Please react to a movie called How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies. It's a Thai movie, it centered around a young male who, after received news that his grandma got diagnosed with cancer, decided to take care of his grandma while he himself trying to secure his inheritance from his grandma.
This movie is a seriously tear-jerker movie, full of family-themed lessons and, I can dare to say, this movie is a lot better than any family movies that you've ever seen or reacted before.

You guys have become my top tier movie reactors, when I see you have a new reaction uploaded, I know it’s gonna be great! If I may, I would like to recommend the following if you haven’t seen them:
The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise and Kent Watanabe.
Brewster’s Millions (1985 edition) With Richard Pryor and John Candy.
Flood (2007) With Robert Carlyle and David Suchet. (British Based Film, yet strangely enough, filmed in Cape Town South Africa!)
Inside Man With Denzel Washington and Clive Owen.
There’s a fair bit of diversity with these choices, so at least they don’t fall under the same genre. If you have seen/get to see them, I hope you enjoy(ed)!

To be fair, kind of helps if the people are unified. As stands one side only riots if their guys lose. A two party system as deeply entrenched as ours (US’s) is has been really making that hurt. I know that I only vote one way regardless of quality of candidate because I’ve seen that that’s how the other side works and they implement horrifying changes.

In Evie's rebirth scene you can see the difference between her and V he was reborn in fire and rage while she was reborn in water and joy. That's why he left the decision up to her in the end he knew he was a monster driven by his darker emotions and was no longer certain he was doing the right thing. So he passed the torch to someone he knew was truly good. When the Domino's fell one was left standing the one he didn't control and couldn't predict it represents Evie.

I thought the domino left standing was supposed to represent V... with him removing the one left standing (by proxy, removing himself), everything fell into place: parliament blowing up, and a new government being formed. Had he survived, he would've been in the way of new government forming (perhaps the people would've chose him), and that was not something that he would have wanted.

This has been going on for many years, since Blair and through the Tory Gov's.
They are not working for us but against us and for globalist special interests.
The Western nations were marked for destruction to make way for Global governance run by the elite.

They say they found information linking him to the viral outbreak. That's technically true. It's how it's worded that leads you to think that he's responsible. They were actually highlighting a trick that the news often does. They don't state something outright. But they present it in such a way that people often make those inferrences.

Yet more people proved we are more unitied this election than ever? The mainstream media would have us believe the loud minority is bigger than it is and by their rhetoric that those that disagree with you hate you. It was a huge shift in every county in the nation. Most of the country REJECTED the lies of the media and became MORE red this year even if notoriously blue. We rejected the denial of biological reality, the gaslighting that the current administration was competent & used our tax dollars efficiently and for our betterment, the lie that we do not need a strong secure border. We voted for the defense of free speech, for no government manipulation of social media & mainstream news, for maintaining our borders which define our nation, for not mandating healthy individuals to take a substance that they knowingly HID was harmful, for what is probably the most politically diverse unity coalition in our history. Its given us so much hope that an undeniable number of our fellow citizens said no, we DO agree more than we disagree, that the government should have LESS control over our lives and leave US alone to grow without their influence!

Comic nerd here. Alan Moore is famous for disliking adaptations of his work, and this film is no different. He has never really explained why he dislikes them, but I suspect he prefers shades of Grey. Both Watchmen and V for Vendetta in comic form were much less overt in the character motivations. The film adaptations often try and draw a line to have good guys and bad guys and I think that rubs Moore the wrong way. But to answer your question, I very much like the film as an adaptation of the comic. The comic is not a particularly long read because it isn't part of a larger work. Very worth checking out. Also, fuck fascism.

    • @OfficialMediaKnights
      @OfficialMediaKnights  20 днів тому +23

I can understand why he would dislike it if his intentions were to have his characters depicted with a bit more of moral ambiguity.
However when it comes to films, because it is a very popular medium to deliver stories and through them a message, it can be a double edge sword as not everyone has the same media literacy. People who read these graphic novels will always be looking to read between the lines vs watching a film which some may just take at face value.
When it comes to this film you definitely don’t want the wrong people getting the wrong ideas.

I dunno, i'd submit it's not _just_ "shades of grey" but also actual _substance_ that the movies tend to lose - however many literary allusions, transgressive ideas etc. we might see in the adaptations, I think it's fair to say the comics have way more.
But _also_ "shades of grey". V himself is more ambiguous in the comic i'd say (what he does to Evie is pretty hard to defend for instance - it's the kind of "means justify the ends" approach that every authoritarian regime in history has used to justify its atrocities - but in the _movie_ we see him break down afterwards, casting him in a more sympathetic, human light whereas in the book IIRC he basically just keeps calmly explaining _why_ he tortured her for weeks, like a teacher leading a student to the inevitable "right" conclusion. Ideas might be bulletproof but they also don't really _care_ about people on an individual level, which is a nuance that's greatly softened, if not entirely missing, in the movie).
So even though personally i've mostly liked the adaptations (this one especially), I kinda get where Moore might be coming from too (plus I bet there's a _bit_ of just him being an old curmudgeon at this point :).

