It would be interesting to see Madison's take on some of these shampoos/conditioners. Since she has natural hair and a completely different texture than yours. I'd love to see it 😁🤞🏾
@@alyssacasole5441 My curls (though not POC curls) love Ethique's Guardian conditioner bar. They have come out with an even more moisturizing bar I haven't had a chance to try yet but will be giving it a shot when time comes to re-order. So far I have tried Bar None (decent), Habitat Botanicals(horrible!), and Ethique (the best so far!) and have been really impressed with both Ethique's shampoo and conditioner bars.
I wrote to Spring and Vine yesterday about the plastic in their packaging. They say it’s needed to keep the bar “fresh” but that they’re looking for alternatives.
When I wrote to them they just sent back a generic response as if they hadn’t even read it. Seems like they’re starting to pay more attention if they gave you an actual response. Maybe enough people are holding them accountable that they’ll actually do something to change.

@@sonyamorud6241 Right?! CGM is actually really bad for the planet due to the amount of unnecessary water and conditioner they say to use and the shear number of products, and it's bad for your scalp health.
Scent that doesn't linger on my hair (or preferably, no scent at all) is a good thing for me. Scent doesn't bother me, but I have a friend who's extremely allergic and I like being able to hug her without making her face numb.
I treated mine with coconut oil. I left it in a few hours before showering. That helped a lot. I do use a conditioner bar but after a few months my hair was feeling quite dry anyway. Maybe coconut oil will help you too.
I personally love the hi bar moisturizing conditioner :-) I use it as a leave in and it’s perfect, my hair lasts about 4 days before I feel the need to wasg
My hair is super oily I used to wash it every two days now I wash it once a week and it still gets oily but not as quickly or as much. I use corn starch at dry shampoo and it works better than anything I’ve ever used. I used to go through a can of dry shampoo a week now I buy a 99 cent box of corn starch and it lasts my about 6 months. Cheaper and a lot more eco friendly lol
I would like to point out water hardness plays a part in performance. I've tried so many bars that work great in my home town - an hour way - with medium hardness. But they were awful in my city with hard water. I started using viori about 2 or 3 months ago and LOVE it (for context, I have mixed Asian and Latina hair, pretty thick, very straight) Idk how I missed that it's made made with sls, though. I'll definitely see if I can get my husband on board with the Rhyme and Reason. Thank you!
To preface, I've only just started using shampoo/conditioner bars and chose Viori's after looking up a bunch of different brands. I was a little underwhelmed with the Viori review, though I am glad she emphasized the ethical/sustainability points. I also do not see SLS in Viori's ingredients list online. The only thing I can think of why she listed it as containing SLS is because of Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate which when you look at the chemical structure does share the same sulfonic end, but is otherwise different than SLS. I haven't run into anything which specifically talks about the pros/cons of SCI; the only thing I've seen is that it may be better for certain people with sensitive skin? Either way, I don't think it's fair to review Viori as containing SLS without some sort of explanation since it's not specifically listed in their ingredients list and I haven't seen anything, or its not obvious, to equate SLS with SCI. Palm oil is also not in their ingredients list. They do list Rice Bran Oil, Broccoli Seed Oil, and Jojoba Oil. No clue if any of these come from or are classified as a palm oil, but I feel like these points would have been a pretty easy thing to email the company about to make the review clearer. With regard to the scent, Viori has 4 different scents with different patterns on them. If the pattern of the bars is consistent with what she showed in the video, she has one of the unscented bars, so no surprise there is no scent. I have tried both Citrus Yao and the Hidden Waterfall and have loved them both. With regard to lather, mine lathers really well, so I think you are right @incaamor that water hardness may affect its lathering performance.
Oh man thank you so much for covering Viori. I keep getting ads for them, but couldn't really find anything concrete on their site regarding their sustainability. It definitely makes me feel better about the brand hearing what you have to say about it.
I use Viori and love it! I have thick wavy hair and most shampoo and conditioner bars I’ve tried just didn’t work for my hair type, made my hair feel super dry whereas Viori leaves my hair smooth. I agree with Shelby when using the shampoo bar by itself it does not provide much lather, but I found that if I use a shampoo brush, it lathers more. I definitely recommend trying it if you’re looking for a shampoo/conditioner bar. :)
I wash shocked how much it lathered. I was also shocked how Shelbi seemed to minimize the ethics/mission of the company. I can’t believe she didn’t use the conditioner bar! It works so well!! I started using it because I heard it was helpful for people with hair loss which I was experiencing. Bonus for sustainability. My mom is a hairdresser so I have expectations for shampoo and conditioner and theses WORK. She must not have gotten the citrus scent, which is AMAZING. Makes my bathroom smell great but the smell doesn’t stick to my hair! 100% recommend!
