Thomas Jane really got a raw deal with the mediocre movie. He was a good Frank Castle and hopefully you both check out the short "Dirty Laundry" he did to show how they could have done the character justice if he could have another chance at the character.

This is honestly my favorite version of the Punisher, and I definitely cannot for you guys to react to the series soon. It's just as dope as this film 🔥🔥🔥
Yeah, a lot of people dont like this movie for some reason. But except the blowing up car szene at the end, this is actually a great interpretation of the character. Not as good as the Netflix show, but still great.
This version of The Punisher was my favorite out of the three movies. Jane was really good but Bernthal was born to play this role much like Patrick Stewart was for Professor X in the X-Men.
Thomas Jane returned for The Punisher in a 10 minute fan film called The “Punisher: Dirty Laundry” also staring Ron Perlman. Definitely recommend checking it out if you enjoyed this movie as it’s a fun sort of continuation of that version of The Punisher.
The Netflix series is definitely going to be top tier entertainment for Jen. It really is amazing. There are some scenes in particular that everyone remembers because they were so amazing. It's graphic, but very exhilarating. I do love the Punisher (2004) too. I saw it in theaters and it was one of those movies where the audience just had such a great time. Amazing atmosphere. 100% agree that Rebecca Romijn as a love interest made absolutely zero sense. The man's wife and entire family literally just got slaughtered and she's there acting like she's madly in love with him even though they're just strangers living in the same building. Oh well, I adore this movie even when you realize just how many cheesy/overdramatic parts are in it.
Joan wasn't acting like she was madly in love. It's was the response of a woman who has been used her whole life who formed an attachment because Frank saved her from an abusive relationship. Joan - just like Spacker Dave and Bumpo - is a broken person trying to find a new way forward. She believes her only value is physical. It's less eye-rolling to me, and more sad.
@Ronald Jeffrey mcu version is very inaccurate Punisher after losing his family never had any emotions to other people War zone perfectly executes the character
One of the best behind-the-scenes notes is when Rebecca Romjin's Joan is sewing up the knife wound on Frank's shoulder, she accidentally went too deep and sewed the prosthetic wound to his actual shoulder. But he didn't flinch or break character because he wanted to get the take in the can.
They also made a Punisher movie in 1989 with Dolph Lundgren as lead role. I haven't seen it for so long so can't remember if it's really good or not. But if Jen wants more Punisher, that's another one to add to the watchlist. Also, that big Russian guy is directly from the comics (literally just called "The Russian") - in his Wikipedia page he even has the same shirt on as the movie. I remember seeing this one at the cinema and remember not liking it all "that" much. I might have to rewatch to see if my taste has changed at all. I love that Jen loves this character. She definitely has dark tastes in characters, :P
I love this movie. I love it more and more every time i see it. Especially with every passing marvel film or show, the film seems to still stay relevant and hold up EVEN more than it did when it came out.
Never saw this movie but man this was so dope. I'm aware of Punisher origin but how they handled it was so tragic. John Travolta really plays villains too well, what a despicable villain
It’s such an underrated movie and did really badly when it came out. I think it’s because it came off the heels of movies like Spider-Man and Punisher is very much the Anti-Super Hero. It’s not as colorful or cheerful and the Punisher is a few scenes away from being Leather Face sometimes. That’s just my personal theory
Every Punisher movies has a slightly different history telling how he became the Punisher. If you like Thomas Jane as the Punisher, should check out a short video he made called Dirty Laundry. Think it's still on UA-cam.
Super fun to watch Jen loving the punisher stuff. Thank you guys for continuing to make these videos. Did anyone else notice that a cell phone was too close to one of their recording packs? You can hear the data radio comms really well at the 10:39 mark.
Of the three Punisher films, this was my favorite. I couldn't tell from the version you were watching, but there is an extended cut of this film with additional scenes. I believe it was only released on DVD. I think Thomas Jane did a more humanized version of the character than in Punisher (1989) or Punisher: War Zone. I also enjoyed that they gave John Travolta an actual character in this film, unlike so many of the one-dimensional villains that often appear in comic book films. In additional to Rebecca Romijn having played Mystique in the X-Men films, one of the other two in the apartments (Ben Foster) would go on to play Warren Worthington III / Angel in X-Men The Last Stand. As far as being true to the comic, the scene of Frank using the blowtorch and Popsicle was taken directly from a scene in Punisher: War Zone #1 by Chuck Dixon and John Romita Jr. Dixon said he wrote the scene in the comic to be humorous as he didn't want to have Frank feeling enjoyment out of torturing someone. Also, the Russian and his striped shirt are culled from Garth Ennis' run on the series. In the comic, Frank throws pizza in his face rather than boiling water and then suffocates him by smothering him with his neighbor's belly (played by John Pinette in the film).
