Mercedes when they were still analog cars. However I would love a 928 if I found one that was well sorted and not skyrocketed price.

Not on the 928 he isn't. You can't assess a 928 until you've done a few thousand miles in one.
Come on man. If given a choice with unlimited money (like he did with the 911 RS from the 70s) you are NOT going to take a Boxster over any 911 from the 90s and there are some incredible 911s in the 90s.
The Boxster S did not even exist in the 90's - just the boxster. His recommendation to buy a 1974 RS 3.0 is laughable. They are even rarer than a Carrera GT - and the price is about a million.

My 928S4 ran 13.9 1/4 mile regularly . Got it up to 165 mph, had more, just ran out of road.
The 928S4 was the fastest production car in the world at the time with a top speed of 172... Fast 35 years ago; still fast today.

I live on the east coast. Found mine in California. Got a one was ticket to LAX, picked it up and drove it back to MD. Got my kicks on 66. It was the best road trip adventure ever!!
It was my daily driver for a decade.
It does cost like a Porsche... because it is. The are no factory guys left. If you can't work on it yourself don't buy it. If you can, it's one of the best cars ever. That said, I don't recommend buying one. If you want a fast affordable car remember the famous Risky Business quote-
Corvette, "There is no substitute"

Good video, I do like the 986 boxters as they’re good cars. I’ve seen three of them (track/solely race cars) burn down motors due to cooling issues (mainly cap going bad). However I do disagree with avoiding 90s 911s. Only 97 forward were 996 (water cooled) The earlier 993s were pretty good and the 964 was also a sweet car. Most of the aircooled stuff was nice and worth a ton now!

I love the 928s. My dad had one in the early 90s. 0-60 5.7 seconds. I think they look cool. He was a Porsche and VAG foreman technician though so worked on it himself
Totally agree. Car Wizard talks absolute nonsense. I had an S and S4 and they were both awesome, fast, (I reached 257kph in my S4 with plenty to spare!), are very comfortable with extremely high build quality as you know. The later models have also aged very well. They are expensive to maintain, but so are many sports cars.
He's completely out of his mind talking about the 928. My dad has a silver one and it's beautiful. He gets asked all the time if it's a new car and it's fast! Unreal engineering. Dumb opinion.
@@andrewb4470 my 1987 928S4 with 165, 000km costs less in maintenance and repairs than my 2010 Mercedes c200cgi which has had so many failures and only 40,000km. My 928 is a joy to own and drive which is why I have kept if for 27 years.

Mine was also an '87 model, manual gearbox, silver blue in colour with midnight blue interior. I also imported the teardrop mirrors which made it look even better, hard to believe as that is! I unfortunately had to sell it as I relocated overseas. Wish I still had it as I enjoyed it immensely. What colour is yours, if I may ask?

The Wizard has no right to tell the world "just dont buy one" based on his limited experience. The 928 was in production for 17 years. A long time for "such a bad car"..🙄
The 928 is the first production car ever with a rack on a flush aerodynamic roof, common nowadays but unheard of back then
I was also super excited for pure electric cars some 2 years ago, not so much now, since there is so much dirty work in the electric cars getting the cobalt and other materials to produce the batteries and an electric car is definitely not "green" , and yes, charging it is a nightmare for most of the people.

Wizard, I know that you said that you're opinion is based on the shop and not figures and data, but one of those horrible 914s beat every 911 in the 1970 Le Mans 24 by at least 3 laps. The only cars in front of it were purpose built endurance racers. Underated little sports car. Just mind the rust.

@@rep100Luxio Just mentioning one often overlooked fact. The 914 could beat the 911 on the track. You just needed two things: 1) a 911 engine instead of a VW, and 2) so much rain that the rear engined cars spun backwards off the circuit. Those early 911s were better on a rally stage when the pendulum effect of the rear weight bias and short wheelbase would flick a good driver around a tight corner. A wet track could turn that benefit into a curse.

I picked up a '76 914 (2.0 liter) from the back of the dealer's lot many years ago for $150. Shift mechanism was totally out of whack, it had numerous coats of paint, now peeling down to the rusty metal. But it was actually fast. The 2.0 was a nice unit and in that lightweight car, moved it along nicely. In fact, for several months after buying it and sorting it out, I thought the speedo was reading 20MPH too high- turns out it wasn't. How I didn't get a ticket during that time is a mystery. If you do want one, find a CA version with no rust (if possible).

You're absolutely right, except for the 996, those laid the foundation of modern Porsches. The 996 Turbo S is a beast!!! And don't forget the le mans cars 996 GT1 etc...
My 2009 Cayman has a manual and Its one of my favorite cars. The looks and lines of the 987.2 Caymans are almost perfect.
The car is great but had major safety issue that was later redesigned that the clutch cable made too sharp a turn and would randomly snap. This occurred x3 in mine. There were stories of people shifting during a pass and nearly getting killed by this defect.
We had a 2000 boxster. A really nice driving car. You have to have the defective bearing replaced which we did then no worries. We gave it to our nephew who now enjoys driving it in Boise Idaho.

928 are great cars - I've owned 6 of them. You just need to know what you are getting into, like any used Porsche. Cheap to buy, expensive to keep running properly and in good shape. Try and keep them running on a budget - and you will have a non-running 928. Parts are very expensive and many repairs take hours to complete. The newest one is now ~26 years old so beware - they are complicated cars with lots of things that simply are gone due to age. Once sorted and taken care of they are really cool cars. Nice, later model GT/GTS examples are skyrocketing in price.
Very true. Car Wizard shows his ignorance by saying 'all 928's are junk'. That is utter nonsense and untrue. I've owned an S and S4, and as we both know they are awesome to drive with extremely high build quality. They are expensive to maintain, but so are many high-end sports cars. I would buy a GTS any day if I could find one in my area.

