Sorry but I'm trying this....did you connect the positive wire to one battery and the negative wire to another battery?? I'm doing this while I type....
The screen I was going to use for my basket was rusty. So I had to buy some new screen to make a basket for the old screen material and de-rust it first. Not sure how much I saved using the old screen once de-rusted as I'm still working on the cost formula. Bad-ass amount I'm sure.
Haha, Washing soda is very dangerous so use goggles and gloves. Priceless. I also love your "baking" process. I am surprised it worked with the wire screen. I always give my parts a direct line of sight path to the "anodes". The part being de-rusted is technically the cathode in the circuit. You always throw curveballs. So funny. BTW: I use an ultrasonic cleaner with vinegar to remove rust, it works about the same but is way cooler!
I used this technique on my wife's rusty wedding ring, it worked a treat, only thing is that her finger nail dropped off after holding her finger in the solution for to long.
Psst. Here is a little secret that doctors don't want you to know: you can get industry strength diamond paper by cutting out matchbox striking surfaces.
Sweet basket! However I've just used the assembly wire to tie all the parts together. If the parts have holes in them, you can hang them on the assembly wire.
You only need one stainless steel bowl full with water and electrolyte. Hook up the negative to the metal bowl then throw them nuts and bolts in there then suspend your sacrificial in there with a piece of wood or plastic but making sure it doesn't touch the sides or any of the parts. Hook up positive to your suspended sacrificial and good to go
I work in electro plating company in Japan ,sadly I don't understand Japanese .My question is after we do eletroplating of small parts it should be meausure with a small device which shows the value in ohms why is it's for?
I can’t find a plain steel mesh to make the basket, everything is stainless steel or aluminum which I believe you aren’t supposed to use. Where can I find some?
You don't need a 9v battery, you can do it with two AAs wired in parallel as long as the electrolyte solution is above 40C and the surface area of the cathodes is greater than 40% of the surface area of the parts to be cleaned...
I have a friend building a rat rod and he wants the rust on his car,can the rust you have be collected to spread on it or perhaps reverse the process to make solid straight panels look old and rusty? I know the obvious thing to do is to paint the car but they seem to like them very rusty. I did offer to swap his exhaust with mine from my gs500- that has lots of real rust!
spray muratic acid all over the car then wipe with gloves on of course and then rinse. Let dry then spray hydrogen peroxide, then let dry repeat hydrogen peroxide as many times to achieve level of rust. After all is done rinse one more and dry.
ichi im not sure if you remember but a while back imentioned using aluminum oxide sandpaper and coke to remove rust.... it didnt work..but not ready to give up on it yet...
Anyone selling a deep fat fryer basket? Cool video. Would the parts need to be degreased first and any special treatment afterwards to prevent them from rusting as quickly?
it does. you can insert something like steel rebar in each side through the filler , just be careful they don't touch the tank. note- If you have the cash, filling a tank with evaporust works awesome. don't use vinegar, it is usually 5% acid so it eats the rust, but also eats the steel.
Metal does not have mechanical properties. If you mean physical properties, the metal is slightly lighter and weaker due to loss of material. The loss is negligible.
@@beauellerson8668 Question was not if metal has mechanical or physical properties, so your comment is obsolete. Also, let me educate you, mechanical properties are real thing strength, hardness, etc., physical properties are color, etc.
@@mihoviltomasic8945 A physical property is any property that is measurable... The physical properties of an object that are traditionally defined by classical mechanics are often called mechanical properties. -wikipedia
Woah! Far too technical for me I'm afraid, looks like devils work to me! Awesome work as ever Mr Moto, your college degree certainly came in handy today👍🏻😊
Wait where is the stupid stuff? This all seems legit to me... SPORKS! I FUCKING LOVE SPORKS! Also, rust pits can only be removed with a dihydrogen monoxide at 273.15 kelvin. This is a non-scientific fact.
Electrolysis is a great option for items that have rusty interiors you can't reach. But for rusty bolts, washers, and the like...it's a complete waste of time. Put those things to a wire wheel and be done with it. That entire basket o' parts could'a been cleaned in 5 minutes, fer cryin' out loud! Sheesh!
I don't understand why these people make the unit, then add the washing soda at the end, then try and mix it. COMMON SENSE would suggest that you make your mixture first FFS
Dude is so smooth with his jokes i cant even tell when hes serious or not.
You are easily one of the finest educators on all of UA-cam.
you are very welcome !
Amazingly simple. Simple genius. Thanks!
Threw me for a loop when you busted out the safety gear haha. Thanks for the video and the laughs.
Nice video bro. Easy to understand how the process works. Thumbs up.
That really worked well. tHanks for posting.
Using the mesh bowl is a good idea
There are sooo many brilliant moments in this video, but it's the scissors that get me, they kill me every time!
swiss diamond blade shears
I love that swiss army knife..... amazing....
Hey that's Badass.
I need to give that a go, its totally badass!
As always Sir, a great how to video, have never done it but im am sorely tempted now..
makes quick work of whatever spare time you would have had
All that with a 9V battery. That is badass!
8, 9, 10... whatever it takes !
Sorry but I'm trying this....did you connect the positive wire to one battery and the negative wire to another battery??
I'm doing this while I type....
Could I use 12v as well?
The rest I got sorted..
Renovating a 50’s truck at the moment:)
I love this how to thank you sir another fine video!
your sticker looks badass on my toolbox !
Thanks I am glad you liked it I hope one day to see it on your tool box in person. Hoping things slow down soon so I can plan something!
now remove rust from handfuls of stuff all at once .. electrolysis is bad ass !
Ichiban Moto do you have any videos where experiment didn't get a five out of five bad ass ichiban moto stickers
Will ummm.. maybe the sub sonic cleaner?
Muffler hanger.... LOL!!!
As always, your good tips are bad bottom my friend!
Also instead of forming a bucket you could do like a teabag method just put the stuff on the mesh and just tie it shut like a little pouch
I’m going to this tomorrow!!!
The blue is hot and the green is power XD
correct :)
2 sporks baby!!!! Bad ass!!!! Voltage grade like always.
Tried this today, worked quite well. My chaka demus are rust free now.
badass awesomeness !

