Punisher: War Zone four years later would prove to be the better Punisher film, however despite being PG-13 (War Zone being rated R), it's still great for what it is. I love Thomas Jane.
Thomas Jane in my opinion was (and still is) the perfect casting for the role of (Frank Castle) the Punisher. His is my favorite portrayal out of any show or movie. ”Punisher : Dirty Laundry” is a self funded short that Thomas Jane made. From what I remember him saying in an interview he made it in an attempt to get a sequel funded with him still in the lead role. Sadly the sequel got made with the lead role recast. Marvel needs to bring him back for the role in the MCU.
Respectfully disagree. Thomas Jane is great but IMO Jon Bernthal does a more than good enough job and if the MCU is smart, since they have reprised the Netflix shows, they'll bring Bernthal back.
@@GrimBrother I don't think they'll bring it back his character was too hyper violent for the MCU they're going to tone down the Netflix characters I think we're lucky to Daredevil and Kingpin and even those two will have some changes done to them. But who knows it can still be good we'll just have to wait and see
People hate this movie because they think it wasn’t true to the source material but it’s a great movie if you ignore that and just treat it as a stand alone revenge story
Wrestler is Kevin Nash as The Russian. Fun Fact: when The Russian got stabbed in the shoulder, Nash actually got stabbed in the shoulder. What was funny, he didn't notice till the blade was removed. He looked and saw blood and was like: "Huh...I've been stabbed...so, we doing that take again?" Nash was and is A Beast!
I fkkking LOVE this guy! Seems like he'd be a TRIP to hang out with in person! ❤️🤣👍💯 (Fun fact: When Thomas Jane got thrown through the wall by "The Russian" (Kevin Nash), he actually did his own stunt work there, and fkkked his shoulder up when he went smashing into the other wall!)
"I don't understand why the good guys always burn the money. I wouldn't do that. I'd take more than half." I was laughing so hard at this. Devin G, never change!!! Great reaction!
Because money is traceable? That's why there are serial numbers on it. Maybe you don't want you or innocent people leaving trail of blood money behind.

Born and raised in Tampa, it’s awesome to have a comic book movie filmed here. I LOVE this movie. Thomas Jane is my favorite punisher. He’s cold as hell.
24:12 Yes it was taken from a comic book. In the Comic book version Frank Castle was a Vietnam Veteran whose family was killed in a cross fire between 2 warring gangs. After he buried his Wife and Kids, an ex comraded said to Castle ( who was standing nest to the gravestones of his family) "...so what are you going to do Frank?", to which Frank said... " I came home....... but now I realised........ I was fighting the wrong war". And the comic book caption said "Frank Castle is dead......so now begins the life of THE PUNISHER!".
Fantastic movie. The show was way better but that is solely because its Jon Bernthal. Jon Bernthal is up there with the BEST of the most talented actors. I HATE his characters. Mostly because I first saw him as Shane on the Walking Dead and hes so talented that I see him in other stuff and have to mentally check myself to give this other character a chance instead of instantly wondering what stupid shit Shane is gonna do to ruin things for everyone lol.
Punisher was my first fav comic book character bc he didn’t have any super powers, just a badass solider/ cop with hella skills and a arsenal of weapons. If you like this movie, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE watch the Netflix Punisher show
Fun fact when he was getting sewn up from his stab wound she actually so actually sowed through his real skin and through the stab wound prosthetic lol his reaction was real!!!!
If you watch the deleted scenes for the movie, you’ll learn the reason why there was no arrests made for the murders of frank’s family is because the FBI agent that said leave this to professionals had a lot of gambling debt and Howard used that in his favor. The punisher is one of my favorite marvel characters. He is originally from a comic book called the punisher. It was also a punisher television series on Netflix.
Punisher is in my top 3 favorite Marvel comic book characters. So I thank you very much Devin G for a great reaction to the movie. Please keep being you and doing what you do
Awesome movie. 2 Fun Facts: The scene where Punisher gets hit with a toilet seat and goes through the wall, was actually a stunt double. 2nd the scene where he gets thrown through the wall after The Russian smashed the gun, that was supposed to be a stunt double but Thomas Jane wanted to get thrown through the wall himself. Technically Frank didn't kill Bobby it was his partner who killed Bobby. In the deleted scene Franks partner turned out to be corrupt.