Had a Panamera Turbo S - super fast & fun when driven aggressively, but as daily driver it’s not too comfy plus even w warranty I was always nervous about repairs. One day I might get Panamera V6 w standard suspension.

I always like the "Buy this, Not that" series and value the advice. I am 70 years old, and recently drove the Taycan, and build wise, tech wise, and perceived quality wise, it is the most amazing car I have ever driven. My assumption is that there will be some of the these Gen 1 versions with low milage available resale market as the range improves on the newer versions.
New battery tech could make it very good to get an old one and put new batteries in, if Porsche can be hacked to do that.
The taycan turbo s was excellent when I was in one right as they were delivered to the dealership. However I think that the 911 turbo is the best overall car that porsche makes.

I think your opinion is valid. You gave clear explanation as to why you chose one over another. Personally, I like the Cayman in the Porsche line, when considering fun and cost.

my brother in law still has his 914/6 - he's had it since 86, I think. Still going strong with 180k on the clock. I found and rebuilt a 964 (C4) that is a hoot to drive. I wouldn't have been able to pay someone else to do the work, but I've been at this for decades, so it wasn't that difficult. You get to know them and where to find parts, and it gets much smoother.
964 & 993 are cream of the crop for 911's
In 100 years or so I can definitely see the runny egg headlights bringing a massive premium. It's a one of a kind styling feature in the history of the 911, and it was the first water cooled model
I agree. The headlights come from the 911 GT1 that won Le Mans in 1998.
We've had a 914-6 in the family before. An amazing car. The 914 was never intended to be a competitor for the 911. But it's way better than a MG Miget, Triumph Spitfire and other lower cost import sports cars of the era. It's about the experience. It is what it is and it was good at being what it was.
I gotta say, wizard's right on the money here. my daily driver is a 2011 cayman s with pdk, have had next to no problems with the car. just scheduled maintenance. reliable, just the right amount of power, can lug around a surprising amount of stuff, and a head turner. maybe a future classic.
1998 944S - owned and cherished for 30years - immaculate totally reliable and still turns heads with Carrera Cup alloys - part of my appreciating pension pot!! Keep the faith Wizard

I really like your practical approach on why you didn’t get a Taycan. The day will come where fast charging plugs become common place but we’re not quite there… yet.
We're not even close to there. Plus, the faster you charge, the quicker the battery degrades. Some progress.

It's a different paradigm altogether, y'all. Your house is your gas station. Every time you get home, you plug in the car. My Fiat 500E only goes 80-90 miles on a charge and I've never used a public charger in the year I've owned it. Current EV's aren't the best solution for some people, but for most folks' average daily use, they're hard to beat.
@@L0VEGL0VE Yeah, I own a 2013 S. Battery capacity has gone down a bit over the years, but I average about 3.5 cents a mile with my electric rate. Sometimes when I drive I can get it down to about 2.5 cents a mile.
We drove the new Macon, my wife said the same as Wizard. We bought a 2019 Cayenne. Love it

I got my '06 Cayman S for $20K with 65000 miles on it 2 years ago. I hardly ever drive my other cars anymore. I love it.

@@armatar Do you have to drop the engine to change spark plugs since it's mid-engine? Like what maintenance stuff requires the engine to be out?
@@SI0AX you can get to most things without dropping the engine. Plugs are reachable from the sides once I have it up on the quickjack with the wheels off, the top engine cover comes off for the air filter and other things, and front engine cover comes off behind the seats for belts, quite amazing really.

My neighbor has a 914 that's fully restored; it has the 6 cylinder engine. I love it!!! He spent a lot restoring it but they're selling upwards of $50k in this condition. I know the normal 4 cylinder is a POS for a purist, but I'd buy one for under $20k and fix it up myself. Harder to work on than a Lotus but these cars are not rocket science.
What about an early 4 that's converted to a six cylinder? Bad idea? I have a bead on a '73 1.7 litre and I'm wondering if the conversion would just ruin it at this point.
I dont understand your view on the 928 tho, I always adored that car and I dont even like Porsche's. Its not fast by todays standards, but as a GT car its awesome and it will do 150+mph all day long on the autobahn. And the styling is just timeless in my eyes
His view is formed by seeing all the poor examples still floating around on the market. Not to mention slow and federalized. I can guarantee you he hasn't seen or driven a good example RoW spec version.

I took delivery of a 2014 Boxster S , PDK , non - turbo in the fall of 2013. This is my first and only Porsche. It is my daily driver with 85K miles. It gets 24mpg city and 32mpg on the highway using premium. In the 9 years of driving it had two problems. First the top of the door panels where you would rest your arm started to separate from the door. My dealer replaced both doors, a $7000 repair, at no cost. The second problem was a failed radiator cap that released all my fluid. I bought a new cap and have had no problems since. This is a great car to take on long road trips as i can put 2 pieces of luggage in the front and one in the rear. I do my own oil changes and filter replacements. The plugs are a pain to get at so I send it to my mechanic every 50k. I have looked at the new Boxster with a bigger engine and no-turbo. If I was in the market to buy that is the model I would buy, but my Boxster is running to well. I think its a keeper.
