    Each bar (or puck) can last up to 60 washes - the equivalent of three bottles! They’re a great way to show love for the planet because they’re completely packaging free. Lots of washes and good for the environment - now that’s something worth celebrating!

    To have an even greater impact against plastic, can you guys consider a refillable station for your body washes? Maybe you can make it cheaper if we bring our own bottles.

      Lush does a cool program with their pots and bottles where you can bring the empty ones back after you are done with the product. They will sanitize them and then reuse them!

      You can return (i think 5?) of lushes plastic packaging products in store and get a free face mask :) they then re-use those bottles to minimise the waste

      kat2me2456 they don't do it for the plastic bottles, but I already do the return 5 black pots. This is about further improving their recycling system.

    If there was a way you could make shampoo bars without sodium lauryl sulfate that would be amazing. I have noticed a difference in my hair since swearing off of sulfates and it would really be in the lush realm to make shampoo bars without sulfates

    • @hollycatharinebritt
      @hollycatharinebritt 6 років тому +31

      The white flecks in the shampoo bar are SLS. It acts as the binder for the shampoo bar, to keep it from crumbling but also makes it lather. I doubt they'd be able to come out with an alternative without some crazy chemicals. They could use a sulfate that isn't as harsh, but it would probably cost significantly more money. I am waiting for when they stop adding SLS to their body washes and liquid shampoos, at least they could more easily do that.

      Holly Britt tons of other companies have shampoo bars without sulfates! Chagrin Valley Soap and Salve & JR Liggetts to name a few. It is definitely possible and you'd think Lush would be at the forefront of that movement after relentless feedback begging for sulfate free shampoo bars.

    • @hollycatharinebritt
      @hollycatharinebritt 6 років тому +11

      I feel like Lush's objective with their shampoo bars is that they are small, don't need to be wrapped, and will last many many washes. They want them to last a long time to save their costumers money and not produce so much waste. Also those shampoo bars from those companies are basically cold process soap bars, they'd have to completely rebrand their soaps and redescribe them. But to preserve the integrity of what they have now they'd have to keep using some sort of sulfate for them to continue to have the same look, feel, and results.

      Lush chooses not to go to an alternative due to the fact that there is little evidence behind all of these new alternatives that they won’t have side effects down the road. Though there are myths about SLS there is no link to any kind of bad long term effects and has had over 100 years of use behind it. Keep in mind that lush has to be able to supply hundreds of stores with this alternative while still keeping their ethical values such as it being fair trade and sourced from a company that doesn’t test on animals. Very hard to do. There’s just a lot of factors

    I’ve been shopping at Lush since the end of last year and thought shampoo bars weren’t for me. I have curly hair and it’s also bleached. This weekends my boyfriend and I went on a small vacation and I didn’t bring a shampoo since I didn’t think I’d need to. Well I did lol so we went to the Lush there and I got a Honey I Washed My Hair bar and I’m in LOVE. My hair feels so clean and no issues washing the lather out. 😳 They’re so great for travel and make the shower smell so delicious!!

    I missed seeing Erica, I love her!! The shampoo bars are great. I was a huge skeptic of SLS in any product, but when I started to realize that LUSH uses a coconut based sulfate I was more willing to give it a go. SLS only refers to one of three kinds of sulfates, so it is important to know what the label on a product is saying. Also a sulfate is necessary to create a lather and rinse off afterwards. If it doesn't say sodium lauryl sulfate, it has another kind of sulfate in their. Most of the SLS scare is really part of fear marketing. It doesn't have any scientifically proven harm or damage to the body and is also biodegradable!

    anyway i love the shampoo bars , not expensive at all for how long they last ! i don't mind that much the SLS in there since it doesn't really affect my hair & scalp and it is balanced with all those oils & butters anyway. i do mind the negative environmental impact that it has on the oceans though , maybe you could use Sodium Coco Sulfate instead? it's way more gentle , and i've seen that you guys put it in some bath bombs and naked shower gels !

    I had a yellow one a while back but I don’t think I came anywhere close to 80 uses- even saying 40 seems generous. Granted I had thick and long hair but I only rubbed it at my scalp. I felt that it was harsh and abrasive, but enjoy the idea of a solid bar of shampoo. In the future if there is a way to further concentrate it and make is better for hair (no sulfates, ok for colored hair etc.) I’d try it again due to the lesser environmental impact

      Carina Collins have you tried your local farmer's market?. Most people that make and sell soap makes shampoo bars.

    • @kittennz
      @kittennz 6 років тому +2

      It's hard to find shampoo without any sulfates. If you are looking for something gentler than SLS there are other solid shampoo brands the use naturally sourced sulfates that are less harsh.
      I think New Zealand's Ethique brand which is formulated by a science major has pretty good range.
      However do not buy soap vendor's shampoo bars as they are just standard cold process soap which are too basic in pH level and will damage hair and scalp making it brittle. Soap is not shampoo.