It’s interesting for you to mention the torture scene but the thing that I always liked in that is that he only makes the character think he’s being tortured. Using the blowtorch on the steak but the popsicle to make him think it’s burning him shows he’s not a total psycho.
I loved Thomas Jane's Punisher. If you've never seen it, Adi Shankar made a little video with Thomas Jane reprising his role. It's called "Dirty Laundry."
To be fair, this movie was Frank Castle's origin story. He didn't embrace the Punisher persona until the very end. As far as the movie is concern, this was just a vengeance story. Jon Bernthal's Punisher was already established in the lore of the show, having been active for an indeterminate amount of time prior to Daredevil. As for Rebecca Romijn, I don't think she was *meant* to be a love-interest. I think her character was established as being attracted to the "wrong" kind of man, as evidenced by her ex-boyfriend hounding her every chance he got. I think her character was meant to be the last vestige of morality for Frank, pleading with him not to go down the path. That once he starts, he'll never be able to stop.
This is based on Garth Ennis' run on the "mature" Marvel label MAX. It is, as you can imagine, brutal and bloody. The basic beats of the story are in this movie, but it has been drastically calmed down and more serious, less violent - if you can imagine.
Correction, Garth Ennis’s Marvel Knights run from 2000-2001, particularly the “Welcome Back, Frank” arc (that was also loosely adapted into the first season of the Netflix show, although the film is much closer to the source material). The MAX run didn’t begin until three months before this film was released.
@@ThePatchedVest that's right, been awhile... I just remember Garth's take and the humor/violence we all came to love from his Preacher series - I think it was even drawn by Steve Dillon. SPACKER DAVE! Joan the Mouse - I felt she was cast very wrong and portrayed wrong And aside from the name and clothes, The Russian wasn't portrayed as anything more than a big, tough guy that visually gave the comics a nod and wink
I forgot how savage this film was. People get on it for not being violent enough, but this was still a Punisher film. And Dirty Laundry. Holy God. It's worth the watch by a LOT. Thomas Jane was an excellent Punisher and he was dedicated to the role.
I love this movie, Thomas Jane played a great Castle/Punisher. I also love Travolta when he plays a villain and his villain didn't disappoint in this movie. I also loved the ways Castle, methodically tore down Howard Saint and his empire.
What Jen said about not being a fan of the love interest part of the story and what Holden counters with is the exact reason why the love interest is there. It's a simple story so having a damaged character look for protection, something real abuse victims do, but having the main character so heavily invested in nothing but revenge highlights how single minded the character is. It's blunt, and surface level but that's what makes this movie so enjoyable and straight ot he point.
I have so much nostalgia for this Punisher movie and the Affleck Daredevil movie, they’ve been 2 of my 3 favorite superheroes along with Spider-Man since I was little because I just loved those early movies. And then when I got older I got spoiled with the amazing Daredevil and Punisher Netflix series which just made me love the characters even more! Thomas Jane was my Punisher for so long and I still love his performance the same, but Jon Bernthal is just the perfect Punisher imo. Both amazing
Such an underrated movie. It's certainly not a "polished" movie, it feels low-budget and very pulpy. And I can totally understand why many people may not like the writing overall -- I don't think I'll be able to comprehensively defend the critiques -- but all I can say is that it works for me. I enjoy the slightly weird tone of being both too grim and too silly. That they had the Punisher also not just pew-pew everyone to death but also manipulate and trick Saint into betraying both his wife and best-friend is appreciated. And Thomas Jane may not look the part as much as Ray Stevenson or Jon Bernthal but I still really like his portrayal. It's a shame it never got the sequel I and many others think it deserved, but I also appreciate the fact that Thomas Jane was picky about doing its sequel. He apparently had the chance but turned down a couple scripts for a sequel because he felt they kinda sucked. Who knows, he may have been wrong and they'd have been good, but I appreciate his intent anyway.
