- Erica’s here to give you the lowdown on one of our favorite, most effective and most popular inventions - the shampoo bar.
Each bar (or puck) can last up to 60 washes - the equivalent of three bottles! They’re a great way to show love for the planet because they’re completely packaging free. Lots of washes and good for the environment - now that’s something worth celebrating!

That’s why we’re on a mission to create effective products from fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, fight against animal testing, and combat over-packaging by developing products that can be sold ‘naked’ (packaging-free).

To have an even greater impact against plastic, can you guys consider a refillable station for your body washes? Maybe you can make it cheaper if we bring our own bottles.
CiPp35 that’s a good idea but what about the ones ordering online??? You can refill from a screen
Lush does a cool program with their pots and bottles where you can bring the empty ones back after you are done with the product. They will sanitize them and then reuse them!
You can return (i think 5?) of lushes plastic packaging products in store and get a free face mask :) they then re-use those bottles to minimise the waste
kat2me2456 they don't do it for the plastic bottles, but I already do the return 5 black pots. This is about further improving their recycling system.
Gabi Driggers what do you mean?? Then don't buy bottled shampoos online.
If there was a way you could make shampoo bars without sodium lauryl sulfate that would be amazing. I have noticed a difference in my hair since swearing off of sulfates and it would really be in the lush realm to make shampoo bars without sulfates
The white flecks in the shampoo bar are SLS. It acts as the binder for the shampoo bar, to keep it from crumbling but also makes it lather. I doubt they'd be able to come out with an alternative without some crazy chemicals. They could use a sulfate that isn't as harsh, but it would probably cost significantly more money. I am waiting for when they stop adding SLS to their body washes and liquid shampoos, at least they could more easily do that.
Preserve the bar! Hehe
Holly Britt tons of other companies have shampoo bars without sulfates! Chagrin Valley Soap and Salve & JR Liggetts to name a few. It is definitely possible and you'd think Lush would be at the forefront of that movement after relentless feedback begging for sulfate free shampoo bars.
I feel like Lush's objective with their shampoo bars is that they are small, don't need to be wrapped, and will last many many washes. They want them to last a long time to save their costumers money and not produce so much waste. Also those shampoo bars from those companies are basically cold process soap bars, they'd have to completely rebrand their soaps and redescribe them. But to preserve the integrity of what they have now they'd have to keep using some sort of sulfate for them to continue to have the same look, feel, and results.
Lush chooses not to go to an alternative due to the fact that there is little evidence behind all of these new alternatives that they won’t have side effects down the road. Though there are myths about SLS there is no link to any kind of bad long term effects and has had over 100 years of use behind it. Keep in mind that lush has to be able to supply hundreds of stores with this alternative while still keeping their ethical values such as it being fair trade and sourced from a company that doesn’t test on animals. Very hard to do. There’s just a lot of factors
I love when companies show us who to use their products. I have greatly improved my lush game since watching these videos. For example, the bar does get stuck and just having that small tip of how to air it out just changed the game for me.
When I tell you my hair has been completely transformed in the best way possible, I am not kidding. Honey I washed my hair is simply amazing
These bars are the BEST. My hair stays fresh for 4-5 days, my scalp is so healthy and not irritated and they last forever. My favorites are Honey I Washed My Hair and the red Argan Oil one.
Do u still love the bars? And What type off hair Do u have? Thinking off going to the lush store next week
I just want a give Erica Vega a shoutout ! Back in 2014 when I first heard of LUSH she was there to teach me all about it and now I work for LUSH ! And she’s still killing the game !!!
They work well. But NEVER leave then in a non draining soap dish. It will end up like a soggy piece of bread. I personally like the soak and floats scent.
disagree with me If you have a dollar tree near you, they sell two sizes of soap savers. that's all I use for my lush products.
I've been using your Argan oil and #92 shampoos all year and the two bars have lasted me since LAST January. I use each one about once a week and have loved how they have made my hair. I also love not having the shampoo bottle graveyard in my shower corner anymore
It's such a great way to save space and waste, I love it! - Sophie
15 years of lush shampoo bars and still loving them! saved my scalp.
Please... talk about conditioner bars, I love how they smell but I don't feel they are doing their job.
Milette Diaz if you use them by going down your hair in small circles, sectioning off your hair, it works perfectly. Very specific technique that nobody seems to know about hahah
Shampoo bars are GENIUS! My fave is definitely Jumping Juniper- great for oily hair!