I've been using viori for around 6 months now and my hair is honestly the healthiest it's ever been, probably from the rice they use as the base ingredient. I love the ethics of the company too and the thought they put into all of their products. They have 4 different base scents (I think the one Shelbi used was the native essence unscented one) and if you are a scent person like me the hidden waterfall scent is like therapy in a bar, it's so calming and lovely. not a huge fan of their conditioner bars as they break me out, but I've found that just the shampoo bar works fine for me (and my hair has never been this soft in my life lol)
The refillable shampoos and conditioners are a smart concept. Hopefully there will be more companies jumping on this band wagon. I’m trying to find a bar shampoo for sensitive scalp. Any suggestions? Great videos!!
Ethique (which Shelbi reviewed in her first video of this series) has a shampoo bar for dandruff/itchy scalp and a "gentle" bar intended for small children - one of those might work for you! They also offer mini bars for about $5 if you wanted to try one or both without a major commitment.
I use spring and vine’s sensitive scalp bar and I really love it. It’s doesn’t strip my hair/dry it out (though I do have pretty oily hair) and it cleared up my mild dandruff
I recently purchased the Viori shampoo and conditioner bars and have been liking them so far. This is the first time I've used shampoo/conditioner bars so I don't have others to compare to. I also tried the Susteau Moondust shampoo powder. I like that one but it can be a little tricky to get the correct water to powder ratio that I like.
Last time you did this, I also did some price comparisons and plaine ended up being the lowest, so I bought it and I don't think I'll ever change either, the one bottle has lasted me forever! but if price is also something people are looking at I'd go with plaine, though I'm not sure how it stacks up against these other ones prices
@@AMVloverbri it's lasted a super long time! Im still on my first bottle and got it the beginning of the pandemic so at least a year probably more. I'm the only one who uses the bottle though and I only wash my hair 1-2 times a week.
Thank you! I've been using Viori shampoo and conditioner for five months now and it's become my ride or die, I love it so much. I love the mission and community work that the brand does. As well as this was the first s/c bars that actually worked for me. I really love the ingredients and have improved the health of my hair. One correction I would like to say is that while the bar does contain gentle sulfates, they do not contain SLS. The rice water and protein have really improved my hair strength and color, while the aloe, cocoa and shea butter keeps it moisturized. Of course what worked for me won't work for everyone but this one is a good one to try plus it's really long lasting. I've had the same bar for five months and it's only about half way gone and I wash my hair either every other day to every three days. Good money saver.
I'm excited! I use the Peach bars & they work for me so I'm interested in other options 💕 I'm also happy that they listened to their customers & changed the shapes between shampoo/conditioner - they used to both be triangles! I used to love scented shower items, but my skin has gotten more sensitive as I've gotten older & I don't spend as much time in the shower itself.
@@renehoffman4343 it's a 3oz bar! I have pretty long hair & I bought it toward the end of June & the conditioner is just now getting where it's breaking down. I wash my hair 2-3 times a week and switch out my shampoo for a scalp treatment so it lasted longer than I think it would have normally. I started shampooing my roots only and conditioning my ends only so that helps it last longer too!
@SarahJo cool thanks! I am looking for a more affordable alternative to Ethique bars. While I really enjoy them and the company they are pricey. I would like to switch between them and a slightly cheaper but good quality bar and company from time to time.
Thank you for including if there is SLS included or not, I am allergic to it. I don't have too many issues finding products anymore, but even 2 years ago it was a lot harder to find stuff without SLS!
I was soo excited to see chagrin valley on your list! I personally have used them for years (I have Afro textured hair and use their butter bar) but I can see why it probably made your hair heavy. Also neem just smells like burning tires in general so I understand the disgust there 😂 they have a place in my heart because they were one of my first eco swaps and I stray here and there from time to time but always end up back as a customer
I feel you-they are my go to! I definitely prefer one shampoo bar of theirs over the others so I think for them you just have to try out a few to see what works.