I think this is the only Punisher movie where you actually see Punisher being a great strategic killer, so the writing it's not as bad. But yeah, it lacks polish in some areas like it's reboot Warzone. But that's what makes them good too, it don't need to be perfect.
this is one of my favorite movies of all time I actually like that Joan has a crush on Frank I think if there was a trilogy they'd probably get involved and I would've loved that lol
It would've been so cool to see the Raimi Spider-Man team up with the Thomas Jane Punisher, since he had his quick little cameo in Spider-Man 2. Somewhere in the multiverse that happened.
Great reaction! This Punisher movie was my favorite version. Dolph Lundgren portrayed Punisher in a 1989 movie. And after this movie Ray Stevenson played the role in a 2008 Punisher movie which was actually pretty good too. Disregarding the 1989 movie, I've always looked at each actors portrayal of the character as watch the character descend further down the path of vengeful punishment. Thomas Jane's version is where he begins and he is still moral enough to help others as a decent human being and only taking things into his own hands because the Justice system failed. Ray Stevenson's version is singularly focused but has fallen far enough that he is willing to go a bit further than Jane's character would have. Bernthal's Punisher is a character who has completely fallen and is willing to do anything and sacrifice anyone to see his version of justice done. In some of the last comic book versions of the Punisher (around the Civil War) he was much more of a 'the ends justifies the means'. But that's just my view.
@Holden Hardman For Jen: The Punisher (1989; Dolph Lundgren) The Punisher (2004; Thomas Jane) Punisher: War Zone (2008; Ray Stevenson) Iron Man: Rise of Technovore (2014; animated, Norman Reedus) Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher (2014; animated, Brian Bloom) Daredevil Season 2 (2016; Jon Bernthal) Punisher Season 1 & 2 (2017-2018; Jon Bernthal)
It's explained in the extended cut how the Saints got Frank Castle's name. (A sub-plot was cut out of the movie.) The movie is based on the comics Year One and Welcome Back, Frank. The popsicle scene was out of an issue of a comic aswell.
not much padding on the wall opposite the wall he ran through to look at 20.26 minute mark, as if he got thrown through!he got groggy for real since he hit the wall so hard!
Rewatching this with you actually made me really appreciate some of the stunt work in this film. The person falling off the moving motorcycle during the family genocide is a genuinely impressive feat to capture in-camera like they did. This film has its flaws, but it's still a great Punisher film.
This movie was legitimately my childhood, from watching this movie repeatedly to playing the game based on it on the original Xbox, I have a soft spot in my heart for punisher because of this
There was an earlier version of the character that as released in 1989, with Dolph Lungdren and Louis Gossett Jr. In the film, Frank Castle is a NYPD officer trying to bring down a mob boss corrupting his precinct, but when he gets too close, SPOILER! the mob has had wife and son killed in a car bomb, thus turning him into the vigilante The Punisher. It recieved negative Reviews by Critics but has gained a cult following overtime.
The Umbrella Blu Ray release of that film is worth tracking down as it has several cuts of the film. I always did enjoy the Lundgren film over the 2004 one. I even enjoyed War Zone versus the 2004 film as it actually felt more like Punisher MAX then anything else.
You should check out the Punisher fanfilm Dirty Laundry. Its a fanfilm, made by Thoas Jane who actually played the Punisher. He made the fan film becauae he said it was the way he imagined a Punisher movie being, rather than the crap fest he was in.
Fully agreed! These are actually my favourite Marvel movies lol, I cba for all the excessive cheesy humour plaguing the MCU. Marvel without Disney would be a lot more respected.
If you watched wrestling you'll recognize the "Russian Waldo" as Kevin Nash the WWE Wrestler. He also was the Bouncer that John Wick told to "Take the night off" at the Red Room in the first John Wick movie.
This is the second reaction I’ve seen where the content creators are so confused as to why the tenants bond with Frank so quickly. It’s so strange to me how that doesn’t connect with some people. But I always took it as them connecting with his trauma. You can tell that all three of the others come from some real rough stuff, so even though they haven’t known Frank very long, they empathize with him. He’s broken like they are, so they take to him immediately.
I really think this movie is really underrated due to how good Thomas Jane was as Frank Castle. They just threw a bunch of crazy into script that should have just been personal. In which I think that's where the movie is at its strongest. When it's personal!