I’ve been shopping at Lush since the end of last year and thought shampoo bars weren’t for me. I have curly hair and it’s also bleached. This weekends my boyfriend and I went on a small vacation and I didn’t bring a shampoo since I didn’t think I’d need to. Well I did lol so we went to the Lush there and I got a Honey I Washed My Hair bar and I’m in LOVE. My hair feels so clean and no issues washing the lather out. 😳 They’re so great for travel and make the shower smell so delicious!!
I missed seeing Erica, I love her!! The shampoo bars are great. I was a huge skeptic of SLS in any product, but when I started to realize that LUSH uses a coconut based sulfate I was more willing to give it a go. SLS only refers to one of three kinds of sulfates, so it is important to know what the label on a product is saying. Also a sulfate is necessary to create a lather and rinse off afterwards. If it doesn't say sodium lauryl sulfate, it has another kind of sulfate in their. Most of the SLS scare is really part of fear marketing. It doesn't have any scientifically proven harm or damage to the body and is also biodegradable!
I love how eco friendly these are!! I love how LUSH has been making them for so long! :)
These videos are so well produced and presented. It’s really a shame that they don’t get as much love as is put into them.
I'm feelin' your love Mara. 😘
She is so sweet and knowledgeable! Would love to see her talk about more Lush products!
A sulfate free, moisture rich bar for color treated hair and people who are allergic to sulfates would put you in next level awesomeness! #ImAllergicToSulfatesAndHaveColoredHair
The story about the competition is mind blowing. Mind. Blowing.
I love this product, it smells great and leaves my hair feeling great as well ... And i believe it helped my dandruff as well ...
That's just goes to show how forward thinking you guys were even then 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. I love the idea of no packaging, but I also love the reusable tin also.
As a makeup artist I find them perfect for brush cleaning; also I love the ice cream sprikle effect 🍦💕
the videos that include erica are my favorites , i could listen to her talking for hours
anyway i love the shampoo bars , not expensive at all for how long they last ! i don't mind that much the SLS in there since it doesn't really affect my hair & scalp and it is balanced with all those oils & butters anyway. i do mind the negative environmental impact that it has on the oceans though , maybe you could use Sodium Coco Sulfate instead? it's way more gentle , and i've seen that you guys put it in some bath bombs and naked shower gels !
I love the jumping for juniper shampoo bar but mine always gets stuck in the tin, I’ll have to try out that hack! Them getting stuck in the tins is the only downside I had with it. I have long super thick hair and I find that the bars work perfectly for me.
I'm obsessed with Seanik! My favorite one
I started using shampoo bars with Jumping Juniper, I’m sad I can no longer purchase them in store, so I’m now using Seanik, works as great
Kana Ken--I'm also a bummed Jumping Juniper fan.
Mary Drake ;~;
It’s literally my favorite lush scent ever.
hi which one is goof for dry hair?
Kana Ken i went in today, and my store had it! It may be worth checking again
Liked at “maybe you’re, like, backpacking through Europe.... take me with you” lol!
I love all the Erica videos! More Erica please!
😘😘😘😘
Omg I’m obsessed with this shampoo bar! I wash my hair 2-3 a week at most and omg so much volume!! Oh smells delicious and makes so much shampoo bubbles hehe in love.
I have long hair and this saves me so much money!
For people worried about getting it stuck in the tin, I've also wrapped it in either a paper lunch bag or a beeswax reusable lunch cloth, and both work pretty well but the beeswax works better.
i’ve missed erica !!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
😘😘😘
I love the idea of shampoo bars! I am currently on vacation right now and I brought New in my tin. and thank you for sharing the tip about how to dry the shampoo bars because I've been having that problem!
I had a yellow one a while back but I don’t think I came anywhere close to 80 uses- even saying 40 seems generous. Granted I had thick and long hair but I only rubbed it at my scalp. I felt that it was harsh and abrasive, but enjoy the idea of a solid bar of shampoo. In the future if there is a way to further concentrate it and make is better for hair (no sulfates, ok for colored hair etc.) I’d try it again due to the lesser environmental impact
Great video! love the shampoo bars and these tips just helped me appreciate them more!
LOVE LOVE LOVE Erica!! 🤗 more videos with her please!
😘😘😘😘
Thanks for the explanation 😊 It was really instructive and usefull. I am probably never gonna use shampoo from supermarkets again.
Thanks for watching!
Ugh so nice seeing you again Erica ❤❤
HIIII!!