@@selamhazel4708 I’ve never used an ACV rinse out of sheer laziness plus I have a filter on my shower head which I think let’s me get away with that. The Ayurvedic bar they have is too drying for my hair in all honesty. The only other bar I like besides the butter bar is the olive Babassu, but the butter bar is still better
@@selamhazel4708 Once a month you can buy a bag of scraps for cheap. Either shampoo or body bars. That way you can discover which bar you prefer. I love their concentrated ACV rinse with herbs. A little goes a long way. Smells amazing. Lolll 4b or some shit. That’s how I feel about hair typing. It’s good for reference I guess.
I recently started using the unscented Viori shampoo and conditioner bar and I really like them! They don't later super well but I only wash my hair twice a week and it never gets greasy. Also I'm pretty sure they are SLS free 🤔 at least the unscented one is
My unscented Viori bars lather well, but it's tough to get rid of significant build up and the conditioner bar on it's own doesn't compensate enough for how much the shampoo dries my hair out
Love your videos. You alone have convinced my husband and I to get serious about sustainability and you’re my go to when trying to find better sustainable brands. I do want to point out though that you said none of the brands but one were 1% for the planet but rhyme and reason actually are too. Just a heads up.
Hey Shelbi! Thank you so much for the video. It is so nice to have a thorough review of different shampoos! To answer your question, I personally cannot stand my products being scented. My sensitivity has gotten better, but I would prefer if the scent faded away and doesn’t linger. Which is why, anytime a brand provides an unscented version, I’ll always pick that.
I use the viori shampoo and conditioner bars. I love the mission, and I personally find it works wonderfully for my hair. I have fine thin wavy hair and it’s hard to find something that cleans the oiliness that always comes with fine thin hair but doesn’t strip my hair and make it frizzy by being too harsh. There are different scents that people can choose from and some are better for oily hair and some are for more normal hair. So I personally think people should give it a try if they are looking for a shampoo bar.
Love this! I'm excited to try the Plaine shampoo because I have their lotion in rosemary mint vanilla and it smells so good! Something I'd be interested in learning more about is what all these certifications of brands and products mean, e.g., OKEO-tex, B corp certification, fair trade, etc. You seem well-versed on these labels since you reference them throughout videos, and I would love to see a video about what exactly all these labels mean, how they are DIFFERENT from others, and other labels that really do not mean too much. I had to purchase a new mattress size, so this week I was investigating mattresses, sheets, comforters, etc. and it took a lot of digging to figure out which companies' products were more sustainable and ethical by googling the differences between their certifications. I think having some reference guide on the major eco/health-friendly labels would be super helpful for situations where consumers need to buy a new product and really analyze what the company is saying it is doing for the planet!
I’m torn on smells, some are ok and others give me a migraine. But I don’t think so many products need fragrance. Thanks for reviewing these! I think I’m going to try plaine when I next need shampoo and conditioner
Please try the Aveda shampoo bar! They're a Salon brand and I think that would be a good option for people who dye/color their hair who are more skeptical of moving away from a big salon brand to some less well-known brands.
@@rachelhoward6487 what a bummer! I saw some still sold in the UK, but nothing here like you said. Hopefully Aveda will keep it as a staple from now on. I will email them!
I bought one and like it a lot because I LOVE that strong salon scent. It’s very drying though. Not sure if SLS is the reason but I’ve been using it with AVEDA beautifying oil as an after application to combat it. Super sad to hear it’s limited edition!
I'm currently using Chagrin Valley shampoo bars because I bought a bunch of little sample bars to try the different formulas and they are just lasting forever 😅 I hated them at first, but I tried doing an apple cider vinegar rinse (they have a dilution recipe on their site) and it helps SIGNIFICANTLY with heavy/waxy feeling. From what I could understand from internet research, Chagrin Valley is a "soap" (vs a "detergent") shampoo so something abt the pH of the bar and the pH of your scalp makes it stick to your hair, so you have to use ACV (or any low-pH vinegar I guess?) to balance it. With the ACV rinse I can go 3 or sometimes 4 days without washing my hair, and it's pretty soft! Just thought I'd put it out there for anyone who is struggling to use up Chagrin's very generously sized bars lol!
For me personally, scents can very easily make my head hurt and increase my dizziness. Some smells aren’t too bad, but I normally err on the side of caution and get fragrance free or unscented. If I want my hair to smell like something, I add a moisturizing carrier oil with a few drops of an essential oil I like to my hair.
Viori - I used viori quite often. I find it lathers like crazy. But, I do wash twice since I only wash my hair once a week the second wash. Wow! The lather is crazy. I also use the conditioner. So smooth. I used the chagrin valley herb garden to help my hair stop falling out after covid. It worked. It is a heavier shampoo that has to be rinsed really well. Thank you for the reviews.