That muffler hanger turned out nice.
I know, right?
Yeah, where are you going to hang that muffler, from the ceiling?
it's a universal hanger

i made a parts tumbler and a vapor blaster also that work well removing rust. i think I have videos on those.
can i use aluminum foild as the basket and was i supposed to bake the baking soda in the oven ?
very helpful thank you!
Can I just use an all in one liquid solution? Maybe some yellow Gatorade would do the trick if baking soda isn't available
Try Brawndo. It's Got Electrolytes !
+Ichiban Moto I thought I was the only one who liked that movie.
What are electrolytes? Do you even know?
I used this technique on my wife's rusty wedding ring, it worked a treat, only thing is that her finger nail dropped off after holding her finger in the solution for to long.

huh
Don't tell people that! The entire health care system would collapse!
+risc19 oh my bad😶
If that isn't the best tip ever, I don't know what is!
+Mr Fister79 nothing

oh- top tip!
Is that stainless steel wire mesh?

I think I will try this later this year, cause it's already raining here and will be raining till September.so I will try it in October.
I can’t find a plain steel mesh to make the basket, everything is stainless steel or aluminum which I believe you aren’t supposed to use. Where can I find some?
So cool, could I use that on stainless steel parts or chromed parts that have some rust on them?
Yes, but the process produces a small amount of toxic gas. So outdoors is preferable.
Can you reduce the used solution and use the iron oxide to make Thermite?
Why material is the screen made of? Stainless steel?
will electrolysis work on my wife? id be nice if she can look like new again.
You don't need a 9v battery, you can do it with two AAs wired in parallel as long as the electrolyte solution is above 40C and the surface area of the cathodes is greater than 40% of the surface area of the parts to be cleaned...
Clearly you wonna do it at room temperature. Where do you get the energy to warm water for 12hrs?😂
I don't have regular water where I live is there a substitute?
Lead water is OK...
our regular water here has lead :o
You can use heavy water. But this way you can only remove rust from heavy metal.
pvc988 Like Metallica metal?
Heavy enough ;)