LOVE the bars... I get two at a time so I can switch back and forth, and they last me a year, easily.
Thank you for the captions!!!
I bought one last month. I love it 😍
Is there any way these could be formulated without sulfates? I really want to try these, but I’m hesitant because SLS dries out my hair. Love everything at Lush, but I just can’t quite give these a go yet.
Carina Collins have you tried your local farmer's market?. Most people that make and sell soap makes shampoo bars.
It's hard to find shampoo without any sulfates. If you are looking for something gentler than SLS there are other solid shampoo brands the use naturally sourced sulfates that are less harsh.
I think New Zealand's Ethique brand which is formulated by a science major has pretty good range.
However do not buy soap vendor's shampoo bars as they are just standard cold process soap which are too basic in pH level and will damage hair and scalp making it brittle. Soap is not shampoo.
There are a lot of shampoos coming out in the US without SLS, and they are pretty accessible for the most part now. :)
But no solid ones :/
Hi Carina! We use SLS in our shampoo bars to trap dirt and oil on the scalp and hair and wash it away effectively. We'll be sure to pass your feedback along, though!
They put oils and butters in the shampoo bars to combat any dryness the sulfates might bring. And you don’t have to put the bar directly on your hair. Liquid shampoos are more concentrated and they go directly on scalp. The shampoo bars , you can work up a lather in your hands and then work that into your hair so the lather is less harmful than the actual formula.
I really want to know about conditioner pucks and solid deodorant. and that wierd toothpaste powder!
I use a square tin so mine doesn’t get stuck in even if I’m in a hurry using it at the gym and don’t get time to air it out as much as I would like to.
I would love to see one on the conditioner bars!
@Lush could you possibly make a 2-in-1 bar. Half be shampoo and the other conditioner that way when traveling its one bar we can have at all times.
Great suggestion, sweets! Have you tried out our Avocado Co-Wash? The perfect balance of cleansing and hydrating ingredients leaves hair weightlessly moisturized without stripping away natural oils.
they already have one, it's called Godiva and i love it!
Please do introduce shampoo bars which are SLS free and paraben free..
Nia Neha shampoo bars are already paraben-free
Yes shampoo bars are self-preserving, preservative free & paraben free! All of LUSH’s unpackaged solid products are paraben free
You can also use it as a soap for your body when traveling! I have done that multiple times and it works just fine (:
I love these I always use Jason and the argan oil for gym and travel. I used to use it at home too but I have long hair and it does dry it out a bit too much for frequent use...
Used Jason and argon oil shampoo bar for awhile. It might contain some moisturizing oils but it was too drying for my scalp. I've since tried Ethique, which has a really good wonder bar conditioner bar. And I'm currently using a lye based shampoo bar with ACV rinse, which great results.
Any ideas what to do with an half used lush shampoo bar, can it do anything useful like perhaps be used to hand wash clothes when traveling, or should I just toss It?
you should make a formula without sodium lauryl sulfate since it damages hair. i have seen it done so it would be nice if lush did this too
Your makeup range please! I noticed that lush Australia is discontinuing the makeup range. I personally love it and use it a lot, do tell what's the future of it!
I love your shampoo bars the convenience, the scents, and the friendliness to the economy is amazing! I just can't use them anymore because they cause dandruff for me :(
I have the seanik shampoo bar! Perfect if u wanna be a sea dragon! This is my #1 perfect everyday shampoo! I can't wait to get my Big Naked pressed conditioner and I put it in a small mesh drawstring bag to make it mess-free & make it easy to get the "liquid" out. It kinda almost looks like rice cake. I got a Golden Egg Bath Bomb for Easter this year, I like to draw a simple icon on my round tins to represents the scent and theme the shampoo bar like for example: Seanik🌊, Spicy=🔥, Floral=🌺, Sweet=🍬🍭, Cirtusy=🍊🍋,
I'm probably gonna do a drawing of my favorite wings of fire character, Princess Tsunami Of The Seawings on a lounge couch bed all naked & saying, "I rather go naked than use plastic packaging."
So I heard if you add hot water to a conditioner bar, it will become a paste like texture you can then put in a lush pot you have hanging around. Could you do the same with a shampoo bar. I ask because I love shampoo bars, but sometimes I would like a little wetter a format without going full liquid shampoo.
The best way to use our conditioner bars are to apply to damp hair after shampooing and just like you would a shampoo bar - the only difference is, it won't lather, hope this helps! - Sophie
Do these bars make your hair feel waxy like others I have tried from different companies?