I use the Ethique Pink Shampoo bar which I will probably always use as the lather is great and it's color safe (which I know most bars aren't since coloring your hair isn't eco-friendly) and I recently was looking for a new conditioner because I really didn't like the Ethique one. I found Rhyme and Reason had a color safe conditioner and I like it other than it smells like playdough. It works nice otherwise and I was excited to see that they were listed here. I love that they use an all recycled bottle. Also, The Body Shop recently started doing a refill system similar to plaine. They only do it at certain locations right now but it's great to see more companies turning to that. Thank you for this review Shelbi!
I am also a Plaine Products woman through and through. I absolutely looooooove all their products. They check all the boxes--cruelty-free, palm oil free, women owned etc. I will support them forever!!
I was surprised by the Spring & Vine coming in plastic but I really wanted an unscented bar and this was the most affordable option. The drying action is exactly what I needed for my hair.
Rhyme and Reason is accessible in my low income neighborhood at Target and I don't have to travel too far for it. Which I think is great! The only problem is that a lot of people that are low-income don't buy sustainable products and because of the less demand, there are less zero waste items in stores. I sometimes feel like I am the only one buying and supporting.
I definitely prefer no smell to stay in my hair. No smell during the shower would be good too! I've been using Spring and Vine for a bit and I agree it is so drying.
I've been using Viori for a few months now and it's been my favorite shampoo of all time. It cleanses my oily scalp well and it doesn't feel dry and their condition detangles my thick hair(though I do have straight hair). I put my dry shampoo on in the night before my shower day so I can have fresh hair until I wash my hair that same day. It's a routine that works for me. The have sales a good amount of time and they sometimes have a BOGO sale.
Viori is the ONLY shampoo bar that has worked for me. I love it. I have fine very oily hair and had a hard time finding a sustainable shampoo that worked for me. If anyone has a similar problem I would definitely give them a go!
I just bought a new brand of shampoo bars two days ago 😭😭 I tend to prefer mildly scented or unscented body products, the lilac and white tea Native deodorant is the exact level of scent I prefer in products.
I’ve always had very frizzy, thick hair and bought viori after noticing some hair loss. Never in my life have I been able to dry brush my hair without straightening first because it would just make my hair frizzier. However, after using viori for a few months I’ve finally been able to dry brush my hair to my surprise. My hair is much softer and I think healthier and after brushing it looks smooth and, well, brushed. Not like a poofy frizzy mess.
When you showed the Chagrin packaging and it listed Neem in big letters I knew it was going to be smelly and I was not surprised that it made your hair oily. I use Neem as an organic pesticide on my plants and it makes my grow room smell so bad. When you use it as a pesticide it leaves a sticky oily film which is what you want for repelling insects, but you definitely wouldn't want it on anything you were going to pick and eat raw without a thorough wash. I'd be curious if that shampoo would help keep the bugs away on a camping trip though! 😂
Tip: Cut down your bar and only wet the part you use in your shower and keep the other parts dry and safe in your cupboard. This way, not the whole soap gets wet every time and you can keep it for years if you would like to. It is especially important because I have a bar that I used for almost a year.
I like my habitat shampoo bar…I have dry, curly hair (2C/3A) that is also grey & colour treated. I switch up my shampoo each time I wash (every 4 or 5 days). I like this one better than my purple ethique bar:). I’m not a scent person…I like it to smell nice (or not at all) while I’m using it but not to linger.
Viori is definitively helping me regrow hair that I lost after COVID, and eyebrows that have been sadly too thin since being over-tweezed many years ago. I use it once a week, since it is a treatment shampoo, but will never go without now!
I absolutely love lushes shampoo bar I will say though the smell is extremely strong but Like that and its very drying but I can literally go a week without it getting too oily and I have curly hair which I also put product in so that says a lot
Honestly it was SO HARD for me to find out the right shampoo for me and I agree with Shelby, once I found it I can't go back but I really wanna see what's in this video 👌🏻 - for the record mine is from the brand Respire, it's a French one (bc I'm French eh it's local for me but not necessarily for you) and it's 🔥🔥🔥🔥 : organic, solid (only packed in a cardboard box), smells good (no fragrance I think but it smells like almond bc there's almond in it yk), makes my hair feel awesome even with both my super sensitive scalp and curly/wavy hair, I would love to see you test it!