He didn't take the money for several reasons: 1) At first because he was planning on committing suicide after is rampage. 2) Because it is dirty money, acquired through blood and suffering and it goes against his moral code. 3) He doesn't need money for his lifestyle as the Punisher. He squats abandoned buildings, crafts makeshift weapons out of garbage and steals his weapons and ammunitions from the gangs he raids. 4) If he ever needs money, he knows where to find it. But I guess he has enough weapons to carry as it is without the need to drag a huge ass suitcase of money as well!
A textbook example of why you should always treat your employees/servants/minions well, no matter how evil you are, because if the hero can turn them, you are done.
This movie is a nice little underrated action movie that's a bit of a gritty retro throwback. The comic took place in NYC so the change to Tampa was for budget reasons but it gives it a different vibe that I like
Kevin Nash played the giant Russian. Fun fact, his training in wrestling actually saved the production some money. They were trying to figure out dolly/crane methods of doing some of the shots, like when after getting stabbed, he picks up Frank and holds him against the wall to stab him back, when Kevin started talking Thomas Jane through how to do it, and then he just grabbed him and picked him up against the wall lmao that's when they realized they could do a lot of the shots practically and without visual tricks, because Kevin already knew how to do some of it, and most importantly, do it safely. Since that is one of the most important things in wrestling. Protecting your partner. And another big help was Thomas Jane was gung-ho about doing it that way as well.
Thomas Jane liked this role so much that he tried to get the studio to make a sequel, but they never did. He kept trying to keep it in their mind and made a short 10 minute video you can watch here on UA-cam called The Punisher: Dirty Laundry, if you liked this, then you'll like that too.
Only criticism of this movie I had when it first came out is I didn't believe castle would do the whole popsicle stunt with mickey. I thought he'd just actually blow torch him.
Great reaction Devin & solid choice! Love Jon Bernthal but Thomas Jane is my favorite actor to play the role as Frank Castle. I have always loved this film!
Thing about Punisher is he was introduced as a Spider-Man villain which is why Thomas Jane`s Frank Castle was introduced in a blink and you miss it cameo when Mary-Jane`s running away from her wedding to John Jameson in Spider-Man 2 and since then he`s alternated between anti-hero,anti-villain and villain killing other villains depending on the writer and artist.
Thomas Jane will always be the voice of the Punisher for me, mostly because he voiced him in the Punisher video game, one of the best games I've played.
Have you watched the two seasons of the Punisher starring Jon Bernthal? Hes the PERFECT version of the Punisher. That show is BRUTAL, but amazing. Especially season two. It has the BEST fight scene Ive ever watched anywhere. And it isnt even Frank Castle whos fighting. Its the anti-hero, half villain known as Pilgrim. It basically plays a great song while he patches himself up in a hotel room after a horrific solo fight against an entire gang. As he doctors each wound it gives a flashback to the fight, showing how the wound happened. The first thing we see is him headbutting a guy in the mouth. The guy rocks back screaming and his two top front teeth are missing. Then in the hotel Pilgrim is pulling both teeth out of the top of his own head where they were stuck. This goes on for four or five major wounds. Gonna rewatch it now lol. Talked myself onto it. Great reaction!
You’re correct, Devin! The Punisher is a comic book character from Marvel Comics. I think this was the first time he was brought to the big screen. He’s an anti-hero and the one comic book character that most military and law enforcement personnel associate with considering his background and the tragedy of his family.
Fun fact, in the fight scene with the giant dude in stripes, Castle stabs him with a knife. That was real. The prop guys accidentally let the real knife get used in the scene instead of the fake one used for stabbings. Dude is so boss he gets stabbed for real and doesn't even drop character. That's the take used in the film.
Really? That big dude is kevin nash. Hes a pro wrestling legend. He was also in the longest yard. Hes the guard that took the estrogen pills instead of steroids and became all feminine haha hes actually a decent actor. He was also in magic mike i believe.
Fun fact. In the fight with the Russian, they forgot to swap out the knife with a prop knife, so Nash got for real stabbed and just shrugged it off. That take made it into the movie
FINNALY!! I’ve been waiting for somebody to have a reaction video to this particular punisher! Before John Bernthal, this was my punisher! People can say what they want but Thomas Jane nailed it in my opinion. The movie ain’t that great but I have the uncut version! Which is a much better telling of this version story. But I’ll be back with a second comment!
