I can see the use of a bench shirt to help get your body used to heavier weight (along with other methods) but if someone asks you what you bench, telling them your bench shirt weight and not mentioning it's with a bench shirt is like telling a girl you have 12 inches and when the time comes to do the deed, you pull out a 6 inch extender and attach it to your junk.

Both these records don't mean nothing. I have the crane assisted bench press world record at 7849 kg.
The difference between raw and equipped is that most equipped bench press warm-up sets are rows. They basically have to row the bar so it touches their chest.
What's more interesting to me is how fast of a jump it is from 740 to 800 when you look back at how long to go from 700-740. The raw wr I mean.
Jimmy Kolb was just on Dave Tate's Table Talk, it was a fun listen.
he was fun to listen, i hope he sees the 1500lb equipped bench he wants to see weather its from him or not
@horseman315hc If anyone does it, its gonna be him, dude is the only person to bench 1200 and 1300, as well as the heaviest single ply bench at 1120, hes in his own league
It was a great interview and he did in fact address the issue of raw vs equipped. Its just different. He even got into how band shirts are now a different class than multiply (in his federation). To each his or her own. I’m impressed with both. If Kolb drops that 1400 lbs bar without competent spotters and body savers, he will be cut in two.
@@MiniKoolAid 1120lbs single ply is simple incredible, all the people I know that bench 700+ equipped in the IPF are 500lbs+ raw bencher, no doubt he could crush 800lbs

Shirted benching is both amazing and ludicrous.
Yea it feels like it is mostly about bone and ligament strength to just not break rather than having as strong muscles as possible
No safety equipment, just raw power...Great lift there mate.
I do powerlifting and find it confusing at times cuz hear of so many records. It sorta feels like Guiness Records at times, a record for every different variation possible. Everyone just says "bench record" too, not "89kg raw bench record". For example.
And there's also a difference between tested records and untested records. IPF still hasn't had a 400 kg deadlift for example.
And for different federations, states, countries...
@@MrPtrlix Yeah, true, but the only people that care about the distinction are the untested people because they love to act all holier-than-thou as if taking steroids is some black mark of shame.
Julius’s strength is off the charts
I like how a world record has a footage recording worse than a bigfoot sighting
lol
I'm confident about the 800 lbs bench and 505 kg deadlift this year
while i don’t necessarily miss equipped benching, my god i hated those workouts. Getting the suit on and off took damn near 30 minutes and after a bench session i would have popped blood vessels in my eyes. It was cool getting to overload my CNS by benching 150+lbs more than my raw bench but damn that was tiring. Julius could probably do 1200lbs assuming + 50% overload which is the typical percentage for the elite
My only query with Maddox is that his technique doesn’t look like it would translate very well to a bench shirt
Jimmy Kolb can rep 450 for like 25 that's nuts. Those guys are powerful
Reverse grip.. you forgot to mention that.
Also he can reverse grip bench press +600 lbs for reps.
People need to stop acting like equipped lifters are weak. It’s just a different sport. Most do it for various reasons ranging from injuries to simply it’s more fun. Most of those guys and girls are crazy strong
One thing I find weird is that usually you fail just of the chest on bench for most people but alot of the time these top benchers fail near lockout of stall at lockout
Elite lifters have massive pecs and excellent leg drive, making the bottom portion of the lift relatively easier. On the other hand, locking out weight requires sufficient triceps strength, which becomes a limiting factor for many top guys when they’re moving such ludicrous weights
I think it's just because the triceps are the weak point, like when you get stuck on the overhead press it's usually the triceps which fail you, so you can get the bar moving often but just can't push with the triceps to lock it out.
I'm likely older than a few of your viewer's so it's hard to convey how big equipped lifting was late 90s/ early 2000's but everyone in the sport was amazed when Ryan Kennelly hit 800 it was unbelievable and started a epic rivalry with Scot Mendelson and Gene Rychlak. And for what it's worth all those lifters were huge raw benchers but raw wasn't a thing back then. Iirc Scot Mendelson is still the only man to hold equipped and raw bench press world records at the same time.
This was not multiply either, it is a banded shirt which is another division,, multiply wr is in the 1100s i believe
Weren't Julius, and Daniel Zamani supposed to compete at iron wars?