I would love to see a review on the shampoo and conditioner bars from Royalty Soaps. I love watching Katie make her themed soaps on her channel but her shampoo bars are slept on. They're cruelty free, sls free, and wrapped in biodegradable/compostable packaging. I got a shampoo bar for travel and they last quite awhile, the scents are not overwhelming (there's a fragrance-free option) and they lather pretty well. Recommend for curly girls!
I'd love to see more lower-waste options that are free of silicones (including dimethicone, etc.) & sulfates/that are suitable for the curly girl method available! As well as reviewed by you and/or Madison, if ya find more that fall into that category :) For those of use with curls or coils/coarser hair textures, it is a STRUGGLE to find products that are packaged in more environmentally-responsible ways that actually keep our hair from breaking, since there are already relatively few products made for our hair types on the market. Narrowing that further to products with effective & safer ingredients is a much smaller list, and I'm only aware of about 5 products intended for curly and/or coily hair that are packaged in plastic-free ways. I know that it's largely a matter of funding, since the majority of brands that make products that are effective for my hair are very small businesses, but I hope that these companies start to get more support from investors and consumers so it's possible for them to use less/no plastic in the near future. It's been really exciting to see a lot of those companies taking steps in that direction over the last few years :)
You can purchase products from Grove without the subscription! You'll just need to pay for shipping or I believe they waive the shipping fee if you purchase over a certain amount of goods 😊
I like to have lingering smell in my hair. I am SO sensitive to my own body odors, and super paranoid. I wanna smell good all the time. However...I've been learning about how bad fragrances are for our skin. Even natural fragrances, like essential oils. I'm currently using Viori's unscented bar shampoo and it works really well, but I miss the yummy smells 😭 I'm torn here.
I’ve recently read that vegetarians tend to smell better, and I’ve noticed that! Not to push the vegetarian agenda on you, but I used to be the same way before I switched
What is your hair type (oily, dry, fine, thick?) If you continue this series, can you collab with people with different hair types so we can get a full spectrum on how this works for people of all hair types?
I like the naturetint shampoo bar. I was really impressed. Good leather, great conditioned feel, easy to comb through. Amazing really. And just a bit of cardboard packaging.
Oh my gosh, I feel so vindicated!!!!! Chagrin valley was the very first shampoo bar I tried, years ago, and I ended up blaming myself and the mineral content of my local water for the poor performance. I’m glad I’m not the only one. I may try the bar you recommended-after a cross country move I’ve been struggling to get back into more sustainable habits.
It’s a saponified shampoo bar. Basically oil and lye mixed to make glycerin and soap. A lot of people don’t get on with those. The pH is high that’s what they suggest ACV rinses. A lot of bars now are formulated differently. Call SYNDET bars. Made with mild very surfactants (unless your LUSH )and other ingredients.
Just discovered your videos. Really impressed by the detail, accuracy and your attitude. Very non-judgemental. I'm encouraged to do more..... You mentioned lather, and how it doesn't mean that it is cleaning better... this is actually inaccurate, I believe. Lather/bubbles suspend dirt and grease and are very important in cleaning.
As a brunette, I love Chagrin Valley’s café moreno bar. It really does bring out the different hues of brown in my hair and makes it look so pretty. It is drying though, so I have to use a ton of conditioner afterwards (which I use conditioner bar from another brand of course).
I thought I was the type of person that LOVED having scented shower products, but I've been using unscented bar soap for the last couple months and I don't miss my super scented Bath & Body Works shower gel AT ALL! So glad I made the swap! This is really specific, but does anyone have any recommendations for a bar soap that's unscented, cruelty free, isn't drying, and doesn't break the bank?
Personally, I love my Viori. Mine is definitely scented, and leaves a faint, but very pleasant scent throughout the day. I'm sensitive to strong scents, and it does not bother me. It also leaves my dry, 2A hair full of volume, really enhances my natural texture and waves, and leaves my hair moisturized. I definitely need the conditioner bar though - - idk how Shelbi uses no conditioner 😅 (Edited for typos)
If you do another one, A Simple Planet would be good to review. They have a closed loop system, they send you refill pouches that you send back after you fill your bottle and they sanitize and reuse the pouches.
I have a weird request, but do you have any tips for people who are crafters/sewers? I try to use thrifted fabric, but if you know any swaps for like hot glues, threads, and other common craft items that would be awesome!