    • @JamesB5383
      @JamesB5383 20 днів тому +8

@@OfficialMediaKnights There's also the fact that Alan Moore was screwed over by DC.
He signed a contract with them saying the rights for V for Vendetta and Watchmen would revert back to him after both of the comics had been out of print for a year.
DC has never let either of the comics go out of print and he ended up only receiving royalties of around 8% for Watchmen which he shares with the artist of the comic, Dave Gibbons.
When he realised he'd been swindled he decided never to work with DC again and refused to have his name put on any of the movie adaptions of his work.
I'll admit I'm a bit of a fan boy but people write Moore off as being an oddball, miserable curmudgeon but there's a bit more to it.
This is just the cliff notes version of the story but I think Alan is a fantastic writer and he has created some amazing works of literature.

Evie's "poem" is actually a well-known nursery rhyme here in the UK :). Maybe worth noting too that on "bonfire night" (the 5th of November each year, when we have fireworks, sometimes burn Guy Fawkes in effigy etc.) we're commemorating the Gunpowder Plot _failing_ and _not_ celebrating the attempt (given that it was directed at a king _and_ this movie's 'vibe', I guess people from the US might see the event as a pro-democracy "blow for freedom" but Fawkes et al actually just wanted to swap a Protestant king for Catholic rule, so not exactly "power to the people" :).
And the comic is one of my all time faves but I think the film does a pretty decent job of adapting it. The main difference IMO (aside from some plot bits and bobs) is the pro democracy emphasis in the movie vs more a call to _anarchy_ in the comic - in the film V is against _corrupt_ governments, in the book he's more against _all_ governments (but "Valerie", as the chapter in the comic is called - which 30+ years on remains one of my favourite parts of _any_ comic - is still a beautiful segment in the movie which suggests to me that the Wachowskis understood the _soul_ of the book).

Warrior featuring some fantastic characters such as the cyborg 'Axel Pressbutton’, the _Prisoner_ / _Avengers-esq 'Big Ben', and Hammer Horror vampire hunter, ’Father Shandor’. Warrior was an outstanding collaboration of British writers and artistic talent coming together during the early 80s, many of whom went on to bigger and well renowned works that still resonate today.

@ As current Hollywood churns out sequels and the bland, the British Comic Industry has a plethora of hugely untapped fantastical characters that could potentially become big. Hoping the new Rebellion Studios, who now own the rights to 2000ad and many other British comics heroes and characters, unleashes their much awaited film productions soon. Characterr like Axel Pressbutton, The Adventures of Halo Jones, even spooky tales from 70s supernatural girl’s comic ‘Misty’ with worlds portal story ‘The Sentinals’, ‘Nemesis the Warlock’, fantasy warrior ‘Slaine’, Eagle comic’s shapeshifting alien ‘Doomlord’, Strontium Dog, the short lived 80s British horror comic ‘Scream’ nightmare worlds with Max - the tower block psychotic computer nightmare realms on ‘The Thirteenth Floor’ to name but a few.
Rebellion Studio’s output would be helped greatly if backed up by HBO or the like. A future-retro of 1950s Dan Dare (one of the UK’s first leading merchandise IPs) flight to Venus would look great. A cool anthology series of short stories with ‘Tharg’s Future Shocks’ in the same vein as Love, Death + Robots would be brilliant.

@@anonymes2884 I was never really a sweeties eater, I much preferred spending my pocket money that I earned working a few hours for my Dad on the weekend, spent mostly on comics, bubblegum cards, stickers and practical jokes from the Joke Shop. Hard to believe in this day and age that 9 or 10 year olds were permitted to work. I'm thankful for that learning curve, it taught me about spending and saving and put my in good stead for the future and the 'big bad world' that was waiting for me around the corner.
By the time Warrior arrived, I already had a few comics on order on a weekly and monthly basis, such as 2000AD, Eagle, Battle, Doctor Who Weekly/Monthly, Jackpot and a comic magazine called Tops which was like a rival to Look-in, featuring comic strips based on TV shows such as Minder, The Professionals, and Hart to Hart and pin-ups of pop stars (Post-Punk, New Romantics, Nu-Wave era). It was indeed a great time for comics, that for even the titles I didn't have on order but so wished I read and ordered on a weekly basis if it wasn't for Mum putting a limit on the amount I could bring into the house, I would pick up the Holiday and Summer Specials as tasters of the other titles, such as Tiger, Victor, Hotspur, Bananaman, Topper, Beezer, The Dandy and The Beano. I even used to read my slightly older sister's comics, specials and annuals, my favourite of hers being Misty, the 'supernatural comic for girls', now _that_ was a great comic too, and I wished that there was a spooky comic for boys to read. It wasn't until 1984 when Scream! came along and I got my wish... and of course that one went on order too!
Such a shame that it's practically all gone now and kids aren't getting the kind of adventure comics we all grew up with... and still talk about them 40 years on!!