I’m getting that blue one! Thanks Erica!
👍🏽🌊
is there a shampoo bar thats similar to the liquid rehab shampoo?
They’re actually so good !
What about color treated hair? Do they work without taking the color
Hi there, Ericka! If you have color-treated hair, we would recommend avoiding shampoo bars that contain more cleansing ingredients. Our Copperhead shampoo bar in particular was made with color treated hair in mind! www.lushusa.com/hair/shampoo-bars/copperhead/05565.html
I really don't know loving the product or you ,i mean you are amazing you energy is the best ❤️❤️😍😍💃💃love u 😘😘 i for sure i will try this product 🤓🌠🤗
I really want to give the shampoo bars another try, but last time I used them my hair started falling out and I ended up having to return the bar and switch back to my bottled stuff (daddy-o). Turns out it may have been the particular bar I was using, but I had the same problem with two different bars(one to a lesser effect but there was still a lot of hair fall) so I kinda got scared off using them again.
I have been using only shampoo bars for a year now and a have gone through only two and a half. I wash my hair 3 times a week
What lush shampoo bars hold up the longest? I got Jason and the argan oil and it’s not holding up well. I love the formula but it’s not holding up well. I have straight thin hair. Thankyou!!!
This made me wanna go and buy it.
Is it sulfate free?
Marta P.m Nope!
Hi Marta! At the moment, all of our shampoo bars contain small amounts of SLS to help it get that "lather"!
I love these type of videos, also great product
Erica!!!!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍 my fave
😘😘😘😘hiiieeee
I've been using Godiva for the past month or so. LOVE the Jasmin and of course no bottles!!!
Spiral Breeze hi is godiva good for dry hair?
which would you recommend ror greasy hair
Seanik is the best one in my opinion for greasy hair
Seanik or the purple one, I forgot the name haha
Jumping Juniper!
Fangirl Undercover 2 It’s jumping juniper I remember now haha, it could be that Jason and the Argon oil is good for greasy hair, I’m not sure but I’m sure it makes your hair shiny though
Dandang Zhang I wouldn’t recommend Jason and the Argan Oil.
Jason and the argon oil was my go to for ages, then karma come out.
Everytime i watch her, i wanna go to lush. xD
I'm going to try it.
Oh I love this!!!!!
Can u make one without sulfates or parabeans
Why did my Jason & the Argan Oil shampoo bar turn into FUN? It became super soft and sticky after a few washes. Kinda sad.
BEcause you didn't let it dry properly. Don't leave it in a puddle, put it on a soap tray.
Erica is my Lush queen!
😘😘😘😘
These are iconic, use them.
I love the idea of a shampoo bar but the ones I used (honey I washed the kids and coconut rice) builds up on my hair after a couple of washes and leaves a heavy, sticky residue.
When I wash my hair with a regular shampoo it goes away. I would love to use only shampoo bars but it just doesn't work for me. Am I the only one?
Hi! I would like to ask how to prevent dundruff or which shampoo bar is the best? I have my soak and float, but I feel like it is too drying and than I have jason and argan oil and that one doesn't seem to help with that as well :(
Hi Michaela, Our Lullaby shampoo bar is another lovely choice for sensitive scalps. This lovely bar contains calming oat milk which may help with adding more hydration to the hair. www.lushusa.com/hair/shampoo-bars/lullaby/05596.html 💜
I feel like they are so strong. It’s really easy to use too much and it makes my hair dry.
I love lush shampoo bars they are just awesome. But they are so expensive and not available in India.
Here's something I've had a problem with and I don't know if it's just me or if anyone else has had this issue. For the past year (ish) Retread conditioner isn't as thick as it used to be. And really, it's just too liquid to be in a tub. I think it would be better delivered in a bottle. I (for one) would waste less. Trying to pour from the tub into my hand while in the shower and without glasses on is kinda messy. Is there a way to thicken it? Or better yet, bottle it. The product is still as wonderful as it has been for the past three years that I've been using it, but like I said, for the past year it's been more liquidy.
Hi there! Our products are handmade in small batches so there can sometimes be batch variations. If you come across this again, please send an email to customercare@lush.com. Regarding the packaging, we're happy to pass your suggestion along to the appropriate team.
love the shampoo bars
Ok these shampoo bars are intriguing but how drying are these on the hair? I have very thick, coarse, wire-like hair that needs hydration like you won't believe - and just using traditional shampoo won't cut it.