I really appreciate all the time you put into trying these products. Rhyme and reason sounds like a great option for my kids because I don't trust them (yet) to properly use a shampoo bar.
I tried Acure and… no 👎🏽 super dry, heavy… no I am currently using Spring & Vine and is ok, but I am not completely happy. Now I am curious about that Peach Shampoo 🧐 Thanks for doing this, it is super helpful!
Definitely do not recommend. For beauty products, it's better to just find a medium to large business that fits your needs. With these homemade or small businesses, they aren't likely to have access to the high quality, tested safe ingredients you find in more established brands. You're more likely to have irritation issues or formula inconsistencies.
i use lush's solid shampoos (i've tried a bunch of them) and conditioners (i've only used american cream). they work really well on my hair, can be easily taken with me when i travel, and woww they last ages compared to liquid shampoo
I've been making shampoo out of water baking soda and lime juice. What i do i deep condition with a homemade hair mask of avacado honey and castor oil leave that in for 10 min then wash my hair with the baking soda but its good to have a store bought on hand if i dont have time.
I have to say I am one of those people who LOVES scent- it really is a part of the experience for me. I’m struggling with natural laundry detergent because I love the strong scent of tide 😢
I totally get that! I used a natural laundry detergent and was determined to use it all and our clothes smelled horrible!! So I totally had to return to Tide to get our clothes smelling better. I do use the powder in the cardboard box! I wish I could try sample sizes of natural detergent though .. that would be great!
It might be more sustainable to buy a natural detergent and then use one of those “scent boosters.” I’m not sure if tide has one but I know several other brands do. You might also try to get scent in the dryer by adding essential oils to dryer balls or using dryer sheets. These aren’t the most sustainable thing but it might be more sustainable than tide. I personally fell in love with my clothes being unscented and my skin stopped breaking out. I use dropps and I’ve never had a problem with them making my clothes smell bad including workout clothes. They have a scented version but I can’t recommend it because I’ve never tried it.
I have to agree with you on the Chagrin Valley shampoo bar. I think living in the Midwest, we tend to have harder water which doesn’t mix well with soap based shampoo bars. You can get some build up with a traditional soap and they’re usually extra moisturizing with all the oils from the saponification process. I’m sure a lot of people are familiar with soap scum, which is a chemical reaction between the soap and the minerals in hard water. I’d be curious to see what people thought who lived with soft water and used it.
I currently use the Plaine shampoo too and like it. I’ve tried a couple of the Chagrin Valley shampoo bars and they worked but aren’t my favorite. I do love their soaps though! They are very nice!
I really like scents so the honey Lush shampoo bar works best. I also have really thick hair so a soft scent and clean feeling is nice! Love this video Shelbi
I have used Chagrin Valley shampoo bars and I agree with you! But their body bug repellent is really good! We have tons of mosquitos and love outdoor concerts and it works so good!
I've tried a lush shampoo bar which lasted a long time and worked for my hair. I've tried ethniques shampoo bars which did not last as long as a lush shampoo bar and felt it took a lot more product to get a good wash. I've tried both those brands in conditioner and neither of them worked at all for me that I could tell. Ethnique is out for me in shampoo and conditioner. I would repurchase a lush shampoo bar but not the conditioner. Right now I'm using leftovers from family who didn't like the shampoo or conditioner they had so I am looking for something better for my next purchase. I have oily hair and dry scalp. I find that difficult to find something that works well because of that. And also that fits in my price range.
I have a similar oily hair dry scalp issue! I originally tried ethiques sensitive scalp shampoo too and it just didn’t cut it. Now I use HiBars “sooth” shampoo, and it seems to be working pretty well!!
Did you know that Fillaree has shampoo and conditioner? They refill so it’s also circular. I have their products. It’s too moisturizing for my hair but may work for you or others
I'm obsessed with Ethique. I love everything I have tried from them. Their Shampoo and conditioner work great! I think you had the Heali Kiwi one in your last video. I love the Wombar/Kookaburo (bindhi irwin collab)
Hi! I use Camamu made in Oregon shampoo bar! They have a whole line of products. They use wax paper, tin, and glass packaging. I keep going back to their products. Small business so not a lot of certifications, but a very clean brand. Hope you get to try it someday
It would be interesting to see Madison's take on some of these shampoos/conditioners. Since she has natural hair and a completely different texture than yours. I'd love to see it 😁🤞🏾

I would love this!