I gravitated to the graphic novel of V for Vendetta solely due to the Guy Fawkes mask. I love this movie, love all the references to the original plot to destroy parliament. I'm from Chile, before the pandemic, we had a "civil unrest", it became the "Estallido". There were marches, in the capital there was a march of +1 million people, some buildings were burned (in my city they burned the SII, our version of the IRS), some people went into hunger strikes, the country was really unhappy with the government, the constitution, etc. The government of course responded with more repression, people died, around 500 people lost some vision, they lost one of their eyes to rubber bullets from police, 2 people lost both eyes. People in power tried to blame protesters for everything, an example is that some subway stations were burned, there were rumors of people being tortured down there. Even with all of that, people still went outside and protested, we were tired, we were done with everything, we felt we had nothing left to lose, so you prepared the best you could and we went outside to protest. A lot of people used the Guy Fawkes mask, including me, with a sign that read "People should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people" some wrote "Behind this mask there's an idea, and ideas are bulletproof" after some deaths and more cases of eyes lost.
We got what we wanted, a process to write a new constitution, but when the time came to vote for or against it, people voted against it because of lies and politicians bending the truth (unfortunately there were people using the protests for their own good, they lied, stole, destroyed just because). Now of course there's people who blame protestors "you destroyed the country", now we are left with the same constitution written during our dictatorship, but what hurts me the most is the people who died or lost their eyes for nothing.
This movie used to give me hope, now it's just another fictional work.

John Hurt (RIP) is also got to be commended on such a villainous, but superb performance!

I was a huge fan of the comic and was really excited when this was getting made. Back then, I felt like it softened the message of fascism/anarchy too much. There's no denying that they did soften it in some ways but upon rewatching it recently and watching you guys react to it, I'm definitely seeing it more for what it is and less for what I wanted it to be so long ago. It's not a perfect remake but it's become timeless and accessible in a way a true adaptation might have failed. The way they do Evie's imprisonment is so good and aside from Evie being older (she was 16 in the comic), it's very accurate in those scenes. Definitely worth reading the graphic novel. Alan Moore wrote it about Margaret Thatcher in the 80s and its message is even more relevant today.

Alan Moore is a savant. But he hates every movie that is made from his work. In some cases I agree, in others not so much.
Moore cut his teeth on 2000AD, a British anti-establishment weekly comic from the 1970s which for some insane reason was stocked on retailer shelves next to The Beano. My first intronduction was a 1978 2000AD annual I bought from a church jumble sale when I was only 8. Inside was an image of a man screaming in agony whilst being incinerated by a missile, another being impaled on a spike, and the absolute worst... someone being mauled by a polar bear. I was hooked.
Moore started by writing Future Shocks, short cautionary tales which were loaded with satirical wit. He went on to write my favourite of his works, The Ballad of Halo Jones, Watchmen, V For Vendetta and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen which you will find on the shelves of any serious collector.
V For Vendetta is absolutely packed. This film barely scratches the surface.
Zack Snyder's Watchmen should be on your list.

To the American (or just non-British) audience:
You need to understand the history of Guy Fawkes to fully appreciate this story.
I find it ironic that Guy Fawkes is a symbol of attempting to take down what he thought was a tyrannical government, and yet the UK has a far more tyrannical government than Guy Fawkes had, yet they still celebrate Bonfire Night, essentially celebrating the tyrannical regime winning.
    But look at the parallels:
A media that spins the truth to protect the government, just like in the current Western World.
A regime that attempt to crush political opposition, accusing them of extreme violence when they know it's false - J6 anyone?
Searching for the truth is a dangerous activity, you need to just shut up and watch what is fed to you on the TV (idiot box).
Is it any wonder why so many people are fed up with it, want a reduced government, and want politicians to be held to account?

This is a textbook definition of propoganda, and what should be shown to people who don't understand the differences between miscommunication and propoganda. It also shows a very dangerous and real concern about what happens when you have a police state that controls access to information and media outlets. Read into those statements however and whatever you wish. This movie should serve as a warning and a caution of what happens once that ball starts rolling. Yes, I realize it is just a movie, adapted from a graphic novel. However, the movie came out in 2005. Kind of crazy how close it got to everything that has happened since 2020 despite coming out 15 years before any of that ever happened. Maybe it was just all super accurate guesswork of potential problems of society. 🤷‍♂️. Great reaction to a great movie. I also agree that Hugo Weaving should have been nominated for an Oscar for his role. I wonder if the fact he wore a mask for the entire movie is what kept him from receiving one.