Hi there, lovely! We have many different shampoo bars for many different hair types. As long as you pick one that's suited for you, it shouldn't dry out your hair! 😊
Which shampoo bars would work well with color treated hair?
Hi there, Lauren! Our Copperhead shampoo bar was made with color treated hair in mind, as it's lightly cleansing and has a dose of conditioning henna. Check it out here: www.lushusa.com/hair/shampoo-bars/copperhead/05565.html
Yay! I love Erica!
I love you too! xo
Erica Vega
Awww you replied! 😆 thank you so much! X
my hair is like yours and I'm a Curly Wurly fan. I feel like Trichomania has been a good bar but seanik is sounding interesting. Do you condition after and if so with what solid product?
Hey Sio! We'd love to help you find the perfect solid conditioner. Do you like tons of hydration, or are you looking for big volume?
You rock! Loads of hydration and taming wild locks. I usually use American Cream to condition but miss the bejeezus out of Coolaulin.
These are awesome
I just wish you used something else other than sodium lauryl sulphate (e.g. sodium coco sulphate or laureth sulphate) so people with sensitive skin could use them too
Erica, you're so cool!
Damn she could sell me anything, I was mesmerized listening to this hahaha.
Who else loves her hair❤️
Podrían hacer un doblaje al español.???
🐇super glad y'all did this video been thinking about picking one up but wasn't really sure if it would work for me. thanks cannot wait till I get one (I have super mega thick hair and its extremely long-to butt)
we love u erica
I love you boobear!
Could someone please clarify what the ingredients are in ‘crushed erbs’ please x
Not all the shampoo bars contain crushed herbs I believe, I don’t know what kind of herbs but you can see the ingredient list of the bars on their site.
Hey Connor! Each and every ingredient is listed on our website so you know what's inside. Feel free to take a peek at the products you're curious about!
Awesome
Ive bin using the sampoo bars my hole lush life !! Its bin just over a decaid . i too love that theyre getting so poplar as naked is so best !! Adore all the naked products!! Just like shampoo pucks they took a bit but they caught on !! ;)
My favs products everrrr. Montalbano!! Also sulfates legit aren't that bad for your hair and lush uses less than 10%. Most of your fav companies use sulfates but don't disclose it
pppotatoes hi is montalbano good for dry hair?
i really wish that you guys made a shampoo bar without SLS and pharabens, i have curly hair it all your shampoo bars are so drying to my hair, even the ‘godiva’, ‘honey i washed the kids’ as well as ‘jason and the argon oil’. i would love to go package free shampoo wise but it so hard when i don’t like the drying feeling, or like those ingredients in general for my hair and scalp.
Hi Kayla! I totally understand the choice to go SLS free and it is something that has definitely been brought to our attention. We would be more than happy to pass this feedback along to our teams as we move forward with product innovation, and hopefully, we can see some new change in the future. 💕
that would be so great! I understand that creating a sly version wuldn come with its challenges. id happily buy a version with no sls , and i know of so many others, especally curly girls, that would aswell. same idea with the conditioners, i love to co wash you guys have for curly hair but would love to see a conditioner with a thicker consistencey and sls free. id love to get all my curly hair products from you guys in the future!
Please do dragons blood and argon oil mix👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Most people that make soap and sell on ettsy and or farmer's markets make shampoo bars. My friend makes her's with olive oil, coconut oil and palm oil. Natural mint and rosemary. That's it! None of the bad stuff at all
Those aren't shampoo bars but soap bars. Their high basic pH level isn't good for hair. A shampoo should contain surfactants. It's much easier and especially cheaper to make soap bars and call it shampoo which is dishonest and misleading. Saying it doesn't include bad stuff because they cheap out and sell cold process soap by calling it shampoo is greedy and just as bad as chemical laden supermarket shampoo.
Palm oil actually is bad stuff. It is natural sure but very bad for the environment. They need to destroy rain forest to farm it.
I actually used one of these when I had my dreadlocks. I can't remember the name now, but it did a fantastic job of cleaning my hair without gunking it up, and then I used R&B on my scalp/roots. I do wish there were no sulfates used, but at the same time I get such fantastic results for my thirsty AF skim and hair from LUSH products I'm really not keen on using other brands. Nothing quite matches the fact that I don't get ashy for days after using their stuff, and since I need help with showering/lotioning it's fantastic.
I want to know the history of the bathbomb and the bubblebar