Scent that doesn't linger on my hair (or preferably, no scent at all) is a good thing for me. Scent doesn't bother me, but I have a friend who's extremely allergic and I like being able to hug her without making her face numb.
I want to see reviews of bar conditioners. Finding a good "zero waste" conditioner is WAY harder than finding a shampoo.
Totally agree! I would like a leave-in conditioner, and I'm really struggling to find a solution.
@@kasenalane1723 How do you use it as a leave in? HiBar is my mom's favorite shampoo bar, so she might have some for me to try.
I highly recommend HiBAR!!
Thank you!
I've been planning to try viori and I just looked at their ingredient lists for all their products online and SLS is not on any of them
Hmm but she used them all in her own shower. Good point though, I've seen this discussed before @Dr Dray.
I have hard water issue too. I'll try viori
I also like viori. I think it has made my hair feel softer and I like their mission. It also lasts forever!
Hibar has a fragrance free version which is nice and soothing for the scalp.
@@Merrymouseis13
Thx girl! I’ll check them out
Ethique (which Shelbi reviewed in her first video of this series) has a shampoo bar for dandruff/itchy scalp and a "gentle" bar intended for small children - one of those might work for you! They also offer mini bars for about $5 if you wanted to try one or both without a major commitment.
@@anonymous-dirigible
Thx I’ll check it out.
I use spring and vine’s sensitive scalp bar and I really love it. It’s doesn’t strip my hair/dry it out (though I do have pretty oily hair) and it cleared up my mild dandruff
omg Viori's shampoo bar is so pretty, it looks like a moon cake
I recently purchased the Viori shampoo and conditioner bars and have been liking them so far. This is the first time I've used shampoo/conditioner bars so I don't have others to compare to.
I also tried the Susteau Moondust shampoo powder. I like that one but it can be a little tricky to get the correct water to powder ratio that I like.
We are SO grateful for your love, Shelbi! Thank you for being part of our community and for EVERYTHING you do for the planet 🌎💙
Thanks for posting this. Cost is an issue for me, and I would love more reviewers to include price as part of the assessment.
How long does the bottle last for you?
@@AMVloverbri it's lasted a super long time! Im still on my first bottle and got it the beginning of the pandemic so at least a year probably more. I'm the only one who uses the bottle though and I only wash my hair 1-2 times a week.
There was actually shampoo bars at my grocery store. It's a grocery store chain not a health food store. This is a great time for shampoo bars.
How many Oz come in each Peach bar? Interested in trying these bars out.
Oooh yes I'll have to try, I think I'm 4B or some shit lol. Have you tried their ayurvedic flavor and did youhave to use an ACV rinse after?
I love this, I have psoriasis and I’ve been looking for one that’s also hypoallergenic and feels moisturizing (so not just bars)
I LOOOOOVE Viori, the scents are amazing and it has been working great for my hair. Truly 100% recommended
I think I’m going to try plaine when I next need shampoo and conditioner
oh my god I JUST checked yesterday to see if you had uploaded a new shampoo review vid….. my prayers were answered 😭😭😭
Please try the Aveda shampoo bar! They're a Salon brand and I think that would be a good option for people who dye/color their hair who are more skeptical of moving away from a big salon brand to some less well-known brands.
I love those. THey smell great!
The Aveda shampoo bar isn't sold anymore. It was a limited time thing that they just did for earth day.
@@rachelhoward6487 what a bummer! I saw some still sold in the UK, but nothing here like you said. Hopefully Aveda will keep it as a staple from now on. I will email them!
Ethique has purple shampoo and conditioner. You can get it in the US.
A conditioner one would be awesome, too. I live my shampoo but I have a heck of a time with conditioners.
Also, I hated soap and salve too which was a bummer
I loved the Peach ones, too. I have the green ones, and they’re up there as some of the best I’ve ever tried, if not the best.
How many Oz. come in each Peach bar? Interested in these bars.
Tip: Cut down your bar and only wet the part you use in your shower and keep the other parts dry and safe in your cupboard. This way, not the whole soap gets wet every time and you can keep it for years if you would like to. It is especially important because I have a bar that I used for almost a year.
This is what I do too.
Great tip! Thank you!
THANK YOU. Just thank you.
Honestly it was SO HARD for me to find out the right shampoo for me and I agree with Shelby, once I found it I can't go back but I really wanna see what's in this video 👌🏻
- for the record mine is from the brand Respire, it's a French one (bc I'm French eh it's local for me but not necessarily for you) and it's 🔥🔥🔥🔥 : organic, solid (only packed in a cardboard box), smells good (no fragrance I think but it smells like almond bc there's almond in it yk), makes my hair feel awesome even with both my super sensitive scalp and curly/wavy hair, I would love to see you test it!