The first song in the credits is Step Up by Drowning Pool. Fun Fact: a month and two days before this movie came out, the song Step Up was the official theme song for WWE Wrestlemania 20 which took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The only reason the this Punisher didn't start going after others was because there was no sequel. I don't understand why there wasn't a sequel because this movie rocked. It was pretty brutal for a superhero genre movie at that time. The romantic interest was fine. She had a habit of making wrong decisions with guys. Here comes a decent guy that is hurting and needs help. How could she resist that? But, he's dead set on revenge. So, no coupling. But, I think she and the two neighbors pulled him back from the edge just enough that he didn't just find a way to kill his enemies and die with them. He punished them, live on, and is now ready to find new scum to punish. If only there was a sequel.
The Punisher 2 was going to have Thomas Jane reprise the role of the character, but due to creative differences between Jane and Lionsgate, the sequel was cancelled. Action film director Walter Hill was going to make the project as his first comic book movie. The film was rebooted as THE PUNISHER WAR ZONE in December 2008, with Ray Stevenson as the title character. Marvel rebooted the character for the Netflix series and cast Jon Bernthal in the lead.
We were robbed of Barracuda TWICE, and that's not even counting the Netflix show as there's no proof about them going that route. That's really unfortunate.
I think the director's cut of this movie is a lot better because it has a few scenes that help with context purposes and give more relationship depth towards Frank and Joan as well as Frank and his partner
Thomas Jane did such a good job as Frank Castle. Dolph Lundgren was the first Punisher back in 1989. I enjoyed his version of it as well. The real story behind Frank's vengeance was a car bomb that killed his wife and kids. If you choose to watch Dolph's version, I'm on board. Ray Stevenson also played the Punisher in the sequel War Zone. Nice reaction as usual guys. The Marvel nerds out there know that Frank was involved in a number of team ups: Defenders, Code Red, Geraci Family, Hearts Of Darkness, Heroes For Hire, Legion Of Monsters, Marvel Knights, National Force, Outlaw Avengers, Savage Avengers, Secret Defenders, Thunderbolts, The Hand, Training in the Marine Corps and Special Forces.
Punisher War Zone is more of a reboot with the events of his family being like the comics than the 2004 film along with Rey Stevenson (who played Volstagg, one of Thor’s best friends in the MCU) playing Castle and it’s much more brutal and more inline to the comics than Jane’s interpretation but it’s still an enjoyable watch if you want to see more punisher action.👌🏼
8:07 There's an Extended Cut that explains how they got the info on Frank Castle. It's part of a subplot involving his friend Jimmy, which gives this scene 14:11 a bit more importance. That version also includes a really cool animated opening showing a bit of Frank and Jimmy's military background. As a heads up, War Zone was supposed to be a sequel, but director Jon Hensleigh and Tom Jane both dropped out because of creative differences so it was reworked into a standalone film.
I'll add another fun fact: Kevin Nash was super shredder in TMNT, He was Diesel in the WWE, one of the founding members of the NWO in WCW, and was also in the longest yard with Adam Sandler. His own son also tried to pull his eye out of his head.
I actually really enjoyed this movie growing up, I always had The Rami Spider-Man movie's the FF movies, X-Men, and Punisher on loop constantly growing up. Now that Marvel has these characters all back, it makes me super excited for Avengers Secret Wars.
Jon Bernthal is a great punisher, but I personally think Thomas Jane KILLED this role and performance he did an amazing job especially for the time this came out
I haven't seen the sequel, but i dont think it was received very well. They recast Frank Castle, it isnt Thomas Jane but instead Ray Stevenson plays him. Im assuming it continues on since its a sequel and not a remake. I really enjoy this movie. It was my introduction to the Punisher character. There is a youtube short film of The Punisher starring Thomas Jane called The Punisher Dirty Laundry. Its about 10 minutes long and has 30 million views on youtube, i definitely recommend it. Its very good.
I saw this when it was released in theaters and absolutely loved it. Thomas Jane was a great Punisher, but he was not my first Punisher. In the early 90's there was a film called The Punisher, with Dolph Lundgren playing the role of The Punisher. It is not a great movie, but it was interesting. I still watch it once and awhile. But, as far as film adaptations of The Punisher go, this one is my favorite. That being said, I also love Jon Bernthal's portrayal of Frank Castle. And I like Jon Bernthal as an actor, going back to his roles in the HBO series The Pacific and the movie World Trade Center. And, of course, Shane on The Walking Dead.