What concerns me the most about equipped lift is, the weights keep increasing as the equippement improves, but how much more can the bones hold to that much pressure? I can see someone have his arms broken due to just the weight. At the moment i think it has become way to dangerous
there are many not so bright people in this world
The reality is nobody cares about or respects equipped lifting. It is a parody of itself.
it's different. It comes with new challenges with those kinds of weight. Jimmy kolb and Blaine Sumner (he has the highest squat in IPF history, 515 kg) both have problems with oscillation, with the bar being uncontrollable. Having half more than half a ton over your head or on your back is pretty badass.
Edit : There are also stories about feeling your bones bending under the weight, which I find pretty cool
I was thinking exactly the same... i look at equipped like "i'm scared to compete with the rest of the world"... none cares about equipped and also the competiotion is A LOT LESS
it's like comparing the pole vault & the high jump
Yo man sup. Yes! Why not compete in reverse band lifts? I said raw has held back power lifting so badly and massive arching benches and uber wide sumo is now doing the same thing. Normal gym bros cant relate or respect it.
Zoomers don't respect the godfathers of powerlifting
How do you get on the subscriber highlights?
For 1 none of the Westside barbell guys have benched over maybe 1015 and that was maybe Dave Hoff. So that guy does not know what he is talking about, Jimmy Kolb has the equipped wr and he is not from Westside barbell. Also equipped bench is different than raw bench. Both guys are super strong.
I'm mind blown at how confident and stupid some people can be at the same time.
they're usually directly proportional
It's called the Dunning Krueger Effect
People that complain don't understand how long it takes to get your lift numbers up when you are pretty much at the maximum peak of it...
You seen any other conventional deadlifter go to 510,20,30? It's only a little change. How hard can it be? At that maximum weight for you...its fucken alot
Annnnnd you need to make sure during these hard training sessions to push your body to the limit that you dont get injured...
Everyone that is talking shit about equipped lifting has clearly never tried it. The amount of strength it takes to control a weight way over your raw max without losing it or getting out of position is ridiculous. Most people who try equipped lifting won't be able to do much over their raw max at first in comparison to these elite guys. Completely different skill set and in my opinion equipped lifting is much more stressful and there's much more room for things to go wrong. Respect both for what they are different divisions of the same sport just like tested vs untested divisions.
My best ever bench is 335, how much would I realistically be able to do with all that equipment?
~500lbs with months of training with the shirt
@@xRaffer months or years (depending on whether you’re being coached and by who).
Immediately? Probably 335. The shirts only allow you to press more weight if you can support it in the first place. The training is totally different that’s why almost no one competes both raw and equipped. 335 raw is impressive btw good job
Kolb could likely do well over 700 raw if he tried, but this still suggests that the shirt is assisting 500 to 600 pounds. Would love to see Kolb go after the raw record as well.

They should have a forklift assisted class. Imagine how high that can go.
Would be curious what kolb could bench raw. Doesn't sound like he has any interest in competing raw but wouldn't at all be surprised if he could bench well over 700
Equipped bench scares me. If that suit fails it could be the end.
Wow, I know nothing about power lifting or what equipped bench means, but holy crap to even move that weight is impressed.
All WR holders are undeniably strong. It’s just weird watching the equipped as it’s seemingly so bizarre.
The equipped bench presses should be called "shirt presses" to distinguish them from true bench pressing. Between these shirts, sumo style deadlifting and a few other antics, powerlifting which was once televised on national tv, will forever be a small event for a narrow viewing market. Same, too, for O-lifts where the snatch and CJ are correlated at around 98+ %.
You do realise it was equipped powerlifting that was televised on TV right?
I don't knock the Equiped benchers, Jimmy Kolb as a very powerful Bench that would beat most RAW lifters, however he ain't gonna beat Julius.
Jimmy Raw bench is still crazy, 600 pounds or more
And Julius won't be able to beat jimmy in equiped if he ever decides to switch. Equpied requires different skill set
I think any man holding 599kg above his chest is impressive I think a lot of people including myself once I put on a bench shirt expecting my bench to go from 500+ pounds raw to at least 600 lol couldn’t even touch my chest with the bar ….deadlift suits even know I think suits should be banned from strongman there’s that argument that they protect your body and strongman is brutal sport for the athletes that don’t wear them I think it’s a bit unfair
I think the bench shirt levels it out for people not on PEDs, more skill required over strength.

But someone did something like this with more than 620kg hahaha
My first thought, as well. My arms would snap just holding it in front of my chest and I'm a trained powerlifter who still lifts regularly. I'm imagining my metacarpals being pulverized from the pressure if my radius and ulna don't snap from the weight.

Put your hands so wide that your elbows are locked at the bottom, arch your back as much as possible, then press it up 1/4" with your calves.