    • @glowyintentions6005

      They put oils and butters in the shampoo bars to combat any dryness the sulfates might bring. And you don’t have to put the bar directly on your hair. Liquid shampoos are more concentrated and they go directly on scalp. The shampoo bars , you can work up a lather in your hands and then work that into your hair so the lather is less harmful than the actual formula.

    I have the seanik shampoo bar! Perfect if u wanna be a sea dragon! This is my #1 perfect everyday shampoo! I can't wait to get my Big Naked pressed conditioner and I put it in a small mesh drawstring bag to make it mess-free & make it easy to get the "liquid" out. It kinda almost looks like rice cake. I got a Golden Egg Bath Bomb for Easter this year, I like to draw a simple icon on my round tins to represents the scent and theme the shampoo bar like for example: Seanik🌊, Spicy=🔥, Floral=🌺, Sweet=🍬🍭, Cirtusy=🍊🍋,
    I'm probably gonna do a drawing of my favorite wings of fire character, Princess Tsunami Of The Seawings on a lounge couch bed all naked & saying, "I rather go naked than use plastic packaging."

    Why did my Jason & the Argan Oil shampoo bar turn into FUN? It became super soft and sticky after a few washes. Kinda sad.

      BEcause you didn't let it dry properly. Don't leave it in a puddle, put it on a soap tray.

    I love the idea of a shampoo bar but the ones I used (honey I washed the kids and coconut rice) builds up on my hair after a couple of washes and leaves a heavy, sticky residue.
    When I wash my hair with a regular shampoo it goes away. I would love to use only shampoo bars but it just doesn't work for me. Am I the only one?

    Hi! I would like to ask how to prevent dundruff or which shampoo bar is the best? I have my soak and float, but I feel like it is too drying and than I have jason and argan oil and that one doesn't seem to help with that as well :(

      Hi Michaela, Our Lullaby shampoo bar is another lovely choice for sensitive scalps. This lovely bar contains calming oat milk which may help with adding more hydration to the hair. www.lushusa.com/hair/shampoo-bars/lullaby/05596.html 💜

    Here's something I've had a problem with and I don't know if it's just me or if anyone else has had this issue. For the past year (ish) Retread conditioner isn't as thick as it used to be. And really, it's just too liquid to be in a tub. I think it would be better delivered in a bottle. I (for one) would waste less. Trying to pour from the tub into my hand while in the shower and without glasses on is kinda messy. Is there a way to thicken it? Or better yet, bottle it. The product is still as wonderful as it has been for the past three years that I've been using it, but like I said, for the past year it's been more liquidy.

    Ok these shampoo bars are intriguing but how drying are these on the hair? I have very thick, coarse, wire-like hair that needs hydration like you won't believe - and just using traditional shampoo won't cut it.

      Hi there, Lauren! Our Copperhead shampoo bar was made with color treated hair in mind, as it's lightly cleansing and has a dose of conditioning henna. Check it out here: www.lushusa.com/hair/shampoo-bars/copperhead/05565.html

    i really wish that you guys made a shampoo bar without SLS and pharabens, i have curly hair it all your shampoo bars are so drying to my hair, even the ‘godiva’, ‘honey i washed the kids’ as well as ‘jason and the argon oil’. i would love to go package free shampoo wise but it so hard when i don’t like the drying feeling, or like those ingredients in general for my hair and scalp.

    • @LUSH

      Hi Kayla! I totally understand the choice to go SLS free and it is something that has definitely been brought to our attention. We would be more than happy to pass this feedback along to our teams as we move forward with product innovation, and hopefully, we can see some new change in the future. 💕

      that would be so great! I understand that creating a sly version wuldn come with its challenges. id happily buy a version with no sls , and i know of so many others, especally curly girls, that would aswell. same idea with the conditioners, i love to co wash you guys have for curly hair but would love to see a conditioner with a thicker consistencey and sls free. id love to get all my curly hair products from you guys in the future!

    Most people that make soap and sell on ettsy and or farmer's markets make shampoo bars. My friend makes her's with olive oil, coconut oil and palm oil. Natural mint and rosemary. That's it! None of the bad stuff at all

    • @kittennz
      @kittennz 6 років тому +2

      Those aren't shampoo bars but soap bars. Their high basic pH level isn't good for hair. A shampoo should contain surfactants. It's much easier and especially cheaper to make soap bars and call it shampoo which is dishonest and misleading. Saying it doesn't include bad stuff because they cheap out and sell cold process soap by calling it shampoo is greedy and just as bad as chemical laden supermarket shampoo.

    • @humanbean8590
      @humanbean8590 6 років тому +1

      Palm oil actually is bad stuff. It is natural sure but very bad for the environment. They need to destroy rain forest to farm it.

  • @fealubryne

    I actually used one of these when I had my dreadlocks. I can't remember the name now, but it did a fantastic job of cleaning my hair without gunking it up, and then I used R&B on my scalp/roots. I do wish there were no sulfates used, but at the same time I get such fantastic results for my thirsty AF skim and hair from LUSH products I'm really not keen on using other brands. Nothing quite matches the fact that I don't get ashy for days after using their stuff, and since I need help with showering/lotioning it's fantastic.