This is a crazy coincidence! I just saw this movie for the first time last weekend so to see this reaction is very welcome indeed! This is probably the most underrated Marvel movie, it never got the recognition it deserves. This felt like a gritty 70s vigilante thriller, I enjoyed it. The soundtrack is also haunting and eerie, it was great. Thomas Jane was badass in the role and he looked the part too, plus he really sold the disturbed lost look of losing everyone he loved. His portrayal is that of a more methodical, calculating man. The supporting cast was also really good with John Travolta being entertaining as usual, Will Patton was really good - I actually felt sorry for his character Quentin and the way he died (this really sells Punisher as an anti-hero), Ben Foster acted brilliantly as usual and Rebecca Romijn was alright.
such an underrated movie! Thomas Jane is an amazing actor and Travolta was a an appropriately evil villain. Was so disappointed that they didn't make part 2 with Jane. Not sure if you know about it but they did make a short quasi sequel with Jane that was online a few years ago
I knew there was gonna be at least one person on here who was gonna say it was “underrated.” 🙄 Because everybody on UA-cam is so infatuated with that word and calling so many things “underrated”
The Russian (guy in the red and white striped shirt) is Kevin Nash. He has a few movie roles under his belt. He was Francis in the first John Wick movie, but I believe his first movie role was that of "Super Shredder" in TMNT 2: The Secret of the Ooze.
Would love to see reactions to both other Punisher movies (Punisher 1989 and Punisher: War Zone). Very different kinds of movies than this one, much lighter on plot but way heavier on action. "Check your brain at the door and just have fun" kind of 80's style action movies. They're a blast.
What I loved about this movie is that it shows all the aspects of Frank Castle. He's not a stupid animal that screams and cries like a kid at the dentist like the Netflix "Punisher". He's a man of few words, calculated and extremely intelligent when it comes to warfare. How he used divide and conquer, making his enemy kills his own people to deal an even more insulting finishing blow was amazing.

Really tedious in some parts but the interpretation of Frank is 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Netflix series completed?
The Punisher 2004, Punisher War Zone, and The Punisher series are all great.
Also, the short film Dirty Laundry with Tom Jane too
And punisher 1989.
Yeah, don't forget about Dolph. I love the casino shootout in that movie.
War zone is definitely the best version of the character.
@Ronald Jeffrey mcu version is very inaccurate
Punisher after losing his family never had any emotions to other people
War zone perfectly executes the character
Didn't see this coming at all. My favorite adaptation of The Punisher by far. Can't wait for more oldies but goodies.
My favorite part of this reaction was the microphones input! It's about time we got that perspective! Thanks guys, great movie! 👍
This Punisher is in the same universe as the Toby Maguire Spider-Man.
Never saw this movie but man this was so dope. I'm aware of Punisher origin but how they handled it was so tragic. John Travolta really plays villains too well, what a despicable villain
Never seen the movie but you saying this was a good approach??
@@Failingatlife69 I mean I liked it
It’s such an underrated movie and did really badly when it came out. I think it’s because it came off the heels of movies like Spider-Man and Punisher is very much the Anti-Super Hero. It’s not as colorful or cheerful and the Punisher is a few scenes away from being Leather Face sometimes. That’s just my personal theory
@@Failingatlife69 Better Than That Trash Netflix Series
Who watches a reaction vid of a movie they've never watched before? It's like watching highlights with commentary!
Every Punisher movies has a slightly different history telling how he became the Punisher.
If you like Thomas Jane as the Punisher, should check out a short video he made called Dirty Laundry. Think it's still on UA-cam.
Jens knowledge of 90s and early 2000s actors impresses me SO much
Super fun to watch Jen loving the punisher stuff. Thank you guys for continuing to make these videos.
Did anyone else notice that a cell phone was too close to one of their recording packs? You can hear the data radio comms really well at the 10:39 mark.
It's not that. There's a connection issue with Jen's lav mic.
Dude, what is that "90s incoming mobile phone call interfering with computer speakers" sound?