Love her shampoo bars! More people need to learn about her bars!
Is there a way to buy peach shampoo bars without having to sign up for Grove's subscription service?
There are some on eBay, but you might pay more than on Grove. It’s a good way to try them out though.
You can purchase products from Grove without the subscription! You'll just need to pay for shipping or I believe they waive the shipping fee if you purchase over a certain amount of goods 😊
Once I finish with my current shampoo and conditioner I will be trying grove peach!
I started using Ethique after your first video and really like it - might try one of these next
As usual, great video! I still haven't found a shampoo bar that works for me. Thank you for doing all this research for us 🌷
I like to have lingering smell in my hair.
What is your hair type (oily, dry, fine, thick?)
If you continue this series, can you collab with people with different hair types so we can get a full spectrum on how this works for people of all hair types?
Just reordered Plaine products! First low waste shampoo I haven't hated after a couple weeks.
I can't believe that there is so many options that theres a part 2! and still more to be tried. Could you test out The Earthling Co next?
I like when my hair smells good all day and I catch a whiff of it throughout the day😊😊 thanks for your reviews!
I like the naturetint shampoo bar. I was really impressed. Good leather, great conditioned feel, easy to comb through. Amazing really. And just a bit of cardboard packaging.
I will use a scentless soap usually, but on off days, I will grab my scented soaps.
I use Ethique and they are amazing, I swear by them!
Your hair looks suitably beautiful for a shampoo video!
Just started the video, but wanted to say I love my hibar shampoo and conditioner! I only like the moisturizer ones though:) highly recommend!

Please try the Mad Optimist’s shampoo bar and the Trader Joe’s one 🙏🏼
Personally, I love my Viori. Mine is definitely scented, and leaves a faint, but very pleasant scent throughout the day. I'm sensitive to strong scents, and it does not bother me. It also leaves my dry, 2A hair full of volume, really enhances my natural texture and waves, and leaves my hair moisturized. I definitely need the conditioner bar though - - idk how Shelbi uses no conditioner 😅
(Edited for typos)
If you do another one, A Simple Planet would be good to review. They have a closed loop system, they send you refill pouches that you send back after you fill your bottle and they sanitize and reuse the pouches.
I went through this shampoo journey and fell in love with the results with Filaree, based in Durham.
I have a weird request, but do you have any tips for people who are crafters/sewers? I try to use thrifted fabric, but if you know any swaps for like hot glues, threads, and other common craft items that would be awesome!
Definitely trying the peach shampoo bar!
I really appreciate all the time you put into trying these products. Rhyme and reason sounds like a great option for my kids because I don't trust them (yet) to properly use a shampoo bar.
I tried Acure and… no 👎🏽 super dry, heavy… no
I am currently using Spring & Vine and is ok, but I am not completely happy.
Now I am curious about that Peach Shampoo 🧐
Thanks for doing this, it is super helpful!
Viori lather is really good if you double shampoo. The first shampoo is not very foamy but if you shampoo twice it lathers super well🤘
Have your thoughts changed on ethique shampoo bars? I have been using them since using your last shampoo trial!
Thank you so much for doing this!!! I’m trying to make more sustainable choices for my family!
I will check out Rhyme and Reason. I also noticed that NATIVE has shampoos at Target so I want to check those out as well.
Have you tried shampoo bars from Etsy or small businesses yet? If not, I think that would make a great video.
For those of US in the UK, Faith in Nature is an easily accessible refill option.
i use lush's solid shampoos (i've tried a bunch of them) and conditioners (i've only used american cream). they work really well on my hair, can be easily taken with me when i travel, and woww they last ages compared to liquid shampoo
I also use my shampoo bar as soap when I’m traveling. Why travel with more when it does the job? :D
Hi,. I'm mixed, is there one Madison uses? Or do know any for a good wash and go for curly hair with dry scalp
I have curly hair and not found a shampoo bar that works yet but luckily I live right next to a zero ware store with refill shampoo.
@@evahanson5424 Thanks! I'm going to look into that!
I’ve been really curious about the Davines and the Klorane shampoo bars if you do another batch! :)
I ordered Plaine when I was in Miami a while back, but I live in London, UK, so upset I cannot get it here...!