hi. what would happind If i put a air pump and air stone under the basket? Would it help to de rust faster/better? or it isi't worth it?
does not need agitation, it is all electrolysis
I heard that using Gatorade helps speed up the process
it has electrolytes !
Ichiban Moto very true. Also maybe instead of a battery try a potato and harness the natural energy power
I need to hit the market for more potatoes ... I used mine all up making cannons.
Ichiban Moto just move to Ireland as I hear potatoes are there currency
Ichiban Moto what are electrolytes?
ichi im not sure if you remember but a while back imentioned using aluminum oxide sandpaper and coke to remove rust.... it didnt work..but not ready to give up on it yet...
you mean aluminum foil and coke ? or the one with diy aluminum powder, vinegar, salt and flour?
+Ichiban Moto i think it was the paste video cant really remember though
Where can we get liquid equivalent
Could I plug it into my wall (230v) instead of the power pack you was using? Would be badass if I didn't have to buy a power pack.
Will this also work on plastic chromed part which has got some rust on it? And any side effects?
i have not tried that
Anyone selling a deep fat fryer basket? Cool video. Would the parts need to be degreased first and any special treatment afterwards to prevent them from rusting as quickly?
SPOOOOOOORKS!
when you need to be precise !
Ichiban Moto Yes, without any doubt! But I still prefer the Metric spork...
my name is forever in this video......I will be remembered.....thanks a lot.....
send me a message about getting your stickers :)
+Ichiban Moto woah....you are gonna give me stickers?????
+Ichiban Moto is there any shipping charge???
+Ichiban Moto cause I live in India.
no shipping charge... watch the end of the video.
mmmm baking process
Would this work on the inside of a gas tank?
it does. you can insert something like steel rebar in each side through the filler , just be careful they don't touch the tank. note- If you have the cash, filling a tank with evaporust works awesome. don't use vinegar, it is usually 5% acid so it eats the rust, but also eats the steel.
Hi, does electrolysis have some influence on mechanical properties of metal part? Because I would try this on wheel bolts.
it's actually transferring atoms and molecules and I'm sure some good metal is sacrificed in addition to the rust

No use of methyl ethyl casetone in this at all?
if I were to plate these after cleaning, I would wipe them down with mec
yo my name is Joshua fernandes.not Fernandez.
Electrolysis will sometimes convert an S into a Z.
Oh
Gold.
That was badass !!! Good one mate .... hahahhhaha
Woah! Far too technical for me I'm afraid, looks like devils work to me! Awesome work as ever Mr Moto, your college degree certainly came in handy today👍🏻😊
What's with the flames at 3:56?
heating the sodium for conversion
What electrolyte solution do you use
Seriously? Watch it again.
How hot does the battery get ?
not. it's very low amperage draw
using a piece of Tin Foil shiny side up can also act as a Anode.plus a pinch of salt in your solution.
Bad ass indeed. Can I scale it up do the whole nike in the pool off the mains power?
Alternating power does not work, you will need to put a diode to make it direct power.
Yup Using an Arc welder on 90 Amp as power source, and yeah be very careful when doing so
charge is negative or positive ?
yes, hot is power
If you use a PP9 battery you can de rust a whole car in a swimming pool without no stinkin' arm and hammer stuff.
how well does it work to remove mill-scale from hot-rolled plates?
3:16, not using gloves, be careful!
Badass is an understatement. What if you don't have a wife?
After Grinding black Iran removed
What happened to this guy? I miss his stuff.
Not be easier to just sand blast?
hi and thanks for this video
please no use marker for draw plan
marker sound very bad
oh, yes. of course.

If I stuck my mother's hands in there for 12 hours would it cure her rheumatism ?.
you might test that at 6hrs.. to be safe
I spy some Mary Jane.......
me and Mary go way back
ichiban moto,do you like Japan?????
I was born in Japan
+Ichiban Moto I live Japan. I live gundam and sushi
+Ichiban Moto ichiban moto how should I send you a message?????