Smart clever patient Punisher REST IN PEACE TO THE CASTLE FAMILY .
It’s interesting for you to mention the torture scene but the thing that I always liked in that is that he only makes the character think he’s being tortured. Using the blowtorch on the steak but the popsicle to make him think it’s burning him shows he’s not a total psycho.
Oh btw, there's also a Punisher film from 1989 with Dolph Lundgren!
One of the best superhero movies. I hate how most superhero movies don’t go for realism anymore. Thomas Jane kills it in this. OG
Superhero??
Great series, the cover art of those issues is amazing!
"In the Beginning" is my favorite one out of that series.
@@ThePatchedVest that's right, been awhile... I just remember Garth's take and the humor/violence we all came to love from his Preacher series - I think it was even drawn by Steve Dillon.
SPACKER DAVE!
Joan the Mouse - I felt she was cast very wrong and portrayed wrong
And aside from the name and clothes, The Russian wasn't portrayed as anything more than a big, tough guy that visually gave the comics a nod and wink
Punisher and Superman. The most understandable backstory in comics. These people deserve what they got.
Definitely check out "The Punisher: Dirty Laundry." It's a short, but extremely well done!
Thomas Jane tried hard to reprise the role of The Punisher. Nobody would budge at the time. He even funded a Punisher short called Dirty Laundry.
I seen Punisher in the title and thought the series and was so excited. But the movie will do for now :)
(At 8:38) Yes, this is The Punisher's emblem.
7:50, Roy Schieder, the Police Chief/dad from JAWS!
FunFact: Rebecca Romijn (Mystique) and Ben Foster (Angel) were in 2 different X-Men movies (not at the same time) but were in this movie (together)
11:33 Periodically, there's a lot of BUZZING in the audio...just lettin' ya know.
Possibly some interference with the TV
This was my favorite punisher movie ever
What Jen said about not being a fan of the love interest part of the story and what Holden counters with is the exact reason why the love interest is there. It's a simple story so having a damaged character look for protection, something real abuse victims do, but having the main character so heavily invested in nothing but revenge highlights how single minded the character is. It's blunt, and surface level but that's what makes this movie so enjoyable and straight ot he point.
This is one of my favourite Punisher movies this movie is what got me into the Punisher because of this movie Thomas Jane is my favourite Punisher
Also there's a director cut of this movie and that's my favourite version of this Punisher movie
They should bring back thomas jane back as a multiverse variant.
@CheekyBoomBoom what isn’t underrated to you????
this is one of my favorite movies of all time
I actually like that Joan has a crush on Frank
I think if there was a trilogy they'd probably get involved and I would've loved that lol
Everyone's first Punisher movie watch should be the 80s one with Dolp : D
But that's just my view.
well said. i agree with your comments
@Holden Hardman
For Jen:
The Punisher (1989; Dolph Lundgren)
The Punisher (2004; Thomas Jane)
Punisher: War Zone (2008; Ray Stevenson)
Iron Man: Rise of Technovore (2014; animated, Norman Reedus)
Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher (2014; animated, Brian Bloom)
Daredevil Season 2 (2016; Jon Bernthal)
Punisher Season 1 & 2 (2017-2018; Jon Bernthal)
If Jen wants to watch more Punisher, have her watch the 89' Dolph Lundgren version, and the 08' Punisher War Zone films.
Honestly the first Punisher movie is better than I expected.
@@marcusanark2541 by first movie, do you mean the 89 movie?
@@matthewandrews3883 Yes, the Dolph Lundgren one, considering the budget and the time it was done, it had some redeeming moments.
@@marcusanark2541 I absolutely agree. It wasn't all horrible. And it might have fared even better had they used the skull logo on Frank in the movie.
@@matthewandrews3883 Yep, that's my main issue with the movie too.
It's explained in the extended cut how the Saints got Frank Castle's name. (A sub-plot was cut out of the movie.) The movie is based on the comics Year One and Welcome Back, Frank. The popsicle scene was out of an issue of a comic aswell.
Fun fact: Kevin Nash, the Russian Waldo, actually got stabbed in the shoulder with that knife.
not much padding on the wall opposite the wall he ran through to look at 20.26 minute mark, as if he got thrown through!he got groggy for real since he hit the wall so hard!
to me this is the best punisher out of all others because it's an origin story and it is almost perfectly matched to the comic story line
Rewatching this with you actually made me really appreciate some of the stunt work in this film. The person falling off the moving motorcycle during the family genocide is a genuinely impressive feat to capture in-camera like they did. This film has its flaws, but it's still a great Punisher film.