Fun fact about the fight w/ the Russian. Thomas Jane (Frank Castle) actually stabbed Kevin b/c the prop guy didn't switch out for the fake one. They used the take where he gets stabbed in the movie. Kevin is a bad ass & a beast
That was Kevin Nash, Devin. The Marvel Series: The Punisher (with Jon Bernthal) is also something worth watching. He first shows up in DareDevil but then gets his own spin-off 2 season series that is just absolutely brutally awesome. You don't need to do a react series to it, but I HIGHLY suggest you watch it. It's currently on Disney+ as they picked up all those Netflix Marvel Series adaptations.
There was a Dolph Lundgren Punisher film in 1989, a 2008 Punisher film starring a different guy, a short film starring this same actor called Punisher Dirty Laundry, and a Netflix Series. The Netflix series is probably the best adaptation, but the Punisher isn't introduced as a character until season 2 of Daredevil (also a great series) so I'd watch that first.
Try to watch 1989 with Dolph Lundgren that version was damn badass ! It was probably the first marvel movie ever ! Dolph really nailed the part of the Punisher and action was top 80s stuff ! I really like this version of Punisher but still prefer 1989 over this one.
This is a great movie. I'm pissed that they didn't bring Thomas Jane back as the Punisher. There is a short film that he produced that shows what the next movie could have been. The Punisher: Dirty Laundry is here: ua-cam.com/video/bWpK0wsnitc/v-deo.html
One of my favorite comic characters next to The Crow, and Batman. I think the criticism is about the difference between the comics, and the movie. He was a Vietnam Vet. His family had a picnic and witnessed a mob hit. Frank went after crime lords after his family was killed. The comics had him personally, and violently kill them. Not so orchestrated. Still, I enjoy both versions. The movie I think came closest was Punisher War Journal.
The Punisher is a Marvel character but I think he belonged to DC or another comic publisher before that. He has a Netflix show that is supposed to be cannon to the Marvel movies with the Avengers but he gets introduced in another show called "Daredevil" which was also on Netflix but now both shows are on Disney plus. He's a great character & I recommend all of his movies & shows 100%.
One of the only movies were one man puts another man through an actually wall. Not a prop one dude. Awesome reaction man. Was one of my favorite movies.
BTW little fact, the knife stabb into the chest with kevin nash and the russian fight scene actually happenned, it was a prop failure and the knife didnt retract, nash kept going with the scene though and no one knew till after, so it made it into the movie, but he totally no sold a REAL stabbing lmao
if you enjoyed this, you are going to have a blast with Jon Bernthal punisher. honestly THE best anti hero to ever exist, and he was made for the role. you can feel the pain yet anger from his acting. great story telling and you being a military guy, you can appreciate how they depict it in the show, realistic (so ive been told by other military folk) and shines the light on issues many want to sweep under the rug.
Many scenes filmed at sites in Tampa Florida. Never would have known a film was under production as there was little interference with day-to-day living in the town. The night-time scenes didn't interfere with usual week-day commerce and traffic downtown.
Hell, there were even more G-rated versions of The Character as a "tough uncle type" in Archie Comics and the MARVEL Super Hero Squad Show on Cartoon Network!
..fun fact - during the fight scene with Kevin Nash, he actually jammed the knife like an inch or 2 deep into Kevin Nash. ..but Nash like a champ finished the scene then removed the knife aand went to get stitched up
You should deffo give "Dead mans shoes" a watch, a dark british revenge film. I'm certain you'd love it failing that you should give "This is england" a watch same director not a revenge film but great acting in it. I dont even care if you don't react to it on UA-cam just give em a watch in your own time. Much love keep doing what you're doing, you're killing it dude.
Director's cut of this movie is awesome, it's a shame it's never been given a proper blu-ray release. 17 minutes of the film were cut back in making it an even more compelling story, still, comic book Frank Castle has not been properly portrayed.
I agreed they've never nailed Frank Castle. Not the way the comic book wrote him. This is a good movie and I will always like it. But John burnfall did so good in the 2 seasons of The Punisher that even knowing it wasn't very accurate didn't matter because the Portrayal Jon Bernthal gives him is PERFECT. And the show itself was so well made, That if people griped enough they could have simply created a new hero With a different name and just change the title of the show to this brand new hero that they just invented. But nobody's griping about that....... Because again.... Jon Burnthal did it perfectly.
