I'm showing my wife Daredevil (2003) for the firs time. As of filming this, we've watched up to season 2 of the Netflix/Disney Plus Daredevil, so I wanted to take a look back at the original film to react and review it with her.

The Director's Cut is SO MUCH better than the theatrical cut of Daredevil. It shows more of the legal stuff, and they make some other creative differences.
In fact, the "forgot about the innocent person being beaten" thing at 20:17 or the love scene doesn't even happen in the Director's Cut.

Bullseye & Kingpin are the saving graces of this movie. Both actors are clearly having fun with the roles. And Bullseye is surprisingly INCREDIBLY comic accurate, as the villain in the comics is theatrically over-the-top and a famous frenemy of Deadpool (even one of the few people to match his level of crazy). Just some comic info, a lot of the stuff you're associating with Batman to Daredevil, is because a portion of the Batman mythos that became popular was based on Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns in the 80s. But Frank Miller before he did that, was responsible for turning Daredevil into a popular hero in the late 70s and 80s. He's the one who turned Kingpin from a Primary Spider-Man villain into a 60% Daredevil,40% Spider-Man villain. He's the one who created Elektra and had her killed by Bullseye. Made Matt's Catholicism a big part of the character. Had Karen Paige eventually become a drug addict who sells Daredevil's Identity to the Kingpin. Basically Turned Daredevil into this action noir comic. Until then, Daredevil had basically been discount Spider-Man in the comics. Also because of that, Daredevil and Batman were Ben Affleck's (Ben was a comics reader just like his then friend, Director Kevin Smith, who not only had a cameo in the movie, at this time was writing a seminal run in the Daredevil comics called Guardian Devil) top 2 favorite comic heroes, and that's why he jumped at the chance to play both of them.
In the comics, Daredevil has super hearing , but he also has this thing called radar sense, where basically he has a 360 radar image of the world. The movie decided to change it to Sonar, and the TV show never tackled it, probably for budgetary reasons. But funny enough, the 80's TV movie, Trial of the Incredible Hulk, where Rex Smith (Street Hawk) played Daredevil, they gave him his Radar sense, which is kind of his main power from the accident that caused him to lose his sight. That's why when he's drawn, you often see these circles drawn around him, visualizing the radar sense.
Last, the Burning DD symbol was just a take on the something done in the 1994 movie the Crow (which was based on a comic). They decided to copy it in this, just because it looked cool. Though it made no sense.
You should show Jen How Daredevil and Elektra look in the comics.

DareDevil don't usually kill in the comics. But in the movie it plays a role, as Holden said it's his arc. He starts more brutal, but then realizes he is on a dark path and after that scene where he "sees" the boy afraid of him he realizes he is becoming a bad guy. So after that he stops killing, as shown in the end where he spares Kingpin... After having just killed Bullseye...

The thing about the comic accuracy is that the movie carries the tone that most of the comics, because Daredevil is very ridiculous most of the time, like Spider-Man comics, but with a bit more edge... except a big problem was the killing (Matt's a lawyer and a Catholic, so that's a hard no go, Ben Affleck always gets stuck with versions of famous heroes who don't kill, who start out doing so lol). Elektra is so off in this movie, and the show nails it for the most part.
Bullseye is kinda spot on the comics, but he usually wears a costume that hasn't changed in like 40 years.

So going full off topic here, but you were talking about your favorite Batman movies and I was wondering if you ever saw "Batman: Under the Red Hood" and if not: maybe that could be a great reaction video!
I'm not a big Batman fan, but I really really liked this animated movie, it picks up on some of my gripes I have with Batman and turns them into plot points, it has insanely strong acting and some of the hardest hitting emotional scenes in a batman movie ever, even while Mark Hamill didn't play the Joker anymore.
Jensen Ackles, Bruce Greenwood, John DiMaggio, Bruce Timm, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Isaacs.. such a fantastic cast.
    I really recommend this movie

The 'Director's Cut' of this movie it's actually pretty good. It still has some early 2000s superhero movie cheesieness, but the overall story and character arcs are much stronger than what we got in the theatrical version.

I kinda liked that they modernized aspects of this film from the comics, like not focusing on his religious background as the real modern world slowly realizes that none of the gods are real. Meant I could get more invested in DD's world. That's just me though. I'm sure others will have reasons, equally valid for them.

I know the running joke here with the pronunciation of names. But your pronunciation of Gruffudd for Ioan Gruffudd is adorable.
FYI only if you're interested - Gruffudd is a Welsh thing, the "dd" make a soft "th" sound. I'm not gonna mention the "ch" sound in Welsh. I haven't found an easier explanation than "furball noise". (I'm Welsh... and I don't even know)

Halle Berry won the Razzle with is the opposite of an Oscar. She actually showed up to accept it. Also the bully in the beginning of this movie was Tony Soprano's son. In the comics Bullseye wears a black suit with kind of a cowl and on the forehead it has a white bullseye.

The 2 most egregious uses of a symbol reveal are In the Mask of Zorro, and the first Punisher movie, Frank would have to have had is a physics doctorate to pull it off the way it happens. You may not know, but apparently the suit in this movie was all black, and they used color add later on to make it partially red.

Funnily enough Ben & Kevin Smith were very close friends at this point & appeared on an episode of Dinner for Five together with Jennifer, Colin & Favreau. In it you could see both the early flirtations between Ben & Jen who were both in relationships as well as Jens dislike for Kevin & his & Bens friendship. After marrying Kevin and Ben drifted apart and wouldn’t become close again until after Bens divorce & Kevin’s heart attack. Just funny to see how relationships change when you add a new element into the mix.

While obviously this isn't the "best" interpretation of Dare Devil by any stretch of the imagination, I actually quite liked the suit, and the visuals of how Matt "sees". Thought those were pretty interesting things. Also King Pin being played by Michael Clarke Duncan is amazing and I think he fits that character well. The soundtrack was also quite good and some of the action sequences even hold up today.
That being said, a lot of the acting is pretty hokey and some of the plot is not all the there... still. Could be a lot worse and isn't the worst comic book film I've ever seen.

I always have fun with this movie just seeing Collin Ferrals facical expressions in his scenes crack me up. I do really like how they show how Matt see;s things in the tv show they only show us once and mainly do the rest with sound effects and some blurred out motion which is great I like both methods but in terms of story telling and character growth the show shines and definately the action is shot well for a netflix budget can't wait for his new show!