This movie was legitimately my childhood, from watching this movie repeatedly to playing the game based on it on the original Xbox, I have a soft spot in my heart for punisher because of this
This punisher feels more fun than the Netflix one. I guess you can call him the Funisher
His dad was played by Roy sheider the main actor from jaws. This was one of his last major roles
Its more the tone of the comic unlike this movie which is just goofy. pg punisher in sunny miami, no thank you : P
The Umbrella Blu Ray release of that film is worth tracking down as it has several cuts of the film. I always did enjoy the Lundgren film over the 2004 one. I even enjoyed War Zone versus the 2004 film as it actually felt more like Punisher MAX then anything else.
This is the best Punisher you can't change my mind
You should check out the Punisher fanfilm Dirty Laundry. Its a fanfilm, made by Thoas Jane who actually played the Punisher. He made the fan film becauae he said it was the way he imagined a Punisher movie being, rather than the crap fest he was in.
This, and the Raimi-Spider-Man films, are the best pre-MCU Marvel movies, period.
Fully agreed! These are actually my favourite Marvel movies lol, I cba for all the excessive cheesy humour plaguing the MCU. Marvel without Disney would be a lot more respected.
While I love Jon Bernthal, Thomas Jane is my punisher 💀 🔫 (Ironic seeing how T.Jane was considered for Rick Grimes originally)
Love Andrew Lincoln, but Thomas Jane would've made a great Rick!
If you watched wrestling you'll recognize the "Russian Waldo" as Kevin Nash the WWE Wrestler. He also was the Bouncer that John Wick told to "Take the night off" at the Red Room in the first John Wick movie.
Could you watch Sherlock holmes movies with robert downey jr I think you would really enjoy them : )
This is the second reaction I’ve seen where the content creators are so confused as to why the tenants bond with Frank so quickly. It’s so strange to me how that doesn’t connect with some people. But I always took it as them connecting with his trauma. You can tell that all three of the others come from some real rough stuff, so even though they haven’t known Frank very long, they empathize with him. He’s broken like they are, so they take to him immediately.
I actually like the 1980s Punisher. Give it a shot?
I really think this movie is really underrated due to how good Thomas Jane was as Frank Castle. They just threw a bunch of crazy into script that should have just been personal. In which I think that's where the movie is at its strongest. When it's personal!
The first song in the credits is Step Up by Drowning Pool. Fun Fact: a month and two days before this movie came out, the song Step Up was the official theme song for WWE Wrestlemania 20 which took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Jon Bernthal‘s portrayal as the punisher will always be the best 💀🔥
Strongly disagree but to each their own
This movie was made in 2004 but feels like a 90s movie
If only there was a sequel.
wtf is up with the sound quality? It’s making all kinds of noises. You either have too many mics hooked up or just really bad sound quality
16:25: "Don't let your memories kill you." Best thing I could hear today.
You Guys Have To Watch The FanMade Short Movie WITH Thomas Jane Back As The Punisher, Not Sure How They Pulled That Off But They Did.
Punisher War Zone is more of a reboot with the events of his family being like the comics than the 2004 film along with Rey Stevenson (who played Volstagg, one of Thor’s best friends in the MCU) playing Castle and it’s much more brutal and more inline to the comics than Jane’s interpretation but it’s still an enjoyable watch if you want to see more punisher action.👌🏼
thomas jane is the punisher.
8:36, there it is, his signature look!
Its very good.
oh man I forgot about this, never bring a knife to a gun fight
Thomas Jane is my favorite version of The Punisher
The Dolph Lundgren version is from 1989.
Thomas Jane is a fanstastic actor, you guys should watch The Expanse, he has an amazing character in that show.
I knew there was gonna be at least one person on here who was gonna say it was “underrated.” 🙄
Because everybody on UA-cam is so infatuated with that word and calling so many things “underrated”
Seeing Roy Scheider as Frank's dad always brings a smile to my face
Holden and Jen! You guys HAVE to watch the short follow up to this movie "Dirty Laundry". It's just 10 minutes and Thomas Jane is part of it!