Thank you for reacting to this my ex-wife and I watch this for the first time in 2004 we were married and together for 16 years this was the first movie that we watched together Same here my dad died he had hepatitis c nowadays is cruel
Awesome reaction, man! I love Bernthal, but Jane will always be my favorite Punisher. As far as the arrests subplot, the extended version of this film shows that Frank's cop best friend owed a lot of gambling debts and he's the one that sold out Frank's family to the Saints. He's also the reason that the case gets swept under the rug.
When he stabbed Nash in the shoulder, it was a different prop knife that DID NOT go into the handle. He was stabbed for real, and that was the take they used.
There are some fans who swear by this film.. and i love it.. others.. think its complete garbage.. im a thomas jane fan anyway.. and the fight with the russian was what you want to see in theatres!
For not being a comic book fan you did a great job. I enjoyed watching it with you. There are two other punisher movies one from the '90s with Dolph lundgren and then there's another one called punisher war journal which is even more graphic. Awesome job brother.
For anyone who likes a great revenge story. Read The Count of Monte Cristo. It's the best book I've read by far. It's long, there is an abridged version, like 400 pages. That's what I read. Seriously, for a tease read on.........................................It's about two friends, one betrays the other and has him locked up for a long time. This takes place in like 1500's. He's kept in a dank, dark wet cell. But befriends an old man in the cell next door. He happens to know of a huge treasure............Give it 2 chapters and see if you put it down.
This is from marvel comics The Punisher is a great read. There's also the 80s Punisher with Dolph Lundgren and 2 other Punisher films made around 2008 War zone then there's the highly recommended Punisher series on Netflixs which is and would make for a great react series.
Loved this flick as a kid watched it on UA-cam my mum showed me absolutely epic stuff such great fights and really good story and surprisingly accurate too the comics
The Punisher first appeared in 1974, so it preceded Mad Max by 5 years. But the Punisher movie adaptation is a copy of Mad Max, Max a cop seeking revenge for his murdered wife and child, Castle an F.B.I. agent seeking revenge for his entire family, including wife and child. Both had a tricked out black vehicle. I'm 46 and I never was a comicbook reader, so anybody who watches movies would think this was a rip off of Mad Max.

Punisher: War Zone four years later would prove to be the better Punisher film, however despite being PG-13 (War Zone being rated R), it's still great for what it is. I love Thomas Jane.
This movie was rated R.
He looked and saw blood and was like: "Huh...I've been stabbed...so, we doing that take again?"
Nash was and is A Beast!
I fkkking LOVE this guy! Seems like he'd be a TRIP to hang out with in person! ❤️🤣👍💯
(Fun fact: When Thomas Jane got thrown through the wall by "The Russian" (Kevin Nash), he actually did his own stunt work there, and fkkked his shoulder up when he went smashing into the other wall!)
@@similaritiesendhere Most of that money was clean (untraceable)
@@MR.Rexx101 Keep thinking that
@@MR.Rexx101 I've had past roommates get their lives devastated by secret service investigations. If the the secret service didn't get them, the IRS would've fucking raped them.
I have no idea what point you are trying to make.
"It's not about money. It's about sending a message" - Joker
This was a great movie. I wish Thomas Jane would have done more Punisher movies.
"Leave this to professionals."
"Ok, but I'm getting my own."
This one is better than the one with Dolf.
HELL.YES!!!!
This is without a doubt my FAVOURITE movie ever. OF ALL TIME!
This is going to be a great reaction!
I have 2. "The princess bide" this one. Godda balance that stuff out. Lol
@@natecloe8535 Jon Bernthal was also great in Fury, he was truly a disturbing guy there.
Frank castles dad was the same actor that played chief brody in jaws, This was one of his last films
He didn't take the money for several reasons:
1) At first because he was planning on committing suicide after is rampage.
Ooooh, my first punisher movie before the netflix series! How nostalgic! You are (literally) a G for reacting to this and resurrecting my childhood.
- PRISONERS (2013)
- GONE GIRL (2014)
- PRIMAL FEAR (1996)
- CATCH ME IF YOU CAN (2002)
💪🏽🔥
Such a solid action movie! I was about 10 or 11 when this came out and I became obsessed with the Punisher ever since.
Same
A textbook example of why you should always treat your employees/servants/minions well, no matter how evil you are, because if the hero can turn them, you are done.
This is one marvel comic that I like because it actually can happen. He has no super powers, just a sharp killer instinct. A great comic all together.
Thomas Jane will forever be my favorite interpretation of the Punisher, even if underrated
This shit was cold af. I remember me and my buddy watching it at like 12 when it came out on DVD. Amazing movie.
Bernthal's version is fantastic :) Daredevil Se2(3?) was fantastic and the two seasons we got of the Punisher :)
Definitely should watch The Punisher:War Zone (2008) and The Punisher (1989), they are also great action movies.
I really enjoy this dude's energy and enthusiasm in his reactions.
Loved this one since I was a kid 🤘🏽I always loved the scene where he screams “Maria” while running down the pier. 💀
Such a good movie.
I always loved Kevin Nash as the Russian. This movie is very underrated.
One of the reasons why many characters won’t take the money is bc they don’t want/need it or bc it’s ‘dirty’ money. Great reaction!
Many scenes filmed at sites in Tampa Florida. Never would have known a film was under production as there was little interference with day-to-day living in the town. The night-time scenes didn't interfere with usual week-day commerce and traffic downtown.
I think the Daredevil series is right up your alley
Hell, there were even more G-rated versions of The Character as a "tough uncle type" in Archie Comics and the MARVEL Super Hero Squad Show on Cartoon Network!
..fun fact - during the fight scene with Kevin Nash, he actually jammed the knife like an inch or 2 deep into Kevin Nash. ..but Nash like a champ finished the scene then removed the knife aand went to get stitched up
My favorite punisher movie! Good reaction.
One of the best early comic book movies. Sucks we didn't see him reprise the role, but the Punisher show that Netflix did is superb as well!
Man Ben foster can play any role. Such a good actor. Hell or high water is great with him
I don't if anyone else has said it yet, but regarding your question concerning the Russian, he is played by former WWE and WCW star, Kevin Nash.
Director's cut of this movie is awesome, it's a shame it's never been given a proper blu-ray release. 17 minutes of the film were cut back in making it an even more compelling story, still, comic book Frank Castle has not been properly portrayed.
Mainly because he's just a villain...not even an anti-hero.
Fun fact: the Torch Scene was inspired by the 1996 show The Pretender
(Very good show btw)
Hard To Believe It's Been 20 Years Since This Movie Came Out,Time Goes By
Thank you for reacting to this my ex-wife and I watch this for the first time in 2004 we were married and together for 16 years this was the first movie that we watched together
Same here my dad died he had hepatitis c nowadays is cruel
Awesome reaction, man! I love Bernthal, but Jane will always be my favorite Punisher. As far as the arrests subplot, the extended version of this film shows that Frank's cop best friend owed a lot of gambling debts and he's the one that sold out Frank's family to the Saints. He's also the reason that the case gets swept under the rug.
The Punisher is an awesome comic series!
Yes!! Another one if favourite films. Didn't get the greatest review, but I enjoyed it for what it was. Can't wait to watch this!!!
When he stabbed Nash in the shoulder, it was a different prop knife that DID NOT go into the handle.
He was stabbed for real, and that was the take they used.
It was based of a punisher comic book and there's a netflix tv series, great reaction Devin!
I love this movie. It got way too much hate though. I was even surprised it got a sequel. Don’t even really remember the sequel though honestly.
They have The Punisher series on Netflix with Jon Bernthal, it is pretty good.
Dope reaction D. You gotta do Punisher Warzone next. The best one in the series.
A lot of the movie is based of the comics "Welcome back, Frank." by Garth Ennis and one called "Year One"
Personally, my favorite version of the character so far.
In the director's cut, his black cop friend had a gambling problem, which is how the bad guys learned about the big family reunion.
Yep you were right, that was Kevin Nash as the big Russian.🤣
The Best Punisher Movie! Now ya gotta watch Netflix/Disney + series Daredevil and The Punisher...You are missing out on those, bro! Great reaction!
You spotted Kevin Nash as the Russian..... The Singer/Assasian is a Real County Music Star from the 1990's Mark Collie......
I was just thinking the other day why nobody was reacting to this hidden gem. Ty for being first love your reactions.
@Devin G I can't wait to see videos of you watching Bruce Lee
